Itd been a day since Blaine had seen his blind parents, blind to his disappearance, blind to the way he wasnt hiding away in his bedroom like they had told him. For a few hours, Blaine had sat at the window and waited for the car to pull out of the driveway and comb the neighborhood, driving back and forth in search of the sad, little boy they had finally managed to chase out of the house. But the only action hed seen at his parents house had been his moms car pulling into the driveway, and, minutes later, the lights had turned off, and Blaine had realized, with a sense of both disappointment and relief, that they werent going to come for him. Hed wondered throughout the night if he would ever go back, if he would simply stay here with Kurt, which was probably best for him, but then he considered his brother, who would be heartbroken if he never turned up again. His brother had a deep love for him that he couldnt understand since the rest of the family seemed to hate him, and he never wanted to lose Cooper, so he knew he had to force himself to go back eventually.
When it got late and his nose had frozen because hed pressed it to the window all day, Elizabeth had pulled him away and carried that sniffling, little boy down the stairs to tuck him in beside of Kurt. She had kissed their foreheads, then turned away with a worried expression on her face. Some part of her must have understood Blaines desperate tone that calling his parents would only make things worse, so the phone had stayed silent all night long, the only sound Blaine heard from Burt, who had mumbled to his wife about how they couldnt keep Blaine forever, that it was kidnapping, no matter how bad his situation at home. Hed heard her weep throughout the night, devastated sobs that shocked Blaine because no one had ever cried for him before. But, early that morning, she had dried her tears and crept down the stairs and woke the two of them with the same cheerfulness she had the day before. She brought them upstairs with something new to do for Christmas.
After she put them on the floor, she drew her sister out of the room, leaving the two of them to question what was going to happen. Both of them returned a few moments later, pulling in boxes and wrapping paper and bags of bows. Elizabeth dropped her things in front of Kurt and Blaine, then lowered beside of the boxes and took a few of them for herself. "My kittens, I thought today would be a wonderful day to wrap a few gifts, dont you? Its too terribly nippy to go outside, so we must stay inside." Her blue eyes briefly turned to Blaine, and he saw a flash of the upset manner she was hiding within them, obviously because of how he had escaped her yesterday. "Kurt, here a few gifts to your daddy and your distant family. Be careful with the scissors, my darlings. I dont want any sore fingers." She lifted Kurts hands in hers and pressed kisses to his fingertips, making him smile from ear to ear. "Okay, you two, make the presents as pretty as you want. Lots of glitter and bows if youd like. Im going to wrap up a few of my gifts for the two of you over there, so no peeking."
When Kurt pressed his palms to his big eyes to show her how good he was at not peeking, she laughed, and he looked at her from between his fingers. "Thats very good, my precious one. Sweethearts, I believe these presents will need to go under something. Now, what could that be?" She tapped her bottom lip, faking confusion, then she burst into laughter when Kurt squealed that they needed to put a tree up. "What do you think of going tomorrow to get it, my sweets? And then well spend the evening decorating it."
Kurt plopped onto his butt, already reaching into a bag of bows and pulling out the most sparkly one. "Can it be pink, Maman? You know how I love pink very much." As he fiddled with the bow, the sticky tape caught on his thumb. He tried shaking it off, but it didnt fall, and his eyes widened to the size of saucers. "Maman, its sticky!"
While Blaine pulled the bow off of Kurt and set it aside, Elizabeth snickered behind her fingertips, "Thats because its supposed to stick to the presents, not little boys!" She reached into the bag of bows and replaced Kurts ruined bow with another that he could play with. "Our tree can be whatever color you like, flower. As long as its perfectly okay with Blaine." When Blaine dropped his chin a few times, Elizabeth bent and kissed their foreheads. Her hair fell from her ear, tickling Blaine as it swung down to his cheek. "Then well have a pink tree. Now, we should get a few of these presents wrapped, shouldnt we? Before Christmas goes by and we dont have a pretty bow on a single present! You know how your grandma always likes your decorations."
After she gathered up a few more presents she was going to wrap herself, she carried them over to the couch, where Laurice was waiting. Laurice scooted over to the edge of the couch, tucking her long legs underneath her and putting her coffee aside. Blaine turned away from them and was about to reach for a box that was addressed to one of Kurts aunts-Blaine guessed it was on Burts side-when he heard mumbling from Laurice, that low tone reminding him of the late conversations his family had about him, things he couldnt know, usually about their desperation to make him behave better. He stiffened when he heard what he had feared, an immediate mention of him, good or bad he wasnt sure, "What are we going to do... you know... about Blaine? What did Burt say?"
Turning his head to the side, Blaine tried to be subtle as he stared at Elizabeth, whose brows were ruffled and eyes were narrowed. Hed never seen her look that way before, that dreadful look as if she had just come across a nightmarish ghost. "He said we have to take him back... soon. Oh, Laurice, I dont know how Ill bear taking my sweetheart back to that... that... horrible house!" She curled her hands into small fists and slapped the pillows with them, making a soft thud. "And I cant even talk about this with them... about the love that he deserves. I feel like theyll hurt him no matter what I do. Theres nothing I can do to stop it."
