Author's Notes: Sorry for taking so long. I will try to hurry up.
Chapter Seven
Graham's head shot up suddenly and he realized that he must have passed out for a few seconds. But now he felt totally fine. It was like nothing ever happened, but he almost let out a scream when he lifted his head and was staring into a pair of eyes that were so close to him that he could make out all the different shades of brown inside of them.
“Damien, get away from him.”
“But who is he? What's he here for?” Damien asked but he did move away from Graham a bit.
Blaine rolled his eyes a little. “As if you don't know. He's here to help Kurt learn to control himself. Damien, that's Graham. Graham, that's Damien.” Blaine roughly pushed Damien further away from Graham, which earned him a growl from Damien. To Graham he said, “Don't worry about him. For Damien the same rules apply as they do for Kurt, so, if he attacks you, you scream.”
Graham swallowed and nodded. “Can I... can I go upstairs to my room for a bit?”
“Of course. Thank you, Graham.” Blaine said quickly. He felt bad for the kid. He didn't know why, but for some reason Graham reminded Blaine of himself. Blaine couldn't quite put his finger on it, but there was something about the boy... Maybe it was the way Graham treated himself, like he didn't deserve any better. Or maybe because Graham simply accepted the fact that he got stuck in a situation that he couldn't get out of and decided to make the best out of it. Whatever it was, it made Blaine feel great sympathy towards Graham. He wanted to give Graham something back for what he did to help them, but what in this world would ever make up to being kidnapped and fed on? The only thing he could do, was to make his time here as comfortable as possible.
As Graham left the room, Damien's eyes lingered on the boy's back. “I wouldn't say no to a bite out of him either, you know?”
Blaine resisted the urge to punch Damien. “I know you wouldn't. Which is why I'm gonna warn you. If you ever so much as touch him, I will kick you out of here immediately.”
“I take that as a challenge.”
“Of course you do, you idiot.” Blaine closed his eyes for a second. “It's really good to see you, Damien. You wouldn't believe how happy I am.”
“He's your mate, then, isn't he?” Damien asked and slowly stepped towards Blaine, motioning for Blaine to lift his shirt. “Let me see.” Blaine pulled his shirt up until the little mark on his chest was visible. Damien reached out to it and carefully traced the small spirals with the tip of his finger. “It's beautiful. I am happy for you, Blaine.” When Blaine pulled his shirt back down again, Damien asked, “Do I get to see him, too?”
“Yeah, of course. He should be—”
“I'm right here.” Kurt's voice came from the door to the living room and both Damien and Blaine turned their heads.
“Look at you”, Damien said with a wide smile. “Immortality suits you.”
“That was horribly clich, Damien”, Kurt replied and rolled his eyes. “Thank you, though.”
“Come here. Let me take a proper look.” Damien motioned for Kurt to step closer.
“Are you going to...?”
“Figure out what you're capable of? Oh yes, I am. That's why I'm here, right? And besides, I'm always curious to find out about people's talents.”
Kurt walked towards Blaine and Damien. Blaine held out a hand to him, which Kurt took and held on to like a life line. Blaine squeezed his hand as if to say that it was okay, and Kurt knew it was. It was just that he still didn't feel very much in control of his body and his actions. He could feel that his instincts were telling him not to just trust a strange vampire. No, in fact, his instinct was to crouch down, every muscle tense and ready to fight. But he fought it.
He knew Blaine had told him not to fight but rather accept it. He tried but he just wasn't there, yet. Accepting it, that this was him now, would mean accepting that he was a killer, a vampire. It was not like he didn't want to accept it, because of course he knew he was; it was more the fact that he couldn't believe that he could be dangerous, or even intimidating. He couldn't imagine himself being someone other people would be scared of. He had never seen himself as the villain.
But now he was. He was probably, to a human, every bit as intimidating as Blaine. He just had a hard time imagining it.
“Has Blaine ever told you how my power works?”
Kurt shook his head. “I thought you could simply feel it.”
“Not quite. If I concentrate, I can see some sort of aura around people. Humans, too. Humans have a simple gray aura that clings very close to their body, whereas a vampire's aura is colored and bigger. The brighter the color, the more powerful the ability and if the aura changes its shape, the vampire can shift.”
