Kurt sighed softly as he stared into the mirror, tying his tie. It was finally time for the wedding... his dad was going to be married today... and he was going to get a step-mother and a step-brother. He wasn't sure whether Finn would warm up to him or not but either way... he wanted his dad to be happy.
The last couple of days had been a blur of last minute preparations and classes he barely paid attention to. The football jocks had left him alone for the most part, though, he got quite a few glares from them. He ignored them though because he didn't want to focus on the bad things... he wanted to focus on the new family that was forming... the new life he and his father were stepping into.
He was nervous, afraid things wouldn't go as planned... that his bad luck would, as usual, catch up to him and ruin what should be a perfect and beautiful day. He gnawed his bottom lip a bit as his stomach churned a bit, aching again as it had been quite a bit lately. He'd taken some non-drowsy gravol before coming and prayed that it did the trick. Last thing he needed was to run out of the church to throw up.
He finished with his tie and looked himself over, letting his hands smooth out wrinkles in his suit before deeming himself ready. He turned just in time to see someone step into the room. He instinctively flinched, not having expected it, but forced himself to relax afterwards and plaster on a smile when he realized who it was.
"Hey... there you are... I didn't think you'd make it," Kurt let out as he stepped towards the other, "Thank you for coming Blaine..." he smiled, blushing a bit, "you look really nice," he said as he looked the other over. Blaine looked quite sophisticated in his suit and bowtie. Kurt couldn't help but remind himself, again, that this wasn't a date... it was just a friend thing... even if he didn't want it to be.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world... you're singing, remember?" Blaine teased as he winked before he smiled warmly, "you look good too. Your parents are ok with me being here right?" he asked after a moment, "after all, I've only been your friend for a short time and, you know... I barely know them at all."
"It's fine... you're my friend and I want you here... and I planned the wedding so they're just going to have to put up with it," he smiled before chuckling, "besides... I'm sure they'd be perfectly happy to have you here... don't worry so much. Come on... I'll show you to were you can sit. I promise not to stick you next to anyone weird..."
"Oh thank god... so you're going to sit me on the Hudson side of the church right?" Blaine smirked and Kurt plastered on a hurt look and pouting cutely before both boys chuckled softly and moved to head into the chappel, Kurt showing Blaine where to sit, introducing him to the people he was sitting next to before he headed off to join the rest of the Glee Club and Burt and Carole.
"Hey, Buddy..." Burt let out when Kurt moved over towards him. He reached out to put his hands on Kurt's shoulders before he let out, "I'm not sure I'm ready for this..." and Kurt just smiled warmly and chuckled, "You'll be fine dad... take a deep breath and remember... this is Carole Hudson you're about to marry... A woman you love very much."
"Right... I can do this..." he let out and Kurt just chuckled, "Seriously... it's not like you haven't been married before... Were you this nervous when you got married to mom?" he asked and Burt sighed, "Nope..." he said with a shake of his head, "I was ten times worse..."
"Dad... relax..." Kurt let out again and chuckled softly as he moved to fix the others bowtie, making sure it was perfectly straight before brushing his fingers over the shoulders and tugging on the bottom of his jacket before nodding, "you look great... you'll be great. You've got your speech memorized and everything. You're ready."
"I'm ready... I'm ready... I'm getting married... I... Burt Hummel... Am about to be married... for the second time..." he said with a nod, though the words stung a bit. He would always love Elizabeth... but he liked to think that she wouldn't want him to be alone for the rest of his life... she'd want him to be happy.
"Dad..." Kurt said with a bit of a frown as he looked at the other before moving to hug him, "Everything's going to be perfect... We'll be a family... a real family again... I love Carole and I like Finn... And mom would want you to be happy..." he said giving the other a nod.
"I know... And I wish you'd stop reading my mind," Burt teased his son as he hugged him back before pulling away and letting Kurt make sure he was still looking perfect before the other nodded, "Alright... lets get this wedding going people!" Kurt let out as he turned towards the front, clapping his hands twice.
The music started and Finn was the first one into the Chappel. Kurt let out a breath and nodded as he heard Finn's voice starting off a beautiful version of 'I think I wanna marry you' by Bruno Mars. Rachel followed shortly after to join him for her own verse in her lovely red dress.
It's a beautiful night
We're looking for something dumb to do
Hey baby
I think I wanna marry you
Is it the look in your eyes
Or is it this dancing juice?
Who cares, baby
I think I wanna marry you
Once Rachel and Finn were done with their verses Sam and Quinn danced out with their own two verses. They looked great, sounded great and Quinn's red dress suited her beautifully.