Laurice gave her sister a sympathetic look, her bottom lip pushing out. She lifted her hand from the box shed been taping up, and she touched her sisters eyes with her sleeve to dry them. "Youre doing whats best for Blaine... even if its just for a few days. Youre giving him a good home... a loving home. Youre encouraging him to be strong, even when he feels weak. Its the same way you raised Kurt, and hes doing very well for himself."
Elizabeth gave up with a sigh, and she rested her heavy head on her palms, "I know that Kurt is okay. But he has always been around my love. Blaine hardly knows what it is like to be loved by a mom." When she realized how much her voice had raised with her heightening emotions, she quickly leaned toward her sister and said in a broken voice, "Its just... Blaine has come to be my baby. I love him as much as I do Kurt. And I want to protect him... as I do Kurt. I cant... and thats hurting me, Laurice. Oh, its driving me mad that I cant keep my precious baby safe."
He glanced over at Kurt, who had his tongue poking out of the corner of his mouth as he concentrated on making a present as sparkly as it could be. He must have sensed Blaines eyes on him in some way that Blaine couldnt understand because his blue gaze flicked up to Blaines face. He gave him a sweet grin that Blaine tried to return but thought was more crooked. Kurt seemed to appreciate it, anyway, and he scooted closer to Blaine, but Blaine turned away from him and let his curious eyes drift back to Elizabeth. No one had ever been so troubled over him, and even though he felt guilty for putting Elizabeth through so many emotions that she didnt want, he wanted to show her how much he appreciated her love.
Getting to his feet, he hesitantly approached her, taking very slow steps as if to be cautious that she might push him away. But she didnt, just looked down at him and gasped as if surprised that he was making the first move toward her. She held perfectly still as he wrapped his arms around her legs, pressing his face into her soft skin. She smelled of lilacs on a damp morning, a scent he liked very much. When he glimpsed up at her, he saw her wide eyes, the biggest smile on her face. Her eyes suddenly got very wet, and she looked over at her sister and patted her arm as if she hadnt already noticed him. "Theres my baby." Elizabeth said, her voice thick because of the bubble of tears caught in her throat. "Oh, Blaine, you have no idea how much I needed a hug from you." Reaching down for him, she scooped him up into her safe arms that had never done anything wrong to him. She cuddled him against her chest, holding him so tight that all he could breathe was her flowery perfume.
Suddenly feeling a pat on his thigh, he glanced over his shoulder at Kurt, who was holding his arms up in a plea to be held just as tight. Blaine reached down for Kurt, and Elizabeth laughed, shifting so she could squeeze both of them against her. "Oh, my little ones, you know how to make me feel better. I need plenty of kisses and hugs today. I think the greatest love comes from a child. Look at both of you! I couldnt be happier than I am right now."
While Kurt smiled at his mom and got a kiss to his plump cheek, Blaine twisted around and pawed for his book, dragging it closer to himself. He held it against his chest, and Elizabeth smoothed his hair, encouraging him to find his voice. Swallowing thickly and feeling the straining in his neck ease with every moment that Elizabeth looked at him with those gentle eyes, he mumbled, "Do y-you want me to read to you?"
Elizabeth gave him the prettiest smile and held him closer, while Kurt eagerly bobbed his head, his hair bouncing with every drop of his chin, "Kurt and I would like nothing more, my Blaine. And Im sure my sister feels the same! Whenever you feel ready... well listen to you, sweetheart."
It took Blaine a few seconds to even get his shaking fingers to open the book, but Laurice gave him a push toward what he wanted by dramatically bowing to him, "Never fear, Lady Hummel and Prince Kurt, the great, brave knight, Sir Blaine, has come to rescue us of our anticipation of what happens to Cinderella!" When Blaine blinked at her as his face turned even redder, she winked at him, "This is the part where you rescue us."
Giggling at her sisters efforts, Elizabeth put her hand on her forehead and tilted her head back, "Oh, how will I ever go on without hearing how our story ends? Our brave knight must help us!" Becoming more and more excited because of his aunt and moms playfulness, Kurt kicked his tiny feet and nuzzled under Blaines chin, showing his support of him and everything he did.
As he looked down at his dusty book, he realized that, over the past few days, his parents had distracted him from his beloved stories, but then he remembered that nothing could take them from him, not when they were always in his heart. He opened his book to the page hed left unread, and he cleared his throat a few times before he muttered, "Prince Charming was blind to his own royal blood, keeping only the bravery and kindness of a true prince, with the mind of a hardworking commoner. He cared for his kingdom with an earnestness that must have worn him down each day, and it did. He craved something new, something exciting, as much as he loved his little world that was his kingdom. So, when he arrived at one of his annual balls with a mind that nothing new would happen, but with a hope that there would be something new, he was surprised to find Cinderella, who was beautiful to him in ways that he couldnt understand."
