Author's Notes: Do not own glee. Sorry it took so long to uplload but here it is.
The drive back to Dalton was fairly painless. Both boys sat humming along to the radio while thinking about the coffee shop conversation. Blaine still didn’t know what it was about Kurt that made him want to open himself up to Kurt this much but maybe talking about it will be the starting point at healing. Two years too late. Kurt looked nervous. Karofsky knew that Kurt had moved school but luckily the restraining order which the court had placed on him while Kurt was in a coma prevents him by law from finding out. So though the drive finished and they found themselves outside the doors of Dalton. Giving each other a smile Blaine held out his hand encouragingly,
“come on lets go to the warbler common rooms. No one will be there and it will be a great place to start your tour.” Blaine said with a friendly smile.
“Yeah okay,” Kurt replied. Although Kurt felt comfortable in Blaine’s presence there was something about this school at first which unsettled Kurt.
Once sitting in the warbler common room, Blaine explained that this is where they met to practice and discuss set lists. Also it is just where they come to chill when things get rough or they just want to be alone. For this instance though, Blaine has brought Kurt here to open up old wounds for the both of them. There was something about Kurt that made Blaine comfortable. Usually it took him a while to open up to him but there was something about Kurt. “So… previously I went to a public school in Westerville not far from here. I think everyone was a little shocked that I came out. Firstly I mean come on this is Ohio your life is bound to be shit but another thing is I guess because I was kind of sporty and not really the stereotypical gay, but anyway. I came out and as you can guess, everything went down from there.” Blaine felt a gentle hand on his.
“You don’t have to tell me, I don’t want you to be uncomfortable.” Blaine gave Kurt a reassuring smile.
“It’s okay. I need to, you know it might help me to heel after all this time. “Kurt nodded his head. “So anyway, I came out to my best friend Tyler at the time. I thought that you know because he was my best friend he would be supportive you know, but nope. He was freaked out and said that he didn’t want to be associated with a fag like me. “Kurt let out a sharp gasp, “so anyway,” Blaine continued “by Monday of course it was all round the school and things just went downhill from there. I didn’t even get to come out to my parents. The mother of one of the boys at school came round to our house as they were conserved and told my parents there and then that their youngest son was gay. My mother well she cried but she has never been to forward about how much I disgust her. My father though. He beat me at first. Couldn’t go to school for a few days due to the bruises.” Blaine could see tears form in Kurt’s eyes,
“That is horrible! You shouldn’t beat your children. That’s just barbaric!” Kurt exclaimed. “So what happened? What made you transfer to Dalton?”
“There was a Sadie Hawkins dance. My friend Thomas was the only other out kid at school so we went together as friends…”
*************
(Flashback)
“See blaine, it wasn’t so bad. No one mocked us and we got to have a great time like everyone else.” Thomas said to Blaine,
“Just because they didn’t say anything to our faces, doesn’t mean they were not mocking us.” Blaine retorted. “What time is you dad picking us up anyway?” he said gently,
“oh he should be on his way come on lets go wait out front for him.” Blaine knew that holding hands was risky and that it could cause trouble but friends hold hands all the time. It doesn’t mean anything. “I’m glad we went together Blaine,” Thomas said shyly. “I have been meaning to tell you this for a while so yeah, I’m in love with you.”
“what?!” Blaine said shocked. “I thought we were just friends? Thom you know I like you as a friend but I don’t like you like that I’m sorry.” Blaine replied not smiling.
“It’s okay, I know you didn’t I just thought I would tell you.” Thomas was interrupted
“hey fag, what are you still doing here you stupid fairies.”
“Leave us alone!” Blaine exclaimed.
“What was that fairy? You want us to leave you alone? Well we can’t do that can we? We came to set you straight. There is no place for fags like you at this school.” Junior, the head basketball player, sneered.
“Look junior, me and blaine are just waiting for my dad so please just leave us alone. We are not doing anything wrong,” Thomas said. Suddenly Blaine felt a sharp pang on his head. Falling down he heard Thomas scream “Blaine!” he tried to sit up but everything was getting foggy. Just managing to open his eyes, he witnessed Tyler, the guy who was supposed to be his friend only weeks before beat the crap out of Thomas.
“Stop!” Blaine tried to yell “please just stop.” He couldn’t see properly his head was hurting too much and tears were blocking his vision.”
“That was all I could remember,” blaine said to kurt, “I woke up a few days later in hospital my mother was just looking at me, like she couldn’t recognise me, and my father.” Blaine’s voice started to choke “my father he just stared at me he said that I got what was coming to me. That’s what happens to gay people in Ohio. That I deserved it. The next thing I knew, I was enrolled at Dalton. By my mother’s request.”
“Oh blaine that is horrible.” Kurt said tear streaks clear on his cheeks.
“It’s fine. Well it is not but you know what I mean. I’m getting better. Sometimes talking about it is the first step.” Blaine said smiling at Kurt. “I asked how Thomas was a couple of days later. My brother cooper, he told me that Thomas died. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His face was barely recognisable. It was his dad that found us. The school said that there was nothing they could do, there were no witnesses and it was not on school grounds. All the guys denied it and Tyler out of guilt killed himself a few days later.” Blaine said wiping his eyes.
“I don’t trust people very easily Blaine. But there is something about you that makes me trust you.” Kurt paused, “I want to tell you my story. It is not as bad as yours but it’s mine. I think your right. Talking about it will be the first step to healing.
“Okay.” Blaine said
“do you mind if it waits till tomorrow though?” Kurt asked “we could go for another coffee. I just think I have had too much emotional impact today it would be better to wait.”
“Yeah that will be fine” Blaine reassured Kurt. “Tell me when you are ready. Just remember, courage.” Blaine replied. Kurt just smiled he gave Blaine a hug.
“Come on we can watch a movie in my room if you want? I’ve got Disney, action a few chick-flicks and a lot of musicals.” Kurt laughed.
“You had me at Disney” Blaine replied. Both boys smiled at each other and walked towards Kurt’s room.
