Dear Journal,
Well, that was a mistake…
I don’t know why Blaine thought it was a good idea to chaperone Ellie’s junior prom, but I wish I had fought him a little harder on it. Ellie made us swear that we would leave her alone and not ‘cramp her style’, and I, foolishly, complied.
It all started off fine. Rachel had come over to help her with her preparations and she and Jesse would chaperone the dinner with Ellie’s date and her friends while we headed to the school to set up. I know I’m biased, but she really is the prettiest girl of them all. We designed her dress together and I got to teach her to sew while we were making it. It, of course, fits like a glove and the shade of green she chose perfectly offsets her dark curls and hazel eyes. She really looks more like her daddy each day.
Prom itself was fine too. Cliched as hell, of course, but the kids were all adorable in their get ups. But see, Blaine and I, we raised Ellie right. She knows how to respect her body and both her and other people’s boundaries. What didn’t occur to us, and really should have, is that her friends might not all have been taught the same things.
I know she’s pissed at me for how I reacted to seeing a friend of hers being cornered like that, but that little shit had it coming. I know there were plenty of other adults who saw it too, but got there after us, but I keep thinking about what could’ve happened if we didn’t jump in.
I don’t care if she was embarrassed by us. Her friend got home safe and sound, and her ex-friend now knows better than to pull a stunt like that again. I can’t regret that. So maybe it wasn’t really a mistake after all…