“So, have you looked at mine already?” Kurt asked.
“No, not yet. I'll do it as soon as you want me to.”
Kurt hesitated and glanced at Blaine but eventually he said: “Can you look at Blaine's aura first?”
Damien frowned. “Why would I do that? I know what his looks like. It's bright, very bright, almost white and it changes its shape constantly.”
Blaine cleared his throat. “He wants you to take a look at it, because something happened. I'm gonna explain the details later but it might show in my aura. Maybe you were right about the whole 'you're getting more powerful' thing.”
“What do you mean?” Damien asked. He gave Blaine a suspicious look but Blaine just dismissed it with a wave of his hand.
“Just do it.” He said with emphasis.
Damien glanced at Kurt but then he blinked quickly before settling his gaze on Blaine with a look of deep concentration on his face. “Whoa!” A gasp escaped his lips as he suddenly staggered backwards. “What happened to you? Your aura—” But Damien stopped himself.
“My aura—what?” Blaine asked harshly. “Finish that sentence Damien. Don't you dare lie to me. What did you want to say?”
“It has changed.”
“In what way?”
“It's bigger. It's more aggressive. It's pulsating with power.” Damien's voice was quieter now and Kurt glanced at Blaine from the side to see his reaction to all of this but Blaine's face remained expressionless. He was hiding his feelings, Kurt knew that. He always did, always wanted to be brave and seem like nothing could get to him. But for whatever reason, Kurt could feel that it did get to him. Blaine didn't want this. He never wanted to be dangerous.
“What happened, Blaine? Tell me, what caused your powers to change like that?” Damien demanded but Blaine shook his head and motioned to Kurt instead.
“I'll tell you later. For now, do what you're here for. See what you can find out about Kurt's abilities.”
For a few seconds, Damien didn't move, keeping his eyes on Blaine, but finally he turned to face Kurt instead. He blinked and his eyes bore into Kurt's. “Interesting.” He said with a slight smile. “Very interesting.”
“What?” Kurt asked, sounding slightly annoyed with how secretive Damien was being.
“Okay, are you ready for this?” When Kurt and Blaine nodded, he continued. “You do have a power. I'm not sure how strong or useful but it's there and you seem to have good control over it.”
“But how do I find out what it is?” Kurt asked, slightly confused but Blaine took his hand.
“I can help you with that. What about shifting, Damien?”
Damien cocked his head. “I'd say no. It could still come through. You could still learn how to do that.”
“How about we concentrate on your current ability for now. I, for one, would really like to know what you can do. Let's see, if it's any use against me.” Blaine said and bumped his elbow into Kurt's side with a grin.
Kurt scowled. “If it's anything useful, you better be prepared, Anderson, 'cause I won't go easy on you.”
“Oh, we're going by last names now, are we?”
Damien rolled his eyes at the teasing. “Come on, Blaine, lead the way.” Blaine's hand found Kurt's instantly and he pulled him along, towards the bookshelf, which he opened before letting Damien pass. Damien was gone with a rush of air as he zoomed down the stairs and through the tunnel, whereas Kurt and Blaine followed him at normal speed after Blaine closed the secret entrance again. They reached the training room where Damien had already lit a few of the torches. He left most torches unlit, they didn't need much light, and then joined Kurt and Blaine in the boxing ring.
“Okay,” Damien began. “How much have you taught our little fledgling already? Can he fight or was he right when he said that he would never want that?”
“When I said that,” Kurt said, pointing his finger at Damien, “I had no idea what this would be like, what it would feel like. So, you better watch what you say.”
“What if I don't?” Damien said sarcastically and Blaine rolled his eyes.
Kurt bared his teeth even though they were still blunt and human. “Then I'll kick your tiny ass.”
“I'd like to see you try.”
“Screw you!”
Damien gasped dramatically. “Rude.”
“Both of you, stop it. There's no need for that.” Blaine interrupted, holding up his hands. He felt eternity would be a very long time with these two never learning not to tease each other.
“Anyway,” Damien said, and took a few steps closer to Kurt. “Are you gonna show me what you can do or not?”
