Blaine woke up curled in a ball, his arms wrapped round something soft. Kurt. He snuggled into him and inhaled his scent, kissing his neck. Wait. That did not smell like Kurt. And whatever he just kissed sure as hell wasn't Kurt's neck. He opened his eyes and looked around him. He was hugging what appeared to be a pillow, but it smelled weird, it smelt like....
He looked around again. Right. That was it. It smelt like jungle. Great. He sat up and rubbed his eyes.
"Hey, look who's up" Fearne giggled, nudging Matt.
"Hey grabby!" Matt chuckled.
"What? Did I miss something?" Blaine asked, baffled.
"You were the first one asleep last night. You were grabbing at the air, it was kind of strange" Russell told him.
"Kurt. I must have been reaching for Kurt. I'm so sorry guys, after years of sleeping in the same bed as him, I sort of just started to pull him into my arms in my sleep. Sorry about that, I'm just not used to him not being there" Blaine blushed.
"Don't worry about it man, it must suck not being with him" Matt smiled sympethetically.
"It totally sucks" Blaine agreed. "What time is it?"
"7:30" Lacey told him. "Plenty of time before the trial"
Blaine breathed deeply, suddenly feeling nervous.
"Hey, don't worry about it, you'll be great! I'm sure we'll get a proper meal tonight, we all believe in you Blaine"
Blaine still looked nervous, so Lacey left the fire that she and Russell were cooking breakfast on and hugged him.
"Ooh, you smell like raspberry's!" she commented.
Blaine laughed and ducked his head. "It's the hair gel"
"I swear you can only get raspberry scented hair gel for kids..."
Blaine blushed bright red again. "You can. Kurt just likes the smell of it, I've been using this brand for years. That was actually my one luxury item. Hair gel"
"Oh that is precious!" Fearne laughed.
Blaine groaned and hid his face in his hands. "I can't believe I've said all of this on national TV"
"Can't really avoid it on this show. Your true personality and little secrets always come out here, it can't be helped. Plus, it's sweet" Lacey hugged Blaine again before standing up and going back to the fire.
"Right, breakfast is served!" Russell called, dishing it out into small metal tins.
"What is it?" Blaine asked, his stomach rumbling.
"Rice and beans, of course. That's all we get unless we win challenged and trials" Matt chipped in, eating his breakfast. Blaine made a face, but took his tin anyway.
"What do you all usually have for breakfast?" Fearne asked.
"Nothing special, just toast or cereal and that" Russell replied, and the others all nodded, apart from Blaine.
"Pancakes. Or waffles. And coffee, I couldn't survive without my morning coffee"
"Well, you're going to have to survive without it!" Lacey nudged him, causing Blaine to sigh.
"I know. That is just going to kill me" he laughed.
Their conversation continued, and they tidied up the camp.
"Is there a shower here?" Blaine asked, looking around.
"I think so, I think it's up there, it's basically just cold water coming out of a rock though, and it's not exactly private, so you have to shower in a swim suit because they film you showering" Matt pointed in the direction of the shower, and Blaine's mouth dropped open.
"Seriously? You can't even shower in private?"
They all shook their heads, and Blaine sighed, grabbed a towel and headed for the shower, washing the gel out of his hair. He came back and grabbed one of the many tubes of hair gel out of his bag, and searched for the camp mirror.
"Has anyone seen the mirror? I need it to gel my hair" he asked, searching through the camp.
"I have it! Here you go" Fearne passed it over, and Blaine set to work on his hair. Everyone watched in amazement as Blaine's curls disappeared into the helmet of gel in a matter of minutes.
"How can you stand to have so much gel in your hair!" Matt asked as Blaine slicked his hair back.
"I don't even notice it anymore, although my hair goes hard when the gel dries. But hey, if anything drops on my head it'll just slide off!"
Russell, Matt, Lacey, Fearne and Blaine all laughed.
"I'm going to go wash my clothes from yesterday" Blaine announced, picking up his clothes and turning towards the lake next to the showers.
"Wait up! I'll go with you" Fearne grabbed her clothes as well and they walked to the lake together.
They sat down on the edge of the lake and began to wash their clothes.
"I thought that story yesterday about you and Kurt was really sweet. It's nice when you have a proper story to tell about how you met" she smiled at him.