Well, I know this little chapel
On the boulevard we can go
No one will know
Oh, come on girl
Soon Kurt and Mercedes were dancing out to join Sam and Quinn though they had no verse of their own. Kurt had planned the entire wedding and felt that he had 'shined enough' with just that and figured he'd let the other members of Glee get the chance to shine during this performance.
As strange as the song might seem Kurt truly believed it was perfect and so far things were going great. He'd also caught Blaine's eye on the way by and knew the other was disappointed that Kurt hadn't had his own little bit of a solo in there. The truth was... Kurt hadn't really planned on singing much this evening... He had one or two performances with some of the others but it wasn't much.
Who cares if we're trashed
Got a pocket full of cash we can blow
Shots of patron
And it's on, girl
Once the four of them were done their part Artie and Brittany 'danced' in, Artie waving streamers around and Brittany pushed him, the two of them starting the chorus of the song, Santana and Puck dancing up behind them, no chorus of their own either.
Don't say no, no, no, no, no
Just say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
And we'll go, go, go, go, go
If you're ready, like I'm ready
Tina and Mike came in at this point singing the next part of the chorus, showing off their dance moves, which half the time consisted of Mike looking like he was about to fall over. It was funny though and quite entertaining and everyone seemed to enjoy it even if it did look ridiculous.
'Cause it's a beautiful night
We're looking for something dumb to do
Hey baby
I think I wanna marry you
And then the rest of them came back around and behind Mike and Tina as they continued, dancing in unison, Finn and Kurt at the front of the group leading the way to the alter as everyone moved to take their spots, still singing...
Is it the look in your eyes
Or is it this dancing juice?
Who cares, baby
I think I wanna marry you
And then Burt was dancing into the room looking a bit dorky but Kurt couldn't care less... his dad looked happy and that's what mattered most... and he was having fun. Everything was so... so very perfect and he just hoped things continued on like this throughout the night.
Just say I do
Tell me right now, baby
Tell me right now, baby, baby
Just say I do
Tell me right now, baby
Tell me right now, baby, baby, oh
Carole came through the doors at this point, dancing through the aisles, holding the train of her dress so she didn't trip, singing along with the song and looking just as happy as Kurt's dad looked.
It's a beautiful night
We're looking for something dumb to do
Hey baby
I think I wanna marry you
Kurt took a deep breath and continued to sing as he watched his dad slip back down the aisle and hook his arm in Carole's, the two of them dancing the last few steps to the alter together.
Is it the look in your eyes
Or is it this dancing juice
Who cares, baby
I think I wanna marry you
Kurt had to stop singing once they got there, trying hard not to cry. He felt stupid for wanting to cry but he just felt so happy... for once... he felt happy... He hadn't felt like this in a while and it was a little overwhelming.
He smiled a bit at the cheering from their friends and family in the pews, his heart fluttering. Everything seemed so... so perfect. He was so glad that he could make this happen for his dad. If someone had told him that his little scheme would have brought so much joy into his life... He'd never have even thought to second guess himself when he'd brought the two of them together.
"Please be seated," the priest said calmly after a moment, calming the cheering down as he gave a polite nod of thanks, "Now, weddings usually start with a prayer... but... a certain young wedding planner, who will remain nameless... thought that some in attendance might fall asleep."
Kurt blushed deeply, not having expected for the man to say anything about that. He caught his dad's eyes and gaped a bit, blushing more and he could swear he vaguely heard Blaine snicker in the background as he stood there like a fish out of water. His stomach
"So I am going to let Burt and Carole tell you in their own words exactly why they've invited you here today..." the priest said with a warm smile. Kurt was still blushing, not liking being singled out... everyone there knew exactly who had planned the wedding after all. Normally this wouldn't bother him but he'd become a lot more self-conscious over the last couple of months.
"Alright..." Burt let out as he turned towards their guests, "Everyone knows I've never really had a way with words... but... here goes... Now, when you're a kid... adults will tell you a lot of things, don't do this, don't do that, get your finger out of your nose..." he said and everyone laughed quietly.
"But what they tend to neglect to mention is how sad life can be... I lost someone I loved very much... my best friend and my wife... but Kurt... Kurt lost his mom... And that hurt so much more... We got by. We 'managed'. But looking back... I need to apologize to you Kurt... because what we had, what we were living... It wasn't living."
Kurt frowned a bit at his father's words, trying to hold back tears as his stomach churned even more. They talked about his mom sometimes but... this was different. Everything was changing. He would always miss his mother but probably never as much as he missed her right now... even when he should be happy because his dad was finally moving on. Maybe... he wasn't quite ready for that himself yet.