“Go ahead.” Kurt nodded. “I know you're just doing this to humiliate me, so you might as well get started.”
Damien seemed to hesitate for a second but then he sighed. “I don't want to humiliate you, Kurt. I'm here to help. And I apologize for being such a dick at times but that's what happens when you spend such a long time alone.”
Kurt didn't answer. Instead, Blaine stepped in between him and Damien and motioned for Damien to step a bit further backwards. “Alright, since we got this worked out, we can get started. We're doing this exactly like last time. Only this time Damien will attack you, not me.”
Kurt nodded. He wanted to show both of them that he was capable of fighting even though he barely had any experience.
When Blaine walked past Damien to get out of the way, Damien grabbed his arm and hissed in his ear, “When we're done here, you will explain to me what happened to you. I need to know what happened to your powers, is that clear?”
“Crystal.” Blaine said harshly and ripped his arms out of Damien's grip. Privately, he hoped Damien wouldn't freak out when he told him about his 'red eye'-problem, but for now, he wanted to concentrate on Kurt and his training. Damien glared at him a little bit, but then he looked back to Kurt.
“Okay, so, let's start with the basic stuff. Can you control your fangs already? I mean, controlling whether they grow or sheathing them when they're out?”
Kurt shook his head hesitantly. “I know how to sheathe them once they're out but I need to concentrate a lot for that and I have never willingly tried to make them grow.”
“Then let's begin with that. Try it.”
“You want me to...” Kurt looked confused. “Why would I want that?”
Blaine crossed his arms in front of his chest. “It's all about control, Kurt. That way, you learn what it feels like to do it willingly and it will make it easier to control yourself in serious situations. And it could come in handy in case you want to threaten someone.” He smirked.
“Okay...” Kurt still seemed unsure but he concentrated, closing his eyes for now. After a few seconds of nothing Blaine quickly jumped in.
“If it doesn't work right now, it's okay. We can still work on that later.”
“No, I want to do this.” Kurt said determined and just pressed his lips tighter together. He tried to remember what it felt like to have his fangs out but he knew that the only times his fangs had grown were when he had fed. However, he wanted to avoid thinking about blood at any costs. He didn't want to lose it in front of Damien. Screw it, he thought, this is about me learning to control it, so it's normal. I've seen Blaine do this before. If he can do this, then I can do it, too.
He tried to imagine Blaine, picturing him, when he had simply looked at Kurt and forced his eyes to become darker, baring his fangs at Kurt. He felt a rush go through his body at the thought and he suddenly had an image of himself in front of his eyes. It was him, as he had looked in the mirror for the first time after the turning, seeing himself as a vampire for the first time.
And then he felt it.
His canines grew in his mouth, becoming sharper and longer, until they touched his bottom lip. He opened his eyes to look at Blaine and saw that Blaine's eyes were dark and a small smile was on his lips.
“Not bad for a first try.” Damien said. “Wasn't so hard, was it?”
Kurt shook his head at that.
“Now back to normal.” Damien ordered and Kurt let out his breath. He tried to think of Blaine and only Blaine and he concentrated on that feeling of his fangs sheathing again that he already knew. It didn't take him very long until his canines were back to normal. Damien turned to Blaine. “I'm impressed with your fledgling, Blaine. You already taught him that, didn't you?”
“Yeah, a little. But we haven't really done anything else. A little bit of basic defense and offense but nothing complicated.” Blaine shrugged.
Damien turned back to Kurt. “Then let's see that. Don't be alarmed, Kurt. I'm going to attack you now.” And with that, Damien lunged forward with incredible speed and even though Kurt was prepared for it, he flew backwards when Damien crashed into him. He landed on the hard ground but got up just as fast, ready in case Damien would come at him again.
“Next time,” Blaine said from where he was standing, “Simply get out of his way. You know, he's much stronger than you are, so just take a step to the side and attack him from behind.”
“You couldn't have told me that before, could you?” Kurt said throwing his arms up.
“Where would be the teaching in that? Learning by doing and all that shit.” Blaine grinned at Kurt who groaned and faced Damien again.
“Again. Please.”
