Blaine watched Tess dart around in his room, giving him his treatment and checking his wires. He'd been hoping all day yesterday that he would hear from Kurt again but he hadn't at all. He'd had dialled Kurt's number several times but always hung up before it even got to ring. He simply didn't know what he could say or do. He didn't know if Kurt still even wanted to hear from him. It was only morning but Blaine felt utterly weak and it wasn't because of his illness or because of the treatment but only because he was fairly sure he'd never hear from Kurt again and it broke his heart. He was sure that this was the worst feeling he'd ever experienced. He wasn't even aware of Tess' chattering until she softly tapped his shoulder and look at him with wondering eyes. “Blaine?”
“Sorry,” he blinked, “I was distracted.”
“It's okay,” she smiled, “how are you feeling today?”
“To die for.” Blaine muttered.
“Blaine.” Tess sighed.
“What? You know it's true Tess.” He sighed.
“I know but that doesn't mean you should just sit here and waste away.”
“Then what do you suggest I do?”
“Live a little.” She smiled, Blaine rolled his eyes. Tess was always the optimist, she told him the same thing every time she saw him; to go live his life. “don't roll your eyes at me. I'm serious, Blaine. You are still very much able to live more than you do now. You choose to stay in this room even though we both know that you do not have to stay here.”
“I don't have anywhere else to go, at home they only nag about my choice. I like being here.”
“There'll come a time that you won't be able to leave this bed anymore! That you're so weak that you have to stay inside. Now is not that time Blaine, I wish you'd realize that.”
“You're not my mother, Tess! I consider you a friend and as my friend I wish for you to accept my decision.”
“And as your friend I want you to stop hiding in here!”
“I'm not-“
“You are!” Tess stamped her foot and then realized she really was crossing the line, “I apologize.”
Blaine ran his hands through his hair and sighed. “It's fine.”
“I shouldn't have, I mean...I should go, I have other patients to attend to.”
“Tess...” Blaine started as she opened the door but froze the moment he saw Kurt standing in the doorway, his hand half raised probably about to knock the door Blaine guessed. “Kurt!” he smiled, not being able to stop himself. Tess shot Kurt a little smile before she let him in and closed the door behind him. The moment it closed Blaine felt lost as to what to say, Kurt looked just as uncomfortable as he did and it hit him that this was the first time ever that he didn't feel at ease around Kurt.
“Hi.” Kurt eventually broke the silence. “I couldn't help but overhear,” he pointed behind him to indicate he meant the conversation between Tess and Blaine, “Blaine, is it true what she said?”
“What is?”
“That you're hiding?” Kurt asked and he closed the distance between the two of them by going to sit on his usual chair.
“I don't know,” Blaine shrugged, “maybe a little bit. But theyre being unreasonable. They want me to go out but technically Im only allowed to go out if someone is accompanying me. I cant ask Cooper because he lives too far and I dont want to ask my parents because they just give me a hard time about choosing the treatment Im on."
"You couldve asked me?" Kurt suggested.
"I didnt want to bother you with it. I didnt want you to know how weak I actually am."
"Is that why you didnt tell me at first?" Kurt asked.
Blaine looked at Kurt embarrassed and was happy to see that he was still looking at him the same way as he always had. He nodded, biting his lip. “I guess. I think first I didn't know how to tell you and then you were about the only person who treated me normal and eventually it was too late to tell you.”
“But I know now, so we could go out and do something?” Kurt smiled. When Blaine didn't reply he grabbed his hand. “What's wrong?” frowning.
“I didn't think you'd come back.” Blaine whispered.
“I just needed a bit of time to get my head around it.” He admitted.
“And now you have?” Blaine asked, his voice hoarse.
Kurt nodded. “I'm just angry. Not with you but in general. I only just met you and now our time together is limited.”
“I'm just glad I got to meet. I'm glad you're here,” Blaine admitted, “After our talk the other day, I thought I had lost you forever and when you didn't show up yesterday, I really thought that I had lost you.”
Kurt squeezed Blaine's hand. “You could never lose me, Blaine. I love you.”
Blaine's eyes grew wide but he smiled a brilliant and tender smile that warmed Kurt from the inside out. He linked his fingers with Kurt and slowly pulled him towards him. Kurt knowing what was going to happen, couldn't help but shiver lightly. Blaine's other hand went to Kurt's cheek, brushing the skin there with his thumb. Kurt's lips parted slightly before they touched Blaine's, it made him feel like his whole body was on fire. Kurt couldn't help himself, he pressed his lips even harder on Blaine's, their mouths slowly opening as he trailed his tongue along Blaine's lower lip. Their tongues collided and Kurt could taste the tangy taste of Blaine's medication. Blaine slid his hands to Kurt's side and pulled him, if possible even closer. They kissed until Blaine had to pause to take a breath, the two of them smiling like fools and both slightly panting. “I love you too, Kurt.” Blaine replied, lying his head back on the pillow, closing his eyes and enjoying the adrenaline that was rushing through his veins caused by their kiss.
“So,” Kurt blushed, “now that we've established this, do you think I could take you out some day?”
Blaine smiled “I'd love that.”
