Well, technically they lived just outside of Lima, in a small town called Fort Shawnee, but their house was far off in the distance, in the country side, so it didn't feel like they belonged to either city, just off in their own world. And Lucinda loved it. She pressed a sweet kiss to the dark curls the littered her son's head before quietly exiting his bedroom and returning to her own. She quickly cuddled under the covers and shut her eyes with a happy sigh as her husband's arms hugged her tightly. She loved nothing more than she loved this.
"Wake up, hon," James Anderson whispered, gently shaking his wife's shoulder. "You have to go to work today and take Blaine to daycare." The woman sighed, realizing she could no longer put this off. She stood and hugged her husband, giving him a quick kiss before going to take a shower and change.
Once she had gotten ready, James had already left, leaving Lucinda to take the children to the babysitter and head off to work. She smiled as she entered Blaine's room, seeing him sitting patiently in his crib, his big hazel eyes staring at her adoringly when he spotted her. He smiled widely to reveal the single tooth that had grown in. She grabbed him in her arms.
"Good morning, sweetie," She cooed at the boy. "Let's go wake up your siblings and then we can get ready to go to daycare." She said to him, going to her step-children's rooms. When the two of them, Cecilia and Lucas, had waken up, they went to the kitchen to eat breakfast. Lucinda smiled when she saw her coffee already made and a plate of bacon and eggs waiting for her already.
After their breakfast was had and everyone was cleaned up and dressed, Lucinda piled them all into the car, their large bag with changes of clothes, bottles, diapers and their favourite toys in the trunk. She drove into Lima and dropped the children off at the Hummel residence, where Elizabeth Hummel opened the door with a smile. She was going to babysit the Anderson's children.
"Good morning, Lucinda!" The 24-year-old said cheerfully, she smiled at the three children with her. "Hi, my name is Elizabeth, but you guys can call me Liz. I'm going to be taking care of you while your mommy and daddy are at work, okay?" She asked the two toddlers. The nodded, smiling. "Come on in," Lucinda entered the average sized house, handing the bag to Liz where she put it into the playroom that was off to the side of the living room. Liz let the children go play there while sitting on the couch with Lucinda who was still holding Blaine.
"Your children seem very sweet and playful." Liz stated, smiling at the toddlers who were playing with each other in the playroom.
"Those two aren't mine," Lucinda laughed, "They're my husband's, he and his past wife had them before they divorced. They're names are Cecilia and Lucas. Cecilia is 4, turning 5 in December and Lucas turned 3 in March. But they are like my own children. I love them to death." Lucinda sighed, looking down at Blaine. "Now this one's mine. His name is Zachary, but seeing as Cecilia can't say that without cursing, we call him by his middle name, Blaine. Which I think I like better anyways." Liz smiled, looking at the baby in the woman's arms.
"I can he's gonna be quite the heart breaker when he grows up. The curly hair and those honey coloured eyes -the ladies will be all over him." Lucinda chuckled.
"I'm guessing you're right. What about you, do you have any kids?" Liz smiled brightly, nodding.
"I do, I have a son." She told the other woman, her features lighting up instantly, "His name is Kurt. He's at his grandparents house at the moment, but he is a couple months younger than Blaine here, I'm sure they'll be great friends." Lucinda nodded in her mind, that's good, her son wouldn't be alone.
"Well, I better get to work," Lucinda said, standing as the doorbell rang again. Liz smiled, grabbing Blaine when Lucinda handed him over.
"Okay, have a great first day back, I'll call you if there are any problems." Lucinda went to work that day with a good feeling that everything would turn out fine.
-----------------------------------
Liz had been right, when Kurt returned from his grandparents house the following day, him and Blaine were inseparable. Even though they were very young, the two of them would sit together in the playroom and talk in their own baby language. Since it was the summer, Liz would take the kids to the park for fresh air, once again the two boys would sit on the grass, passing a ball between them or throw sand at each other in the sandbox. As the months passed, the two boys became more mobile and talkative. By Kurt's birthday in December, Blaine could say some words and both boys were walking.
By the time Blaine's second birthday came in June, Kurt could also say some words. Liz always watched the two boys with a smile on her face, they had never once fought like the other children she took care of who would yell about toys. The two boys would never leave each other's sides, Blaine had begun to hide when his parents came to pick him up at the end of the day. Lucinda and Liz would laugh as they waited for Blaine to finally give up and leave with his mother and siblings.
When they began preschool, the boys would play together and after the day ended, they'd either go to the Hummel house or to La Croix, Lucinda's restaurant for dinner. The both of them would sit in the back of the restaurant, sometimes they would sit in the break room and colour, other times they would help the chefs in the kitchen. Lucinda loved watching the two boys help pour sauce on to meals and hand cutlery to the waiters.
The two boys were always in their own world when they were together. Their mothers would joke that they would be those two boys in high school and college who were always together, that they would be the two guys that everyone would think of when they said the word "bromance". What they didn't see was how close the two boys would actually become. How they would help each other realize who they actually were and that they would be each other's first in everything, nobody could have prepare them for the future.