He heard Kurt gasp against his chest, and he lowered his eyes to his blond head, buried in his shirt. "Cinderella, who had come in hope that something new would happen to her but doubting that she deserved it, was unsure of this handsome prince. She tried to keep a distance from him, but he swept her off her feet. The two of them slipped away from the party to kiss under a tree, and he admitted his love to her. She rejected him, for she was too different from him, but he wouldnt leave her alone. He wouldnt go with her when she ran away from him, but he wanted to stay with her. He asked her to stay with him and rule his kingdom at his side, not under him, and she was resistant at first, but she gave in to his love."
He put his book aside and wrinkled his nose, lifting his head so he could stare at Elizabeths grinning face again. "How did you meet Kurts daddy?" Her eyes widened to the size of saucers, and her and Laurice shared a look of shock, followed by a quick laugh.
When she turned back to Blaine, her eyes were glowing with humor, "Well... you see, it was quite silly. It was nine years ago... I was practically a teenager. I was on tour for one of my first Broadway shows. I wanted to see some of Ohio, so I went around the streets, and Kurts daddy and I ran into each other." Laurice snorted, and Elizabeth rolled her eyes at her, "Laurice claims that he did it on purpose so he could talk to a pretty girl, but I still say it was an accident." She crossed her arms and stuck her tongue out at her snickering sister, then went back to her story, "Well, he was so nervous around me, and he just blurted out that hed like to see me again. It was so endearing that I had to say yes, so we went on a date. A few months later, he asked me to marry him. He told me that he knew exactly what he wanted, and I thought he was kind, so I agreed. That was all I really wanted... a kind man who could appreciate me. Soon after that, we got married. But, we were both so busy that we didnt have time to try to conceive, and I was sad because I thought Id never have a child. But, four years after wed married, I went to one of my dance practices and felt rather faint and queasy to my stomach. I found out that I was pregnant... that we were having a beautiful, baby boy... and I was so very excited! I thought that was wonderful news. And, nine months later, I got the one thing I had always wished for with all my heart."
Blaine watched Kurt and his mom snuggle closer together, looks of absolute bliss on both of their faces, and he suddenly felt a sadness deep in his stomach because his mom had never shown affection for him. He wanted a mom to hold him and cuddle with him and kiss him when he was upset, and Elizabeth must have sensed all of that because she immediately wrapped an arm around him and pulled him close. "My beautiful babies." She whispered to them, and he and Kurt both smiled from ear to ear.
"Daddy!" A tiny voice screeched in his ear, making him groan and flip over onto his stomach as he yanked a pillow over his head. He felt a few pats on his back, then heard huffing and puffing as his screaming baby made the trek all the way up to the top of the bed. After he climbed his way up the sheets, pulling most of them off of Blaine and spilling them onto the floor, he flopped onto his back and kept patting. From beside of him, he heard soft giggles, but they were quickly drowned out to Blaines ears by another scream, "Daddy!" The pillow was suddenly lifted from his head, and Blaine opened his eyes as he tried to find it again. A pair of big, blue eyes peered back at him, peeking under his protective pillow. "Daddy, are you sleeping?"
Blaine tried not to grin at his sons funny question, as if anyone could sleep with that yelling in his ear. Dropping his head to the mattress, he pretended to snore, which made Archer shake him until he almost fell off the bed. "Daddy!" He howled, and his whines were soon joined by another babys cries, another small body tackling him. Blaine grunted at all of the weight sitting on his back, his eyes flying open. Without a warning, he flipped over, sending the babies rocking off of him.
He grabbed the first squealer and blew on his belly, making him laugh and squirm. "Youre a noisy, little thing, arent you?" He chuckled against his babys belly, looking up into his blue eyes that were sparkling with humor. "But Im too tired to get up yet. Five more minutes, baby." Resting his head on Archers stomach, he closed his eyes again and faked a yawn, even though all of his tiredness had left him the moment hed first jerked awake because of the screaming. He snored again, which immediately set Archer into a panic.
"Daddy, its Disneyland!" He shrieked, writhing to get free from Blaine. A moment later, the baby was slid from underneath him, and he raised his head and gave his husband a grin. Kurt, who was holding a jittery Archer, returned that playful grin, then turned to Archer and gave him a kiss to his pudgy cheek.
"Oh, Blaine, look at his little face." Kurt cooed to Archer, bouncing him up and down. "This is the face of a little boy who wants to have so much fun today. And his daddy will miss it if hes too lazy!" When Blaines grin slowly widened, so did Kurts. "Archer, tell your knucklehead of a daddy to get out of bed!"
Archer stuck his tongue out at Blaine, "Daddys being silly!" Flailing to get off the bed, he ran away when Kurt set him on his feet. He met up with Hunter, and the two of them bounced and hopped as if in some secret conversation.