"Thanks. I'm going to miss him like crazy. I already do. It was so strange not falling asleep next to him and not waking up with him in my arms. That hasn't happened since I was a senior in High School in Lima and he was a College Freshman in New York. I can easily say that that was the most difficult year of my life. Sure, we would talk and Skype every day, but it was different from actually being there with him. I saw him Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring and Summer, as well as some weekends when I would travel to New York just to see him. When I was a Junior and he was a Senior, even though we had school, I would stay over at his a lot and he would stay over at mine, and we would drive to and from school together, and the year before that we both boarded at Dalton, and we fixed it so that we shared a dorm room, even when we were just friends. I'm just so not used to being away from him this much"
"I think it's sweet that you care so much about him"
"He's my everything. He's the love of my life. I remember, back when I was a Junior and he was a Senior, at Christmas, I gave him a promise ring. But I didn't buy it, I made it. I made it out of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum wrapper, Kurt's favourite gum, and I made it in the shape of a bow tie, because they were my signature piece. I remember exactly what I said when he asked me what I was promising, I said "To always love you, to defend you even if I know you're wrong, to pick up your phone call, no matter what I'm doing, to back you cookies at least twice a year, to kiss you wherever and whenever you want, but mostly just to make sure that you remember how perfectly imperfect you are""
"You are too sweet for your own good! Come here" Fearne pulled him into a hug, and Blaine laughed. "Come, on, it's 10, you've got to get going to the trial"
They stood up and took their clothes back to camp.
"Right, I'm off guys, wish me luck!" Blaine called.
"Wait, I'll walk you to the bridge" Lacey said, running up to him.
"Good luck Blaine, we all believe in you!" the celebrities called as Lacey and Blaine left.
"Are you nervous?" Lacey asked.
"Pretty nervous. I know that Kurt's watching at home, and I don't want to let him down, and I don't want to let you and the others down too. I'm kind of worried that it's going to be some giant that I'm up against, or someone who's scared of nothing. I'm not scared of anything that the jungle could hold, but I might notlike the trial, I might find myself scared when I'm actually in there"
"Don't worry about it, you'll be amazing, I know you will. You're from Snake Rock, the tough team, we've been in the jungle longer than them, even if it's only a day longer, but they'll still be used to the luxuries of their ordinary lives and the hotel, whereas we already know what it's going to be like"
"Thanks Lacey, you're really great"
Before they knew it, they'd reached the bridge that lead to the Bushtucker Trial area.
"Good luck! Just remember, whatever's in there with you, they may bite, they will crawl all over you, but they won't be of any danger to you, if they were, they wouldn't be there. Try not to think about what's in there with you, just try and focus on winning, okay?"
"Got it" Blaine replied, smiling. They hugged, and Blaine set off along the bridge. When he was across, he was pulled aside to talk to the camera.
"Yeh, I'm pretty nervous about the trial, but I'm also fairly confident that I can win. Like Lacey said, I'm just going to focus on winning, not about what's in there with me. The other team at Croc Creek got to spend the night in a luxury hotel and had all the nice food, and we had rice and beans in the jungle, I think we deserve to win the meal tonight, so I'm going to try my hardest"
After that, he was told he could move on to the Bushtucker Trial area. When he got there, he was greeted by the sight of Dec and a slightly taller man, who he guessed was Ant.
"Hey there Blaine, welcome to the Bushtucker Trial area. Are you ready to see who you're up against today?" Ant asked.
"Yeh, let's see who it is" Blaine replied with an enthusiastic smile. He watched as an athletic looking woman appeared.
"Hey there, I'm Kelly, Kelly Holmes" Kelly said, extending her arm.
"Blaine Anderson" Blaine smiled.
"Okay, so as you two know, this is a head to head Bushtucker Trial, so only one can win or neither of you can win. You'll both be lying down in those crates underground, and you'll have to try and get out using this Anchor Key. As this is a Bushtucker Trial, you will not be alone in there, you'll be joined by thousands of critters. The first person to get out of the crates and raise their camp flag will win the meal for their camp tonight. You can stop the trial at any time by saying "I'm a celebrity get me out of here", or you could just go back to camp now, but you will go home empty handed if you choose either of those options. If one of you leaves, the other does not automatically win, you still have to complete the trial in order to win the meals for camp. Any questions?" Dec asked, looking between the two.
"Yeh, just one" Blaine said. "What are critters?"
Ant and Dec laughed, and patted him on the back. "Critter are creatures, you'll be joined by thousands of them" Ant said. "Do you both want to do it?"
"I'm up for anything" Blaine grinned.
"I'll give it my all" Kelly nodded.
