Kurt carefully slid his finger along the edge of the manila envelope as careful not to rip any of the contents. "This one is from Blaine Anderson of Westerville, Ohio." He finally pulled out a very neatly handwritten letter. Kurt cleared his throat.

Hi Kurt,

My name is Blaine and I am a 22-year-old law school student living in Ohio. I know you probably get fan mail like this all the time as I have been watching your channel since its inception two years ago and I have watched you open tons of letters just like this one. I just wanted to let you know how inspiring you are. This isn't just a YouTube channel of you singing. It is so much more than that. It is the inspiration for that kid afraid to come out of the closet. It is the motivation to follow your dreams no matter how crazy. It is a happy ending tells people like me that it does get better and there is no need to be afraid. I know because of you that I can do anything and for that I just wanted to say thank you. Art is my passion so I included in the envelope a photo of you that I painted. It isn't any good but I felt that you have done so much for me that I needed to do something for you. It's cheesy and you probably don't want a picture of yourself but I was just so inspired. Thank you so much for everything that you do. Keep up the good work.

Your Devoted Viewer,

Blaine Anderson

Kurt slowly pulled out the hand painted photo of himself. He gasped, "Oh my god. This is incredible. This is very well done and you're wrong I could never have enough photos of me." He held the photo up next to his face and tried to mimic the look in the painting. "Thanks Blaine from Westerville, Ohio." Kurt laid the photo on the table in front of him. "Well that is all I have for you today but I am hoping next week to get back to signing. I have a couple of ideas floating around in my head, some that may or may not include the one, the only, Miss Rachel Berry so until then, as always, May the God herself, Patti LuPone, bless you. This is NYADAstud21signing off. See you next time everybody. Bye." Kurt flailed his hand around until he had successfully shut his webcam off.

Just then Rachel walked through the door. "Hey. What's up?"

"Not much just finished up another video."

She looked around the apartment,"Where is Camden?"

"His name is Cameron, but you already knew that. He said he had to work late tonight but he would call me later." Kurt threw Rachel a sideways glance as he already started to edit his video. "Why do you hate him so much?"

"Well other than the fact that he is stealing my best friend away from me? Something about him doesn't rub me the right way. He says he will call you but then you end up sitting by the phone all night waiting for him to call and he never does."

"He has a busy work schedule. I knew what I signed up for when I started dating someone from Wallstreet." Rachel shrugged it off, neither wanting this to end in the bickering match that this subject had provoked lately. Looking to change the topic quickly Kurt looked down. "Look what one of the viewers sent me." He practically shoved the painting under Rachel's nose.

"Oh my God, Kurt. This is incredible. This kid has some serious talent." She set it gently back onto the kitchen island next to Kurt's laptop from where he had been filming.

"I know, right? I don't usually do this but I think I might send this kid a thank you note. I have never had something so unbelievably beautiful sent to me. I mean I get fanart all the time but I think this really captures the essence if me." Kurt turns up his nose in a mocking stuck-up way.

"Ok, there is only room for one diva in this apartment, and I already have that position filled. I hear that there may be auditions for it coming up though soon, so keep your eyes peeled Hummel. I doubt that you can steal it away but you are more than welcome to try." The two laughed at the exchange glad that the tension between them had melted away.

Kurt walked to his room and taped the newly acquired photo of himself up on the wall above his bed. Once he was done adjusting the picture, making sure it was straight on the wall. He walked back out to join his best friend. "So what would you like to eat for dinner? I kind of forgot to make anything so how about ordering some Thai Me Up, popping in Moulin Rouge, and just having a relaxing night in?"

Sounds perfect. I have to tell you what Cassandra July said to me today."

The two of them called in their order and while Rachel went to her room to change into something other than her dance leotard, Kurt quickly grabbed a piece of paper.

Dear Blaine,

I just wanted to thank you for the very kind words in the letter and to say thank you so very much for the beautiful picture. You have an enormous talent and I sincerely hope that you continue to pursue your art. You deserve to get everything in life. Please don't ever hesitate to email me (or send me more of that incredible art of yours).

Sincerely,

Kurt Hummel

PS- You have a new fan.

Kurt quickly folded the letter up neatly and stuck the letter in an envelope, writing the address from the package he had opened earlier. He slapped a stamp on it and the return address of his PO Box. Just then Rachel came out of the bedroom. Kurt stuck the letter in his messenger bag to be put in the mailbox in the morning. "So shall we start the movie?"

"We shall. Lead the way my good sir."

Blaine opened the mailbox in the lobby of his dorm. Bill, bill, junk, advertisement. The letter at the bottom of the stack was addressed to Blaine but he didn't recognize the address. He gave a nod to Brad behind the front desk in the lobby and walked back to his room and threw the stack of mail on the small dining table. He slid his finger underneath the seal releasing the letter inside. He quietly read through the short letter.

After he was done he smiled as he struggled to keep the tears in, holding the letter close to his heart. He ran to his bedroom and placed the letter in his top drawer by his bed where he kept the all the things from his life that he thought to be important. The drawer held the booties his grandmother had knit him when he was a baby, the pocket watch his grandfather had handed down saying that it was tradition to hand it down to the youngest son on his 18th birthday, letters from old boyfriends, and of course, his art supplies that he kept hidden from the world and especially his parents not wanting them to know about his little secret.

Blaine was being groomed to take over his father's law firm. He only had a couple semesters left and then he would move back to Westerville as soon as he graduated and immediately start work at the firm. Deep down no one knew that he would rather spend all night with his watercolors and a pencil (which he did quite often) than study for his Juvenile Crime, Juvenile Justice, and Social Policy classes.

Blaine had always been into the arts, he was actually quite good at them in high school too. He was lead for his show choir for the Dalton Academy Warblers, his piano teacher loved him, he was the Tony to Crawford Country Day's leading lady, Heather Campbell's Maria, and his art teacher worshipped him at his feet saying that he had natural talent. None of that mattered though because he was destined to be a lawyer. A job that he knew he would hate for the rest of his life.

When he had come out at fourteen to his parents, they had accepted it. They had never been happy, but they had accepted the fact that he was gay saying that they hoped that he could be happy with the life that he had chosen but that they never wanted to see him act on it.

When he had brought up to his dad after his first year at Ohio State University that he might like to transfer to art school in New York, his dad had dismissed him quickly saying that no son of his would have anything but a serious job and if he wanted him to continue paying for his education than he would be a lawyer.

Blaine knew he wasn't ever going to be happy with his life if he stayed in Ohio but at least he could still have this one little thing just for him knowing that it would never be enough.
