I need a quick lasting excuse. Blaine looked up when I entered the room. “Here you go,” I held out the blanket and pillow. He stood; I didn’t even notice how small he really was. Not only was he short, about 5’5 but he had a small frame too, his waist was so small.
“Thank you,” he yawned smiling warmly at me as he took the items.
“I have work at 6 in the morning,” I told him.
“Okay, where do you work?” He asked with his back to me making his bed.
“Umm… a museum,” I said thinking quickly.
“You work all the way in lima?” He turned to me surprised.
“Yeah, I’m a security guard, I work the cameras not the floor.” I elaborated a bit more. There solid excuse no more questions will be asked.
“What’s your favorite exhibited.” He asked. I shook my head and laughed.
“I started a week ago, I haven’t looked around.” I said.
“Oh, I don’t want to keep you up any longer. Night Kurt, thanks again.”
“Good night Blaine.” I clicked the light off and returned to my bedroom in all its windowless glory. I better get use to these 4 walls, 12 hour shifts at the museum, what was I thinking.
No seriously what am I thinking! I can’t have some human boy staying with me, if Sebastian were to find me he’d think I left him a snack. God I should have just eaten him.
He’ll be hungry when he wakes, I thought suddenly realizing I had no food in the cabinets. I listen out to him and hear him snoring already, lucky kid. Its been ages since I last slept. I snuck out the door quietly not to wake him and ran to the store.
I just stared at all the food in awe, what is half of this crap? I saw a guy about my age walking towards checkout, I quickly scanned his basket making mental notes to grab. I hope he likes top ramen.
I stood at the window watching the sun rise, I could never actually see the sun, but that moment of deep blue fading into light blue purple and orange was just enough.
“Good morning,” I turned to face Blaine to see him stretching and yawning like a kitten he curled back into a ball.
“Morning,” I said closing the blinds.
“Bout to go to work?” He asked sleepily.
“Yeah, there is food in the cabinets, its not much.” I said taking two strides over to him.
“Thank you.” He said with heavy eyelids.
“Go back to sleep, I’ll see you tonight.” I said having this sudden feeling to show affection to him. Instead I just watched sleep wash over him.
I watched him sleep for a moment, his eyes moving rapidly and his breathing stutter. He turned into the couch pillows like he was hiding. Maybe his subconscious new me better then he did.
I locked myself in my room and grabbed my warn copy of Moby dick. It has always been one of my favorite stories.
