Blaine got out of his dad's car on the cold winter day, the wind whipping his scarf into his face. He moved it from his face and walked up to the house that Kurt had talked about for so many months.
In the few months they had known each other, this was the first time they were able to play outside of school together and Blaine could not be anymore excited. He knocked on the door, his blue gloves shining in the bit of sun that managed to peak out between the snow and the white fluffy clouds.
A large burly man opened the door, wearing a rugged flannel shirt and a blue baseball cap. He looked down at Blaine, who eyes were large saucers in the prescence of one Burt Hummel. "Hello kiddo, you must Blaine," he said with a smile. "Kurt's been baking with Carole all morning to make sure you two had snacks," he informed Blaine as he ushered the boy inside, waving to Blaine's father.
Blaine smiled softly at the thought of Kurt making him snacks. "Awesome!" he said, happy. He heard the sound of feet running towards him, but the sound did not belong to Kurt. it belonged to a larger kd he had seen around the schoolyard who Kurt had always pointed out as his step-brother Finn.
Finn waved, "Hi. I'm Finn." he told Blaine, before telling Blaine where he can set his shoes and coat. Blaine quietly introduce himself before taking his outside garmets off and following Finn into the kitchen.
The aroma of cookies filled his nose and he smiled in delight, seeing Kurt with flour all over his face and a pink apron tied around his waist. The apron was too large for Kurt, obviously belonging to an adult, but Kurt didn't seem to notice or even care. When he spotted Blaine he ran over almost tackling the other boy to the ground.
Kurt took Blaine's hand, pulling him over to where fresh baked cookies were sitting on the counter. Kurt squealed when he saw Finn's hand reach over and snatch a cookie before running. Blaine watched as Kurt ran after Finn, yelling about how the cookies weren't for him, and Blaine couldn't help but laugh. He did not mind sharing with someone who was related to Kurt.
While watching the two step-brothers run around the kitchen, he did not notice one Carole Hudson-Hummel walk up behind him. "You must be Blaine!" she said, with a cheerful smile, causing Blaine to jump about a foot in the air. Blaine turned and looked up at her. He nodded, but said nothing. Carole responded with, "Well I'm his step-mother Carole, and he has been talking about you this entire school year. I'm glad you finally got to come over."
Blaine nodded again, not quite sure what to tell this nice lady. She laughed softly at his sheepish replies and ruffled his hair "Play nice with the boys, okay?" she asked, before walking away.
Kurt finally ran back over, having given up on trying to take the cookie back from Finn. Blaine smile brightly, "Are we gonna play now?" he asked and Kurt giggled.
"Of course we are," he replied, taking Blaine's hand in his. He grabbed the plate of cookies with his other hand and pulled him upstairs to his room. He set it down on the small table in the middle of the room, that had a small tea set sitting on top of it. There were four chairs, two empty chairs across from each other, and the other two occupied by teddy bears. Blaine giggled at the sight and ran over to sit in one of the chairs.
Kurt took off his apron, hung it up on a hanger in his closet and sat down in the other chair. He took the teapot and pour two cups of "tea." The tea was actually just iced tea since Carole did not think that giving two children hot tea was the best idea. Blaine thanked Kurt and picked up his cup. Kurt showed Blaine how to drink his tea all fancy-like, by sticking his tea out.
For the span of their playdate, they were never bothered by the family. Sure, Carole or Burt would check on them every few hours, but even they noticed that bothering the kids would ruin the blooming romance.
At the end of the night, Kurt wrapped Blaine in a hug and when he thought no one was looking, he kissed Blaine on the cheek.
Blaine blushed, "Goodnight Kurtsie. You are my bestest friend," he told him, before scampering off to his dad's car.
This would be the first of many playdates.
