Chapter 3
As soon as the door clicked shut behind him Kurt collapsed in a heap on the floor. 'Why didn't Blaine see? Of course it was safe now he was just being stubborn!'
Kurt felt another batch of hot, angry tears start to fall down his face stopping in the creases of his face. Pulling himself up and onto his feet Kurt started to shuffle absentmindedly towards his bed.
He had always hated being alone.
Even as a child he'd sneak into his parents room on the night and sleep on the bottom of their bed thinking they wouldn't notice. But still here he was sat alone crying in his room without even Blaine to comfort him.
All he wanted was her.
No one else just her .
She was all he'd ever wanted for the last 20 years.
To watch her blow out candles on a birthday cake, to pick her up when she fell, to hold her when she cried .But more than anything all Kurt wanted to do was see her, not even in person just a photo would do and now he had that chance.
But did he really want to do this alone?
If it turned out she didn't want to see him or that she couldn't be found, could he handle that?
Alone?
Kurt pushed his thoughts aside, clambered on to his springy mattress and hid beneath the darkness of his comforter.
Only then did he make his decision.
He decided whatever difficulty he faced he could face it alone.
He would face it for her.
Blaine lay staring up at the pristine white ceiling, questions swirling through his mind as he did so.
Is it really safe for us to find her again? I wonder what she looks like.
Where is she right now?' .
Blaine had always lived with the understanding she was gone, that his angel was lost never to be found. But what if maybe, just maybe they could find her? To see who she looked like the most and if she was well cared for. Maybe they could even speak to her...
Blaine smacked himself mentally at this.
He was letting himself hope, in his experience that was almost deadly. If he let himself hope for things to only get pushed back again, that would kill him.
Why did Kurt have to put this in his head?
They both swore they wouldn't go looking for her as soon as they left her that day.
But still here were both Blaine and Kurt considering the one thing they swore not to,
find her.
Sadly for Blaine, Kurt was adamant on going without him and it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what would happen if Blaine let him do so.
He felt like screaming. It was so frustrating!
On the one hand he could go with Kurt, keep his relationship intact, possibly find his long lost daughter and live happily ever after.
On the other hand however was the risk of it all? There were so many,
First of all they might not even find her and that would almost definitely crush the both of them.
Secondly if they do find her she might not want anything to do with either of them, Blaine visibly flinched at the idea but knew it was still a possibility.
And last of all what if someone followed them? That blew all other risks out of the water, the possibility that she could get hurt because of this.
Could he be that selfish?
Blaine felt completely overwhelmed with questions and thought the best way to deal with this was to sleep.
To practically hibernate and not have to worry about the outside world.
And so with the last questions spinning in his head Blaine fell into a deep troubled sleep.
Kurt startled awake the next morning to the sound of his alarm beeping.
The other side of the bed was still neat from where Kurt had made it before he slept.
He felt cold, he felt drained and most of all he felt alone.
Kurt's eyes were puffy and sore from all the crying he had done throughout the night. Outside the window rain clouds were drawing in from the west making Kurt give a loud sigh.
'As if this day couldn't get any harder' he thought.
The countertenor made his way to the bathroom, completed his daily moisturising routine, shuffled towards his wardrobe grabbed one of his more toned down outfits and slipped it on.
Quickly adjusting both his belt and bowtie Kurt took a deep breath and headed for the door.
"Time to face the music" he grumbled.
Behind the bedroom door the rest of the apartment was silent.
Grabbing the handle slowly, he pushed the door open peeking over onto the couch.
Blaine was gone.
The sheets that had been on the bed were now gone, all remotes lined neatly on the coffee table and the kitchen worktops were practically sparkling.
He'd been cleaning again,
he did it when he needed to think or when he was nervous.
How could he have just gone? He didn't even leave a note or anything.
Kurt was on the verge of tears.
Blaine was gone for good, he could tell right at that moment.
Even so he practically ran through all other rooms, checking if he was just in another room.
Nothing.
Kurt rummaged through the key bowl only to quickly realize that yes, he had taken the car.
Using his thumb and forefinger he pinched the bridge of his nose and gave a deep sigh.
"Taxi it is!" he mumbled to himself.
Turning on his heel Kurt scooped up his yellow rain mac with matching umbrella and headed out into the pouring rain.
Even though the weather was awful and he was alone, Kurt was excited!
He revelled in the idea of meeting his daughter and going on a big mission to find her.
Lost in his thoughts he had become unaware of how close he was to the curb, only realizing when a large truck zoomed past him through a puddle.
The water rose up like a tsunami and came splashing into his face and eyes.
OH MY GAGA!
Kurt threw his hands up in frustration.
"Could this day get any WORSE!" he shouted to the sky not caring who was watching.
Suddenly a red car pulled up beside him.
Kurt stared at it for a second until realisation hit.
'Wait a second, that's my car!'
His heart skipped several beats when the car window rolled down to reveal a beaming smile and deep hazel eyes.
"Well, I'm no expert" said Blaine
"But I'm pretty sure that raincoats are supposed to stop you getting wet"
He chuckled a carefree laugh
"c'mon get in; you don't want to meet our daughter looking like a drowned rat do you?"
Kurt beamed fondly, jogged around to the other side of the car and flung himself at Blaine.
"You came back" Kurt sobbed into his shoulder.
" Of course I did silly, as much as I love Starbucks I'd much rather come back to you" he joked with a wink.
He lifted his head back to look Blaine in the eye,
"What?"
"I went to get coffee" he explained gesturing to the items in the cup-holders
"Did you not get my text ?"
Kurt felt foolish, extremely foolish.
Like Blaine would ever leave him, that would be crazy I mean -
"You ready?" Blaine said taking his hand, interrupting Kurt's train of thought.
"More than ever" he replied squeezing it tightly.
And with that Blaine started the engine and set off.
