Were you confused because of the last chapter events?.. I read your reviews and it made me so excited to write this chapter.. hehehe..
"Shit! Shit! Shit!" Blaine cursed as he thumped his head on the elevators wall. "Why do I always have to fuck things up?" he asked, frustrated. He shouldnt have imagined Andre as Pickles; he should have shut his fucking mouth, and not reminded Kurt and himself about their dead child. He should really stop hoping that he and Kurt can start a family again.
He should have, but he just couldnt help imagining how his life would have been if Pickles had survived.
The ding of the elevator made him stop banging his head repeatedly, indicating that he had arrived on Kurts floor which is just three floors lower than his. One thing he learned from the last five years was that he should not waste any moment telling the people he cared about how sorry he was. He made that mistake with Kurt; he had waited until Cooper helped him stand up for his mistakes; he waited not knowing that it would have taken him years to see Kurt again and apologize to him. So this time, he did not need his brother to make him realize how stupid his action was, he knew what he did and he would try to make amends with Kurt once again.
The elevator opened and he immediately searched for Kurts room number. Just like all other apartments in the building, Kurts room has its own individual doorbell. He pressed the bell and patiently waited for Kurt to open the door.
Blaine heard a muffled shout inside the room, and moments later the door was opened, showing a tired and disheveled Kurt.
"Blaine? What are you doing here?" Kurt asked with loopy eyes, fingers pressed hardly on his temple as he leaned one side of his body on the doorway.
"I-I came here to apologize." Blaine started, but he was distracted by Kurts physical and couldnt help but be worried about the pale man who became paler than his original color. "Are you sick?"
"Urghh... I think I caught a virus while I was in the hospital." Kurt replied and heaved a dry cough.
Without any hesitation, Blaine used the back of his hands to measure Kurts temperature by putting it on the crook of Kurts neck. "Kurt, youre burning up!" Blaine exclaimed and pushed Kurt lightly back into the apartment, so that Kurt wont feel the chill in the hallway.
"Have you taken some medicine?" Blaine asked.
The virus had clouded Kurts judgment, so he had no qualms when Blaine had touched him. "No, not yet. I just put Andre to sleep," Kurt replied roughly.
"Wheres your room?"
"Excuse me." Kurt wanted to sound his disbelief, but the hoarseness of his voice made it impossible.
"You need to rest, Kurt. Let me take care of you," Blaine pleaded. He knew he shouldnt feel glad that Kurt was sick, but having the opportunity to take care of Kurt again just like when he was pregnant with Pickles was a big deal for him.
"I really think thats a bad idea," Kurt protested and turned his back to Blaine. "Im fine Blaine, you should just go..." But when he staggered in his steps and Blaine caught him, Kurt agreed to Blaines idea. "My room is over there," Kurt pointed to a wooden door at the other end of the hallway.
Blaine put his left hand on Kurts back and guided him towards his room. Blaine didnt have the time to admire Kurts room because his mind was reeling at the idea that HE IS INSIDE KURTS ROOM. Thats progress, he mused.
Blaine gently laid Kurt on the queen sized bed and covered him with the comforter. "Wait for a minute," Blaine said and then went outside the room, searching for and finding the bathroom. He opened the medicine cabinet to look for cold medicine and a thermometer, and then he proceeded to go to the kitchen to get a cup of warm water. Once he had the things he needed, he quickly went back to Kurts room.
He opened the door gently, and paused for a moment to admire Kurts sleeping figure. He walked towards him and emptied his hands by placing the things he gathered on the nightstand next to Kurts bed. Blaine then sat at the small space on the edge of the bed and slowly lifted Kurts upper body, so that Kurts back would rest on his chest.
"Shh... its okay," Blaine comforted Kurt when he heard the latter grunting. "You have to drink your medicine, baby," Blaine couldnt help the term of endearment coming out from his mouth. He was taking advantage of Kurts situation because he knew Kurt wouldnt even remember this in the morning. Last one... Just let me have this moment with him, Blaine cried in his thoughts.
