Chapter Five
Blaine didn't know why he had run away. Maybe he was scared that he would lose it and hurt Kurt, but then again, he didn't feel out of control. He felt actually more relaxed than anything. But something in Kurt's eyes - fear maybe, or uncertainty - had made Blaine run. He couldn't stand thinking that he was changing like that. He didn't want to change fearing that Kurt wouldn't want to be around him anymore if he really was dangerous. But he wasn't, was he?
Yes, maybe he felt different, but he didn't even dare to look into the mirror that was right in front of him. He had fled to the bathroom, washing off the blood from his hands but never looking up at his reflection. He didn't want Kurt to be right about his eyes having changed color.
Kurt, who was currently outside the bathroom, constantly knocking and pleading with Blaine to let him in, but Blaine barely heard him. His thoughts were far away. Finally he slowly lifted his head and looked right at his reflection in the mirror. Deep red eyes stared back at him. It was unnerving for Blaine to see himself like that. Of course he had seen Damien like that before and he had seen Kurt with red eyes just a hour ago but he had never seen himself like that. The most unusual thing was that he was not out of control. He was aware of himself and he remembered everything. So why, for fuck's sake, was this happening to him now?
"Blaine? Blaine, please, just open the door. It's gonna be okay. It's probably nothing." Kurt paused, waiting for Blaine to answer. "If you don't open this door, I'm going to break it down. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be hard for me to break down doors, so I promise you I will!" Another pause. "Just open up, Blaine, please."
Blaine didn't look away from his reflection but somewhere in the back of his mind he decided to let Kurt in. With a quiet 'click,' the door unlocked and slowly opened to reveal Kurt observing Blaine with a worried look upon his face.
"Look at me, Blaine. Show me." Kurt approached Blaine slowly and when Blaine turned his head away and closed his eyes, he gently took Blaine's chin and turned him to look at him. "Open your eyes, Blaine, please." Blaine hesitated, but eventually he opened them and looked at Kurt. Kurt tried not to show his discomfort that was caused by the bright red color while he lifted a hand to touch Blaine's temple. "It's okay, Blaine."
"No, it's not. It can't be... This is not normal. I'm even more of a freak now than I was before." Blaine clenched his teeth and forced his fangs to stop growing. Come on, you have better control over yourself than this.
"You told me I'm not a monster, so you're not, either."
"Not a monster but a freak!" Blaine exclaimed.
Kurt took Blaine's face into both of his hands, scared that Blaine might lose it and attack, and he quickly pressed a kiss to Blaine's lips, where he felt Blaine's fangs beginning to sharpen. He let his own lips linger there for a few seconds. When he pulled away, he let go of Blaine and quickly took a step back. Blaine was breathing heavily, his eyes fixed on Kurt and Kurt almost sighed in relief when he could see hazel and green mixing with the red until it was gone.
Kurt smiled and tilted his head towards the mirror. Blaine turned to look at himself and let out a deep breath when he saw his own hazel eyes looking back at him.
“So, what does this mean?” Kurt asked slowly. “Can you just... go red eyes whenever you want to now?”
“I'd rather not know.” Blaine breathed out and suddenly he was in Kurt's arms holding him tightly. Kurt let out a growl at Blaine's sudden movement, but he forced it back when he noticed that there was nothing threatening him. Blaine rubbed his back soothingly before letting go.
“I'm sorry; I didn't mean to surprise you like that. Everything's okay.”
Kurt nodded. “What now?”
“We... I gotta get rid of the body, I guess.” Blaine had to close his eyes for a second. Not because of the body but because of the thought that was nagging in the back of his head, constantly reminding him of the only thing he'd been scared of ever since Damien had told him he was different. He didn't want to change. He didn't want to become a threat. And he certainly didn't want to lose Kurt, just because fate-- hell, he didn't even believe in fate-- decided to screw things up right when he thought everything would finally be okay.
