Blaine went with his family to send Cooper to school in New York. He thought that the distance between him and Kurt would help figure out what ever they were doing but instead he just missed Kurt. When he got back they were inseparable. They never talked about that night at the movies or anything remotely close to relationships. One night when Blaine was sleeping over at Kurt’s they lied on the trampoline and stared at the stars.
"Hey Blaine," Kurt said after a while. Blaine actually thought this was the conversation they had been waiting for but instead he asked, "Do you go to Jefferson or McKinley?"
"Jefferson, why do you ask?"
"I have to register next week I just wanted to know what school to go to." Kurt said returning to their pervious star gazing silence.
"Look a shooting star," Blaine said watching the star, "make a wish."
Blaine watched Kurt close his eyes then had this sudden impulse to kiss Kurt. He sat up and pressed a soft kiss to Kurt mouth. The kiss shocked both of their lips making Blaine pull away early and making Kurt open his eyes and sit up.
"Was that your wish?" Kurt replied quickly.
"Yes." Blaine answered in an apologetic tone.
"Okay, don't kiss me again. Not unless I tell you too." Kurt said lying back down. "Thank you though."
Blaine had too many butterflies to respond properly and his lips tingled like they were on fire. It was quiet for a moment before Kurt took Blaine’s hand in his and took a relaxing breath.
Blaine looked down at their fingers interlocked and smiled. Now what? He got his first kiss from the most perfect boy in existence. But Kurt is so different then the girls Blaine’s dated, Blaine hated to compare them but unlike the girls Kurt is pulling the strings.
Blaine looked it up on the internet, the roles gay relationships play, most the post never answered his question but he still learned so much. He wondered what roles he was playing, Kurt acts more feminine then he does but when their alone he call the shots and runs things. Blaine needed to stop trying to label thing and just enjoy the little moments like this he had with Kurt.
Blaine decided to look at Kurt, after all he was a brighter star then anything in the sky.

It was the first day of school and Kurt had 4 of Blaine’s 6 classes which was almost perfect. But with school back in session Blaine’s friends, and students that knew Cooper all had high expectations for him. The fact that he ate lunch outside alone with Kurt set things off right away.
Kurt was already getting picked on because he was smart and new. Blaine didn't hear about it till the day was over. Blaine was at his locker with his friend Fred and Fred’s older brother Nathaniel. Kurt was walking past them in a hurry Fred laughed at his appearance. "Hey Blaine what's with the new kid? He's weird as fuck."
"Nothing. Kurt is really great." Blaine said watching Kurt pause for a second before he kept walking.
"He's a fag I don't like him." Nathaniel said.
Blaine went ice cold and felt the color drain from his face. He watched Kurt run out the door and shook his head."Fuck off Nathaniel." Blaine said hotly. "You don't know him."
"I know a fagot when I see one," Nathaniel said, "and you don't tell me what to do Anderson." He pushed pass Blaine knocking him into the lockers. Fred didn't even look at Blaine as he followed his brother down the hall. Blaine gathered his things and ran to the door looking for Kurt.
His search ended as he opened the door and saw Kurt waiting for him.
"You don't have to defend me." The first words to leave Kurt’s mouth shocked Blaine.
"I defend my friends Kurt." Blaine said softly but made sure it was very clear to Kurt.
"Well you don't have too. Summers over, and your popular. I don't want to drag you away from your life." Kurt said crossing his arms defensively.
"Kurt, you're not getting it. You're the only friend that matters to me. I don't want to hang out with those guys. It’s you, you're the only one that knows the real me." Blaine explained.
"They know. They can just look at me and they know." Kurt’s voice cracked.
"Screw them. We have each other." Blaine put his hand on Kurt shoulder. "Let’s just go home."
"I don't want to cry in front of you." Kurt said in a low voice.
"Then we'll talk about something else. Did I tell you how cute you looked today?" Blaine smile.