Blaine cradled Kurts jaw and gently pushed it open. He put one capsule in Kurts mouth, and then he shivered when his thumb was slightly grazed on Kurts teeth, and then with his other hand he grabbed the cup of water on the nightstand to help Kurt swallow the medicine he just took.
Blaine exchanged the cup of water with a thermometer, and then opened Kurts mouth again. "Under your tongue baby," Blaine quietly instructed and put the thermometer inside Kurts mouth. He rocked Kurt gently, humming a few notes, as he waited for the annoying beep of the thermometer. When he heard the sound, he softly popped the instrument from Kurts mouth and checked for his temperature.
"You have a mild fever, Baby," Blaine concluded and he once more laid Kurt on the bed. Going outside of the room to go to the bathroom again, he searched the sink cabinet for a clean cloth. He poured isopropyl alcohol he found in the medicine cabinet on the white cloth and squeezed it slightly to remove the excess liquid.
Going back to Kurts room carrying a basin with the cloth in it, he placed it beside Kurts head, and removed the blanket he covered Kurt with earlier. "Shh... Im just going to clean you up," Blaine said as he rubbed Kurts forehead with his thumb when Kurt shivered from not having the blanket on him anymore. Blaine then knelt beside Kurt and began unbuttoning his dress shirt.
"Hmmm... Blaine... what are you doing?" Kurt complained a little, with one eye trying to open. His body still felt heavy because of the infection he contracted earlier in the hospital. He halted Blaines action by grabbing the hand which was currently undoing his buttons.
"You have to change clothes... it still has the germs from the hospital," Blaine answered, gently removing Kurts hand from his.
"Its okay... it wont matter."
"I need to get rid of the germs on your skin, or Andre might be infected with your fever," Blaine protested and then he smiled lightly when Kurt slumped down to the bed and gave an affirming sound to let him continue cleaning his body.
Blaine nervously continued to open the shirt, and he paused for a moment, mesmerized by the beauty that Kurt still held. He wanted to touch him and kiss him then and there. He wanted to ask why he didnt wait for him, why did he leave him alone? There were questions that still haunted him; questions that he didnt dare to ask because he knew it would put a strain on the relationship which they now have; questions he knew would break him if he heard Kurts answer.
He let a tear fall before he continued removing Kurts upper garment and then carefully wiped the damp cloth over Kurts sleeping body. Once he was finished with Kurts torso, he proceeded to clean his lower half; he swallowed his saliva as he tried to think of unsexy thoughts as he unbuttoned Kurts pants, but leaving the boxers on. That is just the border line for being a perverted asshole if I also remove his boxers. He berated himself.
Unlike with the cleaning of Kurts upper body, he hurriedly cleanse Kurts lower body; afraid that he would pop a boner with the image of an almost naked Kurt. He then quickly but gently wiped Kurts creamy white legs and thighs, careful not to graze Kurts intimate parts.
Blaine walked to Kurts closet and grabbed a pair of pyjamas and came back to his previous position on the bed to help Kurt dress in his night wear. He covered Kurt again with the thick blanket and tucked him in. Blaine felt like he was the vampire from the movie he had watched in high school before, for watching the love of your life sleep soundlessly. He knew what he was doing was creepy, but he wanted to remember the image of a peaceful and serene Kurt in his mind; not the hurt expression that Kurt had the last time they saw each other five years ago when he almost raped him.
He put a stray hair behind Kurts ears and leaned forward to kiss his forehead. "I love you," Blaine whispered. That was the last, I may not stop loving him, but Ill give up on the idea of being together with him, I wont be a home wrecker and destroyed Kurts new family. Blaine promised to himself and stood up from his position to exit Kurts room. He closed the door behind him, screwed his eyes shut as he let some of the tears to drop from his eyes, and slid his body down on Kurts door.
Blaines musing was disturbed by a lovely voice he was very familiar with, a voice that his mind said he should hate because he was one of the reasons that he couldnt get Kurt back, but his heart told him otherwise.
"Mr. Bowtie?" Andre asked tiredly as he scratched his eyes with the back of his hand. The little boy was wearing a yellow tiger onesie with the hood-the tigers mouth-became its night cap.