It took another hour probably until Blaine had completely calmed down. He convinced Kurt to come to bed with him but otherwise he barely talked. The sun was rising when they lay down next to each other. Kurt couldn't help but find it ironic, two vampires sleeping during the day. At first he didn't dare to say anything to Blaine but he needed to.
"Blaine?"
"Hmm?"
Kurt hesitated. "That vampire... Why exactly was he here? I mean, I know that he was out to kill you, but if he told the truth about being able to see the future, and I think he did, then he would have known that he would die, if he came here."
For a few moments Blaine didn't answer. "I thought about that but we don't know how his ability worked. Maybe he only saw parts of one's future or maybe he only looked at my future and him dying was his future and not mine."
"But he gave up so easily. Even I know that he could have fought better than that. So what if he wanted to die?" Kurt asked quietly.
"I doubt it. Vampires have a survival instinct, which makes it really hard for us to commit suicide. He didn't know this would happen." Blaine turned around on the bed and looked at Kurt, noticing the small signs showing Kurt's lack of concentration. The drifting of his eyes, a twitch of his lips or nostrils as he picked up a scent. Kurt needed to feed more. His eyes were still way darker than normal and Blaine hoped the black would soon fade.
"But we're not sure that he didn't know. Maybe whoever those other vampires he talked about are--were threatening him somehow."
Blaine sighed quietly. "Maybe. But I guess we won't find out anytime soon. I killed him way too soon. If those vampires really are coming for me, we might find out what his motives were."
Blaine closed his eyes and Kurt moved closer to him. He didn't feel like he could fall asleep now. In fact, he was not tired at all but he figured he should try to sleep anyway, even if it was just to get his mind clear of those thoughts. As he wrapped his arms around Blaine's torso and listened to the quiet sound of Blaine's breaths, he thought about what life was going to be like now.
He couldn't be happier, could he? He was with Blaine and he would be with him for all eternity. No one would get between them, not even those vampires. Together they were strong. Stronger than anyone else.
Kurt had to admit that this had never been the future he had imagined as a child. He had always wanted to become famous and to live in New York and find someone to spend his life with. He wanted a career and he wanted friends to be at his side. Friends like he never had at McKinley. Looking at his life now, it wasn't that far from that dream. He had Blaine and he had Jeff and Nick. He would move to New York and he might have a career sooner or later. The only difference was that he fell in love with a gorgeous vampire and now he was one himself. He was hungry for people's blood and he desperately hoped he would be able to control that as soon as possible. He didn't want to hurt anybody.
He was just hungry.
At some point Kurt got lost in his thoughts and he didn't realize that he wasn't listening to the calming rhythm of Blaine's breathing anymore. Not soon after, he fell asleep.

Blaine woke up before Kurt did. It was late afternoon probably, the sun was about to set again, making it easier for Blaine's eyes to adjust to the light. He looked down at Kurt, whose head was resting on his chest. He was still sound asleep but Blaine knew he wouldn't be for long. Not if he noticed the change in Blaine's breathing. Blaine almost sighed when he thought about how different Kurt was now. Even by looking at his body, Blaine could tell the difference. Kurt wasn't muscular, no, but he was... his body looked strong and incredibly agile. Kurt's skin wasn't as white as it used to be and the most noticeable change would be his eyes. They would probably never have the exact same color again. They would return to a light blue-green but not as light as they used to be.
Just in that moment Kurt's eyes opened. It almost happened too fast for Blaine to react but as soon as Kurt's eyes were open Blaine was prepared for what was about to happen and he didn't fight it.
A vicious growl came from Kurt as he turned around, faster than Kurt could even realize it himself, and he had a hand on Blaine's throat about a millisecond later. His eyes were dark; his fangs extended as he looked down at Blaine and snarled.
Blaine couldn't help but chuckle. “Good morning, sunshine. Calm down, Kurt, it's just me.”
It took Kurt a second but then he took his hand off of Blaine's throat and scurried backwards until he was as far away from Blaine as possible without falling off the bed. “I didn't... I didn't mean to do that.”
