CHAPTER 11
Kurt was sitting at the dining table with his mother and his father having dinner. The atmosphere was calm but not happy. It had never been happy. He knew his father loved his mother dearly but they hadn't been the same since his father started taking trips constantly and spending less time with them. His mother had expressed to her husband how lonely she felt and after that long conversation he took her everywhere he went. But they didn't think about Kurt. He was lonely too. All his adolescence had been spent with the people that worked for them in the house. The cook loved him. The housekeeper considered him her son. The butler was his best friend (apart from Quinn obviously...). He knew he was loved by his parents but he felt more love from the house staff.
"Kurt." His father broke the silence with his deep voice.
Kurt looked up to his father and tried to smile politely. "Yes, father?"
"I wanted to inform you that your mother and I are going on vacation. We both need to relax and we are going to Hawaii for the next week." As soon as the words left his father's mouth Kurt didn't know what to feel. He felt sad and disappointed and unloved that his parents would go on another trip without him, but on the other hand he felt happy and relieved that his father was leaving for a few days so he could go and visit Blaine more frequently and he could do a little research without his father noticing.
"All right, father. I hope you have a lovely trip. Mother enjoy it." He said with a half genuine smile.
His mother smiled sweetly at him and said "Thank you, sweetheart. It pains me to leave you here alone again." She said with a frown.
"But mother. Don't you worry about me. I promise I will be all right. I have things to do anyway." Kurt said. He was very good acting like it didn't matter although it hurt a little.
"Things to do?" His father asked suspiciously. Of course he wouldn't just accept that excuse without explanation.
"Yes, father. University things. I have 2 projects due next week and I am trying to focus on them." His lie came out smoothly.
"Good, good. You need to focus on your education. Soon enough you will be a successful lawyer and you will be taking my place as the lead Nazi. There are still so many things I need you to learn but not yet son. You are still young and it is more important for me that you finish your education."
'Things I have to learn? Ha! Like killing thousands of Jews? No thank you father.' Kurt thought. He didn't want to do that. He wanted to make a change, and right now he was on his way to doing it.
"Yes father. Soon I will graduate and you can teach me how to be a powerful man." Kurt said with a fake smile and his voice dripping hate but his father didn't seem to notice.
"That's correct. You will soon be a very powerful man. Well son, have a nice evening. If you excuse me I have to go and check a few things before our departure." He said and then he looked at his wife "Love, I expect you to be ready in 2 hours."
"Yes, love." She said with a bright smile. And his father was gone.
"Kurt, sweetheart, are you sure you will be all right?" his mother said with worry.
He smiled genuinely, she had nothing to do with what his father was doing, she was a good woman. "Yes mother. I am positive I will be completely fine. I am not an infant anymore. I am twenty one. I love you and I will miss you but I will be quite all right."
"Oh honey! I love you too. I have to go and make sure the maid is packing our things but I will see you when we come back." She stood from her seat, placed a kiss at the top of his head and left the room.
He went to his room and lay on the bed. He was so tired. These last few days had been exhausting. The good news was that his father was leaving. And while he was out he could sneak into his office and take a look, maybe he could find something useful, the security itineraries or something. He changed his clothes and tucked himself in his bed. Sleep took over him. He dreamt of a boy with curly black hair and hazel eyes. A smile painted on his face.