Blaine finally stretched out his muscles, feeling Kurts hand come to his back and massage out some of the knots. He groaned at how good it felt, rolling over onto Kurts lap and staring up at his amused face. Giving his husband a twisted smirk, he reached up to smooth a fallen hair, loving the feeling of that lock brushing his knuckles. "That was the meanest thing youve ever said to me, my Kurt."
Kurt gave him an innocent look, and he reached down and looped his arms around Blaines neck. He bent to kiss him, squeaking when Blaine rolled them over so he could be on top. "Well, you are my knucklehead! Youre the most stubborn man Ive ever met! Now, up, up, my sleepy man! Youll break the childrens hearts if you make them wait any longer!" That made Blaine chuckle, and the two of them kissed again, but pulled apart when they heard a gagging noise. Hunter was making a foul face at them, which made Kurt burst into laughter. "I think Hunters a jealous boy. Blaine, give him a kiss to make him feel much better!"
"Gross!" Hunter yelled, hurrying away from Blaine when he jumped from the bed and darted after him. "No, Daddy! No kisses!" He scrambled away from Blaine and hid behind the dresser, but Blaine snatched him up before he could completely disappear and smacked his cheek with a wet kiss. Choking and swatting at his cheek, he spat, "It burns! Im melting!"
Laughing at his best friend, Archer waited until Blaine put his kicking and hissing best friend down to peck his cheek with a kiss, making him become as still as a statue. "I like kisses." Archer told Hunter, who glared up at him through narrowed eyes as if he was trying to figure something out. Blaine was about to ask him what was wrong, but Keegan walked in the room, drawing Hunters attention away from the kisses.
Going over to the dresser after his babies had surrounded Keegan, Blaine opened the top drawer and pulled out a pair of jeans and a gray jacket. He carried his things into the bathroom, and, after hed changed and scrubbed his teeth, he strode back out and called his children over to the door. When they scurried over to him, he bent down and smoothed their clothes, rumpled from their endless playing, "Okay, darlings, were just going a few floors down to get breakfast. Youll get to meet your favorite people from your cartoons."
Archer perked up at that, "Were meeting the princesses?" He hopped on his toes, but settled down when Blaine shook his head.
"Not right now, honey. But Daddy promises that youll see the princesses a thousand times before we leave." He held his smallest finger out for Archer, who tried to wrap his around it. He could only fit some of Blaines finger in his, and Blaine smiled at how tiny his hands were. When Archer frowned and looked at his feet, Blaine leaned closer to him and put his hand under his chin, lifting his head back up, "Sweetheart, I think I remember your père talking about how he wanted to take you to a spa day with the princesses."
Archers little mouth fell open, and he whipped around and stared at Kurt with huge eyes. Letting out a shriek of happiness when Kurt smiled at him, he scrambled over to him and hugged his legs very tightly. Kurt picked the baby up, and he rested him on his hip, bouncing him every few seconds.
Looking away from the giddy baby, Blaine turned his attention to Hunter, who was gazing up at Archer. He held his hand out for his son, "Come on, baby. Lets go down to get some breakfast." When Hunter still didnt tear his eyes from Archer, he stroked his thin shoulder, "Honey, what do you think about me, you, and your uncle doing whatever youd like while theyre at their spa day?" Hunter finally turned to him, so he knew hed caught his interest. Lifting his baby, he draped him across his shoulder and patted his butt. He started walking out the door as he chewed his bottom lip, coming up with something to please Hunter. "Lets think... what could a little boy do in all of Disneyland? We could see a parade... or eat a lot of food. We could go on your favorite ride a hundred times. What do you want to do, Hunt?"
Hunters grip tightened on Blaines jacket, his fist getting tense with his sudden enthusiasm, "I want to see the cars, Daddy! The talking cars! Beep!" He threw his fists up, and Blaine squeezed him much tighter, grinning at how animated he was about the noises that cars made.
"Anything for my precious baby." Blaine assured him, stepping onto the elevator and turning to face his husband, who was in a conversation with Archer about all of the good things that would come of their spa day. Keegan was right on Kurts heels, a pair of chattering birds on his shoulder. Blaine wondered what they were talking about, his mind going to a thousand amusing places of what his two birds would gossip about.
When they got down to the lobby, Blaine wrapped his hand around his husbands waist, keeping a tight grip on Hunter with his other hand. They walked into the busy lobby that was packed with people checking in, or discussing their schedules for the day, or rushing out the doors to get to the rides. Blaine led his family over to an empty spot in the crowds of people, and he brought them outside, where he instantly found the restaurant. He took his family over to it and pushed on the door, greeted by the echoes of conversations and the scents of sweet syrup and sour jellies.
Just as he was about to take his family over to the podium so they could go back to a table, Hunter suddenly stiffened in his arms, and a tiny finger poked out. "Its Goofy! Goofy!" Twisting around so he could see Archer, who was playing with a ribbon on Kurts dress, he flailed his hands and kicked his feet to get his attention. "Arch, look! Its Goofy!"
