Prologue - Where Dreams Go To Die

The lights were blinding as he stepped into the middle of the stage. He couldn't see any of the audience except the front row. As he took a seat at the cheap keyboard, he saw Drew sit down beside him with an acoustic guitar. Kurt was not happy when he was informed that Drew would be playing alongside him. However, Drew was ecstatic to go along with Kurt when he told him he was planning to change his song without the teachers knowledge. They looked at each other from where they sat on stage, Drew silently counting them in.

The guitar and keyboard blended perfectly together. Kurt took a deep breath and started singing, "your breath hangs in the air, it's freezing but the bus ain't here. You're wishing for someone to stop this." This song was a different style of what he usually chose to sing. "Back in class again, you feel just like an empty pen. Loss for words and void of purpose."

Drew was wearing a bored expression, but Kurt knew this song meant a lot more to Drew than he let on. "They cornered you, there's nowhere to get out. How? How?" Kurt's eyes welled with tears, but he blinked them back. "They'll try to convince you and tell you that they're right." Deep breath. "They'll break you and beat you and steal away your light." Deep breath. "They'll tell you that you're nothing and you'll never get it right." Deep breath. "But high school’s the place where dreams go to die." Kurt had modified the song so it went right to the bridge. "Well, we'll be more than they'll ever be. Just bitter from their own failed dreams. They're desperate, and do anything to bring you down."

There was a reason Kurt never told the teachers in charge that he was singing this song, they would so not approve. "Well, we'll do more than they ever did, talk down to some poor old kid. We are the ones, the ones who made it." Kurt knew that everyone knew he was singing about his high school, and how he was treated. "They'll try to convince you and tell you that they're right. They'll break you and beat you and steal away your life. And tell you that you're nothing and they'll never get it right."

"But high school's the place where dreams,"

"But high school's the place where dreams,"

"But high school's the place where dreams go to die."