"Andre... Why are you still up?" he asked as he discreetly wiped his tears from his cheeks, and knelt in front of the cute little boy.
Instead of answering Blaine, Andre grabbed Blaines hand and dragged him to the kitchen. He let go of the short man so that he could pry open the refrigerator door with his two tiny hands.
Blaine just stood in the kitchen awkwardly; waiting for Andre to find what he was looking for. Finally, after a few minutes of disgruntled sounds, Andre emerged from the refrigerator and gently closed it. He walked towards Blaine with his hands behind his back so that Blaine wont see his gift.
"This is for you, Mr. Bowties," Andre then thrust a jar of pickles at Blaine when the man crouched down to his level. "So dont be sad again, okay?"
"Wha-what?" Blaine asked; perplexed why the boy would give him such gift.
"Because you said you love pickles, and I thought that eating pickles will make the boo-boo in your eyes fly fly away," Andre reasoned out and touched Blaines cheeks which are still slightly damp from his tears.
Fuck! You see what Im dealing here. How can I hate such a lovable and innocent child? Blaine thought woefully, trying really hard not to cry in front of the kid. "Come on here, you little tiger," Blaine chuckled instead and lifted Andre in his arms after putting the jar on the top of the kitchen counter. "Thank you, Andre, but I was referring to another Pickles," Blaine explained as he carried the little boy back to his room. "Come on, you have to go to sleep now."
When Blaine opened Andres door, the little boy tightened the embrace he had on Blaines neck and buried his face on Blaines shoulder. "I dont want to sleep. I want Papa... Papa makes monster under the bed go away," Andre cried and shook his head fervently.
"Shh... there there, baby tiger, you cant go to Papa now because he is sick," Blaine informed the little boy as he patted his head.
"Papa is sick?" Andre asked worriedly, and snapped his head to face Blaine properly. "Did you give Papa his clock?"
"Uhmm... no, sorry, I forgot about that..." Blaine apologized. "... but if you sleep now, Ill go back to Papas room and gave him his clock so hell heal faster, and then you can sleep beside him again if the monsters wont still go away, okay?" Blaine compromised when he felt Andre tried to wiggle out from his embrace.
"Okay," Andre agreed, and let Blaine rock him in his arms. "Mr. Bowtie?" Andre asked, cheek still pressed on Blaines shoulder.
"Hmm?"
"You dont like my gift?" Andre asked curiously.
"No, baby, I love your gift," Blaine answered with agitation, hating the sound of sadness in Andres voice.
"Then why didnt you eat some pickles?" Andre asked and used his hands to push on Blaines shoulder to part their bodies, so that he could look at him in the eyes.
"Uhmm... when I said I love pickles, I was referring to my Pickles," Blaine explained as he looked at Andres eyes, which he now discovered is a splash of grayish green colors, but it becomes greenish blue or greenish brown if you look at the boy in different angles. "My Pickles is not a vegetable, he is a person."
"Where is your Pickles now?"
"I...uhmm... Pickles is gone," Blaine admitted sadly; unsure if it was proper to share death stories with a four year old.
"Is that why you always cry? ...because you wont see your Pickles anymore?" Andre probed more, not knowing how this conversation made Blaines heart clench every time they uttered his childs name.
"...Yeah." Blaine answered truthfully and pushed Andres head to his shoulders; hinting that they should stop this talk and before he became a nervous wreck in front of the boy; he then continued rocking Andre to sleep.
Andre let out a long yawn; breaking the silence in the room and asked Blaine again. "Can I be your Pickles?" Andre asked tiredly, making the short man still his actions. "...so you wont be sad again."
I would love to. Would have been Blaines answer, if there are no constraints restricting this kind of relationship with the boy, Blaine would have said yes, but then...
Andre was Kurt and Adams son.
Pickles was his child with Kurt, and no one could ever replace the beautiful being that he and Kurt had created. Even if it was just an accident at first, Pickles was still Blaine and Kurts most beautiful mistake.
"I dont really think your Papa Kurt and your Daddy Adam would appreciate me calling you Pickles," Blaine gently rejected Andres offer to be Pickles, even though he knew that the boy didnt know that Pickles was his dead child.
