Chapter 1

6.00am.

That was the time my alarm clock read as it made the most horrific noises, making me want to take the clock that was sitting on my bed side table and grab a hammer from my dad's tire shop and, well, you get the picture.

Sighing, I switched off the alarm clock and got ready for school fairly quickly, seeing as I had spent hours with my best friend Mercedes yesterday, trying to find the perfect outfit to wear to my first day as a senior at McKinley High School. We both took fashion very seriously. I ended up wearing my favorite pair of black pants, a white shirt and a black waistcoat to match the pants. I did my moisturizing routine and fixed my hair so it was styled as best as it could be at 7.00am in the morning, making sure there were no loose strands of hair across my forehead, and went downstairs for breakfast.

My step-brother, Finn, was already at the table, eating toast. I guess it's weird, seeing as two years ago I had the biggest crush on Finn, and now here he was, eating breakfast at our house, as my step-brother. But I loved Finn, he really was the greatest brother.

"Hey, man!" he smiled, talking with his mouth full. "You excited for another great year at school?"

"Hi, Finn." I replied, slightly disgusted at the way he was talking and eating at the same time. "What have I told you about eating with your mouth full?" I asked as I grabbed a bowl and some cereal.

Finn looked guilty. "Um… I shouldn't do it?" he asked sheepishly.

I nodded. "It's gross. And unhygienic. And Rachel hates it."

"Oh," Finn answered. "Well, I best stop then, if Rachel hates it, huh?"

I laughed. "You guys have only been dating again for like what, two months now? How long do you see your relationship lasting?" I asked, eating my breakfast.

"Hopefully forever. I'm not letting her go this time," Finn said, looking determined. I looked at Finn. I liked this Finn; he looked like he actually wanted to try his best at school this year. He deserved it, after the past few years and all that he went through, with Quinn Fabray and the baby and Rachel breaking up with him and all the drama that went on with that. Hell, everyone in the New Directions deserved a magical senior year considering the amount of crap we all had to go through everyday.

"You didn't answer my question," he said after a few moments of silence.

"What?" I asked, confused.

"Are you excited for another great year at McKinley?" he repeated.

"Are you seriously asking me this question?"

"Yeah, I kinda already asked the question..."

"Fine," I said. "Am I looking forward to this year? Yes and no," I finally replied after giving the question a few minute's worth of thought.

This time, Finn looked confused. "Yes and no? Dude, pick one or the other. It's a one word answer."

"Well, I am both looking forward to the year and dreading it at the same time. Yes, I am looking forward to being a year closer to reaching my dream of New York," I said, thinking back on the Nationals competition that the New Direction's had just taken part in two months ago. Even though we never even placed in the top 10, it was still by far one of the best experiences of my life. "But no, I'm not looking forward to the year ahead, because I just want to be in New York right now, I don't want to wait a full year. Being in New York just made me realize how much I want to be there. And I want to be there, like, now."

"Oh, cool," Finn said, probably shocked at the large answer I gave to his 'one word answer' question.

"What about you?" I asked him.

"What, am I excited for this year?" He asked. I nodded my head. "Well, I'm excited to see the Glee Club members, I haven't seen Tina and Brittany all Summer, so it should be cool to have everyone together again. but I'm not looking forward to all the tests and stuff. I'm kinda stupid if you hadn't already noticed."

I gave Finn a sympathetic look and spoke with as much adoration as I could muster. "Finn, you're not stupid. You just don't have the same talents as other people do. You were born with different talents. It would be boring if everyone was really smart and always got A's on their tests. But you?" I said, pointing to Finn. "You were born for greater things. Use this year to find out what you want to do when you leave Lima, Finn. You'll be surprised at how much you can actually do."

Finn stared at me, then walked over and gave me a massive 'bro-hug.' You're awesome, dude. You know that?"

I laughed. "I've been told. Many a time."

Finn let go of me. "Well, it's true. I love you, man."

I laughed even louder. Finn could be sweet at times. Even if he was a pain in the ass sometimes. "Love you too, Finn."

Finn was about to leave the house to pick up Rachel for school, so I decided to ask him a question that had been annoying me whenever I thought about Glee Club.

"Hey Finn?" I asked.

"Yeah?" he replied, just about to shut the front door behind him.

"Do you think new people will actually want to join Glee Club this year?"

He thought about it for a minute before speaking. "I hope so. It would be cool to have new talent in the New Directions," and with a smile, he walked out the door.

Not too long after Finn left, I ran upstairs to grab my bag. Looking at my reflection in the mirror, I fixed the strand of hair that just wouldn't sit right this morning.

"You better have a great senior year, Kurt Hummel. You deserve one," I muttered to myself, before leaving the house.

Mercedes was waiting for me beside my locker as I walked into school.

"Hey, Cedes!" I said, my voice making me sound much more awake than I actually felt.

Mercedes obviously wasn't impressed. "Shh, Kurt, it's too early and Summery for school or cheeriness. It took me an hour this morning to try and find my phone, and it was in my hand the full time. I'm not in the mood for McKinley."

I sighed and looked into my friend's eyes. "Look, Mercedes. I'm not too happy about having school today either, given how gorgeous it is outside," I said, looking out the nearest window to where we were standing. It was a lovely day outside, one of the nicest days of Summer. "But think about it, we're seniors now! We pretty much run the school now, and Glee Club is going to Nationals this year – I can feel it, y'know?"

Mercedes still didn't look too impressed. "We don't run the school. Like you said, we're in Glee Club. Incase you didn't notice, we are kinda losers. And about the New Directions? Yay, another year of drama, pregnancy, fights, break-ups, make-ups and did I mention drama?" she said sarcastically before adding, "The only way this year could be amazing is by you getting a little guy friend, because me and my boo Shane need someone to double date with this year."

