“Are you just going to stand here all afternoon?” Santana raised her eyebrow at the scowling Kurt. “Because you’re beginning to freak out everyone walking past.”

“Supercakes,” He snapped, crossing his arms. “They named it Supercakes.”

“Yeah…the tie-fighters flying around the edges are a little much,” She nodded and glared when he gave her a confused look.

“It’s just I named my bakery after my mother who inspired me to bake. They named theirs after a man who wears his underwear outside of his pants,” Kurt spun on his heel and stormed back into Elizabeth’s.

The show counter was absolutely spotless, the dark grey countertops gleaming in the bright lights and contrasting beautifully with the plum colored wall hangings. It had taken years of incredibly hard work but Kurt was proud of his accomplishments and loved seeing his bakery listed as one of the top ones in New York City.

            Then came Supercakes.

The other bakery opened across the street and two shops down from Elizabeth’s two days ago .

“Well I wont eat at any other bakery besides Elizabeth’s,” Santana huffed.

“That’s because I pay your salary and let you eat the deformed cupcakes,” He rolled his eyes and leaned against the counter. “I refuse to eat somewhere like that. They probably use box cakes.”

“They probably are a couple of middle aged virgins who just moved out of their parents basement.”

“They probably just buy store bought cupcakes and cakes.”

            “Oh gross,” Santana shuddered.

“Anyway, I can’t even imagine what losers bought it. They aren’t going to make it a month, not with us for competition,” With a laugh Kurt leaned against the counter and grinned at her.

            “It’s almost sad.”

At that moment Rachel hurried into the shop, all puffy red coat and bright smiles.

“Rach,” Kurt leaned over the counter waving her over. “You have to go into that new shop. You have to go and tell me how horrible it is.”

“Are you asking me to spy?” Her eyes lit up.

“I will give you two of whatever cupcake you want,” He promised and she jumped up and down, grinning.

            “White chocolate strawberry?”

“Yes, just go and tell us everything!” Kurt shooed her off and she rushed out the door.

“Keep it classy Hummel,” Santana took a red velvet cupcake off the display and swiped her finger through the frosting. “So…are you going to start on those orders soon?”

“Santana, there is spying happening. Priorities,” Kurt stared intently at the door Rachel has disappeared into.

She rolled her eyes as a few smiling women stepped into the shop and looked excitedly at all the cupcakes and treats lining the display. Kurt made sure their order was beautifully boxed and glanced up to see Rachel walk back in with a brightly colored box of her own.

“Thank you so much ladies!” He smiled at them as they walked back out to the heavy snow. As soon as they left he snapped his attention back to Rachel. “Okay, talk.”

“I have some cupcakes,” She held up a box with a superman logo on it. “Kurt…you’re not going to like it.”

            “They’re good?”

“That’s part of it,” She opened the box showing several brightly colored cupcakes. “I got three. There’s the margarita, it’s lime cake with tequila lime frosting, there’s the Mexican hot chocolate, it’s a dark chocolate cake with a cinnamon and cayenne frosting, and a PB&J, which is a grape cake with peanut butter frosting.”

            “That sounds disgusting.”

Santana frowned and grabbed the PB&J (which had a small fondant ring from Lord of the Rings on the top) and took a bite.

            “Damn it, that’s delicious.”

“So they’re creative and good?” Kurt scowled and took a bite of the spectacular margarita one. “Seriously?”

“They’re also like crazy hot,” Rachel said around a mouthful of chocolate. “Like there’s one who looks like an model. He’s tall, surfer blonde hair, has a killer body. The other guy is just beautiful. A little short, dark curly hair, big hazel eyes…”

            “Rachel!”

“Sorry…hot guys who bake,” She shook her head.

“I hate my life,” Kurt scowled. “You know…it doesn’t matter. We make classic desserts the right way. The silly fads fall aside but we are the best.”

“Elizabeth’s for the win!” Rachel grinned. “Your cupcakes are prettier anyway.”

“I don’t know,” Santana piped up. “I’m kind of digging the little Spiderman logo on the Mexican hot chocolate.”

