Blaine was in the foyer waiting for headmaster smith to call him in. Blaine had perfect grade and his attendance had been a little rocky for a boarding school but it wasn't that bad. He knew he did nothing wrong so it must be the midyear transfer student. Or he got into Columbia but it was too early to tell about the second one. Mrs. Snow the receptionist called Blaine to the room. He stood up and adjusted his tie and made sure his blazer was without flaw as he stepped into the oval office.
"Mr. Anderson thanks for coming out." Headmaster Smith said shaking Blaine’s hand before they both sat.
"It’s always a pleaser to see you." Blaine smiled.
"I was looking in your file and you are a perfect match for the transfer we have coming in tomorrow. Both in drama and glee club, you two also took similar courses and I've matched up as many classes as I could."
"That's great sir, I've always wanted to be a mentor." Blaine said.
"I met him for a moment a week ago he's the new congressman son and has troubles at his last school. I'm sure he will fill you in on the details." Headmaster smith raved. "Now tell me how are those warbler? Are we ready to win sectionals next week?"
"We have an impromptu performance morning tomorrow in the senior common. You can be the judge of our 6 part harmony." Blaine joked.
"As long as you sing lead we are in good hands."
Blaine returned to warbler practice at lunch and Sebastian winked at him from the counsel table before starting the meeting.
"I call this meeting to order," Sebastian said tapping his gavel twice, "we have one opening in the group, auditions will be held after sectionals."
"Experience is necessary." David said.
"Also, soloist for sectional will be Blaine Anderson." Sebastian paused for the applause the continued, "we will perform two songs, one in six part harmony the second in an eight part harmony. Tomorrow we rehearse the six parts while performing Teenage Dream." Sebastian concluded.
"Let’s practice." David said.
After practice Sebastian and Blaine went to the senior commons to start homework and enjoy cups of coffee.
"So why did dean smith want you at lunch?" Sebastian asked as he flipped through his history notes.
"I'm mentoring a midyear transfer student, the new congressmen’s kid. I haven't looked at the file but I guess we have a lot in common." Blaine explained while scribbling math problems.
"Do you want to go out this weekend see a movie maybe? There are tons of great things playing." Sebastian offered.
"Sure, but no scary movies." Blaine laughed looking up at Sebastian.
They returned to their coffee and homework till dinner and eventually bed.
Blaine always had trouble sleeping, but tonight was particularly bad. He couldn't sleep at all. He tossed and turned, listened to the sounds of nature Sebastian got him last year, but nothing seemed to work. So he slipped on his robe and house shoes and snuck down the hall to the stair case that led to the roof. He sat at the edge looking over the three story building at the small cars and white lines. He then looked up at the full moon.
He was so theatrical, he imagined his other half was looking at it the very moment he was. Whether they were across the street or staring at the moon while the sun was out. Blaine saw a shooting star and smiled closing his eyes a making the wish that his senior year would be perfect.
He stayed outside till he saw the dull essence of the sun rising, realizing it was 5 in the morning and he had class in 3 hours he hurried downstairs and tried to sleep until his alarm went off.
He accidently slept through breakfast and woke up with a start. Rushing to get ready he forgot to make room for the transfer student leaving his cloths askew and the second bed still held his book. In his English first block class he drank a cup of coffee and recited Edgar Allen Poe without flaw. But it was already time for the warblers practice. He rushed down the stairs checking his watch to assure he's not late.
There was a soft tap on his shoulder as a delicate voice said, "Excuse me. What's going on?" Blaine looked up and stared at the student in awe. He looked so familiar it was in his eyes the soft shade of green that made the blue tones brightens with the alabaster skin tone and rosy red cheeks.
"The warblers, there's a performance going on right now in the senior commons. Come on, I'll show you a shortcut." Blaine took the students hand and ran down the hallway opening a back door to see students all gathered excited to see the performance.
"Wow, your glee club is actually cool here?"
Blaine nodded, "the warblers are like rock stars, now if you would excuse me." Blaine passed his messenger bag to a student and started singing trying to remember who this boy was.
Maybe they had coffee together, or stood in line waiting for the iphone beside each other. It was haunting to watch his bright eyes and not know who he was.
Blaine couldn't take his eyes off him, even as the performance came to an end and Blaine was high fiving his fellow warblers and other classmates he looked at those blue green orbs of hope and it clicked.
It was Kurt. The first and only boy he ever loved. After 3 years he thought Kurt left for good but there he was grown up and more handsome than ever.
Sebastian said something to Blaine but he was already walking to Kurt the world melted away and all that remained was Kurt.
"Kurt," Blaine said wrapping his hands around Kurt in a tight hug.
"You remember me?" Kurt mumbled in Blaine’s ear. Blaine pulled back but kept his hands on Kurt’s arms.
"How could I forget you?" Blaine smiled, "god you're handsome." He blurted staring at Kurt’s sharp jaw line and soft pink lips, his eyes were as enchanting as the first time Blaine saw them but now his eyelashes were fuller and his eyebrows were shaped.
