The next morning Kurt sleepily enters the kitchen to make himself breakfast. He opens the fridge and decides to make some pancakes. While they fry in the pan he takes some oranges to make himself fresh orange juice and his mind wanders to last night.
After Blaine had left Kurt managed to steal a plate from the remaining dinner and escaped with the help of Finn into his room before his dad could pelt him with embarrassing questions about his evening with Blaine. In his room he opened his laptop and logged into skype. He needed to talk to his best friend right now and fortunately Mercedes was online. They are friends since elementary school and she was the second one (right after his dad) he confessed that he is gay. She embraced him tightly and told him that she was totally okay with it and since then they've given eachother love tips.
As Mercedes face appeared on the screen it hit Kurt how much he has missed his old friends. First they made small talk and updated eachother about their lifes. Kurt told her about his new school and neighbourhood and Mercedes about some new drama in their old glee club. But soon Kurt couldn't hold back and blurted out with flushed cheecks: "I met someone."
Mercedes looked surprised but then her face lighted up and she smiled her big toothy smile into the webcam. "Really? Oh Kurt I'm so happy for you, tell me about him. Where did you meet? Are you dating? Show me a picture! Tell me everything!"
Kurt laughed about her excitement and was happy to finally have someone to speak with and tell all his feelings and thoughts. Admittedly Rachel and him became friends and he likes her very much though she has her diva moments sometimes but it just isn't the same as to talk to your year-long best friend. Kurt told Mercedes everything. From his accidentally first meeting with Blaine, how they baked cookies and kissed for the first time and from their tandem tour tonight.
"And he is very handsome but sadly I have no picture of him", he finished and waited eagerly for his friends reaction.
"So what do you think?"
Mercedes looked away from the camera and her eyes filled with tears.
"Oh my god Mercedes, what's wrong?"
She turned to him and wiped her tears with her sleeve away.
"It's just I miss you so much Kurt and I'm so incredibly happy for you that you found this appearently nice boy and I'd love to be there with you so we could celebrate together or I could test myself if he's good enough for you." She laughed softly,"I'm silly I know."
Kurt was so touched how his best friend reacted and fought his own tears back.
"Oh honey, I miss you too. But we'll see eachother next holidays right?"
They smiled at eachother for a moment and Mercedes recovered herself and the sadness in her eyes went away and vanished an exciting sparkling. "So are you two like boyfriends know?"
Kurt sighed dramatically and let himself fell on his back.
"I don't know! I mean we just know eachother for 8 days. But it never felt so right with somebody. He makes me so happy and I feel like I can be myself around him. I searched for such a person for so long who knocks me directly off my feet and out of the blue there he is. Also you know I'm not such a forward person when its about intimacy but when I'm with him I forget to think and I just do what feels right. And I trust him that he would never push me into doing something I'm not comfortable with. But what if he doesn't feel the same and I'm head over heels for someone unreachable again." Kurt rolled on his stomach and rested his head on his hands. Mercedes watched him with an amused smile. "You're totally and madly in love Hummel. And after what you've told me he's as lovestruck as you. Why don't you just ask him if you're boyfriends?"
Kurt sighed again:" I guess you're right I need to ask him. But I'm afraid that he says no and everything was just a wondeful fantasy I made up in my head. I mean how can such a boy like him like me?"
"Kurt! Stop freaking out you're a beatiful person and the question is who can't be in love with you?! God I can already picture you two living in a small beach house and playing with your grandchildren."
Kurt smiled at his friend. "Thank you Mercedes you're a true friend and I hope you're right. But a beach house really? I thought more of a cozy apartement in New York and we're playing our 100th Broadway show together not with our grandchildren. I heard him sing in our school's glee club last week and he has such a beautiful voice I was just standing there with goosebumps pressed against the lockers and listened to him through the door like a creep. Oh gosh he's perfect."
Mercedes laughed at his sillyness and they talked for a bit longer till they needed to say goodbye.
Kurt fastly fell asleep this night with Blaine's sweet voice singing in his head and wonderful dreams full of hopes of what will come.
"Morning dude."