“I know, Kurt.” Blaine sat up and leaned against the headboard. “It's fine. How are you feeling?”
Kurt hesitated. “...Fine.”
“Are you sure?”
“I just feel so disconnected to my body. It does everything without me actually wanting to do it. I don't have control over my body anymore. I guess I gotta get used to this feeling, right?”
Blaine held out his hand to Kurt and Kurt took it. “You will. But you can't fight your instincts all the time. You have to become one with them. You are that person. You are the vampire. So, those are your instincts and you will have control over them.”
“I won't... unless you teach me.” Kurt said and jumped off the bed. However, he didn't anticipate how strong he was, so he flew a bit further than he had wanted to. “Whoa!” He exclaimed but he landed, steady on both feet and with the grace of a cat. He looked back at Blaine who just couldn't hold back his laughter. “Shut up, you!” Kurt glared at him before leaving the room at normal speed.
Later Blaine found Kurt in the kitchen making breakfast or maybe he was trying to. Blaine bit his lip as soon as he saw what was happening. Kurt's hands were shaking hard. He could barely hold the plates in his hands and his eyes were unfocused. In the blink of an eye Blaine was next to him and took the plate from his hand.
“Kurt, you can't do this. Stop!”
“I don't know what's wrong.” Kurt breathed. “I just... I just can't concentrate on anything. I want to-- I am hungry, Blaine, please make it stop. Make it stop!”
Blaine wrapped his arms around Kurt and held him. He gently caressed his back and whispered soothing words into Kurt's ear but Kurt just wouldn't stop shaking. “Kurt, you need blood. There's nothing I can do about that. I need to get you someone to feed on. You have to keep going until I come back.”
“No, please don't leave me. I don't know what I'll do. I'll--”
“Kurt, I am sorry. This is my fault. I didn't expect that you needed this much blood. I am so sorry. Please, you need to stay calm and you need to wait here.” Blaine took both of Kurt's hands. “I know you can do this. For me.” Kurt hesitated but then nodded. “I'll be back as soon as I can.”
“Lock me in somewhere.”
Blaine gave Kurt a perplexed look. “What?”
“I said, lock me in somewhere. I can't handle hearing all these noises and then all these scents... it's driving me insane and I don't know what I'll do, if you leave me alone. So, please, lock me up.”
Blaine squeezed his eyes shut for a second-- what have I done to him?-- but then he took Kurt's hand and only seconds later they were in the living room and Blaine pulled out the chains that Damien had used to chain him up the first time he had gone red eyes on Kurt and Cooper. They were hidden behind the bookshelves and Blaine pulled on them to make sure they wouldn't give in.
He bit his lip as he locked the chains around Kurt's wrist so hard that he almost broke the skin on his bottom lip. “I'll be back. You can do this, Kurt.” He gently took Kurt's chin and pressed his lips on Kurt's. He let them linger, savoring the taste and the feeling before he stepped away and he was gone within the blink of an eye, leaving Kurt standing at the wall. Soon after, Kurt's hands started to shake again.

Blaine reached the town faster than he ever had. He needed to help Kurt, couldn't let him be in pain, couldn't let him suffer. He rushed through the streets, almost running but there were too many people around. If he broke into a run now, chances were he would be seen and he couldn't risk that.
At the corner of a street he stopped and took a deep breath through his nose. There was someone just two blocks over. And that someone was alone. Perfect.
Blaine took two steps back and looked up at the facade of the building, which was about six meters high, before jumping up the brick wall. He climbed up a pipe and then held on to the edge of the roof before catapulting himself onto the roof. Up here he could run and he did. Within seconds he had reached the street where a man walked on his own towards Main Street. Blaine looked down at him from where he was standing on the roof and saw that he had to be around twenty, probably younger, so still a teenager. Blaine bit his lip but he couldn't be picky now, even though he normally tried not to kill people as young as that. He tried not to think about the girl he had killed in Westerville that one night., but instead took a step off the roof.