"You know how people say sometimes that when god closes a door, he opens a window? Well, sometimes out of nowhere he'll do you one better... And he'll kick a whole wall down... sometimes with the help of scheming teenagers," he said with a smirk, glancing to Kurt who blushed again, before his dad turned back to Carole, "God grabbed me by the shoulders and turned me in the direction of his beautiful woman right here and he said to me... there she is... go and get her," Burt said as he looked to Carole lovingly.
"You are everything to me, Carole... Words cannot describe you... you are everything... And I promise you I will love you till the day I die," Burt said and Carole looked like she was about to cry. Kurt smiled warmly as he looked to the two, trying to ignore his sore stomach. He was so nervous that something was going to go wrong... but it was going so well.
Carole took a deep breath at this point and nodded as she turned towards the guests herself now, smiling and holding back her happy tears as she spoke, "I'm lucky... Most women, when they get married... they get one man... I get two... One of you saved me from my ancient wardrobe..." she said with a bit of a chuckle as she looked to Kurt before looking to his father and smiling warmly, "And the other one just saved me..."
"Kurt... you are an amazing individual... I'm not only getting a son... I'm getting a friend... And a really good fashion consultant," she said with a warm smile to Kurt, soft chuckles going through the room before she turned to her own son, "Finn... I know you weren't exactly comfortable with all of this at first but I am so very proud of you... I've watched you grow into a man. Most of all though... I think I'm most proud to see that you've become a brother to Kurt."
"We are... four people... four individuals... becoming a family," Carole let out, smiling as she moved to take Finn's hand, Burt reaching out to take Kurt's. Kurt looked away from Finn at this point, still truthfully unsure if Finn was even comfortable with him anymore. He couldn't help but remember the day in the hallway... listening to Rachel and Finn... listening to Finn tell Rachel that he wouldn't go along with her plan to confront Karofsky.
"Alright..." The priest let out as Kurt gave Burt the rings, giving a nod to his father who smiled warmly to him. It didn't matter if he and Finn never got along... all that mattered to him was that his father was happy. Carole was an amazing woman and he liked her... and he liked Finn too... he just wasn't sure if the other liked him back in any way, shape, or form.
"Burt... do you take Carole..." the priest began, being cut off by an enthusiastic Burt who beamed as he let out, "You bet I do..." as he moved to put the ring on Carole's finger, people in the pews chuckling at the others antics as he smiled warmly to Carole and he mouthed 'I love you', caressing her hand gently.
"And do you Carole take Burt..." the priest began once again being cut off, this time by Carole who let out an equally enthusiastic, "Ohh yes... yes I do, yes I do..." causing everyone to laugh again and Kurt couldn't help but feel like no matter what... everything was going to work out as he watched the two of them... his parents... kiss, officially becoming husband and wife as their friends and family clapped in congratulations.
~*~*~*~
Kurt smiled warmly as Mr. Schuester sang, his father and Carole dancing their first official dance as husband and wife. He glanced next to him to Blaine and smiled before looking over to Finn and Rachel over on the other end of the table. He sighed softly and couldn't help but think that this really had been perfect... It was a day they would all remember...
The wedding had been unique... and entertaining... and so very full of love. There wasn't a person in that room who couldn't honestly say they could feel the love that Burt Hummel and Carole Hudson felt for each other. Kurt couldn't help but wish that he could have a love like that someday.
He knew his father had loved his mother very much and Carole could never replace her... And that Carole had loved her own deceased husband as well... but this was a new kind of love for both of them. One that was equally as amazing but would never take the place of the love both of them had had before.
Kurt glanced back to Blaine at this point and blushed just a bit as the other looked to him and chuckled softly, "They look really good out there Kurt. You did great teaching your dad... and this... this whole thing Kurt... is amazing. Everything was so inspiring and perfect," he said and Kurt smiled and nodded, "Thank you... They do look good don't they?" he said before he grabbed his wine glass and took a sip.
"So... when are you actually going to sing? Remember... that is the only reason I came" Blaine asked, winking mischiviously, looking at Kurt before almost pouting at the other. Kurt smiled weakly before chuckling softly and blushing, "the truth is... I never really planned to sing any solos or anything like that. I was too busy planning the wedding to worry about something like that... I'm really sorry..."
Blaine gave an even bigger pout at this point, faking a hurt look before he chuckled softly and shrugged, "It's ok... I'll just have to find some way to get you to sing for me at some other point then... Maybe get you to give me a nice private performance," he smiled before looking back as the song ended and Mr. Schue introduced Finn for the others best man speech, not noticing the bright red color Kurt had turned at his words.