“How about tomorrow?” Kurt inquired, giving Blaine his best attempt at puppy eyes.
“I'm sure I'll be available.” Blaine chuckled, endeared by the look Kurt gave him.
“Great!” Kurt jumped up, “I better go and settle things then!” Blaine watched with wide eyes how an excited Kurt bend down and kissed the top of his head. Immediately his hand shot up and grabbed Kurt by the collar, receiving a confused look from the boy he loved.
“If you think that kiss will do, Mister Hummel, then you are mistaken.” He smiled and he pulled Kurt down so their lips could meet again.
“You awake yet? If not, get up get up get up! Xx” Blaine smiled as he read Kurt's text. The moment he woke up, he had wondered if it all had been a dream. If Kurt hadn't actually kissed him and had said he loved him. But the butterflies in his stomach had felt real enough to make him realize it had actually happened. “Morning! I've been up for an hour already, when will you be here? Xx love you”
“Should be around three in the afternoon :D why up so early? Xx love you too!!”
“I'll be expecting you! and I had to have some more treatment xxx”
Blaine went to lie back down and closed his eyes, the treatment always made him tired and with Kurt only coming in a few hours, he had some time to sleep some more. When it was noon, Blaine got woken up for his lunch, seeing Tess smile at him. “Nervous?” she asked when she saw his face.
Blaine swallowed and nodded, he already felt as if his stomach was in knots and he still had two hours to kill.
“Help me to choose what to wear?” Blaine asked. She nodded while she put down Blaine's tray. Him and Tess discussed what Blaine should wear all the way through his lunch. “Of course it'll also depends on what Kurt is planning on doing.” Blaine sighed.
“With this, you should be just fine.” Tess smiled.
“Do you know what he planned?” Blaine frowned.
Tess smiled. “Blaine, I'm your main nurse. Of course , I know. Kurt had to ask the hospital permission and he asked me for help.”
“Help for what?!”
“Relax Blaine.” she chuckled, “you'll find out what Kurt's up to soon enough.”
“It's just my first date ever.” Blaine sighed, “and I'm dead nervous. What if I ruin it?”
“Oh Blaine, Kurt loves you. Everyone will go just fine. Relax, you'll need your strength today.”
And even though Blaine knew Tess meant her words encouraging, Blaine couldn't help but panic a little bit. The last hour passed excruciatingly slow but eventually it was almost time and he could barely contain his excitement when there was knocking on his door. “Come in, Kurt.” Blaine called, beaming when his boyfriend entered the room. He was dressed casual yet smart and it made Blaine's heart flutter. “You look amazing.”
“You clean up well yourself.” Kurt smiled, leaning in to kiss Blaine. “Are you ready to go?”
Blaine nodded. “Where are we going?”
“You'll see. Now, come on!” he held out his hand to Blaine, who took it, and they laced their fingers together. Blaine already knew it'd be a day filled with ‘firsts'. This, right now, was the first time he held a boy's hand like this. “So, are you ready to go back outside?” Kurt smiled and Blaine liked the way he said it. He didn't make it sound patronizing, but like something new and exciting which it kind of was. He followed Kurt, both of them giggling and smiling as they walked through the hallway. “So what did Tess help you out with then?” Blaine asked, genuinely curious and secretly hoping he'd find out where they were going. “Just the medical side of this. I wanted to make sure if there weren't any risks.”
“Oh.” Blaine bit his lip, he felt stupid right now.
“Why the face?” Kurt questioned.
Blaine shrugged. “I just hate to think that my disease comes before me.”
Kurt stopped walking, making Blaine bump against him. “Blaine! Don't for a second that I think of your illness first and then of you. I love you, but you are important to me and we'll be outside a whole day so I need to be concerned about your wellbeing.”
Blaine shrugged but Kurt could sense he wasn't completely convinced yet, so he wrapped his arms around the boy before him and nudged his nose. Their eyes locked and he planted small butterfly kisses at the edge of Blaine's mouth, making him smile. Kurt captured that smile into a sweet kiss to prove his point. Blaine threw his arms around Kurt's neck and pulled him in closer to deepen the kiss.
“Well,” Blaine smiled as they pulled apart, “if this is a taste of how today's going to be then it'll be the best day of my life.”
“Come on.” Kurt chuckled and pulled him along. When they arrived on the parking lot, Blaine felt lost. Kurt noticed the look on Blaine's face, planted a kiss near his temple and tightened his grip on Blaine's hand. “It's this way.” He lead Blaine through all the different cars until they arrived at a convertible. “Is this yours?” Blaine stared.
“Borrowed it from a friend,” Kurt shrugged, “but I thought you'd like it.”
“I love it!” he jumped in the car, “let's go! I want to know where we're going!”
Blaine jumped out of the car, excited, as Kurt pulled it to a stop. "Blaine!" he laughed, "wait." "But its so lovely out here and the air smells clean and-" he grabbed his chest, a coughing attack cutting him off. Kurt rushed to his side supporting him. "Go slow, your body isnt used to this." Blaine took a gulp of air and nodded. He cursed himself silently, feeling ashamed for his own weakness. When Kurt thought Blaine had composed himself again, he linked his arm in Blaines and smiled. "Shall we go then?".