Blaine laughed at his bouncing son, "Do you want to go see him, baby? Hes funny in your cartoons, isnt he? Maybe hell tell you a joke if youre lucky." Setting Hunter down and watching him skitter around in a circle, he glanced back at Archer, who was staring at Goofy with sad eyes. "Honey, do you want to give Goofy a hug? I know hed like your hugs. You give the best hugs." He took his baby from Kurt and started to put him down by Hunter, who was still running around, but he hid his face in Blaines shirt.
Kurt made a soft sound, and he reached out to stroke the part of Archers speckled cheek that was showing. Archer burrowed deeper into Blaine. "Sweetheart, whats wrong? You remember Goofy! He was the silly one in your cartoons. You always laughed at him. Hes nothing to be frightened of."
A pair of blue eyes appeared, and then a pink lip popped out, the same way that Kurt stuck his bottom lip out when he was upset. "I dont know if hell like me. What if he gets mad at me?"
Shaking his head, Blaine kissed Archers forehead, a gentle peck that helped soothe him, "My little beauty, no one could ever be mad at you. Youre my sweet baby... as sweet as candy." He knelt to the floor and put Archer on his feet, patting his bottom so he would waddle over to Hunter, who had stopped darting in and out of Keegans legs at the alarm of how upset his best friend was. He gave him an encouraging smile when he looked over his shoulder, brows ruffled and lips pulled down in a small frown. "Why dont you hold Hunters hand? Would that make you feel better?"
Hunter held his hand out for Archer, who looked at it with curious eyes before putting his in the middle of Hunters palm. Pulling Archer close for a quick hug, Hunter gave him a fierce look, one that made Kurt giggle. "Youll be okay, Arch. Im tough! Uncle Keegan said so. I wont let nothing bad happen to you!"
When Hunter tugged him along, Archer whipped around and grabbed for Blaine. Blaine tried to calm his nerves again, "Daddys right here, sweetheart." Feeling a small hand rub his shoulder, he glanced up at Kurt, whose eyes were crinkled with happiness. He got to his feet and pulled his husband to his chest.
Kurts shoulders shook with laughter, and he caressed Blaines jaw, a brush of his hand across his hard skin, "Youre the best daddy ever, my Blaine. Look at them! Archers being so brave." Blaine focused on his babies again, Hunter holding his hand up for Goofy to pat, and Archer shuffling his feet a few inches away from them. A moment later, Hunter made a motion for Archer to come closer, then he took Archers little hand in his. The biggest grin overwhelmed his face, and he hopped up and down, proudly showing off his best friend. Goofy leaned down to hug Archer, one of his gloves as big as Archers entire body, and Blaine felt his heart jump when Archer smiled and looped his arms around Goofys neck.
When he let go of Goofy, he squealed and spun around in a circle, then met Blaines kind eyes. He held his arms up and skipped back over to Blaine, jumping onto his legs and knocking him back a step. Chuckling at his celebrating son, Blaine bent down and scooped him up, giving him a gentle kiss, "Im so proud of you, baby. You were wonderful!" Archer shyly tucked his head under Blaines chin as Kurt rubbed his back, but then a freckled nose poked out, a pair of huge eyes peeking up at Blaine. He gave a screech of delight when Blaine hid his face behind his hand, then opened his fingers and peered at Archer between the cracks. Surprising Archer with a peck to his cheek, Blaine laughed when Archers little mouth fell open. "Daddy can see you, baby." He told his demure son, and Archer snuggled closer to him, relieved to hear that he was always noticed by his dad.
When Hunters stomach growled, Blaine looked down at his other baby, watching him eye the platters of food with longing. He turned back to Archer and smoothed the curly mess of hair on his head-a pile of hair that no amount of brushing could tame, "Sweetheart, are you hungry? After we eat, we can go ride whatever you want. Does that sound good, baby?" When Archer bobbed his head up and down, Blaine reached down for Hunters hand and took his babies up to the podium, hearing Keegan and Kurt right on his heels. They were led back to a table where Blaine put Archer and Hunter down, then sat down by his husband. Keegan sat down on the end of the table, and he put his hand on Hunters shoulder and rubbed it. Soon after they sat down, a waiter came by to get their drinks, and Blaine got water for himself and asked for milk for the babies, while Keegan and Kurt wanted fruit juices.
After the waiter left, Blaine stood up again and helped his babies from their chairs, holding both of their hands as they teetered over to the buffet. Blaine picked up a biscuit for himself, and a few grapes and an apple, then grabbed a waffle and pancake that were shaped like Mickey for the babies. By the time he got back to the table, their drinks were already there, and it took his husband and Keegan another minute to return. He set his babies back down, then dragged their plate closer to himself so he could cut up the waffle and pancake into tiny bites. After he smeared some butter onto the pieces and smothered them in syrup, he pushed the plate back over to them. Hunter poked his fork into a waffle piece and stuck it into his mouth, the syrup dripping onto his chin, so Blaine wiped his face with a napkin. "Eat slower, honey." He turned back to his own plate, but he looked up every few seconds to make sure his babies were still okay.