He landed behind the man on the concrete without a sound but the teen seemed to sense that someone was behind him because he turned around and let out a surprised gasp when he saw Blaine. Blaine simply rushed forward and hit him hard in the stomach and then the back of his head. The boy fell down to the ground, unconscious, with a little bit of blood trickling from his temple, where it had hit the concrete.
Without hesitating Blaine picked him up and threw him over his shoulder but then he heard a shout. Another man had appeared at the end of the street and was now starting to run towards Blaine. “Hey! Let him down! What are you doing? Stay where you are!”
But Blaine didn't waste any time and disappeared into a small alley on the side before jumping up to the roof again, almost letting go of the body in the process. He reached the rooftop before the man down on the street reached the corner and Blaine hid behind a chimney. He could hear the man murmur about where Blaine had gone but he also heard him making his way down the street quickly, probably on his way to the police station.
Blaine cursed loudly when he was sure the man was gone. He hadn't been paying attention and now someone had seen him. Blaine could just hope that the man had only seen a glimpse of him but he couldn't help but think that this only added to the pile of problems bothering him. However, Kurt was more important now.
He shouldered the man and made his way back to Anderson Manor over the rooftops until he reached the forest that surrounded the house. The speed at which he flew through the forest surprised him. The body was not making him any slower and he was at the house and inside just shortly after.
He stopped in the hall, listening for any sounds of Kurt and only heard his breathing and the quiet clattering of the chains. So, Kurt hadn't broken out of them. At least, not yet.
Blaine slowly lay the body of the man on the floor, carefully, trying not to hurt his head any more than he already had but just then the guy woke up.
“Oh fuck, what happened? Where am—”, He paused and looked around himself. He caught sight of Blaine and scrambled backwards to try to get away from him. “What the—? Who the hell are you? Where did you bring me?” He sucked in a breath. “What do you want?”
Blaine heard Kurt in the living room, hissing and growling, obviously because he had heard them, and just hoped the boy wouldn't hear Kurt.“Please, don't yell. It's okay. I'm sorry for kidnapping you, I guess, and I'm sorry for hitting you. I brought you to Anderson Manor, the house in the woods close to the outskirts of town. My name's Blaine Anderson.”
The guy scoffed and brought even more distance between Blaine and himself. “Is this supposed to be some kind of joke? Blaine Anderson doesn't exist.”
Blaine's eyebrows shot up in surprise. “You have heard about me?”
“No, I—I have read about a Blaine Anderson who would be the ancestor of Cooper Anderson who lives at Anderson Manor. But he doesn't exist.”
“And why is that?” Blaine cocked his head to the side.
“Because the legend says, Blaine Anderson was a vampire.” The boy swallowed and then scoffed again.
“Well, then you better be prepared for what's coming.” Blaine said slowly and with a joking voice before he got serious again. “'Cause I told the truth. My name is Blaine Anderson and I guess, I am that guy the legend talks about, 'cause that pretty much sounds like it could be me.”
“You are playing some stupid prank on me, aren't you? Who put you up to this? Was it Mark?”
“Listen.” Blaine lowered himself until he was at eye-level with him. “Listen very carefully. No one put me up to this. I am telling the truth, meaning, yes, I am a vampire. And I brought you here because I need you.”
The man on the floor pushed himself backwards, shaking, until his back hit the wall. Blaine stayed where he was, crouching and watching his eyes frantically searching for a way out of here. “What do you want from me, then? If you really are a vampire, then why would you tell me? Why don't you just kill me, huh?”
For a second, Blaine didn't answer but listened to the noises coming from the living room. Kurt was quiet. Too quiet, but still there. He needed to get this over with fast. He needed to help Kurt. Blaine really had a plan. He couldn't risk this anymore, bringing yet more humans to the manor, every day to keep Kurt satisfied. So an idea had come to his mind.
He turned his attention back to the young man in front of him. “What's your name?” He asked instead of answering his question.
“Why do you care?”
“What is your name?”
“...Graham.”