Kurt nearly cuts his fingers while he is halving the oranges as his stepbrother scuffles in the kitchen and pulls him out of his daydream.
"Aah Finn, you scared me!"
"Sorry", he mumbles and sits down at the kitchen table."So what's for breakfast?"
"I really think you would starve when you'd live alone but because you're my brother and you helped me yeasterday to escape from Dad, I made us some pancakes with bacon." Kurt puts the finished pancakes on a plate on the kitchen table.
"Yummy! Thanks Kurt. And the help was more selfprotection because I was afraid Burt would engage us in an akward conversation about all the embarassing things you don't want to discuss with your parents. But now between brothers what's going on between you and this Blaine guy? You seem to hang out very often and I don't know but the heart eyes you give him in school don't look like you'd be just friends."
Kurts ears turn lobster red and he presses out the orange juice very concentrated.
"I think this topic falls under the ones you don't want to discuss with your stepbrother.", he answers but adds, "But I think it's sweet that you worry about me. Lets just say I really like Blaine."
"It's okay if you don't want to talk about it but if you need help tell me. But if he hurts you he'll get into trouble with me ", Finn mutters between his pancakes.
Kurt thinks it's very sweet that his stepbrother worries about him. He finishes his juice and sits next to Finn at the table. Kurt eats quietly a pancake and looks through the big slide door made of glass that seperates the living room and the kitchen from their backyard. Many flowerpots and big bags stand in their unfinished garden. Carole wants to ladscape it herself and she got up early this morning to drive to a gardener to talk through the details with him. Later she wants to visit Burt in his tire shop. It opens tomorrow and they want to give it the finishing touch. So Finn and him would have the house for themselves most of the day.
"Some gardeners brought the flowers and the bags of sand yeasterday when you were out with Blaine. Mom said that she wants to spread out the sand on the grass 'cause she read that it would grow better with a layer of sand beneath", Finn says as he follows Kurts sight.
"Oh, I was already wondering if Carole specialized in desert plants." An idea what he is going to do with his day comes to Kurt's mind and he asks: "what are your plans for today Finn?"
"Um actually I have date with Rachel today", he answers and scratchs his neck.
Kurt is surprised. He new they met once as Rachel picked him up for school and Finn opened the door. Rachel questioned him the whole way to school about him. But he didn't knew anything about a date, maybe because they havn't talked about anything else than Blaine lately. Kurt plans to ask her how this happened.
"Well that's surprising but I hope it works out well. Try to be nice as much as I can tell she really likes you. But could you help me with sonething before you leave? I want to scatter the sand in the garden."
"Um I don't know what Mom exactly has planned to do with it, I think we should wait till she comes back."
"There aren't that many other options to put sand than on the ground, I'm sure we'll do her a favour." But Kurt has of course some ulterior thoughts in his mind.
Finally Finn agrees and after they finished their breakfast and got dressed they stand in the garden. Finn lifts all the bags and emptys them at the spot Kurt directs him. After 30 minutes Finn is dripping with sweat but Kurt is very content with the result. The back part of the garden next to the jetty of their little garden pont is covered in a thick layer of sand and its perfect for his plan. Kurt thanks his brother who decides in Kurts advice to shower again before his date. In the meantime Kurt works in the kitchen like a maniac, preparing three different kinds of sandwiches, some fruits and to top it all a three-tier cake. As Finn leaves the house Kurt goes into the tool shed to get a sunshade wich he sticks into the sand and steadys it with two big stones. Then he goes uptstairs and rummages around in one of the unpacked moving boxes to grab a big beach towel and changes into something lighter because the sun is really burning today. Afterwards he goes back into the kitchen and puts cautiously the cake into a picnic basket and covers it with a red and white checkered dishtowel. Then he grabs a tube of sunscreen (the highest because seriously he isn't the tanest person on earth) and lays everything under the sunshade. His plan worked out and as everything is arranged he has created a picnic on his own mini beach. Now he only needs a lifeguard and he knows someone who'd be perfect for the job.