Kurt nodded his head, "twice already." He looked at himself and wasn't sure was Blaine was talking about, he wore plaid white and gray shorts and a white button up like usual, but he added blue spenders and a plaid blue bowtie.
"Well it’s true. Will you make me a bowtie? Then teach me how to tie it." Blaine asked.
"Sure." Kurt said smiling softly, he lead the walk home as they talked about classes and teachers.

Blaine proved it day after day that he picked Kurt over popularity soon resulting in him being shoved into lockers as he walked down the hall. Cooper called him after the end of the second week. After the initial hellos and I Miss Yous Cooper started asking questions."So a lot of people have told me my shoes at Jefferson were too big to fill. Everything at school going well?"
"Not really, I hang out with Kurt, and the guys don't like him so they are starting not to like me. It’s not as bad as Kurt but it sucks." Blaine sighed.
"What do you mean?" Cooper asked.
"Well I get shoved and pushed in to lockers here and there. But Kurt... he went to the hospital yesterday after getting shoved into a locker and it cut him somehow, he had to get 3 stitches." He didn't come to school today but his dad did and was really upset that the school couldn't do anything about it." Blaine said.
"Damn, I'll come up and straighten all those little bastards out. I mean it say the word Blaine and I'm on the next flight." Cooper said anger obvious in his voice.
"I'm fine, we're fine, the teachers have to monitor the halls now, and things should lighten up." Blaine said. "Is it true that at McKinley they throw slushies in kid’s faces?" Blaine asked.
"Oh yeah, they have a slushie machine and 7/11 is 2 minutes away. I've never had one but I heard its three stages of hell." Cooper said.
"How’s new York?" Blaine decided to change the subject. He listened to Cooper lush over the girl’s food and art along with his classes for over an hour before it was time for dinner. Blaine’s dad at in his office while he prepared for a case going to court the start of the week. Sarah was on the phone with Judy fabery so after dinner Blaine just played on the computer until bed time.
Blaine was glad it was the weekend, school was annoying him already and he finally could spend the night at Kurt’s. They hung out all day in Kurt’s backyard and went inside for pizza and movies with Kurt’s dad. Blaine envied Kurt for having the world’s best dad, he owned his own tire shop and wasn't even a workaholic. Yet his own father had a partnership with the law firm and was too busy to ever come to Blaine’s events.
After the movie Kurt took Blaine to his room and shut the door. For the first time Blaine didn't see the blow up mattress on the floor. "I think there is a hole in that mattress, you don't mind sharing a bed do you?" Kurt said seeing Blaine’s reaction to the bare floor.
"It’s not a problem." Blaine replied smiling and noticing the guitar in the corner with LPS stamped all over it. "Have you learned anything in guitar yet?"
"No, just cords, I'm not that good but piano class was full." Kurt said picking the guitar up and attempting to play the new sets of cords he learned Thursday.
Blaine laughed and Kurt scorned him, "oh you can do better?" Kurt asked thrusting the guitar to Blaine.
Blaine looked at Kurt, and started playing the Mario brothers tune and Kurt dropped his jaw. "I love playing guitar, if it wouldn't piss my dad off I want to be a composer slash musician."
"That's so cool can you sing too?" Kurt asked.
"Can you?" Blaine asked cursing the butterflies that raised in his stomach with the idea of singing in front of anyone especially Kurt.
"Yes, but I asked you first." Kurt smiled.
Blaine sighed and started strumming the first song that popped into his mind.
"Summer has come and passed the innocent can never last. Wake me up when September ends. Like my father's come to pass seven years has gone so fast; wake me up when September ends. Here comes the rain again falling from the stars. Drenched in my pain again becoming who we are. As my memory rests but never forgets what I lost; wake me up when September ends." Blaine looked at Kurt and shrugged. "I'm not that great of a singer but one day." Blaine set the guitar down and waited for Kurt to say something.
