Welcome to Glee

The next day came andBlainefound Kurt standing by his locker with a brown bag and coffee in his hand.

"Good morning Blaine," Kurt said offering the coffee and bag to him whichBlaineaccepted.

"Morning. Thanks for the coffee. I didn't have a chance to have breakfast,"Blaineblushed as he put the goods in his lap to open his locker. He tried to reach for his books without jostling his breakfast but it seemed like an impossible task.

"Let me," Kurt said grabbing for the books that were just too out of reach forBlaine. He carefully put in the books inBlaine's bag on the back of his wheelchair. "I was thinking we could snatch the choir room, eat breakfast there?"

"Yeah, that's perfect,"Blaineagreed and they went to the choir room. They ate in silence for a few minutes until Kurt broke it.

"Coffee yesterday was fun. Except for the fact that my dad was worried sick when I got home. But we should definitely do it again sometime. I had fun," Kurt said taking a bite of his chocolate chip muffin.

"Yeah, my brother Cooper wasn't that ecstatic either but he's got the maturity of a five year old. He got over it," Blaine replied. He was reluctant to talk about Cooper to anyone really. He still couldn't tell who one of Cooper's crazy fans was and who had never heard of his obnoxious brother in the first place.

"Wait, Cooper? Cooper Anderson? You mean the guy on those 'free rating today' commercials?!" Kurt demanded star struck. 'Oh god! He's one of them,' Blaine thought. Blaine confirmed that the person Kurt was talking about was in fact his brother and started to prepare for the screams and demands that usually followed after this confession. Instead, Blaine heard silence. He turned around to see Kurt smiling, though Blaine could tell he was hiding a portion of it from his view.

"I mean that's cool. He's really great and very good look-," Kurt stopped himself before he could say anymore, "I mean. It's cool he's your brother and all." Kurt blushed. He almost came out to Blaine. Something he was not quite ready to do. He knew Blaine wouldn't judge him but he hasn't gotten to know him well enough to know if he'll blab about it or not. Better to be on the safe side. "So does he live here in Lima?"

"No, fortunately he's just visiting. He apparently has an audition for a Michael Bay movie in LA which wouldn't be the first time," Blaine sighed, "but it's nice to have him back."

"I see. Do you help him out with auditions?"

"No. He doesn't think I'm worthy enough to be part of his auditions. I'm not talented enough to be," Blaine spat out with resentment. He thought about every time his brother would put him down, always telling him he wanted better when he showed Cooper his best.

"I think you're talented," Kurt admitted shyly behind his coffee cup. He gave Blaine a soft smile before taking a sip, "You're an amazing singer and everyone in glee likes you, you got to be a great leader too."

Blaine stared at Kurt with wonder. No one had ever complimented him like that. Sure the kids in glee appreciated his talent but no one had ever gotten out of their way to tell Blaine. To make Blaine feel good. Blaine feels like he's starting to fall for this boy. "Thank you Kurt, no one really tells me that."

"Well they're just blind, or deaf. You're really amazing Blaine. I could easily see you making it big. Whether it'd be on a stage with a sold out show or making it big on Broadway. You're gonna do it," Kurt reassured.

Blaine scoffed, "To be on Broadway you gotta dance. To dance, you gotta move," Blaine gestured to where his legs sat on the chair, completely unable to move them.

"Those are just minor details," Kurt waved his hand, "Your voice is gonna overpower that. I promise you that there's not a damn person that wouldn't want you to perform on Broadway if they heard what you can do."

Blaine felt good to hear that coming from Kurt. Although he didn't exactly believe it, it felt good to know that someone did. Everyone reassured him with empty promises but he knew Kurt meant what he said. The sincerity was prominent in his eyes. "Thanks Kurt."

"No problem. What are friends for?" Kurt said placing a hand on Blaine's knee. Blaine couldn't feel the hand, but the touch warmed his heart. The bell rang and the boys said their goodbyes before heading to their classes.

"Hey Blaine," a voice behind Blaine said during his Math class. Blaine spun his chair around to face the voice. It was Finn Hudson, current captain of McKinley's own Titans football team and former glee club male lead. He held the title for two weeks before Blaine came along and decided to join. It was unanimous that everyone in glee wanted to be lead by Blaine than Finn, even Finn himself knew that.

"Hey Finn. Can I help you?"

"Yeah, who was that kid yesterday that auditioned for glee? Kevin was it?" Finn asked curiously in a way that only Finn can do. Blaine didn't know why he was curious though. The only things he was genuinely interested were football, athletes and his drums. Why would a kid like Kurt, someone that probably wasn't interested in those things, interest Finn?