As he stands in front of Blaine's door his heart thumbs so excitedly in his chest he thinks he might have a heartattack and whoever will open the door will just find his dead body. He takes a deep breath and presses the doorbell. He damns the fact that Blaine and he still havn't exchanged numbers so he's at the risk of running into his parents or worse into Cooper. Luckily it's Blaine who opens the door.
"Oh, hey Kurt. Nice to see you", Blaine smiles widely.
"Hi Blaine."
They look fondly in each others eyes for a moment till Kurt breaks the eyecontact and turns his gaze away to his hands that nervously play with the seam of his tee, a happy smile playing on his lips.
"Well I have the house on my own for most of the day and I was wondering if you want to come over? Gosh that sounded kind of like I'd want to seduce you. What I was trying to say is I prepared a picnic and maybe we could redo the one from yesterday but without the getting chased part."
Blaine laughs, "sure I'd love to. And also I promised you a dessert", he winks.
Kurt blushs and the memories from the part of their picnic that did admittedly involve tongue but not so much eating rush back.
"Hey Blaine, who is at the door?", someone calls from inside and Kurt can see Cooper making his way to the door.
"Oh it's our lovely neighbour Kurt! Hello Kurt nice to see, Blaine is talking about you all day long."
Blaine nudges his brother in the side.
"We were just about to go, Coop." And Blaine shuts the door before his brother could emberass him any more.
"So", Blaine takes Kurt's hand,"let's go to your house."
Kurt smiles happily and glances at their entangled hands. Such a little gesture but it feels so good to do this in public. Even if they're just walking from Blaine's house to his and nobody is there except for a little boy who set up a lemonade booth across the street. In the past he wouldn't have dared to do it, too afraid that somebody would call them hurtful things, but he learned the hard way to be proud of who he is and not to let other people's ignorance hurt him. He squeezes Blaine's hand and the loving look he gets in return confirms him that all the struggle was worth it.
The little neighbourhood boy seems to notice them now and calls for Blaine: "Hi Blaine do you want to try my homemade lemonade."
Blaine gives Kurt a questioning look. "His name is Jake, he's such a cutie we should stop by and buy some lemonade if you want to."
Kurt shrugs his shoulders, "sure why not."
They cross the street and Blaine greets the maybe 8 years old boy.
"Hi Jake, sure we would like to buy some of your delicious looking lemonade."
Jake's eyes light up and he enthusiastically searchs for two glasses.
"I made it with my mommy and she is the best lemonade maker in town, you will love it", he tells them and pours the lemonade into the glasses. Then he reachs in a bag with straws that have different animal patterns but he can't decide wich one he should choose. So he stops and looks at Kurt. He seems to think very hard for a second and he glances to their interlaced hands then he turns back to Blaine: "Do you like your new friend very much, Blaine?"
Kurt's heart stops for a beat. This little boy just asked in a way if they are boyfriends a question that he wracks his head about ever since their first kiss but was to chicken-hearted to ask. He turns nervously to Blaine who seems a bit taken by surprise.
"Um, I don't know how to put it into the right words Jake, but yes I like him very much. Maybe as much as you love your dog Sparkler. You can do all the fun things together but he is also there for you when you're down and he is the best listener and comforter. But I also like him the way your Mom likes your Daddy. Since the moment we've first met he has turned my life upside down. I think about him all the time which sometimes gets a problem 'cause thereby I forget all my homework because nothing else is on my mind than he alone." Jakes giggles.
"I'm always happy when we're together, he makes me laugh and everything with him is so new and easy and carefree. But it's also so exciting and he surprises me again and again. And very often he just leaves me breathless.
So yes Jake, I really really like Kurt. And..." Blaine gulps and hesitates before he goes on. "We haven't talked about this yet and I don't want you to feel uneasy but do you want to be my boyfriend, Kurt?"
At every word he looks directly in Kurt's eyes and his voice softens and breaks a little at the last sentence afraid of Kurt's reaction.
Kurt's mind is spinnig and he's unable to speak.
Blaine feels the same way, he really feels the same, I can't believe it! This must be a wonderful dream!