By his own parents standards, he knew he was unbelievably overprotective, and he was wasting time that he could have spent doing something to benefit himself, but when he had such beautiful babies, he didnt see how he could do anything but devote himself to them. When the characters started coming around to visit his babies and, each time, Hunter and Archer got a little more excited, Kurt reached out for him and draped his hand across his. He gave his palm a soft squeeze, and Blaine glanced over at him, meeting his shimmering eyes. Kurt didnt say anything, but when he looked back at the babies and giggled as they hugged Pluto, Blaine knew they were thinking the same thing. He laid his head on Kurts, feeling a sigh of relief come up his throat and slip out of his mouth. "Theyre so beautiful." He wasnt sure if he whispered that more to himself or to Kurt, but Kurt smiled, anyway.
"They have a lot of you in them." Kurt murmured very quietly, and Blaine turned his head, trying to understand his reasoning. "It takes time for Archer to trust... hes so quiet, but hes nice, too. He could never be harsh with anyone. And Hunters so feisty! Hes very protective, too. He could never do Archer wrong. You know a funny thing?" He rested his hands on Blaines shoulder, his silky hands rubbing small circles on Blaines tight skin, and he nuzzled under his jaw. Blaines rough stubble scratched Kurts delicate skin. "The two of us were raised together as children... We didnt spend a moment apart! And we loved each other with a deep passion, I remember." When he looked up at Blaine, his eyes were much brighter than before. "You dont think the two of them would have the same lucky fate that we did, do you? Except I wouldnt want them separated for years! Those years were torturous."
Blaine blinked at his husband, and then at his babies, suddenly seeing them the way Kurt saw them, grown and still loving with each other. But then his mind rejected the idea, not because he had anything against his babies finding their happily ever after in the same way he and Kurt did-he might have actually preferred it that way, so no outsider boys could break their hearts-but because he didnt want to think about his babies leaving him to make their own lives. He couldnt stand to think about the day that he wouldnt have them anymore. Clearing his throat a few times, Blaine touched his husbands hair, moving a fallen piece back into place, "I think theyre too young to plan their wedding now." That was all he said on the matter, and Kurt let it go, much to his relief. He had absolutely no interest in imagining what might be their futures, of Kurt scurrying around and tossing flowers wherever he went, so excited for the coming wedding, and Hunter trying his best to get his suit to fit him because he was so tall and skinny, and Archer asking Blaine to hug him before he went out and got married, but getting nothing out of it but disappointment because Blaine knew that if he hugged him he would cry.
No, he couldnt think like that. Swallowing the sudden rush of breath that burst from his chest, he choked and stared down at his lap. They were still his babies, and that was the only thought that kept Blaine from strangling on his own tears. He knew that one day he would have to face this, but not now. Not right now. Trying to keep himself collected, he lifted his head and gave his babies a painted grin, something he had to draw onto his face himself. "Honeys, are your bellies stuffed?"
Hunter waved his hands at Blaine, obviously asking to be picked up. "Yeah! Daddy, can we go to a ride now?" Getting to his feet, Blaine walked around the table and scooped his babies up. Both of them pawed at each other when they met in the middle of Blaines chest. "Arch, what do you want to ride first?" As Blaine carried his children out of the restaurant, Archer thought of the first place hed like to go.
When they got outside, Archer patted Blaines cheek, "Daddy, do you think we could visit Winnie the Pooh? Would he like a visit from me? I could bring him honey if that would make him like me better!"
Cooing over his son, Blaine rubbed their cheeks and said, "Baby, I think Winnie would love a visit from a boy whos as sweet as honey. He might nibble your fingers because he thinks youre so tasty!" He lifted Archers dimpled hand and teasingly gnawed on his fingers, making him laugh and wriggle.
"Dont eat me, Daddy!" Archer screeched, kicking his feet and jabbing Blaines stomach with his shoes.
The walk over to the ride took about fifteen minutes, the babies twisting this way and that to admire everything they passed, from the bushes that were trimmed to look like Mickeys ears to the water fountains that sprayed the sky with a mist that rained down on them. The babies loved clapping at the water that blew in their direction, trying to catch it in their hands as if they would keep it as a souvenir forever and ever. Blaine wondered if his children could be any more adorable, and then they perked up at the sound of the cheerful music echoing from the ride they were heading to.
Their eyes widened to the size of saucers at the sight of Winnie, who was painted onto a sign that hung above the entrance to the ride. Kurt celebrated with them, reaching out for Archer and touching his shoulders. "Sweetheart, hes waving at you! Hes saying hello! Blow him a big kiss! Winnie loves sweet kisses!" Archer cheerfully waved at Winnie while Hunter squirmed to get on the ride, then he did as Kurt said and smacked his hand to his lips. He blew Winnie a kiss, keeping his eyes on him as Blaine carried him into the waiting queue.
