CHAPTER 20
This was the best news Kurt had ever heard. It was like hearing the most wonderful thing ever. His heart felt like it was about to explode, tears threatened to spill from his eyes and the sobs were forcing their way out of his mouth.
"Oskar! Oh my God! Thank you so much! I don't know how I'll ever be able to pay you back." Kurt sobbed. He was barely holding back his tears. All the things that he was holding on his shoulders finally seemed to lighten. Every color seemed to brighten.
Blaine was finally getting out of that hell hole. He was finally going to be happy and live in peace. Along with his family of course.
Blaine's family. He hadn't met his parents but if they were anything like Blaine or Evelyn they must be great people. Wonderful even. Evelyn. Little, sweet, kind, oblivious Evelyn. That little girl was such a sweetheart and he knew that just by the few moments she talked to him.
And then he realized he had zoned out and Oskar was talking to him.
"...okay at the end. "
"Um... I'm sorry... What were you saying again?" Kurt asked embarrassed. He couldn't believe he had completely ignored Oskar.
Oskar sighed "I was just telling you that it hadn't been easy. It was very difficult to be honest. But everything turned out okay at the end." Instead of sounding angry as Kurt expected him to, Schindler sounded amused. And to finalize Kurt's suspicion Oskar a let out a small laugh when he finished.
"And what exactly are you laughing about?" Kurt said indignantly. Kurt's question only made Schindler laugh much more and much louder.
"Just... you. You were thinking about him, weren't you?" He said with a teasing tone that made Kurt blush deeply.
"Not exactly. Maybe... A little. No. I was actually thinking about his family in general. His sister to be more specific."
"Ah! I see... You have interacted with his sister?"
"Yes. For a very limited amount of time. We only shared a few words. But just because of that I could see she's a very sweet girl. She's very kind and pure-hearted." He was beaming now. His smile was enormous and so sincere. Just thinking about that little girl made him so happy, and to know that she was getting out of that prison she was in and living a happy, healthy life made him feel warm inside to know that he had helped to accomplish that.
"That's good. We all need more good people in this world. Right?"
"Definitely. And I can assure you that they are the kind of people we want to see outside on the streets instead of trapped in a concentration camp waiting for their death."
"If that's true, then I can't even begin to regret all the effort that I put into this."
"Trust me. You will not regret it."
"Good. Good. I hope you're right." Oskar said, and Kurt could hear him smiling.
"Yeah, me too." Kurt muttered.
There was a slight pause. And then Oskar broke the silence.
"Kurt I really have to go. Paper work won't complete itself. I'll keep in touch okay?"
"Yeah, yeah. Please do."
"Of course. They are getting out at about 4 o'clock. So, do you want to go with me to the camp or would you rather wait for us in the factory."
Kurt thought about it for a second.
"No, I would like to go with you. But I will keep my distance. If they see me then we went into all this trouble for nothing."
"Sure. Okay. So, meet me in the factory at 3 o'clock and we'll part from there. Is that okay with you?"
At this point everything would be okay with him.
"Yeah. Of course. It's completely fine with me!"
Schindler laughed. "Yeah, I thought so. So, I'll see you tomorrow!"
"You bet you will."
"Perfect. Have a nice day."
"You too."
"Goodbye."
"Bye."
Kurt hung up and let out a long sigh.
"So..."
Kurt almost jumped out of his skin. He had forgotten he had company.
"Oh. Quinn, um... Yeah. That was... They guy that is helping me get Blaine and his family out of the camp."
"Yeah, I got that."
Her tone was teasing. She was teasing him again. And he knew why. His attitude and actions while speaking with Oskar had been a little over the top. He had gotten really excited and he had sobbed, he literally sobbed when Oskar told him the news.
"I'm sorry Quinn, but he's really important to me. Why? I don't know. But he is. He instantly became such an important part of my life. In a matter of seconds I was head over heels for him. He's just so special, I don't know what force drew me to him but I'm glad it did." He was smiling softly. Just talking about Blaine made him smile.
That's when Quinn realized it. Her best friend in the whole world was completely and irrevocably in love. He was lost in the immense world of love and she didn't even care because that was probably the best thing that had ever happened to his beautiful and kind and honest best friend. He deserved everything, he deserved to be happy and most of all he deserved to love and be loved in return.