Blaine has stared to the ground after he became silent and his cheeks are shining red because of his unexpectedly confession and like he's surprised that he mustn't think about an answer and the words just easily slipped out of his mouth. He looks hopefully up into Kurt's eyes. But Kurt doesn't say anything. He's just standing there motionless. Blaine nervously shifts around on his feet.
"Kurt? I'm sorry if I jumped you. I haven't planned this it just slipped out of my mouth. You don't have to answer it right now if..."
Kurt awakes from his trance and flings his arms around Blaine's neck what nearly knocks him over.
"Of course I do! Of course I want to be your boyfriend! I was so afraid that you wouldn't want to be mine. I'm so happy right now you have no idea!" Kurt kisses Blaine's whole face and both giggle entierly happy. Blaine wraps his arms tightly around Kurt's waist and hugs him tightly both totally forgetting the outside world.
As they seperate both are blushing and laugh at eachother about their confessions of their feelings in the middle of the street in front of a little boy and his lemonade booth. Jake has covered his eyes with his hands and cautiously peeks out between his fingers. He looks at them with a wide grin. "I see you've finished and so is your lemonade. I also could decide now wich straws I have to use."
He hands both their glasses. In Kurt's glass sticks a straw with a cat pattern and Blaine's has a dog pattern.
"I 've chosen the dog pattern for you Blaine because I think you're a great playmate and the way you look at Kurt is similar to a puppy which got ruffled at it's belly."
Blaine laughs,"well, thank you buddy."
Jake continues: "And for you Kurt I've chosen the cat pattern because you're as graceful and pretty as one but you seem like you can also use your claws to protect someone or something that's important for you. I also think both animals fit perfectly together though some might disagree. But sometimes something unusual happens and two that seem not to fit together at fist sight are actually meant to be."
Blaine and Kurt exchange smiles and Blaine lays his arm around Kurt's hip to draw him closer.
"Just like Sparkler and the neighbour's cat. They hated eachother because cats and dogs are supposed to be enemies but as they get to know eachother they became best friends and now they've even teamed up and terrorize all the neighbourhoods cats and dogs together."
Kurt drops his head on Blaine's shoulder and sighs happily as Blaine presses a kiss on his hair. This kid really moves him. As childlike as he might has described his thoughts, for this little boy the gender or any prejudices don't matter he just sees the feelings that people share and classifys every love equal. Something that not even all adults understand.
Kurt lifts his head and takes a sip of his lemonade. "Mmh yummy, you were right you and your mom make fantastic lemonade."
Blaine puts 5$ in Jacks piggybank. "Thanks for the refresher buddy and good luck with your both." He ruffles Jake's hair who instantly fixes it again and they wave goodbye. Kurt and Blaine walk to Kurt's house and Kurt guides Blaine through the living room.
"Okay now you have to close your eyes. It's a little surprise." Kurt steps behind Blaine and covers his eyes with his hands. Blaine blindly reaches out forward and Kurt guides him through the garden. They stop in front of the sand.
"I'll let go now but keep your eyes still closed."
Blaine nods and pinches his eyes together. Kurt bends down and unties Blaine's shoelaces. He realizes Blaine doesn't wear socks and chuckles.
"Okay lift your feet one after the other."
"You aren't secretly taking pictures of me in silly positions, right?", Blaine says but lifts his feet.
"No silly, just trust me." Kurt removes Blaine's shoes and takes off his own. Then he takes both of Blaine's hands in his and steps backwards to guide him on the sand.
"What do you feel?", he asks.
"The warmth of your wonderful soft hands, the butterflies in my belly that go crazy, happiness because I trust you blindly..."
Kurt blushs and cuts him of with a light smack on his hands. "Stop fooling around you flatterer, I mean what do you feel beneath your feet?"
Blaine moves his feet,"I don't know it's no grass it feels like...sand?!", he opens his eyes and looks around. He spots the sunshade that sticks in the thick layer of sand with a huge beachtowel beneath it and a picnic basket. "Wow Kurt it's a mini beach in your garden. That's so cool! You're crazy!" He runs around in the sand and flops down on the beachtowel.
Kurt laughs and sits down next to him. "I'm happy you like it."
