Kurt finally had a day off from practice. He dressed casually and made himself a nice lunch. It was the middle of the week so Blaine wasn’t home, nor would he be coming home any time soon. It had been a week since their one year anniversary. The two had gone out to dinner and pretended to be in love. Kurt thought that he would live for these moments, but he abhorred them. They were a mockery to him. Each time he dressed up and went to dinner with Blaine, or a premiere, or anything with press, it was like he was getting to live the life he wanted so desperately. Blaine would put his arm around him and look him deep in the eyes. Kurt had to remind himself so many times that it was just because the cameras were on. Then they would return home, where the cameras didn’t catch the way Blaine went straight upstairs. They didn’t catch the way Kurt would scrunch his eyes closed in attempt not to cry. They didn’t catch the coldness that was ever present in their home.
Kurt heard the front door slam and he was shaken from his thoughts. “Blaine?”
Blaine came around the corner holding a folder. “Oh, hey Kurt. I didn’t know if you would be home right now.”
“I don’t have anything else to do,” Kurt answered simply.
Blaine nodded. “Well, I have something for you.”
Kurt’s eyes drifted to the folder. What was in there? Plane tickets? Were they taking a second honeymoon? Kurt’s heart jumped at the thought of maybe repairing things with Blaine. Kurt took the folder out of Blaine’s hands and opened it. The contents were not at all what Kurt expected. “Divorce papers?” Kurt whispered, as if saying it any louder would make it more real.
“Yeah. We’ve had a really… interesting year. I really appreciate what you’ve done for me and I couldn’t have stayed here without you Kurt. I am setting you free.”
The dam broke. Kurt couldn’t keep his tears in any longer. He walked around the counter and slapped Blaine across his cheek before walking over to the living room and curling up on the couch. His frail body was shaking from the sobs escaping his mouth. Blaine’s hand brushed his cheek which was on fire. Confused, Blaine walked into the living room. “I thought you’d be happy,” Blaine said quietly, standing a few feet from the couch.
Kurt sat up and choked back some of the sobs. Tear tracks led down his face and his eyes were red rimmed. “HAPPY!?” he screamed. Then he laughed and Blaine was even more confused. “You thought that handing me a set of DIVORCE PAPERS would make me happy!? What the fuck Blaine?”
“I’ve just seen how distant you’ve been lately. I know this last year has been hard-”
“HARD? Hard doesn’t even begin to explain what this year has been. At times I felt like my soul was being crushed. My heart was being ripped in two and I couldn’t stop it because you wouldn’t talk to me.”
“Kurt, I couldn’t.”
“Why not?” Kurt asked.
“Because,” Blaine answered. Now he was crying. “Because if I did then I would fall even more in love with you Kurt. You deserve so much better than me.”
Kurt started laughing again. Blaine looked at him and the pain in his eyes was evident. “I’m sorry. It’s just, I still love you. I’ve always loved you,” Kurt said. He got up and walked over to Blaine, placing a finger up to the boy’s lips when he tried to speak. “And I don’t care if you think I ‘deserve’ better. I don’t want anybody else, Blaine. I just want you.”
Blaine moved Kurt’s hand away from his lips and kissed the boy. Kurt wrapped his arms around Blaine’s shoulders and Blaine wrapped his arms around Kurt’s waist. The two kissed and embraced each other, tears still rolling down both their cheeks.
“I love you so much,” Blaine said when they broke apart.
“I love you too,” Kurt answered and kissed him again.
“I’m so sorry, Kurt. I was stupid and scared. I should’ve told you a long time ago.”
Kurt ran a hand through Blaine’s hair, tucking a curl behind his ear. “I was stupid too. I should’ve told you how I felt instead of bottling it up all the time,” Kurt replied and kissed Blaine again.
“Will you be my boyfriend?” Blaine asked, breaking away from the kiss.
Kurt started laughing and a smile crossed his features. “No. I will be your husband though,” Kurt answered.
Blaine smiled, “That’s even better!”
Okey dokey my lovelies, I have couple of notes:
1) I got so many great reviews on this story which were really amazing!!!! They really made me happy and smile, and it felt like all the months I spent working on this story weren't wasted!
2) Yes, this is the last chpater. Here's why I ended it like this. I could write fluff and happy married life for days, but I felt like Klaine has already been through a lot so the hard parts were over. Secondly, there is no epilogue because my heart really wants to say: 'let's have them throw a real wedding' however then it would be obvious to the public that their relationship is fake.
Thanks again for reading and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
