“OK class, unfortunately I have to head to a meeting with Principal Figgin’s, so Mr. Peachman will be subbing for the last 15 minutes of class.”
Kurt watched as a tiny elderly man shuffled into the classroom, taking the seat behind the desk and falling into a deep slumber. He couldn’t help but giggle when a giant snore from the sleeping teacher frightened poor Mrs. Johns, but he stopped himself when he heard a small chuckle from the boy next to him, who couldn’t seem to take his eyes off of Kurt.
“What?” Kurt hissed.
“I’m sorry, it’s just…you’ve got a great laugh.” Blaine whispered.
Kurt rolled his eyes and turned them towards Mrs. Johns, who was now packing up her things. As hard as he tried to make his exterior look as if he was ignoring Blaine next to him, Kurt’s interior had a serious case of the jitters. How can Blaine just say that to him? How dare he? Who does he think he is?
Of course, he’s Blaine Anderson.
Mr. Perfect.
Ugh.
“For the last 15 minutes, I want you all to discuss the theme of wealth and value in Silas Marner to the person sitting next to you. And I expect you all to have read the book for next time. Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Oh, and if anyone thinks of sneaking out of class, I’m sure Mr. Peachman would love to hold you back after school in a 3 hour detention.”
With an affirmative grunt from Mr. Peachman, Mrs. Johns disappeared out of the classroom, much to Kurt’s annoyance. He much preferred Mrs. Johns actually doing a class discussion, rather than limiting it to just your partners. Really, he just didn’t want to talk to Blaine. But, of course, the laws of the universe pretty much hate him right now. So, he’ll just have to get through it. It’s only 15 minutes.
Blaine sat staring at Kurt, who now began flicking through his text book with his best poker face, making no eye contact with Blaine whatsoever. It was incredibly awkward and tense for both of them, but, Blaine being the confident young man he was, broke the ice.
“So, how’s life?”
Unfortunately, a 20 ton penguin would have broken the ice better. Still, Kurt admired his effort, for a short moment.
“Fine.” He muttered.
“That’s good. I’m not doing too well myself.” Blaine replied with a smile, leaning back on his chair. Kurt turned to the boy, shaking his head.
“Oh.” Kurt spat. “Sucks.”
Blaine chuckled once again. “Yeah, it really does.”
“So, I think that the main way wealth is portrayed in the book is by the fact gold –“ Kurt began, but was interrupted by Blaine placing his hand over his, closing his text book with a gentle shove.
“-Forget about the book for a second. Can’t we just talk?”
Kurt snapped his head in Blaine’s direction, but was taken back by the soft expression Blaine gave him. His honey eyes had almost turned gold, with a slight tint of green around the pupil. His full and luscious looking lips were parted slightly, awaiting Kurt to answer. A single curl dangled by one of his perfectly shaped, yet oddly triangular eyebrow, and Kurt had pretty much forgotten everything that was around him. The only thing that remained was the beautiful face before him.
Snap out of it! His mind screeched. Stop staring and answer him, dammit!
“Uhh – I – Umm, well. No, we have to…talk about the book.”
Blaine smirked slightly at Kurt’s stammering. Kurt tilted his head, giving him a quizzical look.
“Wow” Blaine breathed, “I think that was probably the longest sentence you’ve ever said to me.”
Kurt couldn’t help but smile at Blaine, because the fact he stated was pretty much true.
“Not true” Kurt began “I believe when I first met you, I gave you at least a 15 word sentence, so you’re wrong about that.”
Blaine chuckled. “Well, I believe you have just topped yourself. Congrats.”
Kurt looked down, feeling his cheeks blush a furious shade of scarlet. What was wrong with him? What happened to hating Blaine Anderson? How could anyone hate him?
“So, Kurt. Now that you’re finally talking to me, how about we go for coffee after school? I’ve been here since September, yet I feel that I don’t know anything about you other than your name and the fact that you have a beautiful singing voice.”
Kurt shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Blaine was in Glee Club with him, so of course, the only way Blaine had heard his voice is through his performances in Glee. Kurt almost had the nerve to get out his phone and text Mercedes, telling her that he can’t hang out tonight. But, he didn’t. Even if he was starting to like Blaine Anderson –
Wait, what?!
Kurt shot up out of his seat, realisation flowing through him. He was supposed to hate Blaine’s guts. He was an arrogant, spoilt, perfect guy who could do nothing wrong. He was Kurt’s nemesis, his enemy. He didn’t want to like Blaine, he just couldn’t. He couldn’t like his looks, his personality, his voice, his everything.
Blaine was not going to charm Kurt anymore, even if Kurt liked it more than anything.
OK. I think I need to get out of here.
“Th-thank you, but I’m going to have to pass.” Kurt stuttered. Great, now Kurt was stuttering. Over Blaine Anderson. “I’ll see you around.” He lied.
“Kurt, class isn’t over yet. We’ve still got 5 minutes.” Blaine told him, concern all over his perfect face. Kurt shivered slightly at the way Blaine said his name, so forcefully, yet so naturally, as if it just rolled off of his tongue, with a hint of emotion. He loved the way Blaine enunciated his words, it fit his personality so well.
“Yeah, well, I have to go.”
And with that, Kurt tiptoed out of the room quietly, preventing Mr. Peachman awakening to his sneaking out. Blaine watched him with wide eyes, furrowing his eyebrows slightly. However, in an instant, he found himself packing his own bag and racing after the boy with the angelic features and the big blue eyes. He didn’t know why he followed after him; maybe it was just the aftermath of his emotional breakdown he had last night acting out on him.
Once out in the hallway, he found himself alone. In 5 minutes, these hallways would be crowded with his friends and teachers, yet, he was pretty sure he could spot Kurt from mile away. He couldn’t and wouldn’t let Kurt get away that easily.
He had a sneaky suspicion that Kurt wouldn't want him to either. Even if he didn't know it yet.