"Hes not," Andres clipped answer was preceded by a long yawn.
"Who is not what?" Blaine questioned Andre, but the boy in his arms only answered him with a light snore.
He chuckled at the boy, and his question about Andres answer had been forgotten as he continued rocking the toddler to sleep.
Kurt was awoken by the blinding light that passed through his closed eyelids. He stretched his arms above his head as he let a loud yawn. Then he realized that instead of feeling sick and tired, Kurt felt light and energetic. He was confused for a moment, but when he glanced at the nightstand next to his bed and saw the bottle of medicine there, memories of last evening had slowly crept to his mind. His memories were still a little bit foggy but he still remembered how Blaine fed him the medicine, changed his clothes, and took care of him.
He blushed profusely when he stood up from his bed, and saw the neatly folded dirty clothes on a recliner in the corner of his room. He went out of his room, and part of his morning routine after waking up was to check up on his son. As he padded to Andres room, he made a mental checklist to thank Blaine later for last night.
Or I can thank him right now. Kurt thought when he opened Andres door and saw Blaine laid on his sons bed, while his sons body was lying half on top of his ex-husband; his little arm draped over Blaines stomach, and his face resting on the mans chest.
Kurts heart skipped a beat as he stared at the image in front of him, and as he thought of how Blaine and Andre were getting closer; the budding friendship between Blaine and Andre made Kurt really uncomfortable.
He didnt want them to have that kind of bond, not when he and his son would have to leave the states for Paris in a couple of weeks; he was adamant he wouldnt stay here longer than one month, and he sure as hell knew that it would break Andres heart to not see his newly found friend for a long period of time.
This is so wrong in so many ways! Kurt thought, glancing at the clock that said 10 am, and decided that it was time for them to wake up. He silently trudged forward so he could rouse the two sleeping boys. He crouched down to their level, and gently shook his sons shoulder. "Dre, baby... wake up sleepy head." Kurt cooed and watched as Andre and Blaine started waking up by his high-pitched voice.
"Papa!" Andre exclaimed and threw his arms around Kurts neck making Blaines body catch all of Andres weight. "Youre not sick anymore?" The little boy asked excitedly.
"All healthy now!" Kurt replied as he stood up and lifted Andre in the process. "Thank you, Blaine," Kurt said to the curly haired man who was now situated on the edge of Andres bed.
"Youre welcome," Blaine said shyly and cleared his throat. "Im sorry about sleeping here. I might have fallen asleep when I was trying to make Andre fall asleep again."
Kurt just nodded in understanding. He turned his head back to his child and instructed him to go to the bathroom and brush his teeth. Once they were alone, Kurt turned to Blaine.
"Thank you again for last night," Kurt said sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"Its nothing really. Are you really alright now?" Blaine asked worriedly.
"Yeah, Im fine... I think its just a 24-hour bug or something."
There was a moment of awkwardness between them before Blaine remembered his sole purpose of going to Kurts. "Im so sorry about yesterday. I shouldnt have called Andre, Pickles. Im really and truly sorry about that," Blaine just apologized; he didnt dare explain why he had said those things because he was also confused. Maybe he felt an adrenaline rush because other people think of them as a family, and he cant help letting himself be indulged for a second in the domesticity of their goodbyes.
"I know... but please dont do that again. Its making me really uncomfortable," Kurt said truthfully while rubbing his arm.
"I promise," Blaine swore, and then the kids door room opened abruptly causing the two adult heads to snap in its direction.
"Papa!" Andre shouted and ran towards Kurt, who automatically lifted him up. "Papa! Papa! Guess what?"
"What?" Kurt asked curiously.
"Its Tuesday!" Andre exclaimed, and Kurt immediately knew what Andre was talking about because the pale man just repeated Andres words giddily.
"Whats with Tuesday?" Blaine couldnt help but be curious why Andre was excited for such a normal day.
Andre looked quite offended - which Blaine and Kurt thought was cute-that Blaine didnt know what Tuesday meant, but he still answered him nonetheless. "Tuesday is when Dadam will be here with us!"
"Oh..." was Blaines only reply.