"Thank you," Kurt blushed and laughed, "I think you're my mentor, unless there is another Blaine Anderson floating around Dalton."
"Really," Blaine asked, "your dad is that new congress man?"
"Oh I’m the congressman’s son now, exciting." Kurt said sarcastically, "yes, but it’s very random and I only moved here because I hated being home alone or with my stepbrother and his girlfriend." Kurt clarified as nick and Sebastian called Blaine.
"Hey lets grab coffee upstairs." Nick suggested.
"Still popular I see," Kurt said. Blaine looked at Kurt and turned around to the boys.
"Its cool, I catch up with you guys at lunch." Blaine said before turning to Kurt, "You still come first. Come on, I'll show you around."
Blaine offered his hand and Kurt hesitantly took it looking around the empty hall expecting someone to come from a corner and slushie him or pushes him into a locker. Instead he felt the gentle pull of Blaine’s hand as he walked out of senior commons room and back down the hall.
"Dalton is very different we are very privet and respectable. There is a zero tolerance bullying policy here that is enforced. I love it here and I think you will too." Blaine said as the ascended the stairs.
"I smell coffee," Kurt commented with a smile.
"The seniors last year gave junior, senior and faculty really nice coffee makers, then the seniors this year pitched in for a latte maker. I also have a coffee brewer in our room, which I didn't clean..."
Blaine paused and dropped his head remembering the mess. Kurt laughed, "Its okay, I don't care. We are rooming together for the next 7 month."
"I didnt room with anyone last year so give me a few days to adjust." Blaine said jokingly as he walking around a corner to the dorms. "Three rooms to a big bathroom with showers and we have powder rooms in all our dorms, it’s one of the many senior privileges." Blaine let go of Kurt’s hand to dig into his pockets for Kurt’s key handing it to him.
"Welcome to your second home." Blaine said as Kurt opened the door to the messy bachelor pad.
"How homey," Kurt commented walking in. Blaine shut the door and stared at Kurt from a distance, Kurt was tall lean and had an ass that made Blaine stutter.
Kurt was looking around the room as Blaine was looking at him. Kurt picked up a singing trophy and was shocked that Blaine was really this amazing singer. He set it down and was quiet for a moment admiring the signed picture of Katy Perry and Blaine at his bedside.
"I'm sorry," Kurt said sitting on Blaine’s bed.
"For what?" Blaine asked confused, he walked to sit beside Kurt.
"Everything, that night not coming to see you. When I moved to McKinley I just pretended none of it happened. Lied to people about my transfer, I wanted so bad to just forget about you but every night I craved your presence and call cooper hoping some changed. But after a month I had to stop it was hurting so bad then some head cheerleader knew that you transferred to boarding school and that was enough for me to move on."
"Kurt, the past is the past. Most of it is all a faint blur anyway. I don't hold anything against you, and you shouldn't have held any against yourself after all this time." Blaine said looking at Kurt’s soft solemn face.
"You haven't changed a bit?" Kurt said a smile tugging at his lips.
"I like to say I'm wiser, not a shy,"
"You lost a lot of weight," Kurt smiled teasing him a bit.
"I started the boxing club here. But I don't talk about it." Blaine added their laughter stop and they just looked at each other.
Blaine needed to saw something but his throat was tight and his mouth grew dryer at each passing second. "We should probably go to class," Kurt said taking a breath and smiling.
"Yeah, I think second block is about to end. We should go downstairs." Blaine stood up and shook his head. "We should have all the same classes, but I have a free period after lunch." Kurt nodded his head and lead out the door, Blaine watched him then hesitantly followed after Kurt with a hopeful heart.
Kurt sat in the senior commons hearing the mere echo of warblers shouting and gavels knocking. Then it stopped and the doors opened warbler by warbler as they left the commons. Kurt perked up, closing his history book and eagerly waited for Blaine to leave the room.
Blaine saw Kurt’s smiling face and sat beside him, "days like this I remember why I didn't run for council." Blaine shook his head and put his hand over Kurt’s.
"It sounded a bit hectic in there." Kurt said looking at their hands, "but I read my chapter of civics." He moved his hand from Blaine’s and placed it on the book.
"I've never read a single chapter page to page in history, or science. The test are easy, you can pick up the patterns in less than a week." Blaine leaned back in his chair deflecting a bit from Kurt’s subtle rejection.
"You are actually really smart Blaine." Kurt said.
Sebastian flopped in the chair beside Blaine slammed his hands to the table causing Kurt to give a noticeable flinch. "I image the continental congress went more smoothly than that." He uttered noticing he interrupted a moment.
"What were you talking about?" Kurt asked looking at Blaine.
"That's exclusive information for members of the Dalton academy Warblers." Sebastian said the same time Blaine said, "What solo I'm singing at sectionals."
"We have to be perfect this year. I don't know how those damn directioners won, their dancing isn't that great." Sebastian said flustered.
Kurt scoffed, "they are the new directions and they got twelve places at nationals last year."
