Blaine sat in his hospital bed, turned sideways and staring at the snow drifting lazily outside of the window. For the first time in a long time he felt as though he could truly see. Colors seemed brighter, sounds seemed more beautiful, and he could feel everything more intensely.
“Blaine?”
“Shh,” He waved his hand slightly, wincing as it pulled the stitches on his side. “You’ll ruin it.”
“…ruin what?” Cooper frowned, walking into the room with the to-go boxes piled up in his hands.
“The quiet,” Blaine sighed, gasping slightly as he rolled on his back. “No whispering. No singing. No screaming. Just quiet.”
“Okay,” Cooper’s eyes were wide and a little fearful. “I brought you some food. You need to eat.”
“I’m really not hungry,” His eyes slid shut.
“It’s just some pasta,” Cooper sat down next to him and opened one of the boxes. “You had a pear yesterday Blaine. A pear.”
Tears instantly filled Blaine’s eyes and he let out a choked sob, curling in as much as his injured side would let him. Worried, Cooper placed a hand on his back and leaned in close.
“I’m sorry!” Blaine sobbed, wiping at his face. “I’m so sorry! It’s this medicine. Damn it!”
“It’s fine,” Cooper soothed softly, rubbing his back.
“I just…I want to be away from that thing so much,” Blaine’s breath hitched. “I’m so fucking scared he’s going to come back. I can’t sleep because I’m so scared.”
“He’s gone.”
“Do you know that?” Blaine snapped suddenly. “Because I have no clue! He could come back tomorrow, next week, next year, in ten years! I don’t want to get better just for him to…to do that again and kill me…Fuck maybe I should just beat him to it.”
“What?” Cooper’s hand tightened slightly on his shoulder.
“I can’t do it again Cooper. I can’t,” Blaine’s voice was almost a whisper. “I’m sorry…I’d rather die than do through that again. I’d rather do it myself.”
“Blaine look at me,” Cooper took his chin in a firm grip and turned it towards him. “Don’t you fucking talk like that. Jesus Christ!”
Blaine stared back at him with wide eyes and Cooper’s breathing sped up. He pulled his brother into a tight hug and held him as they both broke down and sobbed.
“Please don’t ever say things like that again,” Cooper held tightly onto the back to Blaine’s head, shaking slightly. “I don’t know what I would do if I lost you. You’re my brother Blaine and I love you more than anything.”
“I don’t want to be afraid anymore,” He whispered, trembling.
“You’re not the only one who’s afraid,” Cooper smiled and rubbed his back firmly. “I’m terrified. I was so scared I was going to lose you. Mom and dad are walking around like ghosts…sorry…and Kurt refuses to be too far away. We are all scared.”
Blaine sighed heavily and pulled his head back to look at his brother.
“I’ve been so selfish,” He whispered.
“Bro, you were attacked, possessed, and nearly killed. You deserve to think of yourself for a little bit,” Cooper ruffled his hair and sat back. “Kurt is on his way with biscotti. He told me that if you hadn’t eaten at least half of this by the time he got here he was going to force feed it to you.”
With a shaky smile, Blaine lifted the fork to his mouth and took a mouthful.
“Yummy right?” Cooper grinned.
“Stop watching me eat, it’s creepy,” Blaine mumbled with his mouth full.
He ate the pasta quickly before guzzling down the large vanilla milkshake that Cooper also brought in. His brother beamed and ate his own sandwich while they watched an old episode of What Not to Wear.
“Hey!” Kurt’s voice made them both glance towards the door.
“He ate the whole thing,” Cooper sang.
“Aw Blainey I’m so proud,” Kurt cooed making Blaine roll his eyes. “I brought your favorite biscotti from Lima Bean. Cooper…why don’t you go home and get some sleep.”
“I’m fine,” Cooper shrugged, watching the television.
“You need your sleep Cooper,” Kurt’s smile grew a little stiff. “Go home.”
“Oooooh,” Cooper finished his lunch and stood, waggling his eyebrows. “I see that I’m not wanted.”
“See ya Coop,” Blaine waved a little.
“Have fun,” Cooper ruffled his hair. “Don’t pull your stitches.”
“Go Cooper!”
“Love you Blainers,” Cooper laughed and walked out of the hospital room and shut the door behind him.
