Three days after Blaine's proposal of the move in and Kurt was not any closer to making a decision than the day he had asked. Blaine was being great about not pressuring him too much, only the light inquiry so far or the passing of it in conversation. He had even heard Blaine say yesterday, 'oh yeah I forgot all about it. How is that going for you anyways? Made any decisions?' but the look in his eyes every time it was brought up was that of a helpless puppy trapped and just pleading and hoping.
It was nearly 7 pm and Kurt was on his way back to the shop, Barney's bags in hand. He walked through the door to find a completely empty shop with the exception of an exuberant Blaine. "Hey babe," he called from behind the counter. "How was your day at work?" He came out and kissed Kurt on the cheek.
"I'm guessing much more eventful than your day?" Kurt inquired.
"Yeah. It was oddly slow today but I'm not complaining. A slow night every once in a while is acceptable and actually welcomed. I thought I might close early tonight because..." Blaine paused as he dug around underneath the counter to pull out something that had him giddy. "I thought maybe we could have a picnic in Central Park like our first date. Thought it might be romantic. If we hurry, we can probably find that tree and watch the sun set? I had Reese make that pesto pasta salad you like so much and I made sandwiches for the both of us." He seemed excited but just as suddenly as Blaine had turned to excitement, he turned right to second guessing himself. "Unless you don't want to, then we can totally just hang out here and eat upstairs and..." Kurt pulled him into a kiss to shut him up.
"That sounds perfect Blaine. Just let me go drop off these bags upstairs." Kurt went to move toward the stairs to the loft when he heard footsteps close behind him.
"What's in the bags?" Blaine was hopping along in back of him like Peter Pan's shadow before snatching the bags from Kurt's hands.
"Just some stuff that I picked up for Filch today, nothing much. Just a new water bowl that I saw today and a few toys.
Blaine stopped rummaging through the bag, his arm still elbow deep. "Kurt?"
"Yes?" Kurt knew what was coming.
"Did you get our cat (that made Kurt's heart swoop) a Burberry-esque collar and bowls?"
"Not Burberry-esque..." Blaine quirked an eyebrow. "It is Burberry." Blaine busted out in a gut-wrenching laugh before Kurt snatched the bags back. "It's not funny Blaine. A rep from Burberry came in today because we are doing a spread next month on how to dress your pet's this winter and I saw these and thought Filchy might like them."
"You do realize that you are talking about a cat that up until a few days ago was living on my balcony right? I think as long as he isn't eating out of a garbage can he will be happy."
"Blaine, that is exactly why I wanted him to have it. He spent who knows how long on the streets and he deserves the best now."
Blaine just let out a heavy sigh, all laughter forgotten and just looked at his boyfriend with the dreamiest eyes. "I love you." Kurt just looked away and blushed. "You care that much about that cat?" Kurt just nodded slowly hiding his face. "Kurt Hummel, you are the single most caring human being I have ever met." Blaine pulled him in for a passion filled kiss. "Come on. I want to go find that spot under that tree. Blaine took Kurt's hand and led him up the stairs to the loft. "Let's give that kitty, his new collar."
It was nearly eight when they finally got out of the apartment. "I told you he would love that collar, Blaine." Kurt jokingly shoved Blaine away from him before re-linking his arm through Blaine's pulling him back in.
"Fine, you were right. We have the single most stylish stray in all of New York City," Blaine joked.
"He was never meant to live the life of the streets," Kurt joked back.
There arose a silence between them. "So speaking of living on the streets," (smooth Blaine) Kurt rolls his eyes knowing what is coming next, "how is the living situation going, made any decisions yet?"
Kurt grabbed the other end of the blanket to spread it out underneath their tree. "No, I haven't made any decisions yet."
"Kurt, you only have, what two days? As much as I am of course rooting for you to come live with me, I am more concerned that in two days you will be without a place to live." Blaine smoothed out his end before setting down the wicker basket.
"I know but doesn't it feel too soon? I mean three months ago, you weren't even a romantic prospect and now..."
"Are you saying that you didn't love me like a creep from a far?" Blaine mocked as he emptied the contents of the basket onto the blanket.
"Well being that I had a boyfriend three months ago that was not you, no, I didn't fawn over you from afar. We can't all be as creepy as you." Blaine laughed.
"But seriously babe, I just don't want you to have no place to live. I mean if you pick to live with Finn and Rachel, that's fine, I won't be hurt or upset. I understand that we haven't been going out very long. I will be a little disappointed but never angry."
"Blaine, it's just a big step. I mean are we ready to be sharing a closet and a bed and splitting household duties and..."
"Kurt," Blaine cut him off, pulling him back to reality. He pulled Kurt onto his lap until his head was resting in his lap and started carding his fingers through Kurt's hair. "Kurt, if it is going to get you that flustered than we can drop the subject."
"I'm sorry. Part of me really, really wants to say yes..."
"Give into that part," Blaine said half begging.
