Around noon, we migrated to the living room to talk. Everything from the new Marc Jacobs line to what Rachel is going to do in Ohio came up. Blaine lied in my lap listening to Rachel and I debate which Broadway Rent cast was better.
“let’s agree to disagree, we’ve managed to put Blaine to sleep in less than an hour.” Rachel said checking her cell phone.
"Fine.” I shook my head and look over at him. “I think I'm going to move him to the room." I told her.
"You don't want to see what he is dreaming." She asked.
"No, Rachel." I said brushing hair behind his ear, "At least not tonight."
"Alright, well I've got a booty call. Text me if you need me." She stood and gave me a kiss on the cheek before brushing the hair off Blaine’s forehead. "Sweet dreams kiddo." I waited until she was gone before moving Blaine into the bedroom. I sat beside him and just looked at him. His bruise was completely gone now just a scab over his eyebrow. He looks terrified even if he safe with me but I can't protect him in dream land. All I can do is hold on to him and be his anchor when he wakes.
He flinched as his breathing stuttered. I took his hand and began to sing softly.
"You say, 'baby, turn the light out.' But I can see there's something crying in your smile now , Yeah, you used to be the glitter in the dirt. And now you say it's just you feel a little dusty. Why didn't anybody tell you that it ain't easy Life don't imitate reality TV." His face softened as I sung his body relaxing into my hold.
"I can see you tugging on a wishbone. Angling an outcome bones will only break their words, But you don't know that it beats my heart to black and blue all over, When you cry those tears. Like paper cuts and iodine when you were here. I couldn't find the words to say."
"I'll be your lullaby singer. I won't let you down I promise to try and try lullaby, lullaby lullaby, lullaby. Panic is a shotgun I don't know if I can get you out of this one. But you can call me up at twenty after midnight. I'll stay on the line to talk you down and tuck you in. Eyes wide open brighter than the candles on a cake you wasted wishes on when you were okay. When you were here I couldn't find the words to say."
"I'll be your lullaby singer I won't let you down I promise to try and try. Lullaby lullaby."
Blaine was just fine for the first few hours of his slumber. He actually looked happy while he slept. Until he started crying and mumbling, "please don't go."
"Blaine?" I tucked his hair behind his ear.
"I'm sorry please don't leave again. Please don't go." He stirred growing more upset. I pulled him closer to me.
"You can't go. I need you." He began to cry freely into my chest. I gently rubbed his back as he hugged me back. "Don't go."
It broke my heart seeing him like this. I wish there was something I could do to save him from everything in his life. Especially his dreams, his weeping slowed down as I held him.
"Kurt," he croaked as he woke an hour later.
"Hey babe." I smiled at him.
"How long did I sleep?" He began to stretch around me.
"Most the afternoon. Are you hungry?"
"No, I feel ache, I think I'm going to take a shower." He stood up from the bed, "care to join me?"