Finn stood and looked rather nervous as he took a deep breath, Rachel squeezing his hand for a moment and nodding as Finn moved to the center of the room to speak, "Uhhh... thank you... so... ya... best man... right. So first off, I'd like to propose a toast to my mom... Who is... just so amazing... Somehow, even though there wasn't a man in the house, you taught me what it was to be a man..."
Kurt glanced over to Carole at this point and smiled weakly as he saw the tears in her eyes before he heard Finn speak again, "In Glee Club, whenever two of us got together... we'd always get this nickname... Rachel and I are 'Finchel'... Rachel and Puck were 'Puckleberry'... Me and Quinn were Fuinn... And today... a new union was born... 'Furt'..." he let out and everyone chuckled softly, Blaine letting out a bit of a playful snort next to Kurt.
Kurt blinked a bit at the others words, cheeks heating up and he couldn't help but remember the crush he'd had on the other for the longest time. Usually these nicknames were only given to romantic couplings... not... something like this. But still... it was sweet really and... maybe this meant... maybe him and Finn were ok now after all. He smiled a bit at the thought as he looked over to Finn who was now staring at him.
"Kurt... man... we're brothers from another mother... And the truth is... no one has shown me as much as you... about what it means to be a man. About how important it is to be honest to yourself and others, to stand up for what you believe in... and to be yourself even if other people don't like who you are," Finn let out, taking a deep breath and nodding.
"And I know that... over the past few weeks... some stuff has happened... And I haven't manned up like I should have. And you have no idea how sorry I am for that... But I promise you, from now on... No matter what it might cost me... I've got your back... Okay?" Finn said, looking almost pleadingly at Kurt like he was looking for some kind of forgiveness.
"Even if it means getting an ice cold slushy in the face every now and then," He let out, everyone chuckling again as Kurt smiled weakly and gave the other a nod, glancing over to Blaine next to him who smiled brightly and gave him a nod as well as he patted him on the leg before looking back to Finn who was clearly not quite done yet.
"You put this entire wedding together... all by yourself... Kurt, you're amazing. So, as a thank you... The Glee club and I put together a little number in your honor..." the tall boy said as he walked up to Kurt, leaning over and smirking as he let out, "you're going to dance it with me, dude... No protesting..."
Kurt gaped at the others words and shook his head at this, looking almost pleadingly to Blaine who smirked and shook his head before looking to Finn and nodding to the other, giving him an a-ok sign with his fingers, mouthing, 'I got this,' and ignoring the slap on the arm he got from Kurt who chuckled softly after a moment, smiling warmly as the other members of Glee started to hum and the piano started, Finn backing up to the middle of the dance floor again.
The other boys began to slip onto the dance floor at this point, joining Finn, the girl's still in their spots at their tables, waiting for now as they continued to hum pleasantly. Kurt watched them, his heart hammering in his chest as he took a deep breath, waiting for it. He was pretty sure he knew this song too...
Finn began to sing, dancing in unison with the other boys, glancing to Rachel for a moment, pointing to her as he sang before looking back to Kurt and smiling warmly. Rachel looked so proud of him right now and Kurt looked from her back to Finn and smiled as well, still blushing from embarrassment. He wasn't sure he liked the attention and for a moment, he couldn't remember the last time he'd been outgoing and proud like he'd once been... when had he become so shy?
Her eyes, her eyes
make the stars look like they're not shining
Her hair, her hair
falls perfectly without her trying
Finn continued to sing and pointed over towards his mom at this point as the girls moved to join him before he looked over to Kurt, pointing to him now as he continued to sing, moving on to the chorus as the boy's slipped off to the side and the girl's moved and danced together beautifully with Finn dancing proudly at the front.
She's so beautiful
And I tell her everyday (yeahh)
Oh you know, you know, you know
I'd never ask you to change
If perfects what you're searching for
Then just stay the same
So don't even bother asking if you look okay
'Cause you know I'll say
Finally, Finn moved towards him and Kurt opened his mouth to protest but Blaine just nudged him and motioned for him to get up and Kurt sighed and rolled his eyes, Blaine chuckling and clapping as Kurt moved around the front of the table and followed the still singing Finn onto the dance floor.
When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
'Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
Finn pointed to his new brother again as he smiled brightly and sang, the girls dancing on one side of the dance floor, the boy's on the other. Kurt stood by the girl's and finally Mercedes and Rachel had to pull him over towards Finn as the other pointed to him. Kurt stopped at one point and moved to step back only to have Rachel chuckle and reach out to grab his arm, pulling him back towards Finn.
