Burt was concerned for how he had been feeling. Not wanting his thoughts to go to the dark place of wondering if his cancer was back. He had been waking during the night to use the bathroom more frequently, and was nauseous constantly, at least it felt like it. Carole had convinced him to make a doctors appointment.
He sat on the paper covered, very hard, and definitely uncomfortable exam table. Carole sat to his left, holding his hand, doing her best to reassure him that everything would be fine. All he could think was, if he was this nervous, he was glad they had agreed to not say anything to the boys. Kurt would have taken it the hardest, automatically thinking the worst.
"You know, getting yourself worked up, is not going to help any." Carole spoke up, smoothing her thumb over her husband's ring finger.
"They took the damn blood over 20 minutes ago. What the hell is taking so long?" Burt snapped back. Immediately regretting it. "I am sorry, but how hard is it to look at blood and come back in here and give me the news?"
At that moment the doctor walked in. "The good news is, your cancer has not returned."
Burt and Carole both exhaled loudly, the breath they had both unknowingly held the minute the doctor walked in.
"Well then, Doc, tell me what the hell is going on!" Burt demanded, getting more uncomfortable under his gaze.
"Have you seen the news reports from around the world and locally of the changes that are being reported, since the meteor incident?" The doctor asked, his gaze wandering between Burt and Carole.
"I have seen that women are no longer able to get pregnant, and crops are very plentiful." Carole was the first to answer.
"I am surrounded by the fallout, if you will, everyday. Colleagues. Male colleagues, mind you, getting pregnant." Burt admitted nodding his head as he spoke.
"Well, whether you see it as good or bad news, you have been affected by the meteor." The doctor took a deep breath. "Burt, Carole, I know you will be shocked, but Burt you are pregnant."
Burt stared in disbelief. "I am too old to be pregnant. The young guys at work are dealing with this and they are having problems. How the hell will I do so, at my age?"
Carole squeezed Burt's hand. "They are improving the medical adgvances almost daily, to accommodate the growing numbers of pregnant men." Carole a nurse at Lima General saw more cases each day. She never thought one would be her own husband.
