“Hi,” she murmured, waving weakly.
With a chuckle, Kurt set his cup down and bent at his waist the lean on the countertop. “You want me to make you some breakfast?” Kurt asked, reaching across the island to brush some of the girl’s brown hair behind her ear.
Lorelei shook her head and rested her elbow on the counter and let her head rest in her hand. Kurt tilted his head a little to the side, ready to ask if something was bothering her when he felt a firm hand make contact with his backside and squeeze. He squeaked and turned abruptly to face his husband’s smiling face.
“Good morning,” Blaine grinned stupidly, leaning in to press a kiss to Kurt’s lips before walking away to the fridge.
Kurt chuckled and shook his head a little, turning back to his coffee and newspaper. “Daddy?” Lorelei asked softly. Kurt hummed and looked up at the girl. She licked her lips and blinked quickly back at him. “You’re Daddy right?” she asked. Kurt’s brow furrowed, but she continued. “And Papa is Papa?”
“Yeah, that’s how it works, honey. Why?”
Her face crumpled in thought for a moment. “It’s just… Why were you calling Papa ‘Daddy’ last night?”
Kurt was taking another sip of his drink when Lorelei had asked her question. And his reaction felt as if it was all in slow motion. His eyes widened and cheeks burned hot as his throat seized up and the small mouthful of coffee was spat onto the island. Kurt sucked in a deep breath and everything returned to normal speed. He coughed dramatically, hitting himself in the chest once.
He opened and closed his mouth several times as he stared back at his six year old daughter. His mind had gone blank. He couldn’t even begin to formulate a response. Their daughter had overheard him calling Blaine Daddy. Granted she didn’t understand the really connotation of that name but the point still stood.
Kurt reached for a napkin and began to clean up the counter and wipe at his mouth, hoping he didn’t make that big of a mess. He purposely ignored Lorelei’s eyes and silently willed the redness of his face to leave.
“Sweetie,” Blaine said, walking around the counter.
Oh, thank god for Blaine.
“Daddy and I were playing a game last night. Like you and your sister play pretend? It was just silly Daddy and Papa games. I’m still Papa and he’s still Daddy, don’t worry about it, alright?”
Lorelei nodded a little before murmured an “okay” in response.
Blaine pressed a kiss to the top of her head and smirked over at Kurt. He made his way around the island and stood behind Kurt, pressing himself flush against Kurt’s back, his chin on Kurt’s shoulder. “Looks like you made a bit of a mess there, little boy,” Blaine murmured into Kurt’s ear, reaching for another napkin and cleaning up a bit of coffee Kurt had missed before walking away.
Kurt flushed hot and swallowed hard. “So,” he said in a high voice, “Breakfast?”