"Alright, Rangers, can we get them in the crates" Dec called to the Rangers that came out and helped Blaine and Kelly into their crates. They laid down and waited as the lids were the crates were place on top and were drilled shut.
"You can start at the sound of the claxon" Ant said. Everything was silent for a few seconds, and Blaine clutched his key, waiting for the sound that would start the trial. After what felt like an eternity, he heard the claxon and felt something horrible wriggling all over him.
"Ahh!" he yelled in surprise. He found the first screw and began unscrewing it with the key as fast as he could, trying to ignore the...whatever they were, crawling up his shorts. He felt a sharp sting as thousands of spiky bugs were released all over him.
"Shit! Something's biting me!" Blaine yelped, stuggling to keep his hand from shaking too much as he kicked his legs to try and get whatever was biting him off.
He unscrewed the first screw, and smiled to himself with pride. One down, three to go. He could hear little yelps and the occasional scared comment coming from Kelly, and just as he was about to start unscrewing the first screw, he heard her yell "I'm a celebrity get me out of here, NOW!" and Ant and Dec calling the Rangers to unscrew her lid and to help her out of the crate. Blaine bit his lip as more creatures were released over him.
"Oh god, they're up my shirt, up my shorts, on my arms, my legs, they're trying to climb up my head but the keep sliding off my hair, thank god I brought hair gel with me...shit, it's on my face!"
"Do you want to know what's in there with you Blaine?" Ant asked.
"Yeh, go on then" Blaine sighed, fumbling to unscrew the final screw.
"Mealworms, maggots, cockroaches and grasshoppers" Dec told him. Suddenly, he felt something else crawling up his legs, something sharp and scratchy, and he felt something soft brush against his skin, it almost felt....furry.
"Holy crap, what is that?!"
"Those are rats"
Blaine's mouth dropped open. RATS!
"Oh, god!"
He felt the final screw drop, and he jumped up, shoving the lid off the crate. He ran over to his flag and raised it, punching his arm in the air in victory. Ant and Dec came over to him and helped brush him down.
"Congratulations Blaine, you've won today's Bushtucker Trial, which means you will be taking home meals for your camp today, do you think they'll be please?"
"They'll be so happy, and so relieved that we don't have to eat rice and beans again today!" Blaine said, smiling energetically.
"Okay, you can head back to camp now and tell them the good news!"
Ant and Dec waved Blaine goodbye, and he headed back to Snake Rock to tell the others the good news.
When he got back, everyone was waiting for him.
"I can see him, Blaine! How did it go! Did you win?" They all rushed up to him, eager to know how the trial had gone.
"I won! We can eat properly tonight!" He yelled. They all whooped and cheered, hugging Blaine and kissing him on the cheek.
They spent the rest of the day hanging around the camp and laughing together. It had only been two days and they had bonded loads.
As it started to get dark, they saw a bag being lowered over their heads.
"Oh my god, is that our dinner?" Fearne asked as they all reached for the bag. There was a note attatched to it, so Fearne picked it up and read it out.
"Celebrities at Snake Rock. As Blaine won todays Bushtucker Trial, you've been given Kangaroo tail for dinner. Enjoy"
The whole camp went quiet as they realised that they wouldn't be getting the meal that they thought.
"Well, we'd better make the best out of this, it's got to be better than rice and beans" Matt said, picking up the tail and dropping it back down.
"Who wants to cook?" Russell asked.
"I suck at cooking, seriously, ask my fiancee, whenever I try to cook for him, it ends up in disaster. The only thing I can bake is cookies" Blaine said, holding up his hands.
"I don't mind cooking it" Lacey announced, grabbing the Kangaroo tail and starting to chop it up.
They all helped a little bit, but Blaine stayed as far away as possible. He did not want a repeat of when he nearly set the apartment on fire trying to cook a romantic dinner for Kurt. No way.
Soon, the Kangaroo tail was read, and they all took a tentative bite, only to discover that it actually wasn't all that bad, if you mixed it with some of the vegetables they were given.
"Damn, I wish we had cheesecake right now" Blaine thought out loud. Everyone turned to stare at him after the sudden outburst. "Kurt makes the best cheesecake" he explained.
"I wish we had pizza"
"I wish we had lasagne"
"I wish we had pasta!"
Everyone shared their food fantasies again, and they all laughed and joked until they decided they should go to bed. Blaine got into his sleeping bag and clutched his pillow, imagining Kurt was right next to him.
"I love you so much" he whispered before falling asleep.
