“Am I dead?” he asked out loud. It felt a bit dramatic of him.
A stirring sound came from somewhere close and he remembered that Blaine had been with him in the dream.
“Blaine?” He tried to sit up and look around but he was trapped; his leg suddenly shooting with pain any time he moved. He let out a sharp cry.
“Kurt?” asked a groggy voice. “Kurt!” it realized, sounding suddenly more alert.
Blaine looked around him, somehow the fire had been diminished. He couldn’t think of how it could be so, but he was beyond grateful that it was. He crawled towards Kurt who was groaning and trying not to move.
“Kurt,” he sighed. “Thank god.” He stroked the older boy’s hair and touched his forehead with his own.
“My leg,” Kurt whimpered.
Blaine looked down towards the leg that Kurt was referring to, the one he was holding. He scrambled clumsily down the pained boy’s length and found that the wall had crumbled and landed around them, exempting Kurt’s leg.
“Oh, Kurt,” Blaine whispered, his voice giving way to tears that threatened to form any moment now.
He grabbed the piece of timber and heaved it off the petite boy. Only, the offending material did not yield to the demand of Blaine’s strength.
“Kurt,” he cried. “Kurt, I’m so sorry, I can’t.”
Kurt wanted to cry too. Not for the pain, which was excruciating, but because he hated to hear Blaine crying.
“Blaine,” he said, trying to keep himself together. “Go for help.”
Blaine looked around at the room that once stood with walls and neat rows of chairs. He could see that the whole building had been vacated.
“No,” he refused. He came up to Kurt’s upper half. “No, I’m not leaving you.”
“Blaine, you can’t lift that wall on your own, you need help. And the longer my leg is trapped the more damage is being done. Please.”
Kurt could see Blaine’s heart cracking just by the look in his eyes. He understood; he didn’t want to be left alone. But he knew he had to get out of there soon if he ever wanted to walk again. Blaine nodded mournfully and stroked Kurt’s cheek. And with that he ran off into the night, leaving Kurt lying in the rubble.
