“Who am I?” Kurt could barely stand the pain he felt in his chest. Blaine's face looked nothing but confused and there was no look of recognition in his eyes. Kurt was just about to say something again when the doctor walked through the door.

“Blaine, I'm glad to see that you're awake. How are you feeling? Is there any pain anywhere that's bothering you?” The doctor had started fiddling with different tubes and switches while he had been talking.

“Um… my head his hurting a bit.” On instinct, Blaine reached a hand up to massage the front of his head.

“Yes, right, your head. I'm going to ask you a few questions to make sure everything's okay. When you fell you hit your head pretty hard. So, do you know where you are?” The doctor looked at Blaine expectably.

“I'm guessing a hospital.” Blaine received a nod for his answer.

“Could you say your full name for me?” The doctor was looking down at a clipboard that he had brought in with him, most likely so he could confirm Blaine's answer.

“Blaine Devon Anderson.” Throughout their whole conversation Kurt had been sitting quietly watching the exchange. He knew he could make this whole process go by quicker if he just told the doctor that Blaine didn't know who he was. If he did that though he'd be confirming it, which would mean it was actually real.

“Do you remember how you got in the hospital?” Before Blaine answered that question he paused to think and when he answered the response he gave was not what either of the people in the room had expected.

“I got beat up.” At that statement, the doctor scrunched his face up in confusion.

“Can you tell me why you think that?” After speaking the doctor looked over at Kurt to see if he knew what Blaine was talking about, but he didn't seem to know either.

“Because I remember it. They cornered me and starting punching and kicking me. I can still hear what they were saying…” As Blaine had been talking, something had sparked in Kurt's mind. A memory of Blaine telling a story that sounded oddly like this one.

“Blaine can I ask you who this man is?” The doctor was pointing at Kurt, who was looking at the ground. He knew what the answer would be already.

“No, I've never seen him before.” Although the words had been said in a soft voice, Kurt felt like they were being yelled in his face.

“Can um… can I ask him a question?” When the doctor nodded, Kurt proceeded.

“How old do you think you are?” The doctor looked as if he thought the question was quite odd but he went along with it.

“I'm 14.” Blaine's answer was said without hesitation.

“That's what I thought.” Kurt looked as if he understood everything that was going on, but the doctor still looked a bit confused.

“Kurt, could you explain what's going on?” That was the last thing that he wanted to do.

“When he was in middle school he went to a Sadie Hawkins dance with a boy and when it was over they got beat up by some jocks. That's the last thing he remembers.” As Kurt spoke the doctor noticed that it looked like each word was tearing him apart as he said it.

“I see. In that case, Blaine, I'd like to do some tests on you. But before that, is there anyone we should call?” There was concern etched on his face and it had softened considerably, as if he was talking to a young child.

“My parents, I just want my parents.”

After Blaine had left for college him and Kurt though they'd never be seeing the Andersons again. Blaine had never had a proper relationship with his parents, so when everything went down it didn't come as a complete shock to Kurt.

“Blaine, can you come here for a minute. I need to talk to you.” The firm voice of Blaine's father spread throughout the house. Blaine was in his room getting dressed. Him and Kurt where going on an “I can't believe you got into NYADA and in two weeks we're going to be living together” celebration date.

“I'll be down in a minute dad. I just need to finish getting ready.” Kurt was supposed to be coming to get him at 1:00pm and it was already 12:47pm. Hopefully his dad didn't need to talk for too long.

“Now, Blaine. I need to be back at the office in 20 minutes.” Blaine checked the clock one more time before he went downstairs. He didn't know why he was worrying about the time so much. There was a day a few months ago when they had made plans to go out for dinner at 6:00pm. They nearly missed their reservations though, because Kurt had taken an extra 30 minutes to get ready.

Blaine headed for the stairs and when he reached the bottom he went to the living room, where he'd heard his father's voice come from earlier. He took a seat, in one of the many chairs in the room, across from his father, and waited for him to start talking.

“I assume you've had enough time to think over your options.” He was looking at Blaine with such an intense gaze that Blaine shifted uncomfortably.

“I told you I didn't need extra time. I've already made up my mind.” Blaine was trying with all his might to keep his annoyance from showing in his voice.