“As you wish.” Damien said and ran towards Kurt again, who took a quick step to the right but then he jumped left in the last moment, effectively surprising Damien, who expected Kurt to stay right. Kurt tried to remember what Blaine had told him last time. The stomach or the spine, anything else wouldn't be much of an advantage. He used Damien's moment of surprise to quickly push Damien from the back. Damien stumbled forward and Kurt was standing at his side instantly, turning on the spot and kicking his foot hard into Damien's stomach, who actually doubled over and Kurt rammed his elbow onto his spine.
Damien growled loudly as he almost fell down from the blow but recovered quickly. Only seconds later he had Kurt on the ground, one hand around his throat. “What,” he said a little out of breath, “was that?”
“That,” Blaine said as he came closer and crouched down next to the two men on the floor, “was what I taught him so far. And you have no idea how proud I am of him. Now would you kindly let him go?”
Damien let go of Kurt and let him get up. “Did I do good then?” Kurt asked, sounding unsure.
“Um, yeah!” Damien exclaimed. “Are you aware of what you just did? I mean, I might have underestimated you a bit but still. I am about 300 years old, Kurt, and you are a newborn and you almost got me on the ground.”
“I guess, yeah, but I got Blaine on the ground, too.”
Damien frowned at Blaine. “Did you let him win?”
“Well, not exactly. Of course, I didn't use any of my abilities and I guess I wasn't really trying to hurt him but apart from that, yeah, he got me on the ground. He just wasn't strong enough to hold me down.”
“Kurt, you are a natural.”
“A natural... fighter?” Kurt asked.
“Hell, yes.” Damien nodded. “I can't to see you in real action. And just wait until you figure out your ability. If it helps you fight in any way, then you and Blaine are invincible.”
Blaine flinched slightly when Damien said that, thinking back to what had happened to him when he had killed that other vampire. Did he even want to be invincible? Uh no, probably not. Living for all eternity was enough, he didn't need complete invincibility.
Blaine tried not to show his conflict to Damien while they continued to train Kurt. Kurt was good, really good. But he still had a lot to learn. Blaine however couldn't help to feel incredibly proud. He had always known that Kurt could stick up for himself. He didn't need protection. At least not anymore.
They continued for about half an hour until Damien told Kurt that he was done for the day. Blaine was about to take Kurt's hand to lead him upstairs, when Damien stopped him. “Seeing as we're down here already, why don't you and me try this once? Just like old times. I want to see if I can still beat you.”
“Really?” Blaine bit his lip. “I don't know, Damien.”
“Come on, are you scared of losing?” Damien teased.
Kurt scoffed at that. “I don't think you can take him, Damien.”
“And what makes you so sure that I can't?”
Blaine rolled his eyes. “Okay, okay. One round. And for the record, I don't care whether I win or lose. You're older than me and that technically means that you have an advantage.”
“I think we both saw that age doesn't make that much of a difference when one knows how to fight, right Kurt?” Damien tilted his head and smirked at Blaine.
“Anyway,” Blaine sighed, “am I allowed to use my telekinesis or not?”
Damien seemed to think about that for a second. “No, that wouldn't be fair.”
“Okay, then let's go.”
Kurt quickly jumped out of the way when both vampires growled and attacked. Blaine seemed so much faster than Damien but Damien really was stronger. Whenever Blaine used his speed to dodge Damien's blows, he tried to attack Damien from behind but he never succeeded. When he finally managed to hit him in the back, he pulled Damien's leg away with one foot in the same moment, so that he fell down on all fours. Just as he was about to get up, Blaine did the same as Kurt by simply ramming his elbow into Damien's spine, putting all his strength into it.
A loud crack was audible and Kurt almost let out a scream. The sound of breaking bones in Kurt's ears made him want to throw up.
“Fuck!” Damien exclaimed. “Oh god, fuck.”
Blaine cursed under his breath and helped Damien as lay down on the ground on his stomach. Damien was gritting his teeth as he hissed from time to time as Blaine carefully pulled up Damien's shirt to reveal his back. “I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hit you so hard.”
“It's fine. Just tell me we won't have to break it again so it heals the right way.”
Kurt suddenly was at Blaine's side. “What happened? Is he okay?”
“I broke his spinal cord in two places at least. He'll be fine.”
