Thanksgiving was fast approaching, merely days away and Blaine was beyond grateful for the time off it would afford him. In the past couple of weeks he'd been commuting back and forth between Lima and Columbus. He had several questions to ask at Mckinley regarding the handling of Kurt's bullying reports. He also met with the Lima Police Department a few times, not to mention simply checking in on Burt whenever he was in town.
His work load at the firm got even heavier. Since the argument with his father, Santana had done her best to keep the two Anderson men away from each other, not that either had any intention of speaking to the other. Mostly she just just kept Blaine in the loop on where James was at any given time, in meetings, in or out of the office. Blaine was more than grateful for his best friend. He'd promised to hang out at the bar during their time off, drinks on him, since all of his work as kept them from their usual lunch dates.
Blaine hardly glanced up when there was a knock on his office door. There was less than hour left until the office closed for the holiday and he was determined to get out on time and with as little work to drag home as possible.
"Hey San," he muttered in the general direction of the door, not wanting to completely break his concentration.
"Guess again." It was a voice Blaine hadn't heard in nearly a year. He could see the self-satisfied smirk forming on the man's lips without even looking up. Blaine lifted the hand he hadn't previously been leaning on to his face and rubbed his forehead.
"Not now, Sebastian. I don't have the time for this." Confident footsteps made their way into the small office and long hands pressed down on the front edge of Blaine's desk. He raised his eyes to meet the green ones across from, sitting back as well to maintain distance from the younger Smythe. The two boys had gone to Dalton together, Sebastian only a year younger than Blaine.
"We should go out tonight." Sebastian stated more than he asked. "It's been a while don't you think?" He continued when Blaine had shown no response.
"Can't tonight, I already have plans-" he offered, feigning sorrow.
"To hang out with his hot as hell best friend and, hopefully, get smashed." Santana walked into the room then, a bright smile and commanding aura following. "What?" she continued, looking at Sebastian, "you think I didn't see your tall slinky disgusting self stroll on back here? Of course I saw you. One bitch doesn't miss when another shows up."
"Santana. Maybe I should go out with you guys. Someone should be around to help the smashed get home." Sebastian had no shame in letting his eyes roam up and down the other man's body. Blaine and Santana responded simultaneously with an abrupt no.
"Fine," Sebastian began standing up from where he'd been leaning over Blaine's desk, "I'm sure there'll be other opportunities, Blaine." Blaine scoffed at Sebastian's back from his chair as he watched the other man saunter out of the room and down the hall. Santana was still looking at where the lanky man had just left, "Promise me, no matter what, you'll never go for that," she said. Blaine had gone back to the papers laying out in front of him. His friend watched as he looked over the files and dropped the pen, deciding he might as well stop since he'd been pulled out at least three straight hours of uninterrupted concentration.
Blaine gathered up what would need to be done over the next three days. Once he'd stood and thrown his messenger bag over his shoulder, Santana stood up from where she'd been leaning against the door frame, "About time Blainers, the sooner we start drinking the better," she said with a smile on her face and a jaunt in her step as she took hold of Blaine's wrist and pulled him to the elevator.
The sun was nearly gone when they stepped out of the elevator and walked through the buildings main lobby. Last bits of sunlight reflected off the other buildings outside and shown into the windows. Crisp November air greeted the friends as they stepped outside. Immediately, both wrapped long scarves around their necks. Santana reached out her arm over the street to call a cab. The bar that they were going to, and that they often hung out at after long days, was only a few blocks away but the weather wasn't worth the walk.

Nonstop laughter was coming from the table where Blaine and Santana had spent the last few hours. A half empty beer glass sat in front of Blaine, another in a similar state rested in a small pool of water across from an empty seat. Santana had gone up to the stage, it was the third time she'd been up for karaoke. Blaine could hardly comprehend the song she was singing, if because of his current state or his best friends, he wasn't sure. All he knew is that this beautiful friend of his was trying very hard to seduce him from the stage and he couldn't help the uncontrollable laughter.
