CHAPTER 7

Blaine had no idea what to think of Kurt. How a person so kind and gentle and sweet and helpful could be the son of a hateful, selfish, killer bastard? It just was so weird. Could he trust In Kurt? Was he telling him the truth or was he just playing with his feelings?

Blaine shook his head and headed towards his assigned warehouse. His sister was assigned at the same one so that was good. He approached and when he got in he saw Evelyn sitting on her bunk with a sad face. He immediately rushed to her and kneeled in front of her legs.

"Hey Ev. What's going on? Why the long face?" Blaine asked as gently as he could. Evelyn looked up from her legs and that was when he saw the tears in her big brown eyes.

"They took Charlene today. I waited for her to come back but she didn't. So I started asking to the other kids where she was and Kyle told me that they took her to the tower. And when I asked him when she was coming back he said that never, that when someone was took to the tower they never came back out." Evelyn swallowed and tears started spilling from her eyes and ran down her pink, thin cheeks (Oh my, she was so thin, she needed more food, and so did everyone in there). "Are they going to take us to the tower too Blainey? Are we never coming back out here? What do they do in the tower? I'm scared." That last sentence was barely a whisper but he heard her, and he felt his own heart break. He had to get his little sister out of here. She deserved so much better. She deserved to live a happy life full of love and compassion and happiness and laughter and playing. He would not allow anyone to touch Evelyn in here. He would get her out before their number came to the list and was their turn to go into the tower...

Kurt had been up all night trying to figure out a way to get Blaine and his little sister out of that field.

After dinner he went to bed and started thinking. He just couldn't find a way to get them out. His father's soldiers were really powerful and after watching his father buy all those pistols he knew they had good weapons.

He had been trying to get some sleep, to get Blaine out of his thoughts but he couldn't. Every time he closed his eyes he would see hazel, green eyes staring shocked at him. His head full of curly, dark hair and his eyelashes long and thick. But now that he thought about it Blaine was thin, too thin. Suddenly he remembered Blaine's background. Kids under about 10 playing on the grass but kids older were working. They had work tools and were cutting trunks and were carrying boxes and bricks and lots of heavy stuff. They were making everyone work and they probably weren't feeding them correctly. And after that they were killing them! First they didn't give them enough food and then they overworked them and after that they killed them. Why was his father behind all this? Why did he hate the Jews so much to make him want to kill them all? Only because they had different beliefs? That was inconsiderate and intolerant.

He knew he had to go to the front of the field to know how things worked on the gate. To know who was there and how could he get in and get out again with two more people that weren't allowed to get out. But he will go tomorrow, a new day and he knew he had to sleep because it will be a long one.
