Author's Notes: There's not much Klaine in chapter 1, but there will be later I promise ;]
Blaine shot a look at the TV screen, only 4 minutes to go. He sat in the sofa looking round in the tiny room. It was quite dark, except from a small lamp in the corner.
When he’d first moved to New York, he’d thought that getting a job would be easy, New York’s big, there ought to be someone in need of a hair-dresser? But no, not yet. It wasn’t that he hadn’t tried, he’d searched all over, but all the hair dressers around the city center was all full so Blaine decided to wait, and keep his eyes open.
Blaine changed his position in the red couch as he program on the TV changed, and a reporters face filled the screen. ‘’And now, from outside the Tony awards, we will have a talk with one of Broadway’s Greatest stars’’ Blaine leaned closer to the screen ‘’so, Kurt Hummel, are you excited for tonight?’’
‘’Yes, very, I’ve been looking forwards to it for a while now, thank you,’’ Kurt Hummel smiled one of his dazzling smiles, and Blaine felt his heart jump.

He knew celebrity crushes were silly. He knew it would eventually go away, and Kurt Hummel was extremely beautiful and talented and could basically have whoever he wanted, and why on earth would he ever notice a plain hairdresser from Ohio? Or ever find him for that matter, New York was enormous for crying out loud.
Blaine sighed and turned off the TV as soon as the camera turned away from Kurt’s angelic face and to the annoying reporter.
‘’Forget it Anderson,’’ sounded a voice behind him, and Blaine twirled around, to see a sleepy Wes standing in the doorway. ‘’Why are you up this late Wes, didn’t you have a job interview tomorrow?’’
Wes glared at him, ‘’Yeah but I couldn’t sleep over the sound of you drooling over that movie star.’’
‘’He’s not…’’
‘’What?’’
‘’He’s not a ‘movie-star’ he’s a Broadway phenomenon!’’
Wes sighed ‘’Blaine, look at you, you need to forget about this it’s getting out of hand.’’
‘’No, you’re wrong, go to bed Wesley.’’
But the truth was that Wes was right, it was getting out of hand, every time Blaine got the opportunity, he’s either turn on the TV, or go see wicked on Broadway, just so that he could stare at Kurt Hummel.
Wes sighed even deeper, and went back into his room, and Blaine decided that maybe it was time to go to bed himself it was half past twelve anyway.

He woke next morning with a feeling like his puppy had just died. Wes had already left, not wanting to wake his snoring roommate, he knew the whole Kurt Hummel case would soon be closed and he would have his best friend back to normal in no time.
Blaine made breakfast and was halfway through eating it when the phone rang. He jumped lightly and ran across the living room, to pick it up ‘’Blaine Anderson,’’ He said in his professional voice.
‘’Mr. Anderson, my name is Sebastian Smythe, I’m the owner of Hair And Things, you talked to me about a month ago, we now have a job for you, if you are still interested of course.’’
Blaine made a little jump, ‘’really? I would love to!’’
He could hear Sebastian smiling ‘’You’ll, of course, have to prove to us that you can actually do the styling and cutting, but then, if we’re satisfied with you, the job is yours, can you come down today?.’’
Blaine couldn’t believe it, he was going to be an actual hairdresser in New York City, ‘’Yes of course, thank you Mr. Smythe, I’ll be down in an hour!’’
He hung up, and couldn’t help making a few dance moves across the living room. He finished his breakfast in three big spoonfuls and hurried into his room to find something descent to wear.

exactly an hour later he stepped into Hair And Things, and was greeted by a smiling Sebastian Smythe, who shook his hand, ‘’welcome Blaine, we’re happy to see you, this Is Brittany and Santana over there,’’ two pretty girls waved at him from across the salon, Blaine smiled politely back ‘’ I’m sure you’ll all get along just great,’’ Another woman came out of what Blaine assumed was the storage room, and Sebastian grinned as she walked towards them, ‘’Hi, Blaine right? I’m Mercedes,’’ she shook his hand and gave him a friendly smile ‘’It’s nice with some more man-power around here, I think Sebastian sometimes gets kind of lonely,’’ she laughed and elbowed Sebastian before going to the counter to take care of a new customer.
‘’Well Blaine, let’s get started, let me see what you can do!’’

