So what they needed was a week. A week to remember each other before college. To reminisce on the 4 years, even if it was only the last year they were all friends. Going to a cabin in Michigan for a week was by far the best plan offered. Spend a week locked up in the wilderness, no technology to hold them back, just love and memories.
With Kurt's navigator packed with a weeks worth of clothes, in Blaine's case, instruments, they were driving towards Brittany’s family cabin for a week of relaxation, friendship, and fun.
Brittany and Santana sat in the back seat singing along with Blaine’s ukulele to The Lazy Song. Kurt continued to drive through the green fenced road, enjoying the music. The closer to the cabin they got, the more the radio stations disappeared, Blaine quickly improvised before the car became a Broadway scene with Kurt's limited CD collection.
“Today I don’t feel like doing ANYTHING” Blaine finished as the girls did back up.
“Your turn to pick a song Santana.” Blaine threw his head back looking at her upside down, she pursed her lips and thought for a moment her brow crinkling the slightest to pick a song she knew the lyrics to. “Stupid Girls, Pink” Santana said with a wide devilish grin. Blaine laughed.
“I love that song, but I need my guitar for that,” Brittany reached behind her to the trunk for Blaine's guitar as he passed back his ukulele griping the neck of his guitar. Kurt made the comment, "You brought more instruments then clothes." Blaine shot him a charming smile and began Santana’s song.
Blaine loves to sing with Santana; moreover he loved the way Santana sang. Her fearless raspy voice echoed in the car flooding it with laughter as each verse switched between Blaine and Santana. Kurt kept his eyes on the road trying not to miss his turn but Blaine was just so adorable. Kurt especially admired the way he bit his lip between guitar rifts. Kurt looked up to the review mirror to get his mind of Blaine's lips and saw the girls singing. He laughed as Brittany acted out the parts flipping her blond hair at Santana getting over theatrical with the lyrics.
“Best song off that album hands down” Blaine said.
“No. No. No." Santana said shaking her head at Blaine, "U + Ur Hand is the best.” Brittany couldn’t help but to agree with her girlfriend. That song was gold.
“Ok, Stupid Girls isn’t the best but it’s up there, only because Who Knew is the best.” Blaine said and the girls simultaneously shook their heads yes, soft smiles appearing on their faces as they reminisced on the time they first heard it.
“I'm confused, what is Who Knew?” Kurt said. Gasps from the back seat made Kurt’s cheeks tint a light shade of pink. Blaine turned in his seat, struggling against his seat belt, he angled his guitar and strummed softly, serenading Kurt to the timeless lyrics of Pink’s Who Knew.
“You took my hand, you showed me how, you promised me you'd be around.” Blaine sung. Brittany and Santana did adlib. “Uh huh, that's right.”
“I took your words, and I believed, in everything you said to me.”
“Yeah huh, that’s right.”
Kurt smiled, drinking in the moment. “If someone said three years from now, you'd be long gone. I'd stand up and punch them out, Cause they're all wrong. I know better. Cause you said forever.”
“And ever. who knew.” Brittany took Santana's hand and looked at her with passion exploding from her eyes.
“Remember when we were such fools, and so convinced and just too cool.”
“Oh no. No, no”
“I wish I could touch you again; I wish I could still call you friend, I'd give anything,” Kurt became more focused on Blaine than the road, giving quick glances for deer and other wild animals. He kept his eyes locked on Blaine's.
“When someone said count your blessings now, ‘fore they're long gone. I guess I just didn't know how, I was all wrong. They knew better, Still you said forever.”
“And ever Who knew. Yeah, yeah”
"I'll keep you locked in my head Until we meet again”
“Until we, Until we meet again”
“And I won't forget you my friend, What happened?”
Santana took over, tears threatening to spill over her eyes as she looked at Brittany seeing as she was the one who was leaving. “If someone said three years from now you'd be long gone, I'd stand up and punch them out, Cause they're all wrong and That last kiss, I'll cherish Until we meet again. And time makes It harder. I wish I could remember, But I keep Your memory. You visit me in my sleep. My darling, Who knew.”
“My darling My darling Who knew,” Blaine's deep tremble blended with Brittany's light alto as they sung together.
“My darling I miss you”
“My darling, Who knew”
“Who knew?” Blaine leaned over and kissed Kurt’s cheek. After that song it wasn’t hard to see that everyone was crying or at least were teary eyed.
“I really like that song,” he said glancing in the rearview to see Brittany and Santana kissing; Santana's hand on Brittany's cheek leading the kiss. Kurt cleared his throat.
Brittany giggled and spoke up after a second, “Kurt see that mail box that’s the cabin,” and went back to her girlfriend’s lips.
“Right then,” Blaine readjusted himself in the proper position and aimlessly began to play his guitar. He was looking at Kurt, his eyes tracing Kurt's jaw line wishing that he could place kisses all over it, but they were almost there. He can have his fun with Kurt tonight, and kiss him where ever he wanted.
“Blaine!” Santana groaned, removing her lips from Brittany's, and nudging a foot in the back of Blaine's seat.
“Mario Brothers, Seriously,” Blaine laughed, “I'm trying to get my mack on,” she whined.
“You can’t wait ten minutes Santana?” Kurt said he turned at the mail box but still only saw green. The foliage was clearly lighter in this area but it was still not a wooden house.
“Sorry, Santana,” Blaine said sarcastically. The car was quiet as he thought of what song to play next, “L, is for the way you look at me." Blaine sung, then strummed his guitar, "O, is for the only one I see. V, is very, very extraordinary. E, is even more than anyone that you adore can,” not getting a complain from Santana he continued now Kurt joined in singing with Blaine. “Love is all that I can give to you. Love is more than just a game for two. Two in love can make it. Take my heart and please don’t break it. Love was made for me and you.” Kurt smiled, as he saw the vast window that was surrounded by wood in the shape of a house. “We're finally here.”
