Looking back, Kurt realized he'd practically wasted his life chasing after impossible dreams. He thought he could rid the world of evil by being evil, and he let himself lose sight of a very important fact: His mother was a superhero(ine), and she was the purest good that had ever existed. So maybe not all do-gooders were secretly waiting to stab everyone in the back. Blaine certainly wasn't.
"Are you ready, love?"
Kurt grinned at his boyfriend (no, his fiance) and took the hand that was offered to him, immediately intertwining their fingers together.
"As ready as I'll ever be. I can't get this tie straight."
"It looks fine, baby." Blaine kissed him sweetly and held the door open with his free hand.
New York City had been too similar to Lima when they'd escaped five years ago, but on a quite street in a smaller town just outside the bustling metropolis (close enough that Blaine could get to his shows and Kurt could get to his design studio) they were perfectly happy with their lives.
Burt Hummel was buried next to his wife, and although Kurt's heart would never be completely full without his father's presence, he didn't dwell on the loss. He and Blaine were going to be married and he knew his Dad was happy for them, wherever he was.
They didn't use their powers much anymore. Sometimes in the early morning hours when no one with any sanity was awake, Blaine would carry him bridal-style and fly them smoothly over the countryside until they got to a hill to watch the sunrise, or over the city just to look down at the lights. Sometimes if Kurt had a deadline for a show he'd telekinetically manipulate his needles and threads and fabrics to do everything at once. But they weren't heroes or villains anymore. They didn't watch the news if the NYC superpowerful were on it, waging war with each other instead of letting the world go on without their interferences. They never went back to Lima City and they never ever looked at each other with even a glimpse of hatred again. It wasn't worth it.
"You're certainly thinking a lot today," the older-but-shorter man teased as they climbed into the car to go to work.
"Just about how much I love you and how perfect we are."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
When Kurt Hummel was eight years old, his mother, Super Nova, was a heroine who used her power to explode things with her mind for good, even if it seemed like an ability more suited for the evil side of the coin.
She was killed by her teammates, who were afraid that she was going to turn against them.
When Kurt Hummel was sixteen years old, he let himself finally become a supervillain in order to prove that the good side was always the one to betray you in the end. He never actually made his point to anyone except himself, and he lost his identity a little bit along the way.
Blaine Anderson was The Warbler, superhero and everything that Porcelain hated in the world, but he was also the only person beyond his father that Kurt Hummel had loved in twelve years. And sometimes that was enough, even in the real world. Sometimes love was better than being right. Sometimes it was even better than saving the world.