The moment the door shut Kurt leaned forward and captured Blaine’s lips in a long, lingering kiss. They parted for breath and pressed their foreheads together, just breathing each other in for a moment.
“How are you?” Kurt whispered.
“Better now,” Blaine laughed and gave him another kiss. “Cooper being here really helped.”
“Good!” Kurt stepped back and pulled several biscotti out of the bag. “What did you guys talk about?”
“It…” Blaine’s face flickered for a moment and he folded his hands together. “He put things into perspective.”
“Okay,” Kurt sat at the end of the bed, handing him a biscotti and taking a bite out of his own.
“Kurt…I have a serious question for you,” Blaine bit his lip for a moment.
The other boy nodded and put down his biscotti, leaning forward slightly and taking Blaine’s hands in his own.
“Where do you see…us…in the future…” His breathing shuddered slightly. “Unless you don’t see us together…then I’m sorry…fuck I’m making his weird aren’t I?”
“Blaine,” Kurt grinned and pressed a kiss to the back of his boyfriend’s hands. “I see us living in New York in a lovely little house that we decorated together. I see us being sleep deprived because we just got a new baby and we love her so much.”
“So we’re having a daughter?” Blaine grinned, fighting back tears a little.
“One that we love more than anything. We spoil her rotten and throw away all of the ugly animal sweaters Rachel sends us. We take her to dance recitals which unfortunately one of us has to leave in the middle because our new son is noisy and cries through the whole thing but it’s okay because my dad video tapes the whole thing.”
“You’ve thought through this,” Blaine laughed softly.
“Blaine, I’m planning on marrying you. I want us to pick out tuxedos together. I want us to go cake tasting and pick out the perfect mocha flavored cake. I want us to exchange rings and dance surrounded by all of our friends,” Kurt sniffed slightly, smiling at Blaine. “I love you so much. So when I think of my future I see our future because I don’t want a future without you.”
“Even with all this shit going on?”
“Nothing can make me stop loving you. These past few weeks have proved that you are an amazing, strong person,” Kurt gently cupped his cheek and stroked over his cheekbone.
“I don’t feel strong. I feel shaken and like I’m falling apart,” Blaine leaned into his boyfriend’s touch.
“Then I will catch you and put you back together!” Kurt grinned.
“What if it comes back?” His voice cracked and his eyes were wide. “What if it happens again?”
“We will destroy it together,” Kurt placed his other hand on his other cheek. “That fucker…sorry…thought he owned you. He was wrong.”
“Especially since someone else owns my heart,” Blaine grinned before giggling softly, leaning towards Kurt. “I’m sorry, that was so cheesy and stupid.”
“Psh, I don’t care,” Kurt laughed, combing Blaine’s hair back.
“Can you sit up here with me?” Blaine asked.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” Kurt frowned slightly but helped Blaine scoot over as much as possible before laying down next to him. “Are you okay?”
“Perfect.”
Both boys fell asleep curled up in each other’s arms. Even though the bed was small and uncomfortable it was still the best sleep they had gotten in a long time.
A loud crash startled Kurt awake a few hours later and he jumped. Thankfully, Blaine slept on due to the pain medication so Kurt untangled himself gently and glanced around the room.
The bag of biscotti was laying on the other side of the room in a crumbled mess.
Swallowing heavily, Kurt tightened his hold on Blaine just in time to feel him shiver slightly.
The sudden ringing of his cell phone made him scramble to grab it and whisper a hello before it woke Blaine.
“Hey!” Cooper’s voice sounded shaky on the other end. “Are you and Blaine okay?”
“What?” Kurt asked breathlessly.
“I just…I woke up and had a really bad feeling. Are you both okay?”
“We’re fine,” Kurt glanced over at the broke biscotti on the floor.
“Thank God,” Cooper laughed, relieved. “Maybe I just need more sleep than I thought. That’s what being sleep deprived will do to you.”
“Yeah…you probably just need more sleep,” Kurt mumbled.
Comments
I feel so bad for Blaine, he and Kurt are adorable though! I'm excited for more!
It is not over for them is it? :-(
I am glad he is better but that was freaking weird, the loud crash of the bag falling waking Kurt up and Cooper calling at the same time with a weird feeling :/