The days went by, working at Hair and Things was what Blaine had always dreamed of, and he quickly bonded with his colleges. Santana could be a bitch sometimes, and Brittany was not the sharpest, but they sure was sweet and very dedicated to their job, and Mercedes was just amazing, she quickly became very good friends with Blaine. He learned that she’d been living in New York for four years, and had always wanted to be a hairdresser, but that she also loved singing. Sometimes, when they were closing up, they sang amazing duets together.
‘’One day, Mercedes said on one of their many caf’ visits, ‘’we’re going to work on Broadway. I’ll get to sing on a real stage, and you’ll get to see that Kurt Hummel, and we both win right?’’
Blaine sighed, ‘’yeah, that sounds great ‘Cedes just one problem, we are hairdressers, not musical material, we’d never get in. Someone like Kurt Hummel has been on several schools, learning about musical theatre, I’ve never done anything like that!’’
‘’That doesn’t mean that you’re not good!’’ she protested ‘’there’s plenty of uneducated musical stars out there.’’
Blaine lifted an eyebrow ‘’name one.’’
‘’Uh…’’ Mercedes was luckily saved by a yelling crowd that ran past them just as they stepped out of the caf’. ‘’what’s going on?’’ Blaine yelled as more people came running, they seemed to be moving towards the hotel further down the street. Blaine knew the hotel, it was one of the more expensive ones as far as he knew. He and Mercedes moved along with the people, getting closer to the hotel, and that was when Blaine saw him.
First it was just a peek of hair he could see behind the screaming people, but then the hair turned around and he saw him. Blaine let out a gasp, and a second later Mercedes elbowed him and grinned, ‘’isn’t that your loverboy?’’
Blaine just starred ‘’that’s…’’ was all he could get out, and he moved a little closer to the smiling star. Kurt was writing autographs for his screaming fans, and a bunch of photographers was constantly snapping pictures of him, it was all so overwhelming, and wonderful at the same time. But then Kurt looked up at him. All the flashlights and screams and ‘I love you’s’’ faded away, as their eyes locked. It only lasted a second, then an overexcited fan pushed him in the ribs to get closer, and Blaine looked away for half a second, and when he looked up, Kurt had moved his attention to a jumping brunette who was chanting ‘’I love you so much!’’ over and over again.
A tough looking bodyguard poked Kurt on the shoulder, and whispered something in his ear. Kurt nodded at him and bid his fans goodbye, to walk into the pricy looking hotel, and Blaine stared hopefully after him, he didn’t move until Mercedes carefully touched his arm, ‘’come on you dreamer, time to get back to the salon, we’re late’’
Blaine nodded at her, a weird feeling spread in his stomach. He’d looked at him; Kurt had looked at him, right into his eyes, and Blaine regretted that he’d just stared back instead of smiling or at least do something instead of just standing there looking like a complete idiot. He sighed, he was just another fan, what made him different from that jumping brunette? Exactly… nothing.

That night Blaine didn’t sleep well. He kept having the same wicked dream over and over again: He was standing on the same street as he’d done earlier that day, and Kurt Hummel was there, looking at him with those blue/green eyes. Blaine reached out to touch him, but the bodyguard kept pushing him away, and Kurt’s eyes grew sadder, so sad that they became big and black and Blaine couldn’t take it anymore, he woke with a scream, and breathed heavily.
‘’Dude, what’s with you?’’ sounded Wes’ voice from the doorway.
‘’uh, just a nightmare,’’ Blaine mumbled a little out of breath.
Wes looked at him, a little worried, and sat on the bed beside him ‘’anything you want to share?’’ he asked.
‘’just about my father,’’ Blaine lied and then shook his head ‘’nothing new.’’ Wes nodded and stood again, you better call him one day and get things sorted out, you can’t keep running from him it’s not good for any of you.’’
Blaine smiled at him, ‘’yeah, I will one day, but he’s the one who kicked me out, and he’s the one who has decided to hate me for the rest of his life so I honestly think he should be the one to come crawling.’’
Wes shrugged ‘’but…’’
‘’Look Wes, I appreciate this. I like that you want to help me, but just not at 03:00 PM’’
‘’Oh sure,’’ he then yawned and mumbled a quick goodnight to Blaine before stumbling back to bed.
Blaine lay awake an hour after that, thinking about why he’d lied to Wes. They were best friends, and he knew that he could tell him everything but something about this Kurt Hummel thing was just so embarrassing, and he knew Wes found it silly, so he decided that he’d just hide it until it was over.