"I'm sorry, we haven't been properly introduced, and I’m Sebastian Smyth, captain of the warblers." Sebastian said thrusting his hand out to Kurt.
"Kurt Hummel." He said curtly. "Former secretary of the new directions."
"Then what are you doing outside my meeting?" Sebastian asked hotly.
"Kurt is my MYTM." Blaine interrupted, "and we know each other from my public school years."
"Some one from your past Blaine I'm intrigued, you should have opened with that statement." Sebastian changed his tone but still was unhappy with Kurt’s presence.
Kurt looked at Blaine and raised an eyebrow before looking at Sebastian, "what do you mean by that?"
"Blaine doesn't talk about his past. I asked about his parents he said they are famous Nazi hunters undercover in Japan. His older brother is a dentist in Denmark." Sebastian said.
Kurt laughed but stopped when he saw Blaine shake his head. "Blaine, I'm pretty sure your brother is a dental assistant."
"You caught me, he never graduated but peace corp. helped him out a lot." Blaine said his smile thanking Kurt.
"Okay fine, lie to me but one day Anderson you will tell me everything." Sebastian said his eyes glowing with hope.
"There's nothing to know about me seb," Blaine said before looking at Kurt, "let’s grab dinner."
Kurt didn't look at Sebastian as he stood and gathered his books, "I'll have an acoustic version of stolen ready for tomorrow." Blaine promised Sebastian and walked away with Kurt.
They stopped by the room to change and loosen up before dinner when Kurt said, "You know he likes you right?"
"What Sebastian, we're just friends." Blaine laughed at the thought as he set his blazer on the hanger.
Kurt just watched Blaine for a moment realize they aren't confused boys anymore. Kurt also realized Blaine has learned to think for himself, he was so easily pushed around to do whatever everyone else wanted. Kurt liked it, deep down those feeling from the past were emerging to the surface.
"You're staring," Blaine intruded Kurt’s thoughts and made him blush.
"What really happened to cooper?" He quickly changed the subject.
"He is in law school still, 1l he graduated early, still goes to NYU." Blaine said taking selective steps to Kurt, "as for my parents, they got divorced, haven't spoken to them since they gave me my trust fund early."
"My dad got remarried, I have a step brother, and a mother now." Kurt said.
"Congrats," Blaine said honestly and walked to the door holding it opened for Kurt.
They sat alone enjoying their dinner in a humble silence before returning to their room to complete homework. Blaine couldn't focus on his homework for very long; it was like a dream to have Kurt right there, five steps away from him. It was surreal and Blaine was afraid that if he closed his eyes Kurt would disappear. Blaine never wanted Kurt to leave him again. All the promises they made freshmen year meant nothing now, Kurt was still so perfect and Blaine just knew he probably had a boyfriend that adored every piece of him the way Blaine does.
Kurt complained about the work load questioning why Blaine finished as fast as they got ready for bed.
Blaine tried to sleep but like the day before he was restless he turned over and laid on his stomach his head facing Kurt.
"Blaine?" Kurt whispered.
"Can't sleep?" Blaine sat up on his elbows watching Kurt sit up as well.
"It’s a new room," Kurt said but something told Blaine Kurt had the same sleeping problems as he does.
"We can watch a movie to help fall asleep." Blaine suggested rolling over and kicking his feet over the edge of the bed.
"How do we do that? Don't tell me there is a secret fold down wall hiding a 60 in." Kurt said sitting up as well.
"I wish," Blaine shook his head and walked to the desk explaining, "Each room has an ipad even though most the students have laptops or their own. But this is loaded with all the teachers’ emails and other school crap kinda like a mobile directory. But I know how to log in and get us Netflix." Blaine said proudly his face now glowing with the LED light.
"Wow, this school is so much more complex than I thought." Kurt said mostly to himself but Blaine smiled.
"Come on, you'll never see the screen from there." Blaine said climbing into his bed and pulling the laptop tray from the wall and angling it to see the 10in screen from his spot on the pillow. Kurt hesitantly joined Blaine in bed their feet touching for a moment before Blaine scooted over more.
"What do you want to watch?" Blaine asked. "It doesn't matter." Kurt said as Blaine scrolled through the drama movies, "I love Sweet November." Kurt commented as Blaine scrolled. He stopped and pressed play on the movie.
"I've never seen it." Blaine said honestly.
"Just like old times, how many movies did I introduce you too?"
"Thousands," Blaine laughed. The movie started to play and they watched silently.
Blaine could barley focus on the movie with Kurt in his bed, his soft cologne engulfing Blaine with a sent he couldn't explain but would never forget. Then there was the body heat shared under the covers, Blaine was always cold at night and Kurt was a better blanket then the electric one he got every year.
Blaine was dosing off and the movie wasn't even half over. Kurt knew as Blaine turn to his side he was done. Kurt pressed pause on the movie and looked at Blaine for a moment; his beard was already growing in. His face also softened fewer lines of anger and stress made him look young again. Kurt eased out of bed as softly and quietly pressing a kiss to Blaine’s temple before crawling into his own bed and drifting to a place somewhere only he knew