"I love it. It's sad that we don't have a real beach near our home." Blaine lets himself fall on his back. They lie in a comfortable silence next to eachother and just enjoy the beautiful sunny day and their togetherness. Blaine has closed his eyes and Kurt watches the sunlight dancing over his olive skin. Blaine takes a deep breath and smiles, he seems to soak up the sun like a sponge. He grabs some sand lets it run through his fingers. "I have an idea! Do you have a bucket in the tool sheed maybe?"
"Um sure, but why?", Kurt answers.
"We're going to build sand castels! I love it since I was a kid." Blaine jumps up and runs to the tool sheed to get the bucket.
Kurt loves his energy and his childlike enthusiasm and just watches him rummaging around in the tool sheed.
"I even found two shovels!" Blaine says as he returns to his place on the towel next to Kurt and dips the bucket in the garden pond on his way to get some water that will make the sand wetter so their sand castels wouldn't cave in.
Blaine builds very seriously and creates in high concentration a big castle. Kurt giggles and pats the sand every now and then to stady the walls while he enjoys watching Blaine. After a while Blaine is happy with the outcome they've created a big castle with four towers, a water ditch and even a little bridge. Blaine stands up and returns with a little stick on that he sticks a leave. "My prince your beautiful castle is completed. You can now raise the flag of your kingdom." He hands Kurt the little stick ceremoniously.
"Thank you court jester, but I think I have a better heraldic figure then a leave that represents more my kingdom." Kurt grabs the straws from the empty lemonade glasses and sticks them into the highest tower.
"Okay I admit yours are prettier but why am I a court jester and not your prince," Blaine pouts.
"It's the classical love story: two persons from different social classes fall in love and their love seems hopeless but then the prince and the court jester flee together and hide in a secret place. The prince's parents are desperately unhappy and finally accept their love. Both get crowned and live happily ever after." Kurt explains and gives Blaine a peck on his pouting lips.
"Okay I think I can live with that. But now the court jester is slightly hungry what delicious things do you hide in that picnic basket?" Blaine asks and tries to peek under the dishtowel that lies on top of the basket but Kurt stops him.
"No, you have to guess. Close your eyes and let me feed you."
Blaine closes his eyes and opens his mouth for Kurt. Kurt opens the picnic basket and takes a mango out.
"Okay here comes the first one," he puts a slice into Blaine's mouth. Blaine's lips close around his fingers and he sucks a little at them. Kurt slides them out and Blaine chews with a chuckle.
"That's easy, it's a mango."
"Right! Now a more difficult one."
Kurt opens the picnic basket again and removes the fancy torte he baked this morning. He cuts a small piece and puts it in Blaine's waiting mouth. This time Blaine swirls his tongue around Kurt's fingers and licks the cream from them. Kurt removes them with a "plop".
"Hey you are supposed to taste the food not my fingers."
"Yeah but they're a sweet side effect," Blaine smirks gleefully, "and this is a super delicious cake. You can't beat a gourmet with easy stuff like this."
Kurt puts the cake aside and approaches to Blaine who has still closed his eyes. "Okay I think this is a bit more challenging. What does this tastes like?" Kurt leans in and passionatly kisses Blaine. Blaine squeaks in surprise and falls on his back. He wraps his arms around Kurt's waist and pulls him closer.
"No, this is the easiest one. Though the cake was mouth-watering this is absolutely my favourite taste all over the world and I will always recognize it though it tastes different everytime I got to the honor to taste it." Blaine says as they seperate as little as possible with their foreheads touching to catch their breath from the kiss. Kurt laughs and rests his head on Blaine's chest. He looks him lovingly in the eyes and wonders how he deserves such a wonderful boyfriend. Yes, they are boyfriends and he still can't believe it. He wants to scream it out to the whole world.
"Hey guys watcha doin' ?"
Kurt and Blaine nearly jump apart as they hear Cooper shouting.
"Oh my god I can't believe he disturbs us again. Seriously is he stalking us?!", Blaine whispers angrily.
Cooper jumps over the garden fence where he had been standing and watched them to Kurt's side of the garden.
Kurt and Blaine sit up from their cuddling position, Kurt slightly blushed because of the situation Cooper caught them and Blaine angry because his brother disturbed them again.