Kurt glared at him for a second before continuing. "The other part of me, the more logical part of me, wants to say that it is way to soon and I do not want to ruin this. Erik and I moved in together within the first four months and look how that ended up. I don't want this relationship to end that way."
"First off," Blaine pulled Kurt into his chest, "this relationship could never and will never be like that because I am not Erik nor do I want to be like that. Second off, if it is that big of a deal to you just take one of the other rooms. I live alone in a four-bedroom apartment, Kurt. Take one of the other three rooms. If you want to, I can clear out my office. I don't ever use it. Why I ever thought that I would use an office in my apartment when I have a perfectly good office downstairs is beyond me." Kurt laughed at Blaine in his absentmindedness as Blaine is stroking through his hair making it much more unruly than Kurt would have liked but it was feeling so good that he couldn't find it in his heart to ask Blaine to stop. "Kurt you could have your own bathroom to take over with all the numerous hair and skin products that I swear you do not need, your skin is as soft as a newborn and this hair of yours is so incredibly beautiful."
Kurt sat up on his elbows. "Ok that's where you're wrong. I worked very hard to have both of those things. It's you who has the perfect hair that just looks so sexy even after you have just woken up in the morning. You cannot believe how unbelievably jealous I am of that."
Blaine ran his free hand that wasn't holding up his body through his hair absentmindedly as Kurt talked. He smirked before continuing. "Ok, but the point is, you have a busy life, I have a busy life. We lead very different lives that require many long hours. I own my own business, Kurt. I leave very early in the morning and I don't come home until late. You would get up and I will already be at the café and when you come back from work, I will still be at the café. I know that I put in long hours but I am proud of what I have accomplished and built by myself. What I am getting at here though is that, it wouldn't be like living with your boyfriend, it would be more like having a new roommate."
"Who just happens to be my boyfriend," Kurt said in a very accusatory tone.
"Well, there would be perks to the new roommate. For instance whenever I wanted to I could do this." The next thing Kurt knew Blaine was flipping him onto his back and pressing his weight into Kurt kissing him with everything that he had. Kurt gasped for air from the surprising turn of events which Blaine took full advantage of as he slid his tongue with ease in Kurt's state of shock. Soon after Kurt is pushing him away suddenly hyperaware of their surroundings.
"Ok, Anderson, I see the benefits but you cannot just jump me like that in public!" Kurt squeaks.
Blaine wasn't even sorry as he sat back up laughing at Kurt's disgruntle state. "Couldn't help myself."
Kurt just shook his head with a wicked grin. "You're pushing your luck Anderson."
Blaine's smile grew wider. It took several seconds before they remembered what they had been discussing. "If it makes you feel better, it can be temporary. I don't want to force you into anything that you don't want to do. I just want you to be safe."
Kurt went silent for several seconds lost in thought, considering all the options. On the one hand he could move in with Rachel and Finn. Newly engaged. Lots of sex. Sleeping on the couch. Listening to them all night long. Listening to them all day long with their cutesy nicknames. Gross.
On the other hand he could move in with Blaine. Nice bed. Nice apartment. Not cramped. Live above his favorite coffee shop. Gorgeous roommate.
"Ok, I'll do it."
"Do what?" Blaine asked mid-pour of the white wine that he had packed.
"I'll do it. I'll move in with you."
Blaine almost dropped the glasses. "You will?" Kurt nods his head with a slight smile. "For real? You are really going to move in with me?" Kurt nods again, this time slightly more frantic. "Like really, really?"
Kurt rolls his eyes. "Do not make me regret my decision already, Anderson."
The next thing Kurt knew he was being tackled to the ground with a bear hug as all the air expelled from his lungs. Once he figured out what was happening he pulled his arms tight around Blaine. They sat there for several minutes with Blaine's entire weight on him. Kurt was starting to struggle to breath with each passing second. "Not that I don't love you Blaine, but you are crushing the absolute shit out of me."
As quickly as it had happened, Blaine was retreating back to a sitting position. "Sorry, I just couldn't help it. You really want to move in?" Blaine asked biting his lip in the most adorable way.
"Well, only because Finn and Rachel have a one bedroom which means I would be sleeping on the couch and they are newly engaged which means so much sex and I have roomed with Rachel AND Finn before. Finn has trouble keeping it down when it comes to the bedroom. So you were an excellent second choice."
Blaine pushes Kurt playfully. "Hey!"
Kurt giggled. "Fine, living with you wouldn't be the worst thing in the world." Kurt gave a genuine smile that was soon reciprocated with a soft kiss from Blaine.
"Thank you." Blaine said holding tight to Kurt's hand.
"No, thank you. How could I ever pay you back for everything that you have done for me?" Kurt asked with a loving glimmer in his eye.
"You thank me everyday that you spend loving me." Blaine said leaning in for a kiss that was not meant to ever go as far as it did as Blaine's tongue slides past Kurt's parted lips. After a while Kurt needed to catch his air. So he pushes Blaine back.
