“Mercedes? Mercedes!”
“Kurt? What the –“
Mercedes gasped as Kurt tugged her away from her History classroom and into a small janitor’s closet nearby. She looked at her BFF with questioning eyes, and continued to look at him for a while longer. Kurt’s hair was less quaffed then usual, with a few chestnut locks hanging over his eyes. He looked tired, stressed out, but most of all, angry. His big blue eyes seemed darker, worried almost. Mercedes only saw Kurt an hour ago.
Sometimes, a lot can happen in an hour.
As Kurt has just discovered.
“I need your help!” Kurt squeaked, clutching at her shoulders.
“Relax, Kurt. What’s wrong? And, don’t take this the wrong way, but you look awful.”
Kurt furrowed his eyebrows tightly and closed his eyes, ignoring Mercedes last comment because frankly, he couldn’t give a rat’s ass what he looks like right now.
Well, maybe he does a little.
“Mercedes, please. I just need someone to talk to and you criticising my appearance right now is so not helping.”
“OK, I’m sorry. Now, what’s up?”
Kurt sighed, where do I start? He thought.
Well, remember we were talking about Blaine Anderson being single again? Well, now I think I may be beginning to feel something for him, which sucks, because he’s everything I want to be, he’s beautiful, smart and popular, and he stole practically everything from me, and now I feel like a complete idiot because I just embarrassed myself completely, and I don’t know what’s going on in my head right now, and I just can’t even begin to figure out how to tell you all this.
“You know what? Forget it. I’ll talk to you later.”
Kurt opened the door for a very confused Mercedes, who seemed to be refusing to move anywhere.
“Oh, hell to the no, Kurt! You hunt me down, drag me into a disgusting janitor’s closet and don’t even give me a little gossip?”
“Gossip?” uttered a small voice by the door, a voice that did not belong to either Kurt or Mercedes.
Blaine stood with his arms folded across his muscular chest, with a giant smile spread across his face. As soon as he heard Kurt’s giant black boots stomping through the furthest hallway in the school, Blaine knew he would catch-up with Kurt easily. He could also pick out Kurt’s voice in crowd pretty easily, it was so distinctively high and wonderful, it was a piece of cake. Plus, the fact he was yelling for Mercedes, who funnily enough, is Kurt’s best friend, contributed as well.
Kurt’s jaw dropped at Blaine’s casual arrival, whilst Mercedes smiled brightly at the two of them.
“Hey, Blaine. How you holding up?”
“Much better than I was an hour ago, that’s for sure. Thanks Mercedes.” Blaine replied, smiling brightly at Kurt, who felt as if his cheeks had just burst into flames.
“No problem, I’ll see you both later.” She yelled, as she brushed past Blaine and left Kurt awkwardly alone inside the janitor’s closet, with Blaine still leaning against the door. Kurt shot Mercedes his best bitch-glare, in which she replied with a simple wink. Kurt knew what that meant. She had a hunch. She always had a hunch.
“So, what’s this new gossip? I mean, you left so quickly, it must have been important.” Blaine chuckled.
Kurt didn’t realise he was grinding his teeth until he began to speak.
“I believe it’s none of your business” Kurt hissed, keeping his eyes locked on the floor and brushing past a grinning Blaine.
There. That should do it.
“Hey now” Blaine called, following Kurt down the hallway towards his locker. “I was only kidding. What’s wrong?” he asked. Kurt stopped abruptly, but refused to turn around. He couldn’t even bare to look at Blaine when he says the words he has to say, just to prove to himself that he was strong enough not to give into temptation. And those god-damn beautiful eyes.
“Just…just stay away from me, Blaine.”
Blaine stepped in front of Kurt, blocking him access to his locker, and access to escape. He bored into Kurt’s sparkling blue eyes and held his gaze for a good few seconds before speaking as softly as he could.
“Kurt, what did I do wrong? I just want to –“
“I can’t, Blaine.” Kurt interjected.
“But I –“
“Sorry. Bye.”
“Kurt!” Blaine yelled, grabbing Kurt’s wrist, causing Kurt to knock straight into the smaller boy’s arms. “Please, just talk to me.”
Maybe not giving into temptation would be harder than he thought.
Kurt regained his aloof composure, brushed himself off and stood in front of a puzzled Blaine, who looked at Kurt with nothing more than pure concern. Kurt could do this. He could easily tell Blaine exactly why he doesn’t want to talk to him, and why Kurt dislikes him so much. Although, the only things Kurt can think of right now are the things he really likes about Blaine, which certainly wasn’t helping him out.
But he couldn’t. He couldn’t just be blunt and rude to Blaine like normal. Maybe it was because he knows Blaine’s struggling with a fresh break-up right now. Maybe it’s because he’s the only other gay guy at McKinley. Or maybe it’s because Blaine is just a genuinely compassionate guy, who doesn’t deserve Kurt.
Hell, let’s go with that last one.
Without thinking, Kurt plucked a black Sharpie pen from his designer bag and grabbed Blaine’s hand forcefully. If he couldn’t be forceful with his words, then he definitely shall be with his hands.
“What are you doing?” Blaine asked, curious as to what Kurt was scribbling on his hand.
“Giving you my phone number.”
“May I ask why?” Blaine smiled, feeling especially glad that he decided not to miss school today due to his break-up the night before.
“I don’t want to talk to you here” Kurt whispered “so I’m giving you my number so we can arrange a time and place to meet for coffee, got it?” he spat.
“So, you’re taking up on my coffee invitation?”
“I can’t do it tonight, if that’s what you’re thinking. I’ll have you know I’m a very busy guy. Besides, you’re tutoring Katie Harman tonight for her Biology test tomorrow.”
Blaine’s caramel coloured eyes grew wider at Kurt’s final comment.
“How did you know I was tutoring Katie tonight? Are you stalking me or something?”
Kurt couldn’t help but roll his eyes at Blaine. Arrogance would be another thing added to his list of things he disliked about Blaine.
Stalking him? He should be so lucky.
Blaine obviously didn’t know he took one of Kurt’s tutoring sessions away from him; therefore, he wouldn’t go into details. Instead, he gave Blaine one of his best bitch smirks and replied with a simple:
“Or something.”
And with that, he disappeared. Leaving a puzzled, yet incredibly infatuated Blaine Anderson behind him.
Taking a seat in his Geography classroom, Kurt felt a small jolt of vibrations up his leg. Sneakily, he pulled out his phone to see he had a text message from an unknown number.
Just checking you didn’t give me a fake number. ;) How about Thursday? The Lima Bean? After Glee rehearsal? – Blaine.
Kurt found himself smiling slightly at the screen for a few minutes before finally replying with a short, one word answer Blaine was so used to getting from him.
Sure.
Now, Blaine had his number, and they were finally going to talk somewhere other than school, Kurt felt somewhat at ease about the whole ordeal. Finally, he’ll be able to sit down and have a mature conversation with the asshole who was trying to ruin his senior year.
Kurt was going to give Blaine a piece of his mind.
This is going to be fun.