Blaine watched as the little girl in the bright yellow dress run around the Chuck E Cheese restaurant. This kind of environment wasnt really his taste, but being an uncle to a four-year old girl can change his perception.
"Hey Squirt, you okay?" Cooper asked his brother who was intently watching his daughter. Jenna had finally gotten pregnant, At first, they didnt want to share the good news about the pregnancy with Blaine, thinking that it might damage him more, but Blaine had surprised them by being happy and supportive of the new life added to their family. Blaine was there in every first baby step that Keya took, spoiling her in every possible way.
Blaine turned his head back to the table where his brother and sister-in-law are snuggling. "Uh... yeah..." Blaine nodded. "Thanks for the distraction Coop. I really needed this."
"Anytime bro," Cooper replied and patted Blaines arm. "So now tell me why you needed a distraction. Did something happen again between you and Kurt?"
"Uh... no no no..." he denied. "Everything with us is fine... well I think everything is fine. I just really need to take my mind off of him for a minute or I think I might have exploded," Blaine admitted without shame.
Jenna held Blaines hand which was resting on the top of the table, conveying silently that they would always be here for him.
Blaine gave her a little smile and mouthed a thank you to her. "Its just that... I-I really wanted to talk to him, but he is always busy with Andre and Adam. They are always going outside, so he really hasnt had the time to stay for five minutes and just have a little chat with me."
At this point, he began rambling about Kurt, but Cooper and Jenna still listened to him. It had been a long time since Blaine had talked this long, he was always so clipped in replying, except when he was with Keya or when he was crying over his husband and child, but otherwise, Blaine always remained silent.
"And I really cant talk to him during business hours because that is so unprofessional, and you dont know how strict he is with business matters." Blaine let out a sigh as he remembered how stunning Kurt looked when he was being so authoritative and controlling. Okay... bad thoughts Anderson, dont go there. Its time for you to start not loving Kurt Hummel.
He then continued his explanations to Cooper. "I really thought we could start rebuilding our friendship during his stay here in New York, but its like he is avoiding me and I also rarely see Andre in the day care for the past week."
Cooper didnt immediately give Blaine any brotherly advice because his eyes were drawn to the couple who had just entered the restaurant. This is bad. he thought when he saw Kurt, Adam and Andre talking to the hostess. This is fucking bad. he thought again when Andre approached his daughter giddily and they started talking animatedly. Mother fucker, this is so bad. he cursed in his mind as he watched his daughter drag Andre towards their table, with Adam and Kurt in tow.
"Daddy! Mommy!" Keya shouted as he run towards her parents. "Meet my new best friend, Andre," Keya introduced him to his parents. "Andre, this is my mom, my dad and of course you know my Uncle Blaine," Keya said while pointing at each person.
"Hello!" Andre waved giddily at Keyas parents. "Mr. Bowtie!" Andre shouted and run around the table to Blaine and leaped onto his lap. "I miss you so much!" The boy said as he wound his arms around Blaines neck and squeezed it.
"I miss you too, buddy," Blaine chuckled and let down Andre when he saw Adam and Kurt approaching their table. "Hi!" He greeted them. So much for distraction. Blaine thought woefully as he eyed the grip of Adams hand on Kurts waist.
"Daddy! Daddy! Can Andre sit at our table?" Keya asked pitifully and used her puppy dog eyes that she knew that no one can resist.
"Yeah! Papa! Dadam! I miss Keya and Bowties! Can we eat with them?" Andre asked excitedly as he run towards them, knowing that Papa and Dadam wouldnt deny him because he had been a good boy for the whole day.
"Yeah... yeah... okay," Cooper nodded when Blaine jerked his head slightly as an agreement. "If its okay with Kurt and Adam," he asked the other couple.
"Yeah sure no problem." It was Adam who answered and leaned on Kurts ear to whisper something in French, and when Kurt nodded his head, Adam lifted his hand up and gestured for a waiter to come to them. "Could you put an extra table and chairs here?" Adam instructed, and the staff of the restaurant hurriedly did what he was ordered to do.