“Fine?” Kurt exclaimed. “He'll be fine? How could you not be more careful?”
“Kurt.” Damien said from where he was lying on the ground. “It's okay. No need to yell. This happens. It could have been Blaine's spine just as easily. It's nothing bad.”
“Really, Kurt. This happens when we fight and it could have been worse. He'll heal and in an hour he'll be perfectly fine. It just hurts, that's all.” Blaine said calmly.
“I still don't see how you can be okay with this.”
Damien groaned when Blaine gently pressed his hand on Damien's back to ensure that the bone healed in the right way. “Kurt, you have to see this as a sport. We fight because we want to. We fight because we like the adrenalin rush and because we want to let our anger out. Someone's bound to get hurt when we do this and we both knew that someone probably would get hurt. I signed up for this when I asked Blaine to fight, so don't blame him.”
“Sorry, Damien. I really am sorry.”
“Don't be. It just showed me that I can still lose. Even though you're the only one I have ever lost against.” Damien mumbled. “How does it look?”
Blaine carefully ran his fingers along Damien's spine. “Well, it bruised but apart from that, I think the bone will heal. We don't have to break it again.”
“Thank god.”
“Call me Blaine.”
“Jackass.” Damien replied.
As soon as Damien could walk upright again, they made their way back upstairs. They found Graham in the living room reading a book, who jumped at their sudden appearance but calmed down when he saw who it was. He glanced nervously at Damien though, not entirely sure what to think about him just yet.
Graham grabbed his book and told them that he'll return to his room, if that was okay, after grabbing something to eat from the kitchen. Blaine told him that he could take whatever he could find and that he should just tell him if Blaine should run to the store to buy some more food.
Graham left and for the first time since his turning, Kurt actually felt a little exhausted.
“You're just not used to the training. As soon as your body gets used to the speed and the power and everything new, you won't need to sleep that much anymore.” Blaine told him. “Most of the time, I sleep because I want to. Because I like to dream. Damien, on the other hand, doesn't sleep unless he has to, which means pretty much every ten days.”
Damien grinned at Kurt, when Kurt glanced at him, before going back to inspecting the paintings on the opposite wall of the living room.
“Do you want to go upstairs?” Blaine asked.
“Yeah, let's go.”
“Blaine?” Damien called out as they were about to leave the room.
“I know, Damien, I have not forgotten about it.” Blaine said through clenched teeth. “Give us an hour.”
“Fine.”
Kurt pulled Blaine out of the room and upstairs to their room, trying to ignore Graham's scent that was hanging in the air literally everywhere. He was trying to tell himself that he wasn't hungry, that he didn't need it, but he could feel how much he wanted it. It took all his concentration to walk past Graham's room towards theirs.
“What now?” He let himself fall on the bed and could feel Blaine sit down next to him.
“Well, what were you thinking about?” Kurt could almost hear the smirk in Blaine's voice. “What,” he said as he slowly moved to sit on Kurt's waist, “do you want to do? Or maybe, what do you want me to do to you?”
Kurt's breath hitched. “I—” But he couldn't finish his sentence as he looked into Blaine's eyes right above him that had slowly started to change color. A smile showed on Blaine's lips.
“I love it when you get turned on.” Blaine breathed.
“What is that supposed to mean?”
Blaine closed his eyes for a second and Kurt watched them, marveling at the sight of those ridiculously long lashes. “Your eyes change color, too, Kurt. That's something neither of us can control. And...” He paused as he traced Kurt's lips with his index finger. “I love it, when your eyes become darker.”
Kurt wasn't prepared for Blaine to just lean down and capture his lips with his own but he melted into the kiss and lifted his hand to grip Blaine's curls in the back of his neck, his other hand resting on Blaine's back. Suddenly Blaine pulled away.
“You still haven't answered my question.”
“You're asking me what I want to do right now? Seriously? I thought it was obvious enough.” Kurt half whispered, not letting go of Blaine's hair.
“It would be more obvious, if you were wearing less layers.”