‘’We should go to a gay bar!’’
Blaine jumped, there’d been completely quiet in the salon, there were only fifteen minutes till they opened and Blaine was currently sweeping the floor. ‘’a what?’’ he said, looking at Sebastian who smiled widely
‘A gay bar, you now, where you meet other gay people and dance all night, maybe meet someone special,’’ Blaine wasn’t always sure what he thought of Sebastian. He was an okay guy, but sometimes he was just a player who only thought with his lower parts and didn’t care about others feelings, but apart from that, he was a good boss.
Santana raised a hand in protest ‘’personally I think it’s a horrible idea, gay bars are like high schools, a lot of people with a lot of hormones and a lot of drama, and I’m not sure that Blaine can handle that, besides he only have eyes for Mr. doll face from TV,’’
Blaine was about to protest and tell her not to call Kurt Hummel something like that, but then decided that this had to stop, there was no way he’d ever get Kurt, but he would end up lonely if he didn’t try to find someone else instead of making moony eyes at the TV for the rest of his miserable life. ‘’I’m in,’’ He then said, and smiled at Sebastian.
‘’Alright!’’ Sebastian said smiling even bigger, I’ll pick you up at nine tomorrow can’t wait to see your moves Anderson!’’

Friday night came around, and Blaine started to get nervous. It wasn’t that he’d never been at a gay bar before, but that he’d never been at a gay bar in New York, and he knew it wouldn’t be the same as Scandals back in Ohio. He was lost in thought when suddenly a fancy looking silver car pulled to a stop outside the small apartment. Blaine grabbed his coat and looked in the mirror, checking his hair, he was about to grab the door handle, but is stopped by a curious looking Wes.
‘’You going out?’’ he asked, looking at Blaine’s clothes.
‘’ Yes?’’ Blaine replied a little taken back by Wes’ demanding tone.
Wes grinned at him, glad that he wouldn’t be home glued to the TV screen, ‘’Can I come?’’
‘’Well, it a…’’ Blaine coughed ‘’a gay bar, actually’’
‘’Oh,’’ Wes said, ’’on your own? You’re only 21! You’re not going to sit in the bar waiting for someone, Blaine that’s just pathetic!’’
Blaine raised a hand to stop him, ‘’no Wes, no I’m not going alone, I’m going with my boss.’’
Wes’ eyes grew wide ‘’no way, Blaine that’s even worse! You can’t date your boss! It always ends badly and then you’ll get fired and then…’’
Blaine gently pushed him away from the door, ‘’relax Wes, we’re just going out dancing, we’re not dating, and we’re not going to, he’s a player remember, he’ll find someone else at that bar, who’s far more attractive than me, so calm down.’’
‘’Very well, but you better be home early, I don’t like waiting up young man.’’ Wes teased and let Blaine out the door.
Blaine grinned back at him, ‘’will do,’’ he said before running down the stairs.