Cooper walks joyfully over to them and squeezes himself between the two of them.
"So looks like you two are having a fun day," Cooper says and winks. He admires the little beach and smirks at their sandcastel. Then his sight wanders to the still opened picnic basket. "Oh yummy and there is cake!" He takes a big piece and shovels it cheerfully in his mouth. "Yum yum it's so much better than yours Blaine." Cooper says as he finishes it fastly and takes another piece.
Blaine and Kurt look questioningly at each other and suddenly it hits Blaine. "You stole the cake yesterday! I can't believe you did that!"
"Yeah, but it was awful. Seriously Blaine, I think I did you a favour with stealing it."
Kurt laughs silently. He already assumed that Blaine's baking skills didn't improve that much. But Blaine seems a little bit offended and Kurt reaches around Cooper to stroke soothingly up and down his back. Cooper looks like he doesn't think about leaving anytime soon and Blaine just rolls annoyed his eyes.
"Gosh Coop don't you realize that you're in the way."
Cooper looks innocently back and forth between them and Blaine just pushes him away from their middle to sit next to Kurt again. Cooper looks hurt. "Blainey, my baby brother, can't I be a part of your romatic date?"
"The problem is I don't know why but with you around it ISN'T ROMANTIC ANYMORE!", Blaine is really angry now.
"How about you get the whole cake but eat it at home." Kurt offers arbitrating.
"The whole cake?" Cooper asks with huge eyes.
"Yes, but only if you promise to leave us alone", Kurt answers and hands him the cake.
"Okay", Cooper agrees and hurries to the garden fence. He jumps over it like a hurdler without dropping the cake and dissapers in the house.
Blaine huffs and lets him self fall on his back with a loud moan.
"I'm so sorry about that, Kurt."
"Don't worry, the important thing is that we've got rid of him and I think it's so much harder for you 'cause you have to deal with him everyday. Also we're now on our own again and I really like where things were heading earlier..."
Kurt trails his fingertips lightly up Blaine's arm up to his shoulders. He watches fascinated how Blaine's hairs stand up and he shivers while Kurt's fingers ghost over his skin. He stops at his collarbone and presses a kiss to the spot. Blaine turns around and as he looks at Kurt his gaze has changed to earlier. His eyes are still warm and affectionate but something is added. His pupilles are wider and the hazel changed into a dark chocolate. He sits up directly across from Kurt, both are kneeling and their knees are touching. Blaine takes Kurt's hand to kiss his pulse and knuckles. Then he slowly leans in to brush his lips featherlightly over Kurt's, barely using preassure. Kurt chases Blaine's lips with his. Blaine chuckles and teasingly pulls back. He looks at Kurt with such intensity that Kurt is glad he sits because his knees would have gave in otherwise. This time their lips look with full fierceness. Blaine sucks hardly at Kurt's bottom lip and he grabs his face with both hands to draw him closer. Kurt shivers and leans back to steady himself with his hands on the towel. Blaine leans over him to kiss him more eagerly. Their upper bodies are fully touching and Blaine spreads his legs to place them around Kurt's so they can be even more closer. Blaine gently licks at Kurt's bottom lip and Kurt carefully opens his mouth to grant Blaine entrace. Kurt isn't very experienced in french kissing so he lets Blaine take the lead. Blaine's hot tongue curiously enters Kurt's mouth and finds his tongue. Kurt draws in a sharp breath as their tips are touching and he can't hold himself up on his arms anymore. He slumps down backwards and Blaine on top of him who makes a surprised sound. Their legs are kind of akward entangled now and they gigglingly try to untangle them. Their bodies are completely pressed together now and every inch of skin that is touching Blaine is hyper sensitive. Kurt feels like all his senses are sharpened. Both are heavily panting and they slow down their pace. They share some sweet simple kisses and Kurt burrows his hands in Blaine's hair. Some curls loosened from his gel and Kurt rubs the back of his neck. Kurt can feel Blaine's strong muscles as he trails his hands down his shoulders and...
Burt gets out his keys and opens the frontdoor.