“Alright, Graham. I brought you here because I turned someone into a vampire just a day ago. He is very hungry. He needs more blood than I can get him. People would notice, if more and more people went missing, so I can't risk that anymore. That's where you come in. I know this sounds horrible but I need you to let him feed from you.” Blaine listened to Graham's heartbeat as it got faster and faster. “He won't kill you. I will make sure he won't. But after that, I'm gonna keep you here. You will have food and a place to sleep and everything else you might want, but you can't leave. Because Kurt will have to feed more, and I can use you to train him.”
Graham's eyes were frantic. “You can't be serious. Why would you think I'd agree to that?”
“I didn't think you would.”
“What kind of psychopath are you?” Graham almost yelled and Blaine heard Kurt growl again. “You ought to be locked up!”
Blaine sighed and stood up to walk over to Graham who tried to get away but Blaine had his collar in one hand and pulled him up before Graham had even moved a meter. “I am sorry it was you, Graham, but I'm not letting you go. Either you agree to this and you live on or you don't and I will let Kurt kill you right the first time. Your choice.”
Graham pushed against Blaine's chest, panicking when he noticed that Blaine wouldn't budge. “Don't kill me, please, just—”
“Do you promise to stay here? Then I will promise that you will live and that I will do anything to make it as comfortable as possible for you.”
“I promise, just please don't...”
Blaine let go of Graham but didn't step away from him. “Alright, then. We have a deal. Wait here for a second. Don't you dare run away.” And Blaine was gone in a blur.
He entered the living room, glad to see that Kurt was still there, now sitting on the floor with his arms wrapped around his knees and his head resting on them. He was still shaking slightly and it made the chains around his wrists shake as well. Blaine was not sure Kurt had heard him over the sound of that.
“Kurt?” It was almost a whisper.
Kurt's head snapped up and Blaine tried not to flinch. Kurt's eyes were very dark again. Almost as dark as they had been when Kurt had woken up from his turning. He was on his feet immediately when he saw Blaine. He was pulling on the chains but he was not nearly strong enough. A hiss escaped between his teeth and Blaine thought he had seen something for a split second, right there in Kurt's eyes. Kurt was fighting this. He was trying not to want this, but his instincts were still stronger than him. It was a start, though.
In the blink of an eye Blaine was standing in front of Kurt. He opened the lock of the cuffs around Kurt's hands while whispering in his ear. “Fight it, Kurt. Come on, I know you can do this.” But Kurt tried to get past Blaine instantly when the chains were gone. Blaine held Kurt at his wrists but had to let go when Kurt aimed for his neck with his fangs. Kurt made it halfway to the door before Blaine had him trapped with telekinesis.
Kurt hissed and growled but he couldn't move. Blaine walked past him into the hall raising an eyebrow at Graham who hadn't moved from his spot at the wall. “Come here.” Blaine said and Graham slowly made his way over to the door. When he looked through it and saw Kurt, Blaine had to grab his arm, otherwise he would have run.
“Holy shit—” His eyes were fixed on Kurt. Kurt, whose eyes were dark, with bared fangs, growling and trying to get out of Blaine's hold. “I'm not doing this. No way. Uh uh. No.” He tried to walk backwards but Blaine rolled his eyes and pushed him forward into the room.
“You promised, remember? Now, I'm gonna release him and he will attack you, obviously. But don't worry, I'll keep my promise. I won't let him kill you, I won't let him take too much, understand?” He looked at Graham but Graham couldn't take his eyes off of Kurt. “Don't fight him, it will only hurt more.”
“...Just to clear things up, you are like that, too?”
Blaine nodded. “Yes.”
Graham swallowed heavily. “Alrighty. Got nothing to lose then, do I?” He actually chuckled. Blaine gave him a confused look before stepping back and releasing his hold on Kurt.