"There needs to be ground rules." Blaine sat up to listen. "I pay half the bills while I'm with you, no exceptions. Rent, groceries, everything." Blaine nodded. "Next, it's not out of the question that we may sleep in the same bed every so often, I sleep over all the time now, but if either of us need the space and need to sleep separately, the other doesn't give them a hard time about needing space and we tell each other when something is bothering us, I don't want this relationship to have some tragic end because of the fact that we both were too proud to ever speak up." Blaine nodded again seeing that Kurt needed to get this all out before he spoke again. "We split responsibilities around the loft. I'm not some charity case. We are roommates now, I want to earn my keep."
"Ok," Blaine chanced a word.
"And last, this is temporary. Once I find a new place, I am moving out and I don't want there to be any whining about it." Kurt let out a heavy sigh. "Do you think you can agree to all of this?"
Blaine gave a sly smirk and said, "I think I can agree to that," and he pinched forward for a chaste kiss to the lips. "Now can we eat? I'm starving."
"Is it always all about food with you?" Kurt said helping Blaine unload the contents of the basket.
"I'm a growing boy, Hummel. Gotta keep up my strength."
Had Kurt been drinking something he would have done a spit take. "I think that ship sailed along time ago there sailor."
Blaine just laughed as he took out two foil wrapped paninis. "Now I made two different ones because I didn't know which one you would want so I will let you chose. Grilled garden vegetable or the Italian garlic chicken?"
"Must you even ask?" Kurt said as he snatched the vegetable sandwich right out of Blaine's hand.
The two sat in silence enjoying the cool fall air and the sun setting off in the distance as they huddled close to each other exchanging body heat for another two hours.
Kurt spent the night at Blaine's that night and the two of them were up at 6am. They had so much to do if Kurt was to be out in a matter of two days. Kurt had called in and had explained to Isabelle the predicament and told he that he would be in the following day. Blaine had called Wes and asked him to cover for the day as he helped Kurt move. He believed the exact words that Wes used were 'Good for you! Now you will have your very own live in sex slave at your beck and call'.
Kurt and Blaine spent most of the day packing boxes and throwing out the unnecessary things in the apartment. Thank god there wasn't that much to pack since most of Kurt's clothes had already made it over to Blaine's place, and most of the furniture had been Erik's or it reminded Kurt too much of Erik so the majority of the furniture was given to Goodwill.
All day the duo flirted and laughed and fought over what was needed and what was garbage (Kurt said that his American Leather chair that he had reupholstered with Chanel fabrics was a needed but Blaine refused to budge. Now some homeless person was sitting, living the life of luxury in Kurt's $3500 chair.) Most of the time though, they would just get so hot and bothered by the other one lifting something heavy or moving a piece of furniture, flexing muscles that they would end up in a heated make out session on any available surface or one was blowing the other. Sometimes Blaine wondered if they were a little too hot and heavy but then Kurt would wrap his perfectly delicious mouth around his swollen cock, his worries seemed to be a thing of the past.
By dinner, everything had been packed into boxes and Finn's truck that they were allowed to borrow for the day was packed and ready to go. When they had got to Interval the day's rush of people was thankfully over and they wouldn't be fighting a crowd to get upstairs.
Reese and Lacy were congratulatory and Wes was his ever-crude self. Kurt and Blaine had unpacked Kurt's stuff in an upstairs room adjacent to Blaine's. It was the next biggest room and was the only other room that had the space for all of Kurt's expensive things that he insisted on keeping. By the end of the day they were beat and decided on ordering in a pizza and turning in early. They both got ready in their separate bathrooms. After they were both in appropriate sleeping attire, Blaine made his way over to the other room.
"You all settled?" Blaine asked cautiously, not really knowing what to say.
"I think so," Kurt said equally as cautious.
They sat in silence not really knowing how to proceed. They had both slept here together many times but not in the time that they had been together had they slept apart. "Well if you need anything, you know where to find me." Blaine gave an awkward hug and a kiss to the cheek before leaving Kurt to sleep. "Love you."
Blaine was all settled into his bed but could go to sleep with no avail. It was about an hour and a half after he had crawled into bed when he heard a knock at the door. Blaine quickly sat up. "Come in."
The door creaked open. "Hey." Kurt walked in and Filch jumped onto the bed in the same instant.
"Hey. What's up?"
"It seems weird right? Being next to each other but not sleeping in the same bed? It feels weird? I'm not the only one?"
Blaine smirked, flipped back the covers on Kurt's side of the bed. He opened his arms in an invitation and Kurt gladly crawled right into them, burying his face in Blaine's neck. "It seemed weird but this feels right."
All Kurt did was moan as sleep was quickly washing over him. Blaine was right on the brink of letting sleep take over his body when he heard a soft voice. "This doesn't change anything. Tomorrow I go back to my own bed."
Right.
