Author's Notes: Bum Bum Bummmmm!!!!!!!
A week had past since mine and Rachel's argument. I thought maybe I can talk to her again. But I needed it to be at the right time. Today was Blaine's birthday, she planned something big for him. Midnight Sun was going to be packed tonight. Blaine was shivering in his sleep shaking the slightest bit. I climbed in right beside him, holding him close.
I pushed his over grown curls off his forehead and sighed. What was going on in that head of his. He gasped slamming his eyes open bolting upright.
"Blaine, Blaine, relax, I'm right here." I quickly said sitting up. He saw my face and relaxed. "You okay?"
He shook his head no and tears started to form in his eyes. "I just had a bad dream." He said shaking his head.
"I'm fine."
"Happy birthday."
"Can we say morose birthday instead?" Blaine asked climbing out of bed.
"Blaine?" I said hoping he would explain but instead he left the bed room. I closed my eyes and heard the cheers and happy birthday from Finn and Rachel. I quickly stood up and ran to see if Blaine was okay.
He stood there with a half smile, "thanks but."
"No buts Mister, I've been planing today since last year. get over here and open your gifts." Rachel said. She took his hand and sat him down at the table.
Finn smiled at Blaine, "here, I hope you like it." He handed Blaine a book wrapped in brown paper and watched Blaine.
Rachel looked over her shoulder and waved me over. I took. Few strides into the room and leaned against a wall. Blaine got the book opened and saw it was a collection of Greek philosophers and the pieces that made them who they are. "Rachel said you liked reading, and I thought of you when I saw it for some reason."
"Thanks Finn." Blaine said smiling. He cracked it open for a second but Rachel placed another gift in front of him.
"Okay this one is from the bar, everyone pitched and Jesse got it for you." Rachel said.
Blaine looked mildly upset about the box but opened it anyway inside was a three piece suit. Blaine's jaw dropped, "I can't."
"Yes you can." Rachel encouraged, "they love you Blaine and they thought you would look the cutest in a purple suit. And we all want you to wear it tonight."
"Can I just wear the vest?" Blaine asked. "I will wear it all together next Sunday, but just the vest tonight."
"Yeah, dude. I bet you'd look great." Finn said.
Blaine nodded his head and Rachel passed him her gift. He looked at her for a moment before opening it. He revealed a leather bound sketch book. On the first page Rachel wrote in her beautiful script, I love you Blaine.
He smiled, "thank you. Both of you this is really nice."
"I'm glad you like them." Rachel said. She stood up and cleared all the trash from the table. "Who wants breakfast?"
"Do you have any A+ on stock?" Finn asked.
"I should. I have it all." She smiled and disappeared into the kitchen. I walked back to our bedroom and looked at the picture from last year.
I almost felt bad that I didn't get Blaine anything for his birthday, I guess one could way I forgot it, I knew it was September 14, the day its self just snuck up on me. I suppose I could get him something and give it to him tonight but at the same time I don't think he cares.
I heard Blaine shout and a chair fall over. I rushed back into the kitchen and saw Blaine's lips were red and his eyes were black.
"Why did you give that to me!" He shouted his fangs at full extent.
"Blaine you're never going to get better if you keep avoiding human blood." Rachel said fairly calm from what she just did. "Finish your mug."
Blaine stared at her and sat back down. "Rachel stop." I interjected.
"Kurt, can I talk with you outside." Finn stood up as Blaine started to chug the blood in his mug. I was stunned watching Blaine slurp, blood dripping down the sides of his mouth. Finn was next to me pulling me to the next room.
"She can't do that. She shouldn't do that." I said.
"Rachel is very powerful and people like you try to make her weak, letting her use only bits of her ability. I think she needs to expand and learn more about herself." Finn said. "Plus, as a maker, she and Blaine aren't close enough, so this is good, especially for their bond."
"People like me. I don't give a rats ass about her ability, hell I don't even care if she makes Blaine do things, but he can't have human blood. You don't know what it does to him." I said agitated.
"He needs to understand nothing can happen if his maker can protect him. She has stopped the split persona before, she can do it again." Finn said.