The tables arrangement was supposed to be the Andersons seated across the table facing the Hummels, but the two toddlers cried that they wanted to sit beside each other, so they had rearranged for Keya and Andre to be seated next to each other at the end of the table. Jenna seated adjacently to her daughter and beside her is her husband, while Blaine was seated across the other side of the table, next to Andre and beside Kurt, and Adam was seated on the other end of the table, adjacently seated to Cooper and Kurt.
Kurt was reluctant when he wasnt seated next to his son, but when Blaine quietly assured him that hell take care of Andre, he automatically agreed with him. He shouldve said no, knowing how much Andre and Blaine were getting attached to each other, but somehow he couldnt refuse Blaines silent pleading to not be seated next to Adam. Kurt didnt even know how he understood Blaines mind with just one look. Oh God! Its starting over again. I need to stop this kind of thoughts towards him, he reminded himself.
On June 21, 2027, at exactly 7:30 in the evening, the most awkward dinner that could be documented in the Guinness Book of World Records had commenced.
It was fairly innocent at first, Jenna and Cooper talking to Adam and Kurt about Paris, and Blaine kept busy handling the kids. Blaine knew what their conversation was about, but he didnt have the guts to join them entirely, so he focused his attention to the toddlers beside him as they waited for their food to arrive.
Kurt was busy catching up with Cooper and Jenna; he didnt deny to himself that he missed them. He knew from a small conversation with Cooper a week ago that he finally had a child and he was happy for him. He was surprised that the Keya that Andre was talking about who he had met at the day care center last week was also Cooper and Jennas daughter. He kept chatting with the couple, but he couldnt help but steal glances at Blaine and the toddlers. He watched as Blaine told the kids funny stories, making them laugh hilariously, and watched Blaine as he spoon fed Andre the lasagna he ordered whilst his son continued talking to Keya who was also being fed by Jenna. He watched him curiously and couldnt help but point out the change in Blaine. How could the man who didnt want Pickles before be so good with children now? He thought to himself.
"Youre really good with children," Kurt blurted his thoughts aloud, making the other occupants at the table halt their conversation.
Blaine was in the middle of wiping the red sauce from the corner of Andres mouth when he heard Kurts compliment about him. He glanced at the pale man who now had spluttered in his seat, also being surprised why he had complimented his ex-husband. "Thank you, Kurt," Blaine said bashfully and ducked his head downward, so no one, especially Adam and Kurt, would see the grin on his face.
It was Keya who shouted something that made the dinner more awkward. "Kurt?" She shouted her question like she was trying to remember where she had heard that name before, and then she suddenly remembered. "Kurt! Youre Prince Kurt! Youre Uncle Blaines Kurt!" she shouted excitedly and kept repeating it, making all the adults freeze in their seats, not knowing how they should stop the girls mouth.
"Prince Kurt! Prince Kurt! Youre back! Youre back to save Uncle Blaine!" she said giddily and chanted Prince Kurt over and over again, and then of course Andre mimicked her and joined him in chanting the new nickname he had for his papa.
"Oh my god!" Blaine whispered disbelievingly. He forgot how he told those made up bed time stories to his niece before. It was only meant to entertain her, and not make things more awkward between him and Kurt. Blaine didnt dare look at Kurt, but he could sense that the man beside him had tensed when Keya vocalized about him being his prince. Blaine then leaned forward over the table and tried shushing his niece. "Shh.., Keya... okay... hes here now, but please eat your food first," Blaine begged her favorite niece.
"But your prince is here, Uncle Blaine. Shouldnt you be kissing him and telling him that you lo-"Thank god for Jenna for covering her daughters mouth in time.
"Okay sweetie... we got that, but eat your meal first," Jenna told her daughter, and fed her pasta before her daughter said something that would make the situation worse for her brother-in-law.
But then, it was now Andre who didnt shut his mouth. "Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!" he chanted, head turned towards Keya, asking for her approval so that he could continue her chant. He grinned when Keya lifted her thumbs up while still chewing the food that her mom put inside her mouth.
"Shh... Andre... please, please eat your food," Blaine begged for the toddler to stop making this dinner become another nightmare for him. He could feel Adams and Kurts eyes on him, but he still didnt look at them, knowing that they are giving him death glares.
"Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!" Andre continued to chant, pleased with himself that it was making Keya laugh.
It was Adam who satisfied Andres needs by leaning over to Kurt and grabbed the back of the pale mans neck and kissed him hard on his lips. He then leaned back immediately to his chair when he heard Andre shout Yay! Kisses!
The kiss that Adam had given to Kurt made the latter wake up from his incredulous stare at Blaine, and look helplessly at Adam. The British man placed his hand on top of Kurts and murmured something in his ear, and it made the tension in Kurts body to go away.
"Aw! No! I want Prince Kurt and Uncle Blaine-"Fortunately for all the adults, Keyas words were interrupted when the waiter arrived at their table to serve their desserts. The waiter placed small bowls of fruit salad for every person at the table and placed the big bowl at the center of the table, so if they could refill their bowls if they wanted another serving of fruit.
Blaine, who had been dying of embarrassment and heartache, wanted to distract himself from thinking about the kiss that Kurt and Adam shared earlier. He was not ready to see that, or better yet, he would never be ready to see Kurt loving another man. He fiddled with the spoon in his bowl, and unconsciously brought it to his lips so he could feed himself with the fruit salad.
"Blaine stop!" Kurt grabbed Blaines hand that held the spoonful of fruits. "It has cherries in it," Kurt informed him in a matter of fact way, ignoring the tingle he was feeling when his hand had touched Blaines.
It was then that Blaine had noticed the little red ball of fruit in his spoon. "... that was close." He muttered, and then blushed at the idea that Kurt still knew that he was allergic to cherries. He wouldnt deny that it made a summersault in his stomach when he glanced at Kurt and said thank you to him.
He was still reeling with the idea that Kurt still somehow cared for him when he was interrupted by Andres exclamation. "Me too! Me too! I cant eat cherries!" Andre said, pointing at the cherries on Blaines spoon. "Papa said that Ill turn red if I eat little red fruits," he informed them, but mainly to Keya.
Blaine felt Kurt tense once again in his seat but ignored it because he wanted to intercede that eating cherries would also make his skin red, and make his face swell like he had been repeatedly stung by bees, but Andre wasnt quite finished with his explanation.
Andre then turned to Keya "You cant cook little red fruits when we are married, okay?" he instructed her with full authority like they really were a couple, and then he grinned when his crush nodded her head frantically and then Keya repeated No cherries to herself.
"No! You cant marry an Anderson!" Kurt didnt mean to shout his thoughts aloud, he knew that they were just playing house, but seeing Andre and Keya together was so bad... in so many many ways. He also didnt know how his statement could shatter Blaines heart.
"I... uh... excuse me," Blaine said as he stood up from his seat and ran towards the comfort room in a hurry.
Cooper was also about to stand up and comfort his brother when Kurt suddenly stood up and asked Adam to watch Andre for a minute, and then he strode gracefully towards the direction where Blaine had run off.
He didnt know why his sentence made Blaine make the same face he had seen on him when Andre unintentionally mentioned pickles during their dinner in Paris. He twisted the door knob and breathed a sigh of relief that he didnt need to beg Blaine to open the door. He walked in the room, closed it behind him, and approached Blaine who had his hands pressed on the counter sink, resting his whole weight on his arms.
"Hey..." Kurt said as a start.
"You said you already forgave me," Blaine stated, his eyes still closed, and head bowed down.
"I do... I did Blaine. I have forgiven you," Kurt said and slowly stepped behind Blaine, noticing on the mirror in front of them that there were tears continuously dropping on the counter sink.
"Then why are you avoiding me?" Blaines head snapped upwardly, looking at Kurts eyes through the mirrors reflection. "Why is it that whenever I take a step forward, youll always make two steps backward. Im really really trying to make it up to you, but I cant do it when you are always avoiding me."
"I... uh... I..."
Blaine then swirled around and faced Kurt. "I know I made terrible mistakes in my life, and I know that I cant change the past... but now I have the chance to make it different... but... but you wont let me," Blaine finished dejectedly.