“I was hoping if I gave you some more time you'd change your mind and make the right choice.” There was no kindness in his voice when he said those words as one might expect. To some it might sound like a father trying to point his son in the right direction, but Blaine knew what he was really doing.

“I am making the right choice, for me. You just want me to make the right choice for you, the one that will look best for you. ‘Donald Anderson, successful business man, and son Blaine Anderson, who recently graduated from Harvard with a law degree.' That's what you want dad.” He knew he shouldn't have said that, especially in the tone he had, but he couldn't help it. Sometimes he felt like he'd have to yell in his father's ear if he wanted him to actually hear what he was saying.

“Don't use that tone with me young man. I will not have you being disrespectful to me, when I have done nothing wrong.” Sometimes Blaine wasn't sure if his dad knew he was talking to his son and not another person he was trying to make a deal with. The way he talked was always so formal and he rarely showed any kind of warmth.

“Nothing wrong! You have got to me kidding me! Oh my god! Do you not-ugh, never mind. I'm going back to my room to finish getting ready. I'll see you at dinner.” Did his dad really just say that? That he'd done nothing wrong? Because that's absolute bullshit.

“I'm not done this conversation yet, sit back down.” His father made to grab his arm and his firm grip prevented him from moving any farther out of the room.

“I don't know what more you want to talk about. I've said everything I want to say.” Blaine tried again to pull his arm away but his father still wouldn't let go.

“I really thought you would come to your senses Blaine. I'm not giving you the option any more Blaine, you are going to study law at Harvard. I tried being nice about his but you've left me with no other choice. I'll be calling that stupid school in New York to tell them that you will be dropping out.” His father let go of his arm and headed for the front door to leave for work.

“I won't let you do that.” His voice was steadier than he thought it would be. He never usually stood up to his father.

“Fell free to try and stop me.” When his father spoke those words he didn't even turn around. He just continued to get ready to leave.

*crash*

His father's head whipped around at the noise. One of the lamps that had been sitting on a coffee table was now shattered on the floor on the opposite wall of the room. Blaine repeated his words, hoping to get his point across.

“I won't let you do that.” His father looked at him as he spoke, anger burning in both of their eyes.

“I will do whatever it is I please to do. Don't think that your little tantrum will change anything.” He started to turn around but then stopped. “And clean that up before your mom gets home. You'll have to explain to her how it broke of course. I would start thinking of a way to replace it now, maybe it will soften the blow. Your little boyfriend could help you find a new one, just make sure it isn't too faggy.” The corners of his father's lips turned upward into an almost-smile. More like a smirk actually.

“What the fuck did you just say?!” Blaine had tried to stay calm, but he knew his father was trying to make him mad. He wanted him to get upset so he could punish him even more than he already was.

“You heard me. I don't think I need to rep-“ He didn't get to finish his sentence because Blaine's hand had come up and smacked him across the face. It took him a moment to realise what had happened but when he did his face got red with anger and he looked like he was about to explode.

“Get out of my house.” This statement was said calmly at first but when Blaine didn't show any sign that he was going to move, his father repeated himself.

“GET OUT OF MY HOUSE! I don't want to see you here again. I want you gone by the time I get back from work.” With that he stormed out the door.

***

For once Kurt was actually on time. Blaine was going to be so proud of him. He was on his way up to the front door of the Andersons house when he heard what sounded like an argument coming from inside. He knew he should probably knock or maybe just go back to the car and wait. He could send Blaine a text telling him he was outside. Instead, against his better judgement, he stepped closer to the door and tried to hear what was going on inside. He caught snippets of what was being said, but he couldn't quite hear the whole conversation. The one thing he did hear loud and clear was ‘Get out of my house.' Kurt thought that the whole neighborhood had probably heard that actually.

Before Kurt knew what was happening, the front door is swung open and standing in front of him is Mr.Anderson. He doesn't offer him a hello or even a nod, he just shoves past him and gets in his car and drives away. He didn't even bother closing the door on his way out, so Kurt walks into the house and shuts it behind himself. As he starts to take his shoes off, Blaine comes into view at the end of the hall. Once he sees Kurt, he immediately starts walking towards him. When he reaches him, Blaine looks into his eyes as if he's looking for something or asking him a question without using words. ‘Did you hear all of that?' Kurt nods yes, although he almost wishes he hadn't.