Santana finished her song to a very loud round of applause and wolf whistles. Falling against the table when she made it back to Blaine, she kicked her heels off and jumped up onto the chair. Finishing off her beer, Santana put her glass back down a little harder than she intended and one of the shot glasses that were also cluttering the small round table fell over. Blaine erupted into giggles again. Santana waved her hand to get the attention of the bartender to get two more shots.
"Still not into it, huh?" Blaine shook his head.
"I love you San, but no. Still gay. Always gay." Their final round of shots arrived and they were gone only seconds later.
"I know, I know. Won't ever stop me from trying." Santana winked playfully at her friend.
Finding his keys in the small messenger bag shouldn't have been as difficult as it was seeming to be. Shoulder pressed against the door, Blaine couldn't manage to operate the strap on his bag let alone the buttons and zippers. Every time the soft leather strap found its way around his hand he would start laughing, loosing the small amount of motor skills he had left. Santana's hands only getting in the way when she attempted to help, they looked like small children having a pretend fight.
"Sannnn, st-stop stop. I got em!" Blaine threw his hand in the air when he finally got a hold of his keys. A childlike grin plastered to his face.
"God hobbit, it's about time," Santana groaned at him. She began stepping out of her shoes, that had hardly made it back on her feet at the bar, and pulling her on her shirt. The white button down shirt was sliding off her shoulders as they finally got through the door. It hit the floor somewhere near the arm of the couch when Santana collapsed onto it, one leg over the side and arms above her head.
"Blainers, hmmmm, drinking is fun." Santana's words cut through her now dreary state. "God! You have such a comfy couch. I should live here. I should definitely sleep here. Live here too, Blainers. Blaaaaaiiiiiine..."
A head of semi-curly hair appeared in the doorway to the kitchen. The familiarity of being home allowed tiredness to take over the laughing fit that Blaine hadn't been able to shake for a good two hours.
"You did live here, remember." Blaine's eyes blinked slowly, dreariness sweeping over him. "There was reason you moved out." Santana hummed at him, eyes already closed. Blaine walked over to his friend who was more asleep than awake now. "G'night."
Blaine made his way through the apartment to his bedroom. The moon gave the only light in the small room. Stumbling out of the clothes that he could muster up the energy to get off, Blaine collapsed onto his bed, facing the window. He pulled his arms up under his pillow and snuggled into the warmth of his bed, closing his eyes.
Minutes later the moonlight falling over his face was disrupted and Blaine opened his eyes, having noticed the light change momentarily. He picked his head up and looked curiously at the curtains hanging over his window. Settling back down, Blaine closed his eyes once more to go to sleep when it happened again. This time he sat up a little more in his bed, looking more over the room than just at the window. Silence blanketed the room until a small clink, barely audible if Blaine hadn't been paying attention, came from his dresser.
Blaine turned the lamp on his bedside table on as he slid out of bed. He picked up one of his shoes that had ended up next to his bed when he'd attempted to get undressed. He approached the dresser carefully, the light from the lamp was dim at best, usually needing time to warm up. If it was some kind of flying bug, he didn't want to startle it. Coming up to the dresser, he slowly raised his hand that held the slightly scuffed black dress shoe. At first glance nothing looked disturbed, then Blaine noticed that his old class ring from Dalton was lying next to the picture of himself and the Warblers. The ring had sat on the top of the picture frame for years now.
The shoe came up level to his face and Blaine peered behind the large photo. As soon as he began to pick up the frame something flew past his face. He squeezed his eyes shut, as one typically does when something is flying at your face. All he could recognize was the sound of wings and then whatever it was had gone, leaving Blaine staring after it. Blaine stood still in the room for a little longer, eyes sweeping across the room, ears open for the slightest sound. There was nothing. When all he could hear was his own breathing and heat kick on, he dropped the shoe on the floor at the end of his bed and crawled into it, sighing at the sudden realization that he could sleep in.