"B..." Kurt whispered the nickname he hasnt uttered for so many years. Kurt didnt realize that he was avoiding Blaine; he just wanted to finish his business in New York without any more drama.
"Was it really hard to be associated with me again? That all Andersons are black listed in your notebook? Fuck, Kurt, was it really horrible for Andre and Keya to be together because of how I treated you? They were just kids!" He grabbed Kurts shoulder and looked him intently in the eyes. "Please Kurt look at me. Im not the Blaine of five years ago. I have changed now. Please look at that Blaine now, not the Blaine who made your life miserable before," Blaine pleaded as tears streamed down from his eyes.
"Blaine-"Kurt was about to apologize to Blaine for making him feel like that, but his action was interrupted when the door of the comfort room was slammed open by a worried Jenna.
"Kurt! Andre is-" Jenna only managed to utter three words when the two men inside the room hurriedly and frantically ran outside the public bathroom, and saw that an unconscious Andre was being cradled by Adam on the floor of the restaurant.
Blaine didnt know what possessed him to grab Kurts hand and rushed forward to the scene, and then without any hesitation he knelt in front of Adam and scooped Andre on his arms and ran towards the exit of the restaurant, with Kurt closely behind him, so they could drive to a nearby hospital quickly.
Cooper told Jenna to take a cab and go home first with their daughter as he, together with Adam, followed Blaines car to the hospital. The ride was awkward because it was Adam that was supposed to be with Kurt and Andre, not Blaine who is driving urgently to the hospital. But somehow he knew that he shouldnt feel weird that Blaine acted that way towards Andre.
It was even more awkward when they arrived at the hospital and saw Kurt crying in Blaines embrace as the ex-couple watched the little boy being rolled inside the emergency room.
"Shh... its okay... Andre is a strong boy. Hell be okay," Blaine comforted the crying Kurt in his arms. It hadnt even been an hour since Blaine and Kurt had first arrived at the hospital, but it really felt like it had been days that they were waiting for the doctor to exit the double doors and inform them about Andres condition.
Cooper knew that he should have been more worried about the childs health, but he couldnt help but think that something big would be unraveled as he watched from the corner of his eyes how Blaine kept on comforting Kurt, and he knew that Adam, who was standing beside him, was watching the same scene. Cooper was about to ask Adam why it wasnt him who was the one comforting Kurt about their child when, finally, the emergency doors opened and a beautiful woman strode towards them, and all adult automatically huddled around the doctor.
"Is my baby okay?" Kurt asked Dr. Rose frantically. "Please tell me he is okay," Kurt begged as he unconsciously pulled Blaine towards him, needing a warm body to comfort him.
"He is physically fine, Mr. Hummel," Dr. Marley Rose assured him. "He just tired himself out because his body had drained his blood and lowered his blood level. He just needed a lot of rest."
"Oh thank god!" Kurt and Blaine said in unison.
"But..." she started again, making the adults in the room tense again. "For the betterment of the young childs health, we need to transfer blood to your son so he can replenish the loss blood faster."
"Ill donate!" shouted the four adults to the doctor, all worried about the boys health.
Marley gave a small smile to them before continuing her explanation. "Im sorry but only AB negative blood type can be transferred to Andre."
"My blood is AB!" Blaine exclaimed and let go of Kurts shoulder to step forward to the female doctor.
Marley had dealt with many anxious relatives of her patients, so it didnt bother her that they kept on interrupting her explanation. "Mr. Hummel," she addressed Kurt and looked at the sobbing man in front of her. "There had been a complication during your pregnancy with Andre, so to prevent more risk on the boys health, his body can only accommodate blood that is directly related to him. In other words, Mr. Hummel, non-relatives cannot donate blood to him." She then turned towards Blaine and asked the curly man. "Are you a relative of Andre?"
"No, Im not." Blaine said dejectedly at the same time Kurt answered the doctor. "Yes he is!"
Blaine snapped his head back to face Kurt to know if he heard him right. He was dumbstruck, eyes and mouth open wide, as Kurt held his face, looked at him in the eyes, and brokenly begged with all his might.
"Blaine p-please... S-save our baby... Save Pickles."