“Then why don't you do the honor?” Kurt asked as he started to unbutton his cardigan. Extremely slowly, though. Blaine's eyes followed the motion of his hands but Kurt could see the impatience eating him up inside. It took about seven seconds until Blaine's hands pushed Kurt's aside and he had the cardigan off of Kurt in less than a second. His hands were pulling Kurt's shirt up quickly and Kurt let it happen, already planning on ripping Blaine's shirt off just as fast.
When Blaine threw Kurt's shirt on the floor, he stopped for a moment, tracing the form of the triskelion on Kurt's chest. Kurt loved the feeling of Blaine's hand on his chest. He felt so warm. But when Blaine made no move to continue any time soon, Kurt huffed.
“Come on, not fair.” He motioned at Blaine's shirt. “Let me see yours.”
“Alright, alright.” Blaine straightened up a bit and pulled his shirt off, grabbing it in his neck and pulling it over the back of his head. Looking at Blaine's bare chest, and thinking about it now, Kurt realized that he had never really noticed how muscled Blaine was. Yes, of course, Blaine was strong but he didn't look like it. Kurt assumed it had to be the way Blaine dressed that covered up his body shape.
However, now he was looking at him and, oh god, he couldn't believe how clearly Blaine's muscles were visible underneath his olive skin. It made Kurt want to run his hands all over Blaine's body but he didn't. He was too distracted by Blaine's fingers caressing the mark on his own chest. He felt it tingle and it sent shivers down his entire body. Even that felt different now with his body responding differently to every little thing since he had been turned.
“Kurt?”
“Yes?”
“Do you regret turning?” Blaine's question was quiet but Kurt could hear it clear as day.
“I don't, Blaine.” He answered. “I don't think I ever could. I know this is all very different and hard to get used to, but I thought this through for a whole year and it's okay. I'm still getting used to the idea that I could actually hurt people but I guess that's just normal for me now, huh?”
Blaine nodded, letting himself fall on the bed next to Kurt, intertwining their hands in between them. “I'm sorry I asked. I just—I constantly feel like I've taken so much from you by doing this.”
“You didn't take anything from me.”
“What about your family?”
“We're not talking about this now.” Kurt said quickly and pushed himself up and he left the room in a flash, taking his shirt and pulling it on again on the way out. Blaine let out a desperate sigh. He knew he shouldn't have started that conversation but he had simply wanted to make sure that Kurt wasn't feeling like this was a mistake. Blaine wanted to give Kurt something back instead of always taking everything from him. He couldn't wait until they could go to New York and stay with Jeff and Nick again, so Kurt wouldn't feel like he was entirely alone now. Maybe Blaine would even consider applying for university or college to at least give Kurt the experience to share with their friends. Otherwise Kurt would have to wait years and years to go to a university and then Jeff and Nick wouldn't be there with him anymore.
A part of Blaine wanted to find Kurt to make sure that he was okay, but the other part told him that he should give Kurt some space. In Kurt's place in the house, Blaine's constant presence would probably make him feel claustrophobic.
Blaine checked the clock on the nightstand. He quickly calculated in his head how long ago Kurt had fed the last time, figuring that he could bear a few more hours. Maybe he should even start training Kurt to go hungry for a couple hours a day or he would never start learning restraint.
With a sigh he got up from the bed, grabbing his shirt from the floor next to the bed before pulling it on again and closing his eyes as he sniffed the air, trying to figure out where Damien had gone to. Following his scent—and ignoring Kurt's as he did—Blaine left the mansion and walked down the slight hill behind the house that lead into the woods. Damien was sitting on the ground, his back leaning against a tree, picking apart a small white flower with his fingers.
“What are you doing out here?” Blaine asked as he slowly lowered himself to sit next to Damien.
“Thinking, mostly. I was also trying to ignore the fact that you and Kurt ran off to have sex but seeing as you're here now and he's not, I guess that didn't work out as you had it planned.” Damien smirked a little when Blaine rolled his eyes.
“I wasn't actively trying to have sex with him, just for your information. And we didn't get to that point because I ruined it before we even got close.”
“And now you're here to whine to me about it?”
“No!” Blaine shook his head violently. “Of course not.” He paused as he sucked in a breath. “I need to talk to you, though.”
“It's about what you said on the phone, right? You asked me whether I had been to Europe. Does that have anything to do with your aura changing so drastically?” Damien now turned to look at him.
