Blaine Anderson was in love.
Not the kind that society tended to carelessly throw around. Not the kind that he would see people so very distastefully using and declaring left, right and centre that they were in love, when in fact, it was mere infactuation. Blaine had seen far too many romantic movies to tell the full-on from the fake. Oh, the times he'd sat and watched, box of tissues balancing precariously on the arm of the couch while a forlorn and long forgotten bowl of popcorn lay in his lap.
No, this was it.
This was the real thing.
He'd have never believed it possible, not so fast. The day had been nothing out of the ordinary. All it had taken was a simple tap on the shoulder, a turn of his head, and it was like he'd been met with the face of an angel. The blue-est eyes, chestnut hair styled to perfection, and the most flawless marble skin. Blaine had always thought that love at first sight was a wonderful fairytale, and nothing more than that, but this boy was here to prove him wrong, it seemed.
Their friendship had blossomed as the new boy found his place at Dalton, Blaine not quite sure what he was getting himself into, but allowing himself to go with the flow. He liked how the new boy made him feel. It was like nothing he'd ever experienced before, as if the simple brush of blazer or glimpse of eye contact could send him into a complete tizzy, his mind drawing blank and a warm smile always crossing his lips. He wasn't labelling their relationship as anything serious, not at this stage. But Blaine would be lying if he said he wasn't thoroughly intrigued by this angel that had descended upon him and made such a change so soon.
They hit bumps. Hurdles. Obstacles. It was bound to happen, wasn't it? Blaine was no stranger to the rough patches in relationships. Having allow himself believe that he could never be so lucky to ever acquire someone as such as his angel as a boyfriend, Blaine had let his affections wander, and he'd been met with nothing but the feeling of guilt and rejection on the other side of the metaphorical tunnel. It stung, how sharply his hopes had fallen. How his angel had almost been quick to kick him while he was down, confessing his own sky high wishes. If anything had been learnt, for the both of them, it was that Blaine wasn't the best at romance.
Looking back, it was funny. Funny how the death of a bird, the ending of an era, brought around the birth of a relationship, a realisation, the beginning of a new one. It had hit Blaine like a tonne of bricks, hearing his angel's voice and watching him sing, the invisible blindfold being lifted off his eyes. Maybe it wasn't so impossible after all, for this to happen. For him and his angel to be one. His heart just seemed to flutter in pure joy as Blaine came to his senses, came to see that maybe it actually could happen. Maybe he was allowed to have his happy ending.
Their kiss had been like nothing Blaine could ever describe without stopping and smiling to himself. It was sweet, and pure, and tender, and the stuff that he was positive his dreams were made of. His stomach may have churned and flipped and threatened to relieve itself of its contents a couple of times, due to his own irrelevant nerves and usual excited nature, but this was something else. This was like dancing between the moon and the stars and if it were possible, Blaine would never have detached himself. The kiss, however, was nothing compared to the feeling of walking down the hallways of Dalton to his next class, holding hands and fingers laced, shoulder brushing against his angel. His boyfriend.
Singing with him was a whole other thing entirely. Blaine had sung a few duets with his angel before, but it had never had the same connection, not like the one he felt so strongly up on that stage at Regionals. It was like everything around them just completely melted away, leaving only him and his blue eyed boyfriend on stage, singing their hearts out and being pulled together by invisible magnets. The chemistry between them was a given, Blaine couldn't ignore that, and he still couldn't believe that this boy was his. That he was the one who got to hold his hand, and hug him, and press sweet little kisses to his lips between classes. It was like an entire dream come true, and in all honesty? Blaine was afraid he was going to wake up. That one day his eyes would just snap open, and his angel? He would be a mere figment of his imagination.
Blaine had seen it coming, when he wanted to transfer back to his old school, McKinley. He'd noticed his angel gazing out of the window during class, or not paying full attention, and even telling little stories about his friends there and dropping a comment on how he missed them. Blaine was empathetic - he understood that while his boyfriend was happy at Dalton, it wasn't his home. It wasn't where he felt he fully belonged. When the time came to say goodbye to his angel, Blaine hardly held back the tears. It wasn't going to be easy, keeping up a long distance relationship where they didn't see each other every day, but he was determined to put in the effort and make it work. Because he was special. His angel was like no-one else and he was worth the moon and the stars to Blaine already.
They didn't break contact. They saw each other after school, and on the weekends, and even met up at the Lima Bean for coffee every few lunch hours a week or so. Everything was just running so smoothly, Blaine unable to find fault even if he wished to and still in complete and utter awe of his angel. He really was something to behold. Blaine would just feel so incredibly proud to hold his hand, to walk side by side next to him and just be seen with his angel. They were the perfect match, balancing out each other's cons - even though Blaine was convinced his boyfriend had none at all - and their personalites just slotting together like two puzzle pieces. In all his entire life, Blaine had never even thought that he would ever be so lucky as to have someone like his angel.
And the best part? Carson loved him, too.
