“I know we still got each other,” he sang.
It’d be rude to interrupt him.
“But I’m in distress,”
but Kurt knew he had to do it.
“Cuz every time that I feel like I’ve figured you out,”
He just needed a moment to collect himself.
“I can’t seem to figure you in,”
He stopped right outside the door, listening for a moment.
“It’s got nothing to do with me,”
It felt oddly personal.
“It’s not even you, you see.”
Like he was eavesdropping, even though the entire floor could hear Blaine singing.
“It’s part of my chemistry,”
Each syllable was filled will soul,
“It’s this Jealousy.”
Oh god Kurt thought. His stomach twisted into a tight knot. The song was about him, and it wasn’t good. The song actually sounded very good, Kurt thought to himself, but it made him feel despicable. Blaine was jealous.
He froze there in the hallway.
Blaine was wrong about one thing… it wasn’t the fault of his ‘chemistry,’ it was definitely the fault of one Kurt Hummel.
Kurt turned swiftly back toward his room, and as he did so he saw a shock of blonde before he found himself staring at the ceiling. Jeff was sprawled out on the floor opposite him.
The guitar had stopped.
Blaine’s door swung open.
“Are you guys alright?” Blaine said, his eyes flashing between them. Jeff was sitting up on his elbow, rubbing his forehead. His eyes were far away. Kurt just laid there, back glued to the floor, looking at Blaine’s upside down face.
Blaine helped them both up. Jeff walked off in the direction he’d come, and Kurt was pretty sure he couldn’t tell the ceiling from the floor.
“Here, come sit down and I’ll get you some water or something,” Blaine said, helping Kurt onto his bed. Blaine closed the door before rifling through his duffel bag for the water bottle he carried everywhere with him.
As Kurt recovered, he was hit with the reality of the situation. He was alone. With Blaine. In Blaine’s room. On Blaine’s bed.
“That was a nice song you were playing,” Kurt said, but the words and the tune escaped him.
“Oh,” Blaine looked up nervously, “How-uh- How much did you hear?”
“I’m not really sure,” Kurt said truthfully, “After that hit I can’t really remember much of anything.” Blaine was visibly relieved.
“Maybe you could play it for me some time,” he finished.
“Yeah,” Blaine answered non-committally, plopping down next to Kurt on the bed.
“I didn’t want to interrupt you, but I came over here to tell you something,”
“Shoot,” Blaine said, handing Kurt some aspirin and the water bottle.
Kurt dropped both the aspirin onto his tongue. He just had to spit it out.
“I can go,” He said, before throwing his head back and filling his mouth with water.
“What?” Blaine seemed completely baffled.
“To the Gap Attack,” Kurt clarified after swallowing the pills.
Blaine’s eyes lit up instantly.
“Really?!” he asked with an atypical amount of enthusiasm.
“Yeah… why are you so excited?”
“I just- Don’t tell the guys, but- I was kind of nervous,” Blaine said, thinking quickly, “I just needed a friend,” he said, placing his hand of Kurt’s knee.
A friend? That’ the last thing Kurt wanted to hear. Did friends usually run their hands over your thigh in the way Blaine was?
“So don’t you want to know what happened to Peter?”
“Has to work, huh?” Blaine said before he could stop himself.
“How did you-“
“Uh, Jeremiah told me… they work together and all,”
“Oh, I thought it might have been Jeff,” Kurt’s voice was empty. He wished so much that Blaine had said Jeff… The song started coming back to him… and he realized maybe the jealousy thing wasn’t about him… maybe it was about Jeremiah. After all, he wasn’t singing to Kurt for Valentine’s Day…
“Funny,” Kurt said after a brief silence, “My guy,” Blaine’s expression changed completely when he heard Kurt refer to Peter as ‘his guy’, but he had to let it go if he was going to be convincing, “and yours… happen to work at the same Gap… on the same night.”
“Yeah, weird…” he thought about it for a second. It was kind of weird… but after a little while it seemed less like weird and more like dreadful. Of course Peter worked there. Fucking Gap.

“Ooh, he shared his water? K and his boy swapped spit! Kind of… Congrats Hummel, you’ve finally indirectly… gone to first base.”
