Week two of the summer Klaine challenge. The prompt this week was Ice Cream Parlor. I hope you enjoy;)
“Kurt! Kurt! Kurt! Wake up! We have to go!” How could someone have so much energy this early in the morning? That was the only thing Kurt was thinking about. Well that and coffee, if he was getting up now, he would need it. Meanwhile Blaine was literally using their bed as a trampoline. Sometimes Kurt thought that a toddler inhabit Blaine’s body.
“What are you doing? I need my beauty rest. This,” Kurt said, motioning to himself, “Doesn’t come naturally.” He was currently buried underneath the blankets on their bed. He usually complained about the number of sheets and quilts on their bed, but in the morning when he had no desire to get out of bed, he didn’t mind them at all.
“Kuuuuuurrrtt.” Now Blaine had started whining. This never ended well. Kurt started to push the blankets back and sat up.
“Okay, okay, I’m getting up. I just need a minute. Just don’t st-” It was too late though. Blaine had pounced on Kurt and was tickling him everywhere. Kurt squealed and squirmed but Blaine didn’t stop his attack.
“Don’t what? Stop tickling you. Okay, sounds good.” This had become a regular occurrence on the weekends. Kurt never wanted to get up, so Blaine would attempt different tactics to get him out of the bed every day. Usually it ended in a tickle fight, like today.
“Blaine please. I can’t breathe. Aha! No no no stop! Oh my god! No!” Despite his pleas, Blaine did not relent.
Eventually they were both so out of breath that they collapsed on the bed. Blaine inched his way over to Kurt and snuggled up next to him. He propped himself up on his elbow and looked over at Kurt.
“Happy Anniversary, love.” Blaine’s eyes shone with tenderness and his mouth crept into a smile.
“Happy Anniversary.” Kurt returned the loving gaze and leaned in for a kiss.

Once they’d eventually gotten out of bed and gotten dressed, Blaine had dragged Kurt out of the house. Despite Kurt’s questioning he’d only said that he had a surprise planned.
“It’s just up ahead.” They had been walking for twenty-five minutes by now. Kurt was hungry and tired and hoped that this little surprise involved coffee and food. “Okay we’re here.” They stood in front of a building, painted with pastels. There where tables outside and a few of them were already occupied, despite the early hour.
“An ice cream parlor? You took me to an ice cream parlor?” Kurt looked confused, that was for sure. But then recognition flickered across his face.
“Not just any ice cream parlor. Don’t you remember?” Blaine looked almost desperate. What if Kurt didn’t remember? He could be making a fool of himself right now.
“Wait yeah, yeah of course. This is where we came when you first got to New York. Right? It was late August and the heat was horrible. We’d been unpacking all day and we were so hot we thought we were going to combust into flames. We left the apartment to go get food and we came across this place. Under normal circumstances I probably wouldn’t have come in here, but because of the heat I couldn’t say no, not to mention the fact that the moment you saw it you starting jumping up and down like a little kid on Christmas morning.” Kurt hadn’t meant to say all that, but he’d just gotten drawn into the memory.
“Yeah that’s right. I thought it’d be the perfect place to go this morning.” Blaine grabbed Kurt’s hand and headed for the door.
“Why’s that? It’s not our usually Saturday morning coffee shop.” Kurt followed, but hesitantly.
“I was feeling nostalgic.” The bell on the door jingled as they walked in.
After they’d gotten their ice cream, they made their way to a table tucked away in a corner. It was right next to a window and the table was lit up by sunlight. A vase was placed in the center of the table, gorgeous red and yellow roses resting inside. They sat in silence for a while, soaking up the sunlight, then Blaine spoke.
“So, six years.”
“Yeah, six years.” Kurt looked up when he spoke and gazed into Blaine’s eyes.
“It’s a long time.” Kurt knew Blaine. He knew his quirks and his habits. He could tell when Blaine was nervous and right now, he was incredibly anxious.
“Not long enough.” Kurt placed his ice cream down on table and reached for Blaine’s hands.
“My thoughts exactly. Forever wouldn’t be long enough. I could spend every day of my life with you, loving you, and I’d still want-need more.” Blaine was a cheesy person, he couldn’t help it. Especially when he was around Kurt. He usually ended up babbling about how amazing he was because he could never find the right words to capture what he felt. Today he wouldn’t tell him though, he’d show him. He stood up from his chair, his ice cream forgotten on the table, and went to kneel in front of Kurt. “We’ve been through so much together. I can’t imagine having shared all these moments with anyone else. I want you to be in my life for as long as I’m alive. I’d don’t think I’d be able to bare seeing you with someone else. So, with that said, I’ll get to the point and stop being so cheesy.” He laughed a bit, but more from nerves than anything else.
Blaine reached into his pocket and pulled out a navy velvet box. He lifted the cover and turned the box so Kurt could see what was inside. A silver band was nestled inside and if you looked close enough, you could see puzzle pieces etched into the metal.
“I was wondering if you’d like to continue on this journey with me, for the rest of our lives. I love you so much, most of the time I can’t even put it into words. So, Kurt Hummel, will you marry me?” Kurt’s eyes were glistening with tears as he nodded his head. He opened his mouth to respond but a sob came out. “Is that a ‘Yes’?” Blaine hadn’t realized it but he’d been holding his breath.
“Yes, yes, yes. Of course yes.” Blaine took the ring out of the box and took Kurt’s left hand in his. He slid the ring onto his finger and thought he’d never seen anything so right in his life. “Blaine, it’s beautiful. I love you so much.” He leaned forward and kissed Blaine. When they pulled apart their faces both split into huge grins. “If you had told my thirteen year old self that I would be getting married at twenty-three to the love of my life, I probably would have thought you were crazy. I never thought I would be doing this. But when I’m with you Blaine, anything seems possible.”
“Now who’s the cheesy one?” They both laughed then, tears falling down both of their faces. If the last six years had been any clue, the rest of their lives would be perfect.
