As Kurt and Blaine left hand in hand leaving the tree where Pavarotti was laid to rest, Kurt felt certain that everything was going to be finally right. He never held anyone’s hand besides his fathers and mothers. He never shared a kiss to a boy he very much liked. And…he never thought that someone somewhere would like him just the same.
Coming back to school after a devastating loss at Regionals, the Warblers were upset, yes, but only one Warbler in the whole room seemed to be happy, even if it meant that he missed his chance to go to Nationals and maybe get discovered. Blaine just had a smile on his face the entire time, looking at Kurt. Kurt was to into Wes’s speech saying that they did a wonderful job and he was proud to go as far as he did. Since it was his, David’s and Thad’s last year, they wanted to tell everyone how proud they were and how they were lucky to have a wonderful show choir.
But Blaine was far more interested in Kurt. He sat next to him, his hand only an inch away from his. Blaine wanted to caress it. He never actually felt this way before. Yes, there was Jeremiah but Blaine was a little desperate at the time. He thought that if he spent a lot of time with him he could have a boyfriend by Monday morning. Sadly, Jeremiah was 21 and if Blaine was seen kissing him, to jail Jeremiah went. But Blaine didn’t really care. He just wanted someone to hold and kiss and to think about.
When he got rejected he felt crushed. But he knew someone was out there for him. Even if that someone was sitting right next to him on the park bench.
Blaine smiled to himself. He looked at Kurt’s hand once more before taking it and holding it. Kurt immediately looked at him with wide eyes and a fair color of pink in his cheeks. Then he smiled and scooted a little closer to Blaine because he could. He could hold Blaine’s hand now. He could rest his head on his shoulder. He could kiss his lips that he longed for and…Kurt actually think of someone special on his mind.
Thad looked up from the big oak desk in front on him and smiled the biggest smile Kurt has ever seen. Some other Warblers turned around as well looking at the sight Thad was. Smiled filled Kurt and Blaine’s eyes as Wes finally stated;
“And of course, friendships that will last a lifetime. Or maybe even more than friendships.” He looked at Kurt and Blaine, “Way more than friendships.”
The final bell of the day rang dismissing students. Everyone left the commons with smiles on their faces and Kurt and Blaine just left hand in hand.
Holding hands in public was a very important day to remember for them because, everyone down the hallway just smiled. No nasty looks or death stares just…smiles.
Kurt and Blaine left Dalton that day with one thought on to their minds,
“A day to remember indeed.”
End of Part 1.