Sebastian sat waiting in the front seat of the expensive looking Volvo, and shot a mean yet smiling look at Blaine, ‘’ready?’’
‘’Sure,’’ Blaine said, and they spend most of the short ride in silence, but that didn’t bother Blaine much, cause mostly Sebastian talked about his work, and if he didn’t, he talked about his one night stands which Blaine rather not hear about, so silence was just fine with him.
From the outside the bar looked very… gay. Pink sings announced the name of the place ‘’The Blue Lagoon’’ and a gruff looking doorman looked kind of out of place under all the neon light.
‘’Come on, unless you’re getting cold feet?’’ It wasn’t really a question, because Sebastian was pushing Blaine from behind, towards all the neon.
The doorman apparently knew Sebastian from earlier visits, but asked for Blaine’s ID, gave it a quick look. He then nodded, and they were let in. It was a hell of music with a quick beat, dancing men in cages only wearing speedos and braces, and drag’s in all sizes. Blaine had never felt more misplaced in his entire life, this just wasn’t his thing and he’d known that from the moment he’d agreed to the plan, but he’d felt so embarrassed about his obsession with Kurt, that he wanted to do something spontaneous, and maybe meet someone new,, but just not in a place like this.
‘’come on,’’ Sebastian yelled over the music ‘’I’ll get you a drink and then we can get dancing.’’ He grinned down at Blaine who just nodded.
An excessive looking drink was put in his hand, and he had only taken one sip, when one of the drag’s started moving in his direction. Blaine gulped.
‘’Hello sweetie.’’ The man said and looked at Blaine with a gaze that he wasn’t sure that he liked. ‘’um, hello’’ he answered awkwardly. The guy had to be over thirty and in no way Blaine’s type, and he smelled weird, like his grandmother.
‘’You want to dance honey? You look a little pale, maybe some moving will paint those sweet little cheeks of yours?’’
‘’I’m sorry Cane,’’ sounded Sebastian’s voice behind them ’’but he’s already taken,’’ He then grabbed Blaine’s hand and pulled him out on the dance floor.
at first it was awkward, but then Blaine just let it all go, and enjoyed the opportunity to get to dance, something that he’d always loved to do, and forget about his pathetic love-life.

Sebastian had to lean on Blaine on their way out, it wasn’t really late yet, but Sebastian had gotten plenty to drink, and Blaine wanted to go home, so he made the decision for them. Blaine hadn’t drunk anything apart from that one sip, and was fully capable of driving home.
Out of the blue Sebastian’s hands grabbed Blaine’s shoulders and pushed him up against the car, in two seconds he looked into Blaine’s eyes, and then leaned ad kissed him hungrily. Sebastian Tasted like alcohol and he was pushing his hips against Blaine’s who quickly pushed him away, ‘’WhatAreYouDoing?!’’ He yelled, and felt the heat rise to his cheeks.’’
‘’I just want to be with you Blaine, we don’t need to talk about it tomorrow, or any other day either, you were just so hot tonight, I can’t help it!’’
Blaine shook his head manically, ‘’no Sebastian, you’re my Boss for Christ’s sake, and I don’t like you, not like that!’’
Sebastian yelled something incomprehensible, but then collapsed on the back seat of the car, and quickly fell asleep.
Blaine sighed deeply and punched his fist into the side of the car, damnit, this would be awkward on Monday when he met at work. Or maybe it wouldn’t be, he was drunk after all, maybe he wouldn’t remember…

…Oh he remembered, and it was plenty awkward.
First he wouldn’t even look or speak to Blaine, then he got mad at him for messing up the accounting, and then he just tried to apologize which he was just horrible at.
‘’Blaine listen, I’m sorry about what happened, I was really drunk and I couldn’t think it was wrong, I know, not that you’re not attractive, believe me, you are I mean… um, but anyway I know as your boss, that we can’t have anything at all, not that I don’t want to, but our work is more important so…’’ he trailed off, and looked away quickly, he surely wasn’t good at this, and Blaine felt almost sorry for him.
‘’Sebastian?’’
‘’yeah,’’ He replied
Blaine smiled ‘’apology accepted,’’ but then sighed, ‘’but if it happens again, I’ll have to quit’’
Sebastian nodded.

Things thereafter went back to normal, a lot of customers, a lot of cutting and styling, and a lot of awards watching and at-Kurt.Hummel-glaring, and Blaine felt sorry for himself. He had Wes and Mercedes of course, but he’d made a mistake by letting them meet, and now they were dating. Mercedes had wanted to meet Wes because of everything Blaine had said about his roommate, and Wes actually just wanted to tell her to back off his friend so that he could spend more time with Blaine, but then he saw her, and that kind of changes his intentions. So now Blaine could come home late from shift, and find them cuddling on the sofa or maybe they weren’t even home, but out for dinner instead. So just like that, his two best friends became more interested in each other than in him, and Blaine hated being their third wheel so he just stayed home whenever they went out. He mostly avoided Sebastian, and Brittany and Santana we’re too busy being each other’s girlfriends, so Blaine pretty much felt like he was on his way into a black hole of boredom and loneliness, until one day Lauren Zizes entered their salon.