"Blaine you can kiss me now." Kurt said softly. Blaine stared at him for a second waiting for him to change his mind before pressing his lips onto Kurt’s. They were shocked again but this time they ignored it.
Blaine’s lips moved gently against Kurt’s. He felt his stomach flutter as his skin tingled all over. Kurt brought his hand up to Blaine cheek and pulled away taking a jagged breath. Blaine slowly opened his eyes and had a matching expression to Kurt.
"Let’s play that new game I got." Kurt quickly changed the subject but Blaine wouldn't let him.
"Wait Kurt, we just kissed, and we hang out all the time, are we dating. I mean, like, do you want to... be my boyfriend." Blaine was tongue tied and hoped Kurt knew what he was saying.
Kurt stood up and sighed, "I don't know Blaine I've never been someone boyfriend. I'll be bad at it and you'll break up with me and I'll lose my best friend and I don't want that to happen." He ranted with his back to Blaine turning around at the end.
"I promise, I will never break up with you." Blaine swore standing up and taking Kurt’s hand to place it on his heart, "as long as this heart beats, it belongs to you."
"No, you're my best friend, if you were my boyfriend then things would just be weird..." Kurt paused, "you're really hot are you getting sick?"
Blaine let go of Kurt’s hand and shook his head no, "I don't feel like playing, I'll just watch you."
Kurt smiled softly and kissed Blaine quickly "don't be sad okay." Then like it was nothing Kurt walked to his TV and set up a game to play.
When they went to bed Kurt found Blaine’s hand under the covers and held it till the sun rose Sunday morning.
They did their homework side by side and watched a movie before Blaine went home. Kurt kissed him again as he bid him Farwell. Blaine liked being kissed by Kurt he was just confused. He sat on his computer and sent Cooper a message: what is friends with benefits because I think that's what Kurt and I are.
About ten minute’s later Cooper replied: ...well you're way too young for my definition but basically it’s acting like a couple but not being in a relationship. What are you and Kurt doing exactly?
Blaine quickly replied: we kissed one over the summer but that was random and barely counts. But yesterday we kissed a few times and I asked him out but he said no then kissed me today before I left. Oh and he said no because he wanted to stay my friend so I don't break up with him and stop being his friend. I swore to him I wouldn't but he still said no and kissed me right after.
Cooper wrote back: yeah you're in an FWB. I have to give Kurt more credit kids smart. What are you going to do?
Blaine thought but really had no idea and he told Cooper: I don't know, Kurt is different, I'm going to let him call the shots. I think that makes me the girl...
Cooper wrote back quickly: don't worry about dominance roles (I did my research little bro and my girlfriend’s best friend is gay) isn't the Sadie Hawkins dance next month? Ask him to that.
Blaine smiled and replied: you’re the best brother ever. Thanks :D
Blaine got off the computer and got ready for bed worried sick about what was going to happen this week at school.
Things started off well at school, Blaine got tossed in the dumpster and Kurt was left alone. Well, to Blaine it was good, he rather take the punishment then Kurt. The next day they were both left alone excluding the underclassmen getting pushed out of the way. For a while Blaine thought the target was taken off their back but it turned out Cooper did say something.
"Your brother is really awesome for saying something. I don't know how much more I could take." Kurt said to Blaine at lunch.
"Yeah," Blaine agreed, "I know it’s not for another two weeks but do you want to go to the Sadie Hawkins dance with me?"
Kurt stopped eating and thought for a moment, "as friends?" He asked quietly.
"As whatever you want, I just want to go to my first high school dance with someone I can have fun with." Blaine said even though his mind screamed as boyfriends.
"Sure Blaine, I'll be your date to the dance. One condition though, my dad can't know. Well we can go together but no special stuff." Kurt said to Blaine.
"Okay then, nothing special just you and me." Blaine smiled wide and returned to his lunch listening to Kurt debate suit ideas.

End Notes: side note LPS means Lima Public school. im too lazy to look it up and see if its LPS or APS for Allen County Public School....
