*sighs happily*
In some ways it felt like only yesterday that Blaine had proposed, and in others Kurt felt like he had been waiting for this day his entire life. None of the fantasies he’d had as a child nor the binders full of ideas he’d been collecting since he was four could’ve ever prepared him for how it felt to be standing in front of the man he loved, ready to pledge his undying love to him.
Their color scheme, so carefully chosen, paled in comparison to the warmth he could see in Blaine’s hazel eyes. Kurt had handmade their suits from the finest fabrics he could find, but they felt scratchy compared to Blaine’s calloused, yet soft hands held in his own. The fragrant smell of the flowers was unnoticeable beneath the subtle hints of Blaine’s cologne mixed in with his own unique scent. One that would always remind Kurt of love. Of safety. Of home.
They’d had a fierce rock paper scissors battle to decide who got to recite their vows first, one that Kurt had won with the best four out of seven. Blaine had pouted and accused Kurt of cheating, but Elliott, who had been called in as a judge after flipping a coin, drawing straws, and eeny meeny miny moe had all failed to produce results, got fed up and threatened them both with defenestration if they didn’t knock it off.
Standing before Blaine now, their hands tightly clasped together and waiting for the officiant to give him the signal he could say his vows, Kurt was glad that he had won. There’d already been many times where he was glad to have included handkerchiefs in their outfits, and Kurt knew that he would not have been able to stop himself from blubbering if he’d had to listen to Blaine’s undoubtedly heartfelt and romantic vows first.
Finally, after what felt like a lifetime of waiting, Kurt heard the officiant prompt him to speak.
“Blaine, two years ago today, you took my hand and you made me a promise. A promise that you‘ve not broken since, even if I really could have done without one of those times you baked me cookies.”
Blaine snorted wetly and squeezed Kurt’s hands in remembrance. He probably should’ve known better than to use a recipe that was provided by Cooper of all people.
“You make me feel so safe and loved, and every single day I feel humbled that you chose me to love. To share your life with. To build a future with.
“You have supported me in everything I do, have defended me, even if you knew I was wrong. You have always picked up my calls, even when you were mad at me.
“You are the best friend I have ever had, my one true love, my soulmate. I can’t wait to discover everything life has to offer with you. To laugh and learn with you. To grow old with you. I know that, with you by my side, there is nothing I cannot do. And so, my vow to you is this.
“I vow to always love you. To defend you, even when you don’t need it. To let you try to surprise me, and not give away that I already know. To hold your hand, wherever and whenever you want. I vow to never forget how perfectly right for me you are, and to never make you regret swiping right.”
Blaine laughed, and Kurt heard Finn snort from behind him. He let go with his right hand and cupped Blaine’s face, wiping away some tears that had fallen. The promise ring shone brightly from his finger, where it hadn’t left since Blaine put it there.
Kurt knew tradition dictated he should wait, but he found it really hard to care when Blaine looked at him like that. Fuck it, he never liked conforming anyway. Gently, he leaned in and pressed his lips against Blaine’s.
Not to be outdone, Blaine grabbed Kurt’s waist with his free hand and pulled him in, opening his mouth and deepening their kiss until they ran out of breath. They heard laughter from their audience and felt the officiant tapping them on their shoulders.
“Alright gents, let’s save some for the honeymoon, hmkay?”
With one last nip to Kurt’s bottom lip, Blaine finally let go. “Can you blame me? You were listening to the same vows I was, right?”
Kurt huffed out a short laugh and kept his arms wrapped tightly around Blaine. He locked eyes with his soon to be husband and softly spoke the last lines of his vows into the quiet air between them.
“I vow to be your best friend and your confidant. Your husband and your lover. To be right beside you every step of the way. Fearlessly and forever.”