There was a clutter in the kitchen and I ran over to see Blaine on the floor and Rachel with both her hands on either side of his head.
"Blaine listen to me!" She said in a bold grave voice. "This is real. Don't turn, listen to me."
"I'm sorry." He said closing his eyes.
"Kill him." I said, "its the fastest easiest way to stop Michael from appearing.
Rachel looked up at me, "no, that's ridiculous." She gave her full attention back to Blaine. She was speaking fast trying to catch Blaine's attention.
He opened his eyes and said, "please don't make me drink anymore. I can't fight the monster forever."
"That's enough for today. Why don't we go upstate and eat a bear. Just me and you before your party." Rachel said pushing his curls behind his ear.
"I can't. It hurts to much. I just need to to," he stuttered for a moment. She helped stand him up and they walked to the bedroom.
I couldn't believe her. I didn't understand when did this start happening. Finn sighed and cleaned Blaine's mess and I suddenly understood. Finn, he is telling Rachel all of these things. Telling her to use her competition and ability, abuse it until people hate her.
I walked to the bedrooms and caught her in the hallway as she shut Blaine's door. "Are you really doing this again?"
"Outside." She said walking towards the front door. I followed remembering 1943 and how her and I discovered her ability and how we learned to control it. She was scared and powerful then and now she has some vampire who thinks he knows her better then me. It was twilight outside and the sun was tucked behind skyscraper.
"Now is different Kurt." She started.
"Bullshit! 60 years ago you were terrified after Kellie, Mary, Nathan, and everyone else we knew back then left you. I stayed and we learned about this together. Now you're going to let some guy tell you how to live the life you've made pretty well for yourself. What happens when Noah and Jake find out, or you start controlling Sam or Jesse. They will dump you on your ass just like everyone else has and I will be the one to pick up all the broken pieces." I said.
"Shut up!" She said and started crying. "Just shut up Kurt. You don't know, things are different now. I don't need you."
"You don't need me?" I said.
"I didn't mean it like that." She quickly recovered. "I don't need you to tell me who I am anymore."
"Right because you have Finn, and he knows you better then he knows himself. Because you are the only person he talked to for a century, who went to every single one your opening shows no matter what. He is definitely the guy you should listen to." I said.
"Don't bring Finn into this. He is a maker, he knows things that you don't." She said.
"Wow, I've made a vampire Rachel. Sebastian just killed him before I could make it matter. So just stop thinking that I know nothing because I don't act on everything." I turned and walked away from her.
I walked for hours thinking about Jeanne, how I didn't even have her for a year before she went missing. And how weeks later I felt the small connection disappear. I didn't know a thing about making vampires, I was lonely and I was scared so I made her. But I didn't help her, not even a bit. I just let her go.
I made it back to the apartment just as Blaine's birthday party started. There was a poster on the midnight suns door that said private party but inside I didn't recognize a person in there. I knew Blaine wouldn't either and the further back I got I started seeing regulars and in the back booth there were Rachel's friends. I walked to the back and up the stairs. Blaine bumped into me, he looked sick and well at the same time. His skin was bright but his eyes were dead.
"I have to go down stairs." He said and kept walking. I followed behind him and saw Rachel and Finn with a large birthday cake. The whole bar sung but Blaine was distracted.
He had his fist clenched so tight his knuckles were white. He had his jaw set and his eyes looking between the people and the empty place beside him.
I stood next to him and tried to take his hand. As the final words rang Blaine looked at me and whispered, "I can't hold back anymore. He wants out." He blew out the candles and looked to the empty spot.
There was noise but I was so focused on Blaine I didn't hear it. Blaine was told to cut the cake and when he did he jumped and dropped the knife. I quickly caught it and pulled him back.
"Blaine, its not real." I said sitting him in a Booth. He slammed his eyes shut and shook his head vigorously. His breathing was labored and his whole body began to tremble.
Rachel was right beside us in a flash, she took Blaine's hand and gasped. I guess she saw what Blaine did because she quickly let go and with tears in her eyes she hissed, "get him out of here."
I touched Blaine and it triggered him to come to life. He pushed me back and ran for the door. Rachel and I chased after him but it was too late he was gone, his scent washed away with the rain.
