“Blaine, you’re being ridiculous!” cried Kurt, throwing his hands on his hips.

“It’s my hair, Kurt! I can do what I want with it!”

This argument had happened far too many times, in Kurt’s opinion. He and Blaine were sitting in the living room of the Hummel household, discussing the new school year and New Directions when somehow his hair came up. The two boys had been a couple for a while now, and Blaine still refused to leave out his gel for one day. Kurt was going insane from his curiosity

“Kurt, I just don’t want you to see it, okay?”

“Are you afraid I’m going to see your hair and run away screaming or something? Blaine, it’s hair, it’s not about to be the deciding factor in our relationship” Kurt reasoned, but Blaine just used this as fuel.

“Exactly, so I don’t see why we’re still having this discussion. It’s just hair, Kurt, so you shouldn’t be getting so worked up over this, it’s not important to us!”

Now Kurt was the one being revved up. Kurt was a natural competitor, and he loved nothing more than a challenge, and that’s exactly what he saw here. "Fine, Blaine. If that’s the way it’s going to have to be, then so be it.”

Blaine wore a confused expression; he was lost as to what just happened. “Wait…what?” Kurt smirked.

“You and I are on pause until you decide to let me see what’s hiding underneath of that gallon of product.”

Blaine froze. What was a pause? What does a pause entitle? He voiced these questions aloud. “A pause, Blaine, means that there is no mushy boyfriend stuff between us. No kissing, no touching, no cuddling…”
Oh, no… thought Blaine. He loved the cuddling, that was what was going to screw him over here. “I guess,” continued Kurt, “the only thing I might allow is hand holding. That’s it.”

“C’mon, Kurt that’s no fair…” he whined, Blaine was starting to become more and more afraid of this contest, and also afraid of the idea of actually revealing his disastrous hair to Kurt. Blaine moved forward to rest his hand on Kurt’s cheek, but the older boy pulled away too quickly.

“No-no-no! Unless you plan on allowing me to take you upstairs and rinse your hair right here and now- there will be none of that.”Blaine really considered this option for a moment, but the more he thought about it, the more he wanted to rebel and see how this would go. He was almost positive that in less than two days, he will have cracked Kurt and have him all over him with love. He knew as well as any how precious all of their “mushy acts” were to the chestnut haired boy.

“No way, babe… you are not seeing these locks all natural…” confirmed Blaine, taking a step backwards when Kurt went to touch his hair. “Plus, Kurt, no romance for me means the same for you… and it seems to me that lately you’ve gotten pretty used to the whole boyfriend act. I think you’ll be the one getting lonely and needing me.”

Kurt cocked an eyebrow at this one. He cannot be serious, Kurt thought, there is no way in heaven or hell that I’m giving up on this case. Lady Gaga will have stepped onto the red carpet wearing a hoodie, sweatpants and converse before I cave in.

“Maybe you forgot, Blaine, but I was the only gay guy out of the closet at McKinley up until yesterday. I’m fully able to go a few days without contact and romance. You, however, we not so fortunate. Tons of guys at Dalton, and there was at least one other gay boy at your public school. You, my dear, will have no chance.” Blaine pursed his lips. As much as he hated to admit it, he was right. Kurt would never crack. “In fact,” laughed Kurt, “I bet you couldn’t last a week without our relationship at this point, face it- you’re too attached to me.” Kurt was smiling, evilly.

“I so can!” argued Blaine, mocking anger.

“Well, Anderson… why don’t we make this a bit more interesting? If you can last a week without kissing, touching, cuddling (Ugh… thought Blaine) flirting, and hand holding- I won’t touch your hair and you can do whatever you want with it. However, when you lose, which you will, those black hairs of yours stay down and free for… let’s say a month.” Kurt smirked, not only would he get to see what Blaine was keeping tucked away there, but he would also get to torture him like that for weeks.

Meanwhile, Blaine wasn’t looking as positive. Blaine hated his hair, hated it. Was he really about to risk dealing with something he viewed as so repulsive for a whole month?

“Not even flirting?” asked Blaine, desperate for something.

“Nuh-uh. You don’t get to flirt with me.”

Blaine considered all of this for a good minute, and swallowed hard before reaching his hand out. This was no longer just about his hair (well, most of it was) but also about his integrity as a man. Blaine Anderson doesn’t need his boyfriend to be there every moment of his life- he’s his own person.

“You’ve got yourself a deal, Hummel.”

Kurt took a deep breath and held out his hand, “Get ready to let down those locks, Rapunzel.”

End Notes: Lemme know what you think, more to come!
