Blaine watched as Kurt gossiped with Rachel Berry. From what he had gathered through watching her on Kurt's youtube channel, she was clearly high-strung and so egotistical and self-centered that she could probably put Beyonce and Mariah to shame.
Blaine watched in awe at the man that he was so completely smitten with as he attempted to look busy. As Kurt talked, Blaine took in the way that Kurt would take a sip of the coffee and his tongue would slide across his top lip gathering any remnants of the drink.
The duo was close enough that Blaine could hear bits and pieces of their conversation, which had something to do with a romantic dinner, a man (Cam-something), said man's yoga instructor, and the plow yoga pose. They were too far away though to catch every word and Blaine was busy enough trying to get everything in order before he closed in an hour and half.
After about an hour of conversation Kurt and Rachel both stood up and embraced for a long hug where Rachel rubbed from between Kurt's shoulder blades to the small of his back. Not in a sexual way but more of a reassurance. Blaine let his mind wander, wondering what it might be like to run his hands down Kurt's spine feeling all his back muscles tense under Blaine's touch. Blaine could feel his cock twitch slightly. Shit. I'm at work. Think of something else. Someone stealing my favorite pink sunglasses, burning Katy Perry albums, Say Yes to the Dress being cancelled. It was gone. Disaster averted. Rachel and Kurt created space between them but never letting go of each other. Rachel, on her tiptoes, gave Kurt a peck on the cheek. Blaine could hear her whisper something like 'see you at home' and she strolled toward the door but not before looking back in Blaine's direction and giving him a suggesting wink whilst biting her lower lip. Color flooded Blaine's cheeks. She grinned, obviously proud of herself and walked through the doors leaving Kurt sitting at the high top table by himself.
Kurt sat there for another 20 minutes, periodically sipping at his coffee, which was probably cold by now. Blaine was now the only barista left for the night as Dixie and the others had gone home about an hour ago. He only had ten more minutes to go before closing and he could go back to his small shoebox apartment and get started on one the many projects that he needed to finish by next Thursday. The only people left in the shop were Blaine, Kurt, and the couple that had been all over each other the whole night practically making Blaine out right gag. Thankfully the couple was getting on their coats to finally take the fornication fest to a more private location.
It was now 11pm and Blaine really needed to get going it was a good 20-minute walk to his and Wes' apartment in the East Village. First he needed to get Kurt out of the shop. He sincerely didn't want to disturb the beautiful man. He looked so lost in thought as he gazed out the window watching the people scurry past outside. Blaine grabbed his cardigan that he had shed halfway through the night. Blaine figured there was no avoiding it. He started to walk toward Kurt, his heart racing. He stood behind Kurt, clearing his throat. Nothing. Blaine tapped Kurt on the shoulder. "Excuse me." Kurt jumped, being shocked back to reality. "We're closing."
"Oh sorry. I guess I just lost track of time." Kurt slung his Marc Jacobs messenger bag over his shoulder and grabbed his now empty cup and threw it in the nearby trashcan.
Blaine laughed. "It's fine."
"Thanks for everything." Kurt followed Blaine to the front door. "That was great coffee by the way. Definitely one of the best in the city." Kurt gave a warm smile and Blaine's heart leapt. Blaine held open the door for Kurt to walk through. "Why thank you good sir." Kurt exited the now dark establishment.
Kurt and Blaine started to walk in the same direction. "Are you going this way?" Blaine asked.
"Yeah." Kurt responded. Blaine's heart dropped to his stomach but tried to play it off cool. "Sorry you had to kick me out. I just had a lot on my mind and I must have let it wander away from me."
"One of those days, huh?"
"You have no idea." Blaine chuckled at this. They came up to 9th St., which is where Kurt usually turned to head toward the apartment. "Where are you headed?" Kurt asked.
"Um...I'm in the East Village." Blaine pointed the way to the apartment. "How 'bout you?"
"Greenwich." Kurt pointed the opposite direction.