I smiled, knowing that Mercedes was only trying to be kind by talking about relationships with me. "Nice try, Cedes, but we all know im the only openly gay kid at this school." And plus, I didn't like Shane that much. Mercedes was obviously only dating him to try and forget about Sam, who left for Kentucky during the Summer. She hadn't spoke to him since.

"It's a new year, Kurt. Something great will happen this year, 'I can feel it, y'know'?" She said, obviously mocking what I just said moments ago. I playfully shoved her shoulder.

"Oh shut up, Mercedes Jones."

"Well I just hope tha-" Mercedes tried to say before she was interrupted by the bell, singnalling that the first lesson of the new school day was about to start. She caught Shane's eyes and began to walk towards him. "I'll see you later, Kurt!" she said, before walking off to her English Literature class with her new boyfriend. I checked my timetable for the new school year. Apparently, I was in Trig first. Well, what a great way to start the year…

I walked into my trig class that same morning and was instantly greeted by my teacher for the next year, Mr Connor. I had him last year. He and I never really saw eye to eye on things so it was fair to say that I was reluctant to enter the classroom.

"Mr Hummel," he nodded at me. It was like we were having a conversation with our eyes.

"What a delight to have you to teach again this year," his eyes were saying.

My eyes were probably saying something along the eyes of, "I hate you. I hope you die. Okay. Bye."

Instead of saying something along the lines of what my eyes were telling him, I awkwardly nodded back and said, "Hi, sir. Have a good summer?" trying my very best to make small talk.

He chuckled. "Don't try to make me like you, Kurt. Improve your trigonometry skills then we might get on better than last year."

Last year, I very nearly almost failed in Trig but somehow managed to get a C- in my final test. Another reason why he probably doesn't like me. I'm the worst in the class at Trig.

I gave Mr Connor my very best death-glare and took a seat at the back of the classroom.

Mr Conner shook his head at me as I took my seat. "Hummel, don't think you can get away from me so easily. I've arranged seats for everyone in the class this year. You sit over here," he pointed over to a seat at the front of the class, just by the door. No one was sitting at the surrounding seats which made me even more annoyed, because Mr Conner probably decided to do this so that I wouldn't 'cause havoc' in his class, which is strange considering I've never said or done anything slightly offensive in his class before.

"Sir, you've never had arranged seats before, why now?" I asked, frustrated.

Mr Conner sighed. "Don't question me, Kurt. No one wants detention on their first day, so I suggest you sit where I told you to."

I gave my teacher another glare (two in the space of three minutes, it must have been some sort of record) and sat at the seat Mr Conner assigned me to. The lesson was relatively boring, just recapping what we learned last year and how good our grades were at the end of the year (well, except for me, I was obviously failing already and I hadn't done any work this year yet) and how well we need to do this year because well, for most of us, it was our last year of high school. Just the typical things that I was expecting just about every teacher to talk about on my first day back. Mr Conner was just about to pick up the textbook and start the first lesson of the year when there was a knock on the door.

"Enter," he shouted. After a moment of silence, the door slowly creaked open. Mr Conner picked up a sheet of paper from his desk. "Oh, you must be that new kid, erm, what's your name again?" he asked.

"Blaine Anderson, sir."

"Anderson," Mr Conner said, "welcome to AP Trig. Take a seat over there," he pointed to the seat directly across from me.

"Oh, okay," the new kid said, and stepped into the class. "Where again, sir?" he asked, his back turned to me.

Mr Conner pointed to the seat again. "Right there. Beside the kid wearing that ridiculous waistcoat," he chuckled, pointing to me. I gave my teacher yet another glare. Wow, three in one day. He was a lucky guy.

The new boy laughed nervously and turned around to look at me and -

Wow.

New Boy was hot. With a capital H.

He was short, smaller than most guys in the class, with hazel eyes and a perfect smile. His hair was almost black, and had a little amount of hair gel on it, just enough so that I could tell that it was naturally curly. He was wearing simple clothes, a plain purple polo shirt with a yellow bow tie on and blue skinny jeans with navy blue boat shoes.

And he was beautiful.

There was something in his eyes and his smile and the way his bow tie sat around his polo shirt and everything else about him that just made me want to know more about him, more than I probably should've wanted to and definitely more than anyone else in the class wanted to know.

He took the seat beside me and smiled directly at me. My heart skipped a beat. This had never happened to me before. My heart physically stopped for a second. Is this what Finn felt with Rachel? My dad with Carole? I had no idea. I just smiled back. "My name is Blaine," he whispered to me when Mr Conner's back was turned to us.

"Hey, I'm Kurt," I replied, trying to sound calmer than I actually felt.

His smile widened, if that was possible. "Kurt as in Kurt Von Trapp?"

"I don't know, maybe? I think so," I replied, laughing.

"No way! I freaking love The Sound of Music!" he said, and his eyes were sparkling like crazy so I believed him. Then again, he could tell me he was secretly Barack Obama and I would have believed him, I was so lost in those damn hazel eyes.

"Me too," I told him. "It's one of my favorite musicals." He smiled yet again at me then turned to face the board to copy down the note from the board that Mr Conner was writing, so I did the same, secretly hoping he would talk to me again.

He never spoke to me again until the end of the lesson.

The bell rang, symbolizing that I had to go to my next class (Home Ec. thank God) and Blaine quickly stood up to get to whatever class he was in next. But before he left, he walked over to my desk and said,

"Just for the record, I find that so called 'ridiculous waistcoat' amazing on you."

Then he walked out the class.

Yeah, senior year was going to be good.

End Notes: Review?? It would make me happy!!!