Graham didn't even see him coming. Kurt had his teeth in Graham's neck only a millisecond later but Graham didn't scream. Instead he just squeezed his eyes shut and let out a quiet whimper. Blaine took a step closer again and put a hand on the back of Kurt's neck, ready to pull him away anytime. He wouldn't let Kurt drink a lot. Just enough to keep him satisfied for the next ten hours. That was a long time for a newly turned vampire to go without blood but Blaine needed Kurt to get used to it. And now, with Graham in the house, Blaine could constantly train Kurt to resist his urge to attack and feed. This might go faster than I thought it would.
Graham opened his eyes and his eyes found Blaine's. Blaine gave him a questioning look. “Stop?”
Graham bit his lip when a tear slipped from his eye. “...Yes, please, make him stop.”
“Okay.” Blaine gripped Kurt's neck tightly and pulled him backwards. Kurt didn't fight him and stumbled back a few steps, wiping his hand over his blood-smeared mouth. Blaine growled lowly, telling Kurt to back off and Kurt understood its meaning and backed away.
He still wanted more. He wanted to drink until it was all gone, until the body of that man would go limp. He could feel the desire burning in the back of his throat but he didn't dare coming close to Blaine and that guy. He knew by now that he didn't stand a chance against Blaine, if Blaine didn't want to let him win.
Blaine gave Kurt another warning look, he couldn't be sure Kurt was in control of himself, before he turned to Graham to take a look at his profusely bleeding neck. He tilted his head before simply saying “Oh, well, screw it.” He took his own wrist between his teeth and bit down until the skin broke. He didn't like the thought of giving his blood to a random guy but he had to. Otherwise his plan of keeping Graham with them for a while wouldn't work.
He held his bleeding wrist out to Graham. “Drink.”
“What? No.” Graham shook his head and leaned away.
“You have to drink. It will heal your neck. I promised I wouldn't let you die. This is me keeping that promise. Now drink before it heals.” He held his wrist closer to Graham's mouth but Graham shook his head. “God damn it! Why are you so stubborn? I'm just trying to help.”
“Yeah, right.” Graham chuckled nervously. “After you let him feed from me, you want me to drink your blood. Don't you think I know how this works? You are trying to turn me.”
“I'm certainly not trying to do that. You have to trust me. This will heal you, not turn you.” Blaine looked down at his wrist that had already healed. “Please, Graham, trust me.” He looked straight into his eyes trying to make him understand that he was telling the truth.
Then Graham sighed. “Okay, alright. I trust you, seeing as you really did stop him from killing me.” He gave Kurt a look that clearly showed that he didn't trust him but he looked back at Blaine. “It will just heal me?”
“Yes.” Blaine nodded and again he bit into his wrist and offered it to Graham. This time carefully closed his lips around the bite and swallowed some of the blood that was dripping from it. He pulled away and squeezed his eyes shut for a second.
“Uargh,” He pulled a face at the taste of it. “That's disgusting.”
Blaine rolled his eyes and gently pushed Graham's neck to the side to look at the bit in his neck that was now starting to heal up. “I don't think it will scar. We'll look at it later.” He stepped away from Graham, who quickly put a hand to his neck to find only smooth skin and a little blood there, and looked at Kurt. “Are you alright?”
Kurt just nodded. “Why did you stop me, though? What do you want to do with him?”
Blaine took a deep breath. “Kurt, this is Graham. Graham, that's Kurt. Graham will stay here until you have learned to control yourself and then I think I'll let him go. He has agreed to let you feed from him regularly as long as we don't kill him. In return, he will get his own bedroom and food and whatever he might need. And you,” Blaine pointed a finger at Kurt. “You are not allowed to touch him unless I say so. If you feel like you're losing it, you tell me. And Graham, if he attacks you, you scream. Is that clear?”
Both Kurt and Graham nodded.
“Okay, then.” Blaine said. “Graham, you can go and see, if you find something to eat in the kitchen, preferably meat. And don't try to leave the house. I'll know when you do and I'll catch you before you even take a step outside. Kurt, you can go wash the blood off your face and then avoid the kitchen. And I am gonna call Damien. I need to tell him what's happening to me and we have to get started with your training, don't we?”
