Kurt sat on a stool in the middle of the stage and sang along to a back track after school one day. He was practicing a new song for Glee club that week and wanted to get it absolutely perfect because it was for Blaine.

He didn't notice the little red haired girl watching him from the piano bench. He didn't notice she was crying at his song, didn't notice she watched Kurt and Blaine at their lockers every day, watched them sharing secret looks and smiles.

The song came to a slow end and Kurt sat there lost in his thoughts until he heard a small noise behind him, whipping around and saw the little red haired girl, both staring wide eyed at being caught. She moved quickly off the bench and ran through the wings before he could even process what just happened.

He had a lot of questions when he talked to Blaine on Skype that night.

"I swear I would have noticed her around school before. Her hair Blaine, it was so messy and I don't think she owns a brush. That's not the point though, what was she doing there?" he said, looking at Blaine who was deep in thought.

He answered slowly "I don't know babe, she was just sitting there? She certainly doesn't sound threatening albeit a bit strange but maybe she just really likes your voice. I can't blame her for that." Kurt smiled lovingly at his boyfriend, drifting from talk about the girl.

The next morning Kurt and Blaine met at Kurt's locker as usual and he was discussing the girl from yesterday again when he saw her just down the hall. It was really the hair that tipped him off, that's why he was sure he'd have noticed her before.

Her hair was reminiscent of a lion’s mane, it was long and there was so much of it. Even in the braid she was wearing today it was messy and unruly, she obviously didn't brush it and he felt the itch to go over and calm the mess.

Blaine followed his stare, "Is that her?" he asked, looking her up and down.

Blaine thought she really couldn't have meant anything bad, she was small, not in a skinny way but she could only have been 5'1 and everything was just small about her. She looked really familiar to him but he couldn't place where he would have seen her.

Kurt shut his locker, catching Blaine's attention and they walked off to their classes.

They didn't discuss the girl again until lunch time when they passed her in the hallway; she was walking against the crowd of students going to the cafeteria.

“Blaine, look, there she is again.” Kurt said, tugging on Blaine’s sweater sleeve, changing his direction and pulling Blaine along with him.

“Kurt, why are we following her?” Blaine asked as he followed Kurt through the halls, towards the auditorium.

“Because she was just sitting behind me, Blaine, I could tell she had been crying. That’s not normal; I want to know what she was doing.”

Kurt guided them around the corner as Blaine shook his head at his boyfriend and smiled, “You’re adorable when you play detective, you’re the Sherlock to my Watson.”

Blaine grabbed Kurt’s hand as they walked through the auditorium door.

Kurt stayed hidden in the wings, looking around the stage but he didn’t see the girl. He was sure she had come in here but maybe he was wrong and now he was alone with Blaine. Kurt would never say no to alone time with Blaine.

“It seems that we’re alone Mr. Anderson”

Kurt shot Blaine a coy look. He was about to turn around when he felt Blaine’s hands cover his hips and warmth crowd his back as Blaine pressed against him, sliding his arms around Kurt’s middle.

Kurt let out a contented sigh as Blaine nuzzled his neck before placing a small kiss behind his ear. “Blaine,” Kurt breathed out, turning in Blaine’s arms, kissing him softly before pulling away and hugging him closer.

The sound of light footsteps on the stage broke the moment and they hurriedly pulled away, thrust back into the reality of them being at school and not being entirely safe.

Blaine peeked around the side curtain and saw the girl they had been following.

“It’s her Kurt.”

He turned back to the other boy. Kurt’s eyebrows shot up.

“I knew she came in here!” he whispered excitedly.

“Now what do we do?” Blaine whispered back.

He wasn’t sure what Kurt had in mind but he was beginning to get intrigued as he watched the girl sit at the edge of the stage and lay on her back. They watched as she closed her eyes and put ear buds in, Blaine shooting Kurt a look before Kurt started walking over to her.

As Kurt got closer the girl’s eyes shot open and she ripped her ear buds out, scrambling back before stopping.

“Oh thank God, you scared the shit out of me.” She hissed before cracking a small smile.

Blaine walked up behind Kurt, who had stopped the moment the girl had moved.

“We didn’t mean to scare you, we –we just want to talk.” Blaine said hesitantly, looking at Kurt as he said they wanted to talk. He really didn’t know what Kurt had intended on doing but every now and then he could guess one right.

The girl sat back where she had been before.

“I know, I know. Kurt and Blaine, right?” she gave them a sideways glance, “No real offense but you two aren’t exactly frightening.” She fiddled with her hands, avoiding looking at the two boys.

Kurt sat down next to her, “Who are you?” he asked. Blaine sat down on the other side of her, earning them suspicious side eye looks.

“I’m Cas, sixteen years old, junior, not from here. None of that’s really important though, those are just my statistical measures, that’s just really what I am not really who I am. You asked a pretty loaded question, Kurt.” Cas said, smiling down at her hands and feet.

Blaine breathed out a small laugh, she was not what he was expecting and he was sure Kurt hadn’t been expecting anything like that either.

Kurt was giving Cas an amused look, she was quick and he couldn’t help but be endeared towards her, he was seriously considering inviting her for a sleepover.

“So Kurt and Blai-.” Kurt cut her off, “How do you know who we are?” he inquired, she seemed to know more about them than she was letting on and Kurt wasn’t oblivious to that.

Cas looked back and forth at them, “Well, I’m not stupid. Kurt Hummel, Glee club, Finn’s stepbrother, openly gay, openly gay bashed, stupidly perfect hair and fashion that occasionally leaves me questioning all sanity."

"Then there is Blaine Anderson, former prep school boy, also Glee club, I’ve had to assume only child, bit of a temper but typically one of the most put together, insecure, puppy like person I’ve ever come across. Also, hair helmet makes me sad but that’s just personal.” She grinned at the boys who were giving her strange looks.

Neither of them knew just how to react to somebody they had never known existed before yesterday seemed to know them.

“How do you know this stuff?” Blaine asked brow furrowed as he tried to think of where he might have seen her before.

“Honestly? Everything I just said is surface information, things you can gather by casually observing somebody. The way I make it through the school day is by watching the other people. You’d be surprised by what I’ve picked up about this place. You two are no exception to that, my locker is right down the row from Kurt’s. I see a lot.”
Cas hung her head, looking back at her feet which she quickly deemed to be interesting.

She didn’t want them to know she watched them as much as she did, she did watch a lot of people pretty closely but she always found herself watching three couples more than anything.

The bell rang overhead, signaling the end of the lunch period.

Cas quickly stood and so did Kurt, “Give me your number.” He didn’t so much request as demand.

Cas didn’t question him and rattled it off before walking out of the auditorium.

Kurt turned to Blaine, “That was kind of strange.” He said.

Blaine nodded in agreeance, “Come on let’s get to class.”

Blaine moved over to Kurt and placed a hand on the small of his back, guiding them to the stage door.
