Kurt was a nervous wreck when the day of his and Blaine's date rolled around. He was terrified that he was going to mess everything up and then Blaine would hate him forever and he'd never have a friend ever again and no, shut up Kurt!
“Kurt!” Burt called from downstairs. “Blaine's here!”
Breathe…breathe…you're calm…you're – no you're not, you're freaking out.
“Kurt!”
Taking a deep breath, Kurt made his way downstairs, literally tripping down the last few stairs when his eyes landed on Blaine standing at the door way.
“Oh my god, are you okay?” Blaine asked, rushing to help Kurt off the floor.
Kurt nodded, standing up and blushing furiously. Burt was standing off to the side, laughing at his son's embarrassment. Kurt glared at him, frowning a little.
“Okay, I'm sorry,” Burt laughed. “Don't be out too late, okay?”
Kurt nodded, smiling at his dad before hugging him. Burt was shocked, but wrapped his arms around Kurt nonetheless.
Smiling and waving at his father, Kurt left the house, his hand intertwined with Blaine's.
“Okay…I wouldn't tell you where we were going usually but I know you're really anxious about this so…I thought maybe we could go and watch a movie so that you don't have to worry about speaking, and then…I sort of made up a picnic and I thought we could go to the park and…”
Kurt grinned at Blaine, boldly pressing a kiss to his flushed cheek.
“I'll assume that means you're okay with that idea then?” Blaine laughed, Kurt nodding in reply. “Good.” He smiled, squeezing Kurt's hand before opening the car door for him.
They finally arrived at the cinema and queued up for their tickets. Blaine couldn't wipe the smile off his face when Kurt hugged his arm a little, leaning his head on his shoulder and holding his hand a little tighter. He looked down to see that Kurt was smiling just as widely, his heart fluttering a little at the sight. When they reached the front of the line and Blaine was ordering their tickets he turned to Kurt to ask him if he wanted popcorn or anything and burst out laughing at the facial expression Kurt pulled, eliciting strange looks from everyone in the cinema and a nudge from Kurt.
“What's wrong with popcorn?” Blaine asked with a laugh as they walked off, hand in hand.
A little giggle bubbled from Kurt's throat as he pulled his phone out and typed something into notes so that he could reply to Blaine.
So not romantic, Blaine!
“Okay, okay,” Blaine laughed, “Fair enough.”
Kurt let out another giggle, putting his phone away and following Blaine to their seats. Almost instantly, Kurt pulled his knees up and snuggled up to Blaine.
“You okay?” Blaine asked, not sure if Kurt was putting one of his barriers up now that they were actually in the theatre.
Kurt turned his head so that his chin was resting on Blaine's shoulder and smiled, pulling his phone out and typing out a message before showing it to Blaine.
Yup. Just making myself comfy :)
Blaine chuckled, pressing a kiss to Kurt's head. “You're adorable.”
Kurt smiled a little and blushed, resting his cheek back against Blaine's shoulder where he happily stayed for the entire duration. Once the movie was over, Blaine led Kurt back to the car to retrieve the picnic basket before taking his hand and walking with him to the park in a comfortable silence.
Spreading the blanket across the grass in the park, Kurt and Blaine sat opposite each other and began eating their food underneath the star-filled sky.
“I'm really glad you said yes to this,” Blaine said earnestly, picking a grape from its branch. “I know that you're kind of insecure about not being able to speak and…being here is scary for you but it means a lot to me that you…you trust me.”
Kurt smiled, opening his mouth for a few moments before closing it and frowning, staring down at the ground.
“What's wrong?”
Kurt sighed, reaching for his phone and typing out a message before handing it to Blaine.
I just wish I could talk to you now more than ever.
“Hey,” Blaine said, smiling sadly as he placed Kurt's phone aside and crawled closer, cupping his cheek gently and caressing it with his thumb. “You know I don't care if you never speak to me. You are not your voice,” He said softly, bringing his hand up to card his fingers through Kurt's hair, ignoring the fact that he might throw a fit about it. “Besides, speaking is overrated.” Blaine finished with a smile, eliciting a small laugh from Kurt.
“You're perfect to me.” Blaine said honestly, staring into Kurt's eyes as his heart pounded against his chest.
Ever so slowly, Blaine leaned forwards, giving Kurt the option to pull away if he wanted to. However, Kurt didn't pull away – he knelt up a little bit to meet Blaine halfway, their lips slowly pressing against each other.
Blaine slowly pulled away and laughed slightly, never removing his hand from Kurt's cheek. “I'm pretty sure we did this backwards…aren't we supposed to make out at the movies?”
Kurt laughed, pushing Blaine backwards playfully before crawling forwards and wrapping his arms around the other teens' neck, enveloping him in a hug. Blaine smiled and wrapped his arms around Kurt's waist, smoothing one of his hands over his back.
Kurt pulled back and smiled, pressing a kiss to Blaine's cheek happily before sitting normally once again. Looking up at the sky momentarily, Blaine was struck with an idea.
“Come here,” He said, scooting to the edge of the blanket and lying down, opening his arms for Kurt. The chestnut haired teen looked at him confusedly for a few moments before lying down too; his head on Blaine's chest. Blaine looked down to see that Kurt was staring at his hand where he'd begun to draw patterns on Blaine's stomach with his fingers. “Look.” Blaine said, pointing to the sky with one hand, his other arm wrapping around Kurt.
Kurt looked up at the pitch black sky that was covered with millions of tiny stars and smiled. He turned to Blaine with an adorable grin on his face and pressed a small kiss to lips before returning to his original position, staring up at the night sky.
The two boys stayed there until Kurt let out an inhuman yawn, pressing his face into Blaine's shirt and hugging him tighter.
“We should probably go,” Blaine said, rubbing Kurt's back as the two of them sat up. Once sitting, Kurt let out another yawn, stretching his arms out as Blaine smiled at him. Kurt raised his eyebrow confusedly and Blaine reached up and ran his fingers through his soft hair. “You're so cute.”
Kurt whined in embarrassment, hiding his face in his hands until Blaine pried them away and kissed him softly before pulling him up and beginning to pack everything away.
Once they reached Kurt's house, the two boys kissed until Burt came out onto the porch and threatened to freeze Blaine's lips off – causing both boys to laugh and blush.
“I think that's my queue to leave.” Blaine laughed.
Kurt nodded a little, leaning forward to press one last kiss to Blaine's lips.
“Ahem,” Burt said instantly, eliciting Kurt to pull away and shake his head with silent laughter.
Once Blaine's car was out of sight Kurt followed his dad inside, wishing he wasn't wearing an amused grin.
“I'm assuming your date went well?” Burt teased. Kurt groaned, flushing red. “Hey, I'm just teasing. I'm glad you had fun.”
Kurt smiled up at his dad, accepting the half hug and the kiss to his forehead. “Go get some sleep, you look exhausted.”
Kurt nodded, making his way upstairs to bed and smiling to himself.