Blaine nodded. “I think it does. I don't know how to explain it but... Well, a vampire broke into the mansion, attacked us and when I pinned him and asked him what he wanted, he told me that he wanted to see me dead.”
Damien's eyebrows shot up. “Why? How did he know you?”
“I don't really know. He said he came from Europe and that he had his coven over there. He had an ability. He could see the future and the past of a person, if he had—”
“—the blood of that person.” Damien finished. “I know him. Or I guess I knew him. You killed him, didn't you?”
“Yes. How do you know him?”
“Well, I have been to Europe. I know his coven. It is led by a vampire who calls himself 'Starchild'. He's like, seventy years old, eighty at most, has no abilities so far and he's quite ambitious. That's probably why he started a coven.” Damien looked down at his hands. “He is a friend of mine.”
“A friend?”
“Don't sound so surprised. I do have friends.”
“Yeah, anyways. To get to the point: they are scared of me.” Blaine said. “They are scared that I could at some point overthrow them, just because I have an ability and my shifting and...” He didn't finish the sentence. He somehow couldn't stand to say it out loud. Eventually he cleared his throat and tried again. “You were right, Damien. When you told me at graduation that I was getting stronger, you were right. You even said that I would be able to control myself with red eyes and it felt so weird, seeing myself like that and remembering—”
“Wait.” Damien interrupted Blaine's rambling. “Are you telling me that you actually stayed in control when you went red eyes?”
“Yes.” Blaine said quietly. “When that vampire refused to tell me more, I freaked and went red eyes, without even noticing it at first. I killed him in a rage and then Kurt pointed out that my eyes were red. I looked into a mirror and they were, Damien. I saw myself with red eyes and I felt—I felt so much stronger and I did something to that vampire, hurt him, but I don't even know how.”
Damien was quiet for what were probably a couple minutes, just breathing and glancing at Blaine a couple of times, taking in Blaine's aura. “Can you do it whenever you want to? Can you control it?”
“No.” Blaine shook his head. “At least I don't think so. I haven't tried because honestly, I'm scared, Damien. I told you that I don't want this. I don't want to change or become stronger. What if it changes me?”
“What? Do you think you'll become a ruthless killer just because you're stronger than before? Do you think you would drive Kurt away from you? Because I can't imagine you doing that, no matter what happens.” Blaine wanted to say something but Damien held up a hand to stop him. “I know you better than you know yourself, Blaine. I know you're better than this, stronger than this, and you could never change in that way. If I thought that you could become dangerous, then I would have never helped you train. I would have gotten rid of you right when I had the chance.”
Blaine bit his lip. “So, what? Do you think I should embrace it? Do you think I should train it?”
“If you ask me, that's the smartest thing to do, because if people want you dead already, then I'd try to do whatever would better my chances at winning against them.” Damien got up. “And I suppose you would do anything to keep Kurt safe.”
Blaine looked up at Damien. He wasn't so sure that this was the best thing to do. He felt like his body was a time bomb that could blow up any second and he wasn't sure whether it was smart to train his body without knowing the consequences.
“I know this is not what you want.” Damien said. “You don't want to become more dangerous and I understand why. I really do. You don't trust yourself. But you know what? I trust you and I need you to trust me. Please, just try to get this new-found ability under control. If it doesn't work out, I'll gladly give it up because honestly it scares me, too.”
“Not what I wanted to hear.” Blaine mumbled.
“We'll train you alongside Kurt. That way he doesn't feel like he's put on the spot.” Damien turned and looked at the house. “Where is he by the way?”
“I'd say in one of the studies. Probably the music room. I pissed him off. I doubt he wants to see me right now.”
“When has he last fed?”
Blaine sighed and got up, too. “He's probably hungry already but I thought I'd start getting him used to it.”
“Hmm.” Damien hummed. “Does he regret turning, yet?”
“I asked him the same thing but he denies it. I think, he does regret it a little bit, though, and that's normal, I guess. I don't blame him.” Blaine shrugged. “Who wouldn't regret it? Being thrown into this kind of life is terrifying.”
“He'll be fine, Blaine.”
“I hope so.”