There were only about five families in front of them, so it didnt take long for them to get a honey car. Keegan helped Kurt into the back because Blaines hands were still full, and Blaine climbed in front and set his babies down next to him. After the bar lowered over them and they rocked forward, Hunter leaned as far forward as he could and held his hands up, "Yay! I want to see Tigger! Bounce! Bounce!" Wiggling around in his seat, Hunter grinned when Kurt looped his arms around him from behind. Kurt happily hummed along with the silly music in the background, but when they burst from the leaves and bushes and came across a windy and rainy room, he gasped and squeezed his eyes shut.
Smirking at his husband, Blaine also covered his face, making it clear that he was worried, "Oh, no! Everyones getting blown away! Hold onto me tight, Archer!"
Archer burst into giggles, but he held onto Blaine, anyway, "Daddys being silly!" When they suddenly went over a bump, he leaned against Blaine as if he was afraid that he would fall out. Blaine opened his eyes and instantly saw Tigger, but he didnt stay in his vision for long because he bounced to another spot. Beside of him, Hunter screamed for Tigger, who he seemed to favor over everyone else in the Hundred Acre Wood. Soon after Tigger went away, they were whisked into a dark area where Pooh faded away.
The darkness quickly flashed to bright colors, Heffalumps and Woozles springing out at them. Archers little hand tightened on his sleeve, and he tried to turn his head into Blaines jacket without being obvious about it. He made a soft sound when one of the Heffalumps came dangerously close to them, so Blaine wrapped his arm around him and pulled him to his chest. "Shh... Daddys got you, sweetheart. See, its over now! Poohs celebrating his birthday. Tell him happy birthday!"
Archer lifted his cheek from Blaines chest, and he looked around for any leftover Woozles or Heffalumps that had followed them out. When he didnt find any, he gave Pooh a big grin and wave, "Happy birthday, Winnie! Bye bye! Ill miss you lots!" Blaine soon decided that his children couldnt be more perfect, and he squeezed his son tightly and decorated his round cheeks in kisses as they got around to the exit.
When the bar lifted to let them out, Blaine stepped onto the concrete and bent to collect his babies, who were both holding their arms up. He set them down so they could scurry around for a few minutes and stretch their legs, and Hunter wiggled his butt, doing a little dance as he grabbed a handful of Blaines pant leg and hurried after his long strides. "I wasnt scared when we got swept away by the wind! Or when that Heffalump was giving us mean looks!" He scrunched his face and squinted one eye so he could look just like the Heffalump, and Archer quickly scampered to Blaines other side, avoiding Hunters scary faces.
"Neither was I!" Archer squeaked, batting for Blaines hand to hold. "But Daddy was afraid! He closed his eyes!"
Smirking at his son, Blaine scrubbed his curls, making a few of them fall onto his wrinkled nose. "Its a good thing my brave boy was there to protect me."
Hunter, who had darted ahead a few inches, suddenly turned around, and he grabbed Archers arm. "But Daddys not afraid of anything. Remember when we had creepy monsters under our bed," he held up two tiny hands in the shapes of claws and bared his teeth, "and Daddy chased them off? He made you feel better because you were sad. You were crying. I remember because seeing Archer sad makes me sad! Daddy, youre scared of nothing, right?" He shot Blaine a knowing look, his eyes narrowed as if he was expecting Blaine to tell him that he was invincible, that nothing made him tremor with fear, when, if he forced himself to be honest, it was a fight just to keep himself from falling apart each day. If only they remembered months ago, when theyd only been newborns, and the misery that Blaine had gone through, a heartbreak from the dreadful fear that Kurt was gone for good.
With each day that had passed, hed gotten sicker, weaker, closer to death as he tried to banish himself from existence. Looking back on it now, he felt like hed always known, somewhere deep down, that he and Kurt would end up together, that their love would be too strong to keep them apart for much longer. But he hadnt known that at the time when hed been sobbing into his pillow because he thought that Kurt had cheated on him-a ridiculous idea now that he had a clear head to consider how much Kurt truly loved him, and hed been so terribly scared that hed never hold Kurt again that he had taken to imagining that other men were Kurt. And if only they had been there before they were even born, watching Karofskys fists pound into his skin as a punishment for the feelings that he had for Kurt that he couldnt have stopped even if hed tried.
If only they could get into his head that was messed up from the torture that Karofsky had inflicted on him, and all the times his dad had ignored him, and, worst of all, the ways hed been threatened to have his babies and his Kurt taken from him. If only they could see that, and then they would understand. Blaine had to remind himself to ask Kurt if he could read his mind because he seemed to understand everything that Blaine was thinking. He wrapped his arms around Blaines neck and pecked his cheek, "Youre okay." He whispered to him, and Blaine believed him, as he always did.