“Shut it, Puckerman!”
“I have been kissed before, you know,” Kurt said, shuddering at the thought of seeing Karofsky again.
“I’m gonna go get a muffin, you want anything, Babe?”
“I’m fine,” Rachel told him, holding up her cup. Kurt looked over to her as Puck got in line.
“Why is he even here?” Kurt asked, aggravated. Mercedes had already bailed on their coffee date, but now he had to deal with Noah too?
“I need to make Finn jealous,”
“Taking your own advice there?” Kurt said. Rachel looked into her coffee cup penitently.
“It’s alright,” Kurt said in response to her guilt, “At least it’s working for someone…”
“You’ve got a leg up, though,”
Kurt scoffed at her attempt to allay him.
“I mean it! I chose Puckerman because I assumed he’d annoy Finn the most… You can make Peter into every quality Blaine hates in a person.” Kurt considered this. Rachel had a point, “You just need to figure out what it is that would piss him off so much that he’d have to get involved,”
“What would be bad enough for him to do that…” Kurt contemplated aloud.
“I don’t know.” Rachel said blankly as she stirred her iced tea with her straw, “The kind of stuff people write songs about,”
~.~*~.~
“Just so you know, you have an obscene amount of Broadway classics on here,” Jeff said in a pretentious voice as he scrolled through the iTunes library on Kurt’s computer.
“Last warning, Williams,” Kurt continued under his breath, “they’re called classics for a reason…”
“It should just be a few minutes. They’re downloading now.” He said, spinning his desk chair around to face Kurt.
“How many are there?”
“Let me think, I sent you ‘I Still Think’… ‘Boy Toy’,”
“Do I want to know?” Kurt snorted.
“You’ll find out soon enough, Boy Toy.”
“Jeffery… Don’t you dare,”
“It’ll be your new nickname by first period tomorrow,”
“I hate you,”
“Aaanyway, there’s also ‘Jealousy’” Kurt’s ears perked up, “Sami…” Jeff marked them off on his fingers.
“Sami?”
“Yeah, actually… it’s about some guy Blaine had a crush on… Sam… something,” he said as if that needed to be clarified.
“Why would I want to hear a song he wrote for some other guy?”
“I thought maybe you could sing it to yourself and pretend he’s saying Kuuuuuuuurrrrtsiieeee!” Jeff belted out.
“Shut up! What if he hears you!”
“I’m sure that’s what goes on in his head anyway, he won’t even be able to tell the difference,”
“Can we just get back to the songs,” It wasn’t a question. Kurt was annoyed now.
“Uh… I think that’s it… Oh! And I added ‘The Menstrual Minstrel’ just for shits and giggles,”
“The what?”
Jeff just laughed.
“Blaine wrote a song about periods.” And again, it wasn’t a question. Of course Blaine wrote a song about periods…
“Hey, you’re the one that wants to get in his pants,” Jeff stated matter of factly. Kurt’s cheeks tinted a violent shade of scarlet.
“Shut up and download the songs, Williams. I need my computer”
“But what about the cover art I made?!”
~.~*~.~
Kurt hummed along as the words ran through his head, “Tennis rackets… make their way as they please, in those SUVs…”
“Whatcha singin’?” Blaine appeared suddenly beside him.
“Oh! Uh, nothin’… Just a song from the play. They’ve been stuck in my head for the past week and a half.”
“I bet,” Blaine replied. There was no suspicion in his voice, and Kurt knew his thoughts must be elsewhere, “So, I’ve been meaning to ask… can I buy tickets from you? Or do I have to order them somewhere…”
“Blaine, the play is like 3 months away…”
“Yeah, so? I want to make sure I grab front row seats!”
“Seat-s?” Kurt emphasized the plural.
“Yeah, I think I’m going to bring Jeremiah… he loves theatre,”
Of course Jeremiah loved theatre… The fact that Blaine thought he and Jeremiah would still be together in three months irked Kurt more than any of Blaine’s other Jeremiah related anecdotes. If Blaine was that serious about this guy maybe he wouldn’t care if Peter acted like a complete douchebag…
“Well, I’m not selling them, but you can buy some from Peter…”
Blaine’s face dropped. Two can play this game, Kurt thought.