"Oh...me too." Blaine said regretting it as soon as he let the words spill out.
Kurt giggled. "I thought you said..."
"I have an errand to run. I'll walk with you." Blaine offered a hand. "I never introduced myself. I'm Blaine."
The tall man looked down at the out stretched hand and decided to take it. "Kurt. Kurt Humm..."
"Hummel. I know who you are." Kurt pulled his hand out from under the animated man's grip. Blaine looked over at Kurt who was wide-eyed and completely creeped out. "Oh no. Oh my god. That came out wrong. You must think I am a total creeper. No, I just mean that I am a fan of yours. Your NYADAstud21."
Kurt let the breath out that he had been holding, knowing now that was wasn't going to be dragged into a nearby alleyway to be raped and killed. "Yes. Yes I am." He smiled at Blaine who blushed and hid his face away from the taller man.
"You are a huge inspiration to me. I don't even know how to thank you for all that you have done. You are the reason that I am even here in New York, actually. Because of you I decided to drop out of law school and got into art school at NYU. You probably don't remember but I sent you a photo about a year ago that I had painted. You sent me a letter saying how good the portrait was. It's ok if you don't remember me. I mean it wasn't that good and..."
A light bulb must have gone off in Kurt's head. "You're Blaine Anderson!"
Blaine snapped his head up to look right at Kurt. He gave the man a star struck look and the biggest grin that he could muster. "Yeah."
"Oh my God. That painting was incredible."
Blaine blushed and his gaze fell to the cracks in the pavement below to hide his rapidly reddening cheeks. "You're just saying that to be nice."
"No, no, really. That portrait of me was unbelievable. Is unbelievable." Now it was Kurt's turn to blush. "I uh...I actually still have that picture. I hung it up on my wall." Kurt looked into Blaine's sparkling amber eyes that had a smile all their own. "Oh God, that sounds so conceded. I just mean that it was really good I couldn't just get rid of it." Kurt averted his eyes with a smile. "Sorry."
"Don't be." They both just looked at each other shyly, not knowing where to go from here.
Kurt, swinging his arms back and forth, accidentally brushed hands with Blaine. "Sorry."
Blaine laughed to himself. "Would you stop being sorry?"
"Sorry." Kurt was kicking himself as soon as it came out of his mouth. Blaine just chuckled.
They walked for several minutes in comfortable silence. Blaine went to say something to Kurt until he realized that he was no longer by his side. He looked behind him; concerned that Kurt had left him. About ten feet back Kurt was looking Blaine's way with a sideways grin. "I was wondering when you were going to realize."
"Why did you let me keep walking?" Blaine said with a smile.
Kurt gave a little shrug. "I wanted to see how long it took you to realize I wasn't next to you. This is my building." Kurt nodded toward the apartments.
Blaine put his hands in his pockets kicking around the invisible dirt on the pavement. "Well I should probably get going. I still have that errand to run." He looked into Kurt's endless ocean blue eyes. "Thanks for keeping me company."
"No problem, I actually enjoyed it and God knows after the day I've had I could use a little fun. You took my mind off of a lot of things. Thanks."
Blaine looked at the ground and smiled. "See you around?" He once again looked up to meet Kurt's eyes. Kurt laid a small friendly peck on Blaine's cheek that seared into Blaine's face.
"See you around." Blaine turned and started to walk away from Kurt, touching lightly at the place that Kurt's lips had been and smiling with a wide, teeth-filled grin. Blaine heard a voice from behind him. "Hey...enjoy your walk home." Kurt gave a crooked grin.
Color went rushing to Blaine's face. "I...uh...I'm not...I mean..."
Kurt turned with a knowing smile and walked through the front door but not before yelling one last time in Blaine's direction. "Goodnight." Kurt disappearing into the well lit building.
Blaine walked in the direction of his apartment. "Goodnight," Blaine whispered so only he could hear it. Kurt was everything that Blaine thought he would be and more. So much more.
