"Dad.. No, dad!" Kurt Hummel screamed and yanked away from the two doctors holding him back. He ran to his cold, dead father who was laying on the bed like he was just sleeping. But he wasn't. "Dad! Dad, wake up!" Kurt sobbed into the sheets, while the doctors grabbed him again. "NO!" He screamed.
Kurt, 13, twisted and turned in his uncomfortable bed.
"Let me go!" Kurt snarled, but he writhed in the doctors' hands until he fell to the ground in a heap of tears. "He's.. G-gone.." He whispered behind tears. "I can't.." Young, nine year old, Kurt Hummel was dragged from the hospital and outside, where he was shushed and comforted until no one knew what to do anymore.
Kurt kicked and thrashed, knocking his pillows off the bed.
"Honey, are you okay?" A strange woman asked Kurt. Kurt simply stared at her through tear filled eyes. His blue eyes were drained, now a murky, grey color. Anyone who dared stare at him would recieve an unpleasant glare. "Kurt, sweetie.." She placed her hand on Kurt's, and Kurt felt the warmth of his deceased mother in her.
"Mom!" Kurt screamed in his sleep, unaware that he was waking all the other kids in his room. They stared at him as he continued to dream.
"No! I'm not okay!" Kurt Hummel stomped his foot at the lady. "I won't be okay! My daddy is gone, my mommy is gone, my doggy is gone! I want to be happy again! Why can't I be happy again!? Tell me that and I'll be okay!" The woman stared at him, mouth wide open. She reached forward to hug Kurt, but he flinched away and growled at her.
"Kurt?" A girl's voice came through the darkness. "Kurt, Kurt, wake up!"
"Yeah, dude!" Another voice said.
"He's crying!"
"Good," a voice snickered. There was a loud smack. "Ow! Fuck you, Quinn!"
"Fuck me?" The first girl's voice said. "I dare you!" There was rustling heard as she escaped her sheets. She poked Kurt's cheek. "Kurt?"
Kurt was ushered to a new lady, who loomed over him with an evil-like grin. "Hello there, Mr. Hummel." She smirked, eyes dark. Kurt stared at her. She was wearing ugly clothes and had an ugly face and ugly hair and she was just ugly anyway.
".. Ugly.." Kurt murmured, turning in his bed. He knocked Quinn off and she fell to the ground with a crash.
"He called me ugly!" Quinn exclaimed.
"Because you are," the snickering voice pointed out, laughing.
"Guys!" A tiny voice called. "We're gonna get in trouble!"
"Oh, shut up, Sugar!"
"Make me, Puck!"
"H-Hi," young Kurt Hummel stammered as he looked up at the ugly lady. "I.. I'm scared," he voiced aloud, and the adults around him shook with soft laughter. Kurt felt himself get angry. Why were they laughing at him? He didn't deserve to be laughed at! He had no family, and now he was getting picked on by these big meanies?
"You're a jerk, Puck," Quinn said. "Shut up, both of you. Kurt's dreaming, I think!"
"About what?" Sugar asked.
"Who cares?" Puck growled. "I just wanna sleep."
"Oh, put a sock in it, boy!"
"Mercedes? You're awake?"
"Yes!" Mercedes said. "What's wrong with Kurt?"
Kurt felt warm tears slide down his cheeks as he woke up. "Dad?" He asked into the darkness.
"Kurt!" The voices chorused.
Kurt blinked his eyes open, clearing tears and adjusting to the darkness. He saw the dark outline of Mercedes, the skinny frame of Quinn, the small figure and pigtails on Sugar, and the mohawk sticking from Puck's head. He smiled lightly. "Hey, guys."
"We thought you died and had a heart attack!" Sugar piped.
"No we didn't," Quinn rolled her eyes. "He's thirteen, dufus. He can't have a heart attack."
"I think it's possible," Mercedes shrugged.
"Well-" Quinn cut in. "We thought you were having a bad dream."
"I.. I was," Kurt admitted. "About my father.. Well, my parents, and coming to the orphanage. I remembered how ugly Ms. Chava was.. But.. I remembered my parents death.."
The room went silent. Everyone at the orphanage knew what he meant. Everyone there had lost their family, parents, or gaurdians. That's how they ended up together. Someone always had a bad dream about long lost ones. It was common. "I'm sorry guys," Kurt finally whispered. "I didn't mean to wake you all up."
"It's okay," Sugar piped up. "I love being woken up. I had a dream last night about a bunch of red ants trying to.." She launched into her dream, but Kurt was barely listening. He stared outside the window, staring at the moonlit city. He sighed sadly, dreaming of a happy home with two parents, a brother, a sister, a dog or cat.. Just a family. A family is all Kurt ever wanted, what he ever dreamed of.
"Kurt, what about you?" Mercedes' voice cut into his dreaming.
"What?" Kurt asked, jumping. "I'm sorry.. I.. I wasn't paying attention."
"What do you want in a family?"
"I have a family," Kurt said. "You guys. Sugar, Puck, Mercedes, Quinn.. You're all I've ever wanted. I could stay here at the orphanage all my life."
"We're gonna get adopted some day, though," Sugar pointed out. "I bet my mom will be beautiful."
"I want a brother," Kurt finally said. "A brother and a dog."
Quinn, Puck, Mercedes and Sugar all nodded in agreement as they set their heads down to rest for the night.
"A brother and a dog," Kurt repeated softly, before plopping back into bed. He closed his eyes, seeing a black, fluffy dog jump around his feet in a backyard. He saw two parents watching him and his.. Older brother lovingly. Kurt woke up suddenly. He couldn't sleep at all. He saw Mercedes fiddling with her pillow, Sugar sucking her thumb, Quinn snoring softly, and Puck half off the bed. Kurt waited until everyone was asleep, before climbing to the ground from his top bunk. He got down on his knees, in front of the window, and shut his eyes tight.
"Dear Lord," he whispered. "I don't even know if you're there, or if you're listening or whatever.. I don't usually pray and I don' know how to do this. But if you're up there, watching me or potecting me or whatever you do.. I.. I want to ask you a favor." He paused, taking a deep breath. "I pretty, pretty, pretty super ooper please want a family. A nice one. With a brother and a dog." Kurt opened his eyes with a startled gasp as he felt someone crawl beside him.
"Me too," Puck whispered.
"Amen," they chorused.

Aw! I thought it was very sweet :) Especially the end! Tiny, sweet Puck is my favorite!
Me too. I thought I'd make them sweet little preteens and teens. Thanks!
Thanks!
This is so good already. Poor Kurt. I can't wait for more!
The story's interesting! I definitely want to see more. :)
i liked your summary. i think the length of it was fine. and besides, it is what convinced me to stop by and read your first chapter. and i am excited to continue reading this. there are two parts in this chapter that i really liked. 1. i loved how kurt called all of them his family. 2. i liked the closing bit, from kurt's prayer to the end–there was a feeling of hope to kurt's prayer and the others' responses. nice job!
It has great potential, looking forward to some "Bromance". :p.
