Passed put on the couch Blaine actually looked like himself. Soft sweet face, if Kurt could ignore the beard he has been growing the last few months. But the more Kurt stared at his beloved partner he saw everything the music business did to him, all the drugs and alcohol left bags under his eyes, and cuts from bar fights made home to his right cheek and left eyebrow. Kurt took a few steps to Blaine and smelt the alcohol seeping out his pores and gagged at the rigid stench.
He left Blaine there and began picking up the spoiled food and empty bottles around him. Blaine began to stir and grabbed Kurt’s wrist with a firm grasp. "Blaine," Kurt said in a warning voice, "Let me go."
"Where were you?" Blaine barely got out before letting go of Kurt’s wrist.
"I told you, I when to see Mike and Tina." Kurt said but Blaine was already sleeping again. Kurt shook his head and dropped the trash bag glass clinking all around and he marched to his bedroom.
Kurt was done crying over Blaine. He shouldn't feel like shit anytime Blaine is drunk or high, because it wasn't his fault. But he does. Kurt sat at the edge of their bed and hung his head into his hands and just cried. He sucked in a sharp breath and just felt like giving up. On Blaine, on what they use to have, just leaving Ohio for good.
Kurt heard Blaine moving around then the much too familiar sound of vomit. It only made him cry harder, because he forced himself to stay there. 5 years of cleaning him up, Kurt was done.
But the cries for help were overpowering, "Kurt? Darling, where are you?"
Kurt shook his head and cried harder as he remained sitting on the bed. The room was once more filled with the echoes of Blaine throwing up. Kurt couldn’t take it he rose to his feet hesitating at the door. "This IS the last time." He muttered to himself opening the door and following the faint sound of the toilet flushing and the soft glow of the bathroom light.
Kurt walked in and saw the mess of his one true love, his head lying on the toilet, eyes closed but a small layer of sweat dewed across his forehead. Kurt turned the water in the tub on and took a washcloth and wet it with the still warming water. He knelled before Blaine and wiped his forehead. Blaine’s eyes fluttered open and he smile but I quickly faded when he realized Kurt was crying.
"I'm sorry darling," Blaine said bringing tears to his own eyes. "I don’t want to hurt you anymore."
Kurt shook his head stopping Blaine from speaking, "let's just clean you up." Kurt couldn't deal with any type of apology at the moment, it would only keep him with Blaine longer, and after 16 years Kurt couldn't do anymore.
Kurt sat Blaine up and removed his shirt; he noticed the stupid tattoo he got for his 21st birthday. Kurt’s name sat proudly over his heart in a unique script. Though the tattoo was small it was Blaine’s way of telling Kurt he had his heart always. This made leaving him so much Harder. Kurt pulled Blaine to his feet and removed his boxers.
Kurt helped him step into the bath and began to clean him with the soapy rag. "I wrote you a song today," Blaine said to Kurt with his goofy excited grin on his face.
"Thank you," Kurt said refusing to look at Blaine in the eye. He focused cleaning his chest and arms scrubbing the smell of alcohol away.
"Why are you upset?" Blaine asked bringing his hand out of the water and taking Kurt’s.
"I don't want to talk about it Blaine." Kurt removed his hand from Blaine’s tender hold.
"Okay then." Blaine said, he took the rag from Kurt, "you don't have to do this anymore, I hurt you too much."
Kurt sucked back a tear, "I can't." Kurt uttered standing up and rushing out of the bathroom.
Blaine just had this charm that even when Kurt was just completely done with it all he could pull him back. Kurt needed to be busy so he finished cleaning the.mess in the living room. He scrubbed all the dirt away wishing he could do this to his past. He doesn't regret Blaine. Blaine will always be the best thing in his life but he wanted so badly to have more, he never talked about a baby because no one would give one to the washed up singer of the early 30's and his manager boyfriend.
Blaine came into the living room wearing a robe and stood over Kurt. "Come to bed?" He offered Kurt his hand, like thousands of times before that hand was the anchor that pulled Kurt to shore, safe in Blaine’s hands was once his favorite spot to be.
"Yes," Kurt said while his mind yelled at him to leave Blaine. Kurt took his hand and was pulled into a tight embrace and Blaine kissed his cheek before they walked to the bedroom. Kurt knew better than to let Blaine back in to his mind, but being wrapped in his arms was the best feeling in the world. Blaine was lucky enough to fall asleep right away whereas Kurt laid thinking of all the things he wanted when Blaine was signed to Gnecco Record none of which included an alcoholic cokehead version of his partner. Kurt finally fell asleep just as the pink of sunrise coated his windows.