And when you smile
The whole world stops and stares for a while
Finn moved to grab his hands and Kurt finally just relaxed, chuckling softly as he nodded, letting the other lead him as they danced hand in hand... just like they'd practiced at school. Kurt knew his face had to be beat red and he honestly thought he might collapse or out right pass out. He wondered if Finn could feel him trembling from nervousness but the other just continued to sing.
'Cause hey you're amazing
Just the way you are
Finally, Finn stopped dancing, Kurt relaxing a bit more before he all but yelped as the other leaned over and pulled him into a tight hug. He gaped a bit but finally moved to hug back. He almost wanted to cry truth be told... He'd honestly thought Finn hated him... or that he was disgusted by him... but he wasn't...
The way you are
The way you are
He smiled as he heard Finn whisper in his ear before pulling away from the hug, "time to grab the parentals..." and Kurt nodded, the two of them turning to their parents and moving to grab them to pull them up to dance, smiling warmly. Kurt reached out for his dad's hand and Burt just chuckled softly, giving a nod as he followed the other onto the dance floor.
girl you're amazing
Just the way you are
At this point people just started coming up, girls dancing with girls, boys with boys, in groups, solo... it didn't matter... everyone was just dancing and having fun. Kurt laughed softly as he pulled away from his dad, letting the other move to dance with his new bride. He blinked when he felt a hand tap him on the shoulder and he turned, smiling brightly when he saw Blaine there.
When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
"May I have this dance, Monsieur?" Blaine asked in a really bad french accent, both of them chuckling softly as Kurt took the others hands, smiling warmly as the two of them began to dance along with everyone else. He spotted Rachel and Mercedes dancing together a little ways off, Puck and Santana... Sam and Quinn... Brittany was just getting on down with her bad self as Tina and Mike moved beautifully together.
'Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
Rachel moved to dance with Finn eventually and Mercedes joined Artie and Brittany, the three of them dancing together, Brittany being Artie's legs while he and Mercedes moved together smoothly. Kurt watched everyone, too nervous to look into Blaine's eyes as they danced.
And when you smile
The whole world stops and stares for a while
"This turned out really well... was this all Finn's idea?" Blaine finally asked and Kurt looked at him and smiled, nodding, "ya... I had no idea he had this planned... the original plan was for him to dance with his mom... not me..." he chuckled but let out a sigh, "everyone looks like they're having so much fun..."
'Cause hey you're amazing
Just the way you are
"They are... aren't you?" Blaine asked as he looked to the slightly taller brunette. Kurt let himself finally look into the others eyes, blushing a bit as he nodded, "y... ya... of course... of course I'm having fun. I haven't had this much fun in a long time... Thank you for coming Blaine... this means a lot to me... you can't imagine now much."
Yaaa,
you're amazing
"I wouldn't have missed it for the world... But I'm still going to get you to sing for me..." he teased, sticking out his tongue at the other as Carole stepped up, "mind if I cut in?" she asked as she pulled Kurt away, Kurt just shugging and giving Blaine a bit of a wave as Mercedes came up to dance with Blaine who smiled and nodded though he chanced a glance back at Kurt every now and then.
Just the way you are

Oh my gosh that was soo cute ;w; I can't wait to read part two, I almost died of happy <3
=) I had fun writing it despite the fact that I used mostly stuff right from the show.
This chapter was absolute perfection. I loved it so much! I was literally smiling the entire time. I loved it! Blaine fit in the chapter so well I kept having to think back to the real episode to remind myself that he wasnt there! Haha but after reading this he definitely should have been! :D
Ya I really like the idea of having Blaine at the wedding. If only they'd known each other a bit more. =) But just wait till the next chapter. I have this super cute idea in my head and I'm so doing it. =^-^=
I GOT MY FIX. This was a beautiful chapter! NOW DRAMA!Eeeeep I'm addicted to your story ner.
Not drama quite yet. The wedding scene isn't over =P Though you never know, my brain might pop in something dramatic at the wedding but right now that's not the plan. XD
I know... it's my favourite episode of the series. I could watch that one over and over and over and love it every time... which I have been doing because I watch it while I'm writting. XD Blaine fit in pretty nicely here didn't he? =)
This was really awesome. You did a really good job fitting Blaine in. I always kind of wanted him to be there in the episode so it was nice to see you add him. I really enjoyed Finn's speech and loved that he was finally welcoming Kurt as his brother which on the show actually was one of my favorite "Furt" moments. I can't wait to see what happens next.
I wish Blaine attended the wedding in canon as well even though they didn't know each other for long. Thank you for giving an apportunity for him to be there in your story :)
=) Thank you. Ya... I like the idea really. Gives Kurt someone to dance with... I also hate that Kurt never sang at the wedding. =(