He didnt answer Hunters question, but he laid his hand on his back and guided him over to the gift shop, which the exit to the ride led them into. Archer delighted in looking at the shirts and coffee mugs and pens, all with Winnie the Pooh somewhere on them, but when they passed by a shelf of stuffed Winnie the Pooh dolls, he paused in step, making Hunter bump into him. A second later, Hunter let out a shriek of glee and rushed past Archer to get to the stuffed Tigger. He picked him up and shook him, trying to make him bounce, and then he stuck his ear in his slobbery mouth. Blaine smirked at that, knowing that they wouldnt be leaving the gift shop without that Tigger doll. Anything Hunter really liked, he usually put in his mouth.
Rubbing their heads until Hunter glared at him because he had to fix his spiky hair, Blaine held his hand out for their dolls, "Do you want Daddy to buy those for you?" His babies set their dolls in the middle of his hand, and Blaine was more than relieved when he finally paid and got Hunters wet Tigger out of his hand. As soon as he handed it back to him, it went back into his mouth, and he kept chewing on the ear. He took his babies out of the gift shop and jumped when they screamed for Winnie and Tigger, who were standing at the front of the ride. "Go on, babies." He told them, and both of them hurried away, going over to their favorite characters and giving them hugs.
Archer was just a little shy around Winnie, but his face brightened when Pooh pointed out his doll that looked exactly like him. Blaine smiled when his son told him to have a happy birthday and gave him a hug, then he turned his attention to Hunter, who was doing a dance and showing off his doll to Tigger. Tigger pretended to gasp at the similarities, which made Hunter laugh, and then he bounced to see if the other Tigger could bounce, too. Hunter tried to make his Tigger bounce.
A moment later, Archer came back to Blaine, which drew his attention away from Hunter. When he looked back up, he saw Hunter coming at him as fast as he could. "Daddy, he liked my little Tigger! He was jealous of his good looks at first, but I told him that they look exactly the same! Silly Tigger!" He held his hands up for Blaine, which showed that his legs were a little weaker after running around all day. When Archer yawned and scrubbed his eyes with two fists, Blaine bent and gathered him up, too.
Blaine smiled at his children, both of them a bit woozy. At home, they could usually last about four or five hours on a lazy day, so Blaine imagined that they must have been quite worn out after a busy morning. "Did you have a good morning, honeys? Why dont we go back to the hotel for a nap. Well put on a movie and you can sleep with your new dolls."
Hunter frowned up at him, even though his frown was interrupted by a yawn that stretched his wide mouth out. "Naps arent any fun, Daddy."
Laying his head on Blaines chest, Archer squeezed his Winnie doll and said very softly, "I like naps. But, Daddy, when were not sleepy anymore, can we come back out and play until it gets dark and its time to go night night?"
"Whatever you want, baby." Blaine headed in the direction of one of the snack stands that sold yogurt, a light snack that would hold the babies over while they slept and wouldnt upset their bellies when they woke up. After he ordered two yogurts with fruit and two milks, he gave them to Keegan, then turned his attention to his babies. "We can have dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. Youll like that restaurant. The tables are in the middle of the jungle! You can ride Dumbo if youd like. You can visit Peter Pan... and maybe the dolls in Its a Small World. I think youd like that ride. You know that song... I used to play it for you when you were infants. It always put Archer to sleep."
The rest of the walk back to the hotel was quiet, both of the babies bobbing their heads and blinking their eyes as they tried to keep their chins up. Blaine was so intent on watching their little faces droop with sleepiness that he hardly noticed theyd gotten there, but he was relieved that they had. His feet were starting to get sore. They rode the elevator up to their room, where Blaine kicked off his shoes and sat down on the bed. Keegan went about putting in Winnie the Pooh for the two tired babies while Kurt freshened up in the bathroom, spraying his hair again and reapplying his lip gloss. Once he had the babies settled in, Blaine held their milk up for them to drink, then spooned a few bites of fruity yogurt into their mouths. Some of it dripped onto their chins, so Blaine cleaned them up.
He didnt get very far with feeding them before Archer rolled over onto his side, and Hunter soon followed his lead. They cuddled into their fuzzy dolls and grabbed onto each other, as they often slept, and their breathing became even, blowing onto the others face. Archers nose twitched when Hunter exhaled a long breath, making Blaine grin as he laid down beside of them. Other than hearing Keegan sit down and the blankets shuffling as Hunters tiny feet kicked with his dream-probably one where he was bouncing around with Tigger, not much else happened in the room, not that he would have noticed anything different. He was too involved in counting the freckles on Archers cheeks and nose.
When he heard someone gasp from behind him, he twisted around and blinked at his husband, who was gazing at him and the babies with huge, damp eyes. Kurt gave him the prettiest smile, and he batted his lashes, trying to brush away the tears, "Oh, Blaine, how are the most amazing boys mine? Ive never been so happy!" Blaine returned his husbands smile with one of his own, and he held his hand out for Kurt. The two of them snuggled close together, admiring their sleeping children and hoping they could wake them with kisses.