“WE HAVE EDIBLE GLITTER!” Kurt exploded. “They can take the kids birthday parties. We have anniversaries, weddings, all the fancy parties. Remember that I catered for that famous actor’s engagement party remember?”

            “Cooper Anderson is hardly famous.”

“He has a reoccurring role on Law and Order,” Kurt argued back.

“Whatever. You should go over,” Rachel pointed out. “Be neighborly.”

“They are the competition and there is no such thing as friendly competition,” He scoffed.

“Be nice,” Rachel laughed. “Now, I have to go to rehearsal. Don’t worry Kurt, they have nothing on your cupcakes.”

She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and swept out of the store. Santana gathered up the trash and smashed it into the trash can.

“You sure you don’t want to just walk by?” Santana raised her eyebrow. “Just look in the window. I know you’re dying of curiosity.”

            “Oh I don’t know…”

“Do it. I can hold down the fort,” She pushed him forward lightly and with a sigh he pulled on his coat. “Try to take subtle pictures of the hot guys with your phone.”

            “You’re a lesbian.”

“Doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate it,” She shrugged.

With a sigh, Kurt stepped out into the brisk air and quickly crossed the street. He hesitated at the edge of the other bakery before walking across, glancing into the store window.

Supercakes was an explosion of colors. Music blared from the speakers and models of spaceships hung from the ceiling. He could see one of the employees dancing slightly to the music behind the counter. All Kurt could make out was a head of curly hair as the man was staring down at the counter.

As he tried to see more of the man his foot hit a layer of ice. With an undignified squeak his feet slipped out from under him and he fell flat on his back.

“Oh my God, are you okay?” A voice gasped from somewhere behind him and worried, hazel eyes swam into view.

“I’m fine,” Kurt shook his head and struggled to get into a seated position with the help of the stranger’s hands. “Seriously I’m good.”

“I don’t know man. One minute you were walking and the next you were flying through the air,” The man chuckled and helped Kurt to stand.

Blushing brightly Kurt tried to take a step forward and gasped as his ankle gave out, making him fall right into the stranger.

“Hey!” Kurt looked up to find himself completely breathless. “You must have twisted your ankle.”

The man holding him up was stunning. Dark curly hair fell into wide hazel eyes and a bright smile graced his face.

“…okay? Did you hit your head?” He cocked his head to the side.

            “What?”

“Sorry you zoned out there for a minute,” He laughed. “Here, let’s get some ice on your ankle.”

“No, no I’m okay!” Kurt tried to stand and winced.

“It’s best to get that iced as soon as possible. This is my bakery,” His face lit up a little. “Come on, I’ll get you some ice.”

Without leaving anymore time for argument the man helped Kurt limp in and set him up in a plush bright red chair. He hurried to the back and returned with a towel, a plastic bag of ice, and something wrapped in parchment paper.

“Here,” He crouched in front of him and held an ice pack to his ankle. “So, do you work at Elizabeth’s or are you just a fan of their desserts?”

“Huh?” Kurt blinked, trying not to blush at the sight of the extremely attractive man kneeling before him.

            “Your shirt.”

“Oh! I’m actually the owner,” He shrugged and the man grinned up at him.

“Shut up! Well it’s nice to meet you neighbor!” He pressed the ice pack firmer against his ankle. “So, were you spying on me earlier?”

“Of course not!” Kurt shook his head sharply.

“You don’t make a very good spy,” He teased.

“If the owner of this particular shop iced his sidewalk you wouldn’t have caught me,” Kurt smiled.

“Fair enough,” The man leaned back and held out a hand. “Blaine Anderson, owner of Supercakes. Please don’t sue me.”

“Kurt Hummel,” Kurt shook his hand. “And we’ll see.”

This was really good and I can't wait to see what happens next with Blaine and Kurt. It will be fun to see whose bakery does the best and if it causes problems between the two. I can't wait to read chapter 2.

I love this story. It is so charming. Would love to read more.

Sweet fanfic <3waiting for the updates :)