“Oh my god Brittany, is that the river?” Blaine looked out the window and saw about a half mile from the cabin was the river. Kurt pulled in front of the house. The outside was beautiful a porch that wrapped around, what looked like the whole cabin. The upper level had a giant window instead of a wall, three bedroom doors were clearly visible from the drive way.
“Yeah, we can fish in it or swim, we share it with 4 other people,” Brittany exclaimed. Kurt turned the car off and everyone was out of the car taking in the nature. Brittany filled her lungs with the untainted air, she appreciated nature so much. Blaine was right there with her spinning in a slow circle looking at all the wood he could find inspiration in. Kurt wore an appreciative mug but was only thinking about all the bug bites he was going to endure here. Santana's eyes were locked on the house.
“Come on; I’ll show you to your rooms.” Brittany jumped on Santana’s back as they walked up the steps onto the porch. Brittany handed Santana a key and they were in. Kurt and Blaine took each others hands and followed the girls. Looking up they saw all the open space the foyer had to offer. Staircases on either side of the foyer, a bathroom under one staircase, a closet under the other. The balcony showed the three bedrooms scene from outside. Their eyes slowly went down to see the kitchen and the outside.
Brittany jumped off Santana's back and ran down the hall, Santana, Blaine, and Kurt followed her diligently as she explained the layout. "Here is the living room and the kitchen, which has food in it, my mom filled it just for us the other day. Outside which we will look at later cause I'm pretty sure that’s where we will be spending most of the week, other than the bedrooms" Brittany giggled, "So let's go see those."
Brittany was like a puppy in a new home, she ran up the stairs on the left of the entrance it was hard keeping up with her but they managed. “This room is yours," Brittany said to Blaine and Kurt opening the door to see a brown themed room. Chaise lounge in the middle of the floor, an open bathroom and a King size bed. "All the rooms have their own bathrooms, and Santana and I are going to stay all the way on the other side, in the master bedroom. There is a room between us, so screaming is permitted." She giggled as Santana added, “Encouraged even.”
“Let's go back down stairs and look outside.”
Brittany slid down the stair rail, and hit the ground running. She had fond memories of this place since she was 10 when her parents first bought the timeshare. Brittany was already outside when the rest of the group got downstairs. They followed her to the porch which did wrap around the cabin like an antebellum home in the south. Two steps off the porch gave way for the stone patio with a built in stone oven and electric grill. There was a sink outside also but it was still covered from the rainy season.
“There should be propane in here but we can just ask the neighbors.” She informed them. “And the river, Blaine, is right over there,” she pointed off towards her right. “All this land is ours," she spun in a circle with her arms out wide, "But the neighbors own parts of it too, most the time no one cares but every once and a while people come around and get butt hurt if your on their land.”
“This is going to be a great weekend!” Blaine exclaimed.
Within an hour the foursome managed to transfer their bags into house and change out of their clothes into some summer wear. Everyone when outside for lunch, Santana stood at the stone counter cutting lemon to put in the ice tea. Blaine wore only Kurt's Kiss the Cook, apron while he grilled hot dogs. He had red swim trunks on that had white stars. Kurt personally hated them but Blaine would joke around saying, “Then you hate our country, these are 4th of July swim trunks baby.”
Brittany was putting sun block on Kurt’s back while they gossiped about Real Housewives of Orange County. Brittany and Santana’s swimsuits were color opposite Santana red and white, Brittany blue and white, but exact same design. Kurt actually had his shirt off, something not even Blaine could get him to do all summer long. He had dark blue walking shorts on and stole a pair of Blaine sunglasses to complete his outfit.
“Knock, Knock!” A skinny brunette in white short shorts and a yellow racer back emerged from the forest, “Is that the Pierce family?”
“Jessica!” Brittany screamed and met her old best friend head on in a tight hug. Santana and Blaine both watched the scene unfold from the patio.
“Brittany!” she screamed back hugging Britt equally as tight but Brittany had to out do the hug so she lifted Jessica and span her around. They giggled holding hands telling each other how great they looked.
While they made small talk Santana turned to Blaine. “She has two minutes to back up of woman before I go all Lima Heights on her little white ass.” Santana stabbed the knife into the cutting board to the point where it stuck. Blaine got wide eyed for a second then knew she couldn’t be serious.
“Santana, relax. You can’t kill all of Brittany’s friends.” Blaine put his hands on her shoulder incase he had to hold her back.
“You wanna bet hobbit?” And with that she started to walk towards Brittany; Blaine quickly grabbed her and hissed Kurt’s names so he could do something. “Santana, stop, its just a girl she will be her for like 5 minutes then the rest of the vacation is ours.” Blaine said trying to slow the bull who had her eyes locked on something red.
“No Blaine, Brittany picked her up in that hug, that means we're going to have to spend one evening with the snobby little-“
“Would it kills you to be nice for a weekend?” Blaine cut her off she turned and stared dagger into him then shook his hand off her.
Kurt was by Brittany's side, about the same time Blaine and Santana go to the lawn chairs Britt and Kurt had occupied. Santana picked up her pace making Blaine lengthened his stride.
“No, it’s the last week before I go to college, I got accepted to State, on a cheerleading scholarship and cheer practice starts next week.” Kurt looked over his shoulder at Santana and was prepared for a verbal smack down between the girls. He gave a I'm so sorry smile to Jessica who took it as a friendly gesture.
Santana closed in on the trio, she crossed her arms over her chest defensively but Jessica kept her attention on Kurt.
“Is this your boyfriend?” Jessica asked, making Blaine snort,
“You better believe it.” Santana mimicked Jessica's over excited tone.