"Um, it's Kurt. Kurt Hummel. May I ask why the sudden interest?" Blaine said with confusion.

"Oh," Finn's raised his eyebrows, "No reason. I just wanted to know. He's really good and a great addition to the team I bet." Finn nodded before looking down on his notebook, the conversation between the two ended.

Blaine was curious, but decided not to say anything else. Finn, although he is seemingly intimidating is really just harmless. Once you knew him, you realize that he has hesitations before even hurting a fly. Whatever he's planning or not planning, it probably wasn't something malicious to Kurt.

The bell rang, signalling the end of the school day. Kurt rushed to put his books away, so he could get to glee on time. He really enjoyed the club yesterday and couldn't wait for a day where he's actually a member. Just as he put his last book away, he heard the sound of heavy footsteps getting louder.

"Hey lady face," an unknown voice sneered.

Kurt thought it'd be better to ignore the guy instead of getting a rise out of him by fighting back. Unfortunately, the guy wouldn't have that and grabbed Kurt by the shoulders before slamming him against his locker. Kurt's back ached.

"You answer me when I talk to you Kurt," the guy spat.

Kurt? Kurt was confused as to how this strange bully knew his name without so much as him saying a word to him. Someone must have told him.

"Anyway, here at McKinley, I run the things around here so when I say that I don't want your frilly, girly self walking around in my hallways I mean it. Now get out of here fag," the man yelled, occasionally pushing Kurt into the lockers for emphasis. By the time the bully had finished talking; Kurt was trying desperately to fight back his tears. He didn't want to cry in front of this guy, he didn't wanna show even an ounce of weakness. So he kept his mouth shut and blinked back the tears. No matter how degrading the words were or how much his back ached from the abuse, he would not show weakness.

"Oh, and one more thing," the bully reached toward one of the jocks behind him. Only now had he taken in his surroundings. Behind his oppressor were two guys in letterman jackets. The bully himself was wearing one too. Newly acquired in his hand though was a large cup labelled "The Big Quench". "Welcome to glee club," was the last thing Kurt heard before the contents of the cup were splashed all over his face and his clothes. He faintly tasted strawberry, probably from the drink poured onto him but that was pushed to the back of his mind when it was brought to my attention that his eyes were starting to sting. Not knowing what else to do, Kurt started to let the tears he had been holding back fall.

He heard footsteps coming towards him again and Kurt froze. It was probably one of the other jocks trying to get some of their own fun. He relaxed though when he recognized the sound of heels in place of the sound of sneakers from before.

"Oh my god! Are you okay?" someone else said before wrapping an arm around him. Kurt opened one eye and found that it was a girl from glee club. He knew he should have recognized her voice. Her oohs and aahs in glee club aren't hard to miss with her powerful voice.

"Just come with me boo. Let's get you cleaned up," the girl took his hand and started leading him to the girls' bathroom. He hesitated. Normally he wouldn't really care if he went in the girl's bathroom or not but with his previous harassment, he did not want those jerks to find him stepping in there. The girl turned around to face him. "Don't worry. You're safe with me," she said with a kind smile. She pulled him into the bathroom.

"Okay now just lean your head back. And you're all clean," the girl stepped back and admired her work. Kurt looked in the mirror. He was only in his Alexander McQueen t-shirt. His blazer was ruined by the strawberry slushie but at least his t-shirt was salvageable. His hair was matted on his head because of the moisture and all Kurt really wanted to do was go home and take care of it before it got frizzy, but he still had glee club.

"Thanks um," Kurt couldn't believe that during the girl washing his hair, he hadn't even though about asking her name, "I'm sorry what's your name?"

"Mercedes Jones. I believe you're Kurt Hummel," Mercedes said.

"Thanks Mercedes. It's so nice of you to help me," Kurt said.

"Hey we're in glee together now! We gleeks gotta stick together! Right white boy?" Mercedes laughed, "Anyways, everyone in glee is used to it. There hasn't been a week where at least one of us has been slushied. But the important thing is that every single one of us support each other, whether we help each other clean off or whoop some guy's ass," she winked. "Speaking of, we're late for glee."

They exited the girls' bathroom and walked down the empty hallways towards the choir room. Kurt was scared that one of the jocks would come back and slushie him again but it never happened. When they arrived to the choir room, almost every head in the room turned, all looking expectantly at Mercedes and Kurt. It seemed like everyone knew of the events that happened fifteen minutes ago even without saying it. Kurt heard the hushed, worried whispers circling the room. Even Blaine seemed worried as he rolled up to the pair.

"Kurt what the hell happened to you?"
